- Chapter 47 - She Fed Yan Run Wontons Herself
Once she saw no one else was around, Yan Run happily slid into the seat beside Yu Wenxi, pouring her a glass of freshly made soy milk.
Yu Wenxi glanced at the spread on the table—pan-fried dumplings, soup dumplings, wontons, century egg and lean pork congee, egg-and-sausage pancakes, scallion flatbread…
It was quite the feast.
She picked up a soup dumpling, took half a bite, then placed the rest onto Yan Run’s plate. As usual, Yan Run hardly moved her chopsticks unless it was to eat something Yu Wenxi had given her.
“The pancakes you bought for me last time were still the best,” Yu Wenxi suddenly said.
Yan Run blinked. “Are you saying mine aren’t good?”
“They’re delicious,” Yu Wenxi replied quickly. “I meant the takeout isn’t as good as the ones you bought before.” Noticing the hint of suspicion in Yan Run’s expression, she hastily added, “Baby’s cooking is the best, of course.”
Only then did Yan Run beam. “Then we should go there together sometime.”
That simple sentence sent a warm, soft ache through Yu Wenxi’s chest.
She took the initiative to feed Yan Run a few spoonful of wontons, and Yan Run ate them with obvious delight. She even wrapped an arm around Yu Wenxi’s waist, not caring in the slightest that they were still on livestream.
The comment section instantly exploded.
【Why is Ergou always so handsy?】
【I can’t stop grinning like an auntie, hahahahaha】
【Too sweet! I hope they’ll always be this happy】
【Ergou’s cooking skills aren’t bad, but isn’t this a bit too much food?】
【I think her appetite’s fine—Xixi takes one bite, she takes ten】
Seeing the two so affectionate through the camera feed, the production staff felt genuinely pleased. Hu Ye, in particular, was so delighted that he relayed the scene to Yan Huainan. Upon hearing it, Yan Huainan’s mood lifted, and he instructed Hu Ye to arrange more couple-interaction segments.
Hu Ye immediately gathered the writers to discuss the next mission.
Yan Run still wanted to keep cuddling Yu Wenxi, but it was getting late. The others began coming downstairs for breakfast, all stopping in surprise when they saw the table laden with food.
Xu Tangran laughed. “Second Miss Yan really got up early today—and prepared such a spread for Miss Yu. Do we get to have some too?”
Yan Run didn’t answer, instead glancing at Yu Wenxi.
Most of what Yan Run had cooked was already half eaten, so Yu Wenxi nodded.
“Of course,” Yan Run said with a smile. “It’s all takeout anyway. Tastes pretty good.”
Wang Yunfan chuckled. “Looks like Second Miss Yan still isn’t ready to let us taste her own cooking.”
Just then came the sound of measured footsteps from upstairs. Wei Qin descended in a pale green gown, radiating the proud, commanding aura of a film queen.
Following behind her was Ji Zhiye, carrying a few outfits in one hand and balancing the breakfast tray she had just brought upstairs in the other.
Xu Zhaozhao’s gaze shifted between the scene of Yan Run tenderly wiping Yu Wenxi’s hands and Ji Zhiye smiling as she trailed after Wei Qin.
They were both from wealthy families—so why did Ji Zhiye seem so uncharacteristically humble?
Many still couldn’t understand: how had she fallen for Wei Qin in the first place?
Wei Qin smiled faintly. She’d barely eaten that morning—maintaining her figure came first, even if she was starving. “Everyone’s here? Looks like today’s going to be interesting.”
Right then, each person’s phone chimed with a message from the director.
It read: Form pairs of two and head to Rainbow Grassland Scenic Area. Teams must travel together, alone.
Two to a team—clearly meant for mixed-gender pairing.
The couples would naturally stay together, but the remaining six had to negotiate their partners. Gao Ge took the chance to quietly approach Wang Yunfan.
“Yunfan, would you… like to go to Rainbow Grassland with me?” Gao Ge’s ears reddened. He’d only been in one relationship before, and his clumsy, blockheaded nature often had netizens calling him a clueless log.
At first, Wang Yunfan had consistently voted for him in the interactive segments, but ever since Xu Tangran arrived, her “heart votes” had been going to him instead.
It had left Gao Ge frustrated for days.
Finally working up the courage to ask her, he was met with a polite refusal. “Sorry, Tangran already invited me.”
Tangran. The way she said it was almost intimate.
Gao Ge’s jaw tightened. “Yunfan, I thought… we’d make it to the end together.”
She had been his first text, his first date, his first heart-fluttering moment. How could she change her mind now, when they were so close to the end?
Wang Yunfan sighed. “Gao Ge, we’re… not a good match. I’m sure there’s a better Omega out there for you.”
Gao Ge’s fists clenched. Being a fire sign, he hated losing the most—and the sting of rejection pushed his tone higher. “But Tangran’s only been here a week! You two getting close this fast—it’s too much!”
【Whoa, are they fighting?】
【Obviously. Gao Ge and Wang Yunfan were so sweet at first, then Xu Tangran showed up and Yunfan switched sides. Who wouldn’t be upset?】
【That’s not fair—they weren’t even officially together. Wang Yunfan can choose whoever she wants.】
【True. Plus, Gao Ge’s too dense. Even I could read between Yunfan’s lines, but he just stood there clueless. Which girl would date that?】
【Tangran’s good-looking, a doctor, comes from money—Yunfan choosing him makes perfect sense.】
【Still, they’ve only known each other a week. That’s just fast food romance. And Yunfan knows Gao Ge likes her—couldn’t she have waited a bit?】
Wang Yunfan froze for a moment at his raised voice, then furrowed her brow. “Sorry, Gao Ge. I’ve already chosen. Please find someone else.”
Watching his Omega walk away left Gao Ge with a bitter, stubborn anger—but the cameras were still rolling, and his earlier tone had already been too sharp. He swallowed it down and went to find Han Shu as a partner instead.
The director then announced that teams would have to find their own way to Rainbow Grassland—without using their own money.
Checking the map, they realized it was more than ten kilometers away—a long trek for anyone without transportation.
The heat outside was already stifling. Yan Run held an umbrella over Yu Wenxi, who had eaten more than usual that morning—full enough that she really didn’t want to walk.
She let out a quiet, resigned sigh.
Yan Run was goofing around nearby, giggling as she spotted a butterfly in the distance and even stopped to snap a photo. Watching the Alpha act like an overgrown child, Yu Wenxi’s earlier irritation melted into a faint warmth.
But…
“Baby, how are we getting to the Rainbow Grassland?” Yu Wenxi tugged the mischievous “little one” back to her side, adjusted the straw hat on her head, and asked softly.
Yan Run froze. She hadn’t quite caught what Hu Ye had said earlier.
Yu Wenxi: “…”
“We can’t spend money to get to the Rainbow Grassland…” Yan Run muttered after a moment’s thought.
Yu Wenxi pressed her lips together. She really couldn’t figure out what was going through Hu Ye’s mind—knowing full well that Yan Run was their Second Young Miss, and still coming up with such a ridiculous, torturous idea.
Soon, Yu Wenxi saw Yan Run wander over to a middle-aged man sitting in a small cargo truck, eating instant noodles.
Thinking she was about to ask the man for a ride, Yu Wenxi reached out to stop her—it felt far too forward to ask a stranger for a lift, and besides, the man might not even be heading toward the Rainbow Grassland.
But her hand slipped, and Yan Run went ahead to ask anyway.
Yan Run wasn’t usually one to strike up conversations with strangers, but she didn’t want her wife to have to stand there and get tired.
And wouldn’t you know it—the man really was making a delivery to the Rainbow Grassland.
Yan Run waved excitedly at her. “Jie, come on!”
Learning that he was willing to take them, Yu Wenxi had no choice but to climb aboard as well.
She still didn’t understand why Yan Run had gone straight for the truck driver when there were other small cars parked nearby.
Yan Run hopped up first, then pulled Yu Wenxi up after her. There were a few small stools in the back, clearly meant for passengers the man often took on his delivery runs.
Yan Run pulled out some wet wipes to clean off a stool before letting Yu Wenxi sit.
The sun was warm, the truck moved at an unhurried pace, and the breeze that flowed past them was unexpectedly refreshing.
As the daylight gradually faded, Yu Wenxi folded up her umbrella, finally taking in the view outside.
The man was taking a shortcut, passing through tiny mountain villages and cherry blossom-covered hills. Farther out stretched lush green tea fields. In the late summer heat, the shade of the trees was a comfort, and from time to time came the pleasant murmur of a brook running beneath them.
It was a small-town countryside journey.
Born into a wealthy family, Yu Wenxi had never seen such rural scenery. The filming locations she’d been to were all deserts and snowy landscapes. This kind of quaint “little bridges and flowing water” view gradually settled her heart.
It wasn’t as grand as a desert or snow country, but it felt undeniably close and familiar.
Yan Run grinned at her side. “Jie, what do you think of the scenery?”
Yu Wenxi nodded mechanically. “It’s beautiful.”
“Different from anything you’ve seen before, right?” Yan Run muttered.
“Yes.”
Though Yu Wenxi’s answers were brief and slow, Yan Run could tell she was taking it all in.
Yu Wenxi also understood that Yan Run had brought her here precisely to show her the countryside roads—something far removed from her usual world.
Yan Run pulled out a camera. “Jie, want a picture?”
Yu Wenxi gave a small “mm” and posed as the truck rolled past green fields, letting Yan Run snap away.
Yan Run, in search of the perfect angle, crouched, lay down, and struck all sorts of ridiculous poses.
The cameraman following them was left utterly dumbfounded.
Once the photos were done, Yan Run showed them to Yu Wenxi, who was thoroughly satisfied—and rewarded the Alpha with a quick kiss.
The poor cameraman didn’t even dare keep filming.
From the beginning, she’d been following these two around. At first, they’d been stiff and formal, and Yan Run had never called Yu Wenxi “Jie.” Yet after just over a month, they were kissing right in front of her. As much as she had to admit it was adorable, she couldn’t help but think—was this what people meant by “marriage first, love later”?
But still… when exactly had Ergou fallen for Yu Wenxi?
That kiss seemed to ignite something in Yan Run. She pulled Yu Wenxi up, the breeze from the moving truck whipping her long hair into the air.
Standing behind her, Yan Run clearly had “Titanic” in mind.
Leaning in close, she whispered in Yu Wenxi’s ear, “Jie, you jump, I jump.”
It was cliché, but Yu Wenxi couldn’t help but laugh and play along.
【Ahem… Ergou’s acting needs work. Look at Xixi—completely speechless.】
【I’m dying, it’s so awkward but so funny.】
【Since when did Ergou get a sense of humor?】
【Is this… deadpan humor? She used to be so serious.】
【Right? She even used to have Xixi peel her grapes. Now she won’t let Xixi lift a finger.】
Overcome with emotion, Yan Run stopped caring whether the cameraman was still there—she leaned in and planted a kiss on Yu Wenxi’s cheek.
Yu Wenxi startled with a soft, involuntary whimper.
The sound was so sweet and delicate it startled the cameraman too—her camera slipped from her hands and clattered onto the truck bed.
The livestream chat erupted.
【How did you cut away right when the good part started?!】
【Cameraman, have you lost your mind?】
【Hurry up! We were finally getting a Xixi kiss scene, I can’t miss this!】
By the time the cameraman retrieved the camera and looked up, Yu Wenxi was glaring at Yan Run, cheeks flushed with shyness, while Yan Run wore an innocent look.
Clearly, in the few seconds the cameraman had been fumbling for her camera, Yan Run had stolen more than a few extra kisses.
