- Chapter 27 - Xixi Is So Romantic
Wei Qin couldn’t hold back her laughter and burst out, and Ji Zhiye followed with a chuckle too. Seeing the two of them wearing teasing expressions, Yan Run knew they were mocking her. But everyone’s afraid of something—she refused to believe these two had no fears of their own.
Before Yan Run could fire back, Yu Wenxi frowned and asked, “What’s so funny?”
Wei Qin stopped laughing, raised an eyebrow at her, and said, “Right, right. Your little AA looks so cute when she cries, just like a porcelain doll.”
Even though Wei Qin was clearly being sarcastic, Ji Zhiye didn’t find it funny. “Really?”
She knew Wei Qin never complimented anyone sincerely, but she still felt uneasy.
Wei Qin shot her a sideways glance and smirked at the Alpha’s gloominess.
Yan Run had no interest in sticking around with them. Tugging on Yu Wenxi’s sleeve, she leaned in and whispered, “Let’s go try something else.”
Her warm breath brushed Yu Wenxi’s ear, making it ticklish. Yu Wenxi looked at her, slightly startled.
Yan Run pursed her lips. They were standing so close she could count Yu Wenxi’s eyelashes—and just now she noticed that Yu Wenxi’s lashes weren’t even as long as hers.
“We’ll leave you two to it,” Yu Wenxi said to the others before walking away. Yan Run eagerly followed, tagging along behind her like a little puppy.
Wei Qin and Ji Zhiye exchanged glances. Wei Qin pressed her lips together. Every time she thought about that recorder, a dull unease rose in her chest. Who exactly is this Yan Run?
It was a hot day, and Yu Wenxi wanted to go on the water coaster.
Riding a dragon-themed coaster over water—it was the perfect blend of thrills and heat relief.
But unexpectedly, they ran into Wei Qin and Ji Zhiye again while waiting in line.
“What a coincidence,” Wei Qin said, waving with a graceful, practiced smile.
Yu Wenxi replied, “Since we’re all here, let’s ride together.”
Then she looked at Ji Zhiye. “You game?”
Before Ji Zhiye could answer, Wei Qin huffed in her defense. “Relax, everyone’s different. Not every Alpha is like your girlfriend—afraid of everything.”
Ji Zhiye frowned but couldn’t help feeling a bit pleased at Wei Qin standing up for her. “Exactly.”
Now it was Yan Run’s turn to frown.
I’m not someone who gets scared that easily, she thought.
Yu Wenxi said nothing, but the corners of her lips lifted ever so slightly.
Wei Qin and Ji Zhiye took the ride first.
The moment the coaster jolted forward, Ji Zhiye’s scream pierced the air.
From a distance, Wei Qin shouted, “What are you screaming for?”
“I just got startled, okay?!” Ji Zhiye replied.
“I can’t believe you’re scared of this, and you call yourself an Alpha? What a disgrace!” Wei Qin said.
Hearing that, Yan Run did feel a twinge of anxiety—not about the ride, but about Wei Qin. That Omega had a real temper. She glanced at Yu Wenxi beside her, who was, by contrast, calm and gentle—even handing her a tissue earlier when she almost cried.
Now this is a proper Omega, Yan Run thought. Far better than Wei Qin.
“You scared?” Yu Wenxi asked.
Yan Run replied, “I’m fine. I can handle it.”
Yu Wenxi laughed, her eyes softening. “Thanks for coming with me.”
Yan Run didn’t quite get what she meant. Why say thank you now? That’s so formal. She was about to change the subject when the next coaster car arrived. With no choice, she got in with Yu Wenxi.
As the safety harness locked in place, Yan Run couldn’t move.
Her heart gave a few strong thumps.
Suddenly, her fingers were gently wrapped—Yu Wenxi was holding her hand.
People always said that when an Omega held an Alpha’s hand first, it meant they were head-over-heels.
Yan Run instinctively turned to look at her. Yu Wenxi met her gaze.
She’s scared too, Yan Run guessed.
The coaster started moving. All that could be heard was the clack of the mechanism and the rushing water beneath, but none of it was as loud as the Omega’s breathing beside her.
It was a sound so familiar—Yan Run felt like she’d heard it years ago. Her head swirled with confusion and pain. As the roar of the waterfall ahead grew louder, her vision blurred.
And then—
Yu Wenxi’s cheek was kissed.
A light kiss, cool and damp, carrying the scent of water.
Just like that kiss under the jasmine tree, steeped in the scent of tea. Pushing her down, again and again, with feverish tenderness.
SPLASH—!
The coaster plunged downward, and a spray of water exploded around them.
It was like that long-ago rain—the jasmine-scented downpour, soaked with the heady aroma of wine.
After the ride, they stepped outside—and rain was falling again. Thankfully, Yan Run had brought an umbrella.
At the entrance, only Ji Zhiye stood waiting. Wei Qin was nowhere to be seen.
“Where’s Wei Qin?” Yu Wenxi asked.
“We had a fight. She stormed off,” Ji Zhiye replied, staring out into the rain, her expression worried.
Yan Run handed her the umbrella. “Go find her.”
But Ji Zhiye shook her head. “No.”
“Why not?” Yan Run frowned.
“She said I wasn’t Alpha enough. I just think… we’re not from the same world.”
Ji Zhiye had a sharp, businesslike mindset—even as a young adult, she wouldn’t give up her pride for love.
“But it’s pouring,” Yan Run said. “Aren’t you worried? What if she’s still outside, soaked to the bone? You like her, don’t you? Can you really bear to leave her like that?”
Ji Zhiye hesitated, clearly still attached. Yan Run’s words finally spurred her to action.
She took the umbrella and thanked her. “Thanks.”
Then she ran out into the rain.
Yu Wenxi crossed her arms, smiling. “You sure like playing the wise counselor.”
Yan Run shrugged. “Isn’t that what Alphas are supposed to do? Even if I don’t like her, I should help for the sake of past ties.”
“Oh? Then would you go soft for your ex too?” Yu Wenxi said.
“Ex?” Yan Run blinked, her cheeks flushing. “I had an ex?”
She had amnesia. If she did have one, she wouldn’t know.
Yu Wenxi smiled wryly. “I wouldn’t know.”
“Then I’ll pretend I never had one. Maybe I’ve never even been in love.”
That made Yu Wenxi’s expression shift slightly. She combed her wet hair with her fingers and muttered, “It’s freezing.”
Yan Run reached to offer her jacket, but it was soaked too.
Thinking quickly, she ran off to find a staff room.
She soon returned holding a blow dryer. “Let’s just dry you off.”
Her smile was dazzling—pure, radiant, filling the small room with light.
Yu Wenxi almost laughed, but held it in.
“I’ve got no energy left.”
“I’ll dry it for you,” Yan Run said, pulling her to a seat and plugging in the dryer.
She started with Yu Wenxi’s hair.
The faint scent of jasmine tea lingered in her strands.
Yan Run was momentarily dazed. She doesn’t use jasmine shampoo… how can it smell just like her pheromones?
She must be used to it—or maybe she was obsessed with the scent. The more she breathed it in, the more distracted she became, and accidentally sucked in a strand of hair.
“Ow,” Yu Wenxi winced.
“Sorry!” Yan Run panicked.
“What are you apologizing for?” Yu Wenxi asked.
“Because I made you lose a hair?”
Yu Wenxi raised an eyebrow. “So what should you do then?”
Yan Run plucked one of her own hairs and held it out. “See? I lost one too. Now we’re even.”
Yu Wenxi: “…”
【HAHAHAHAHA now I get why Ergou is so emotionally stunted—what’s going on in that head of hers?!】
【I’m dying! I swear I’m about to laugh myself out of this room!】
【Say what you will, at least she does things. Even if she’s terrible at it lol】
【Ergou, you never disappoint.】
【I still think this is sweet. This can’t be scripted, right?】
Yu Wenxi went silent, arms crossed and brows furrowed. She didn’t even know how to respond to Yan Run anymore. Should I scold her first, then coax myself back into calm?
Just as she was about to speak, a phone rang.
Yan Run’s phone.
“Hello?” she answered.
A furious voice shouted through: “Ergou, you idiot! You really think you’re good enough to marry my goddess?! You piece of—”
Yan Run immediately hung up.
The person’s voice had been loud enough that Yu Wenxi heard some of it too. She asked, “Why is she yelling at you?”
Yan Run smiled faintly. “It’s nothing.”
She’d secretly checked Weibo. At the time, public opinion of her was awful—everyone saw her as a scummy Alpha, infertile, unworthy of Yu Wenxi. The insults were endless, every word stabbing her like a bullet.
She understood fans could be overly protective, but did they have to use those words?
She told herself to stop looking.
But she couldn’t resist.
And each time she looked again, the words were filthier, sharper, crueler.
Just then, her phone rang again—it was Qin Zishu.
“Hey,” Yan Run answered quickly. “I just got to Lan City. What are you up to?”
“Just finished a meeting. When can we meet? I’ve got something important to tell you.”
Yan Run looked at Yu Wenxi, still standing by the door watching the rain. “How about after dinner?”
The crew brought them umbrellas, and they drove off to the hotpot restaurant Yu Wenxi had mentioned.
When Yan Run saw the restaurant’s name, she froze for a moment.
Run Yu, Silent Rain.
So poetic… and oddly familiar.
【OMG, Run and Xi! It’s literally both their names in the title!】
【Xixi is so romantic—bringing her little wifey here for dinner~】
Yan Run glanced at Yu Wenxi, still clueless about the name’s hidden meaning. “Your friend has such elegant taste.”
Yu Wenxi replied, “That’s just the name of the restaurant.”
The hotpot was decent—nothing particularly special. No reason to come here multiple times.
But maybe it was just her taste.
The waiter brought out tripe, beef slices, duck intestines. Yu Wenxi expertly swished the tripe in the broth, dipped it into her sauce, and began eating.
Though amnesiac, Yan Run hadn’t forgotten basic etiquette. She cooked some duck intestines and, without thinking, placed them into Yu Wenxi’s bowl.
Their eyes met.
The mood turned awkward.
Even though the livestream was still running, Yan Run didn’t care—she was just here for hotpot.
Yu Wenxi quietly moved the duck intestine to her dipping bowl, took a bite, and smiled faintly. “You cooked it well.”
Yan Run swallowed hard.
A little later, the waiter brought over a chilled plum smoothie. “Hi! Today we’re running a couple’s promo. If you’re a couple—”
She paused mid-sentence, stunned as she caught sight of Yu Wenxi’s now-uncovered face. Earlier, she’d worn sunglasses. But now… her beauty made even the boiling hotpot seem dull.
“Are you two…?”
Before she could say more, Yan Run quickly took the smoothie and set it on the table. “Thanks for the gift.”
The well-trained server quickly composed herself and smiled. “Sorry, there’s just one thing—you only get to keep the gift if you kiss… in front of me.”
Yan Run: “Let’s not. That’s way too awkward.”
