Chapter 36: No Boyfriend
“…Second Young Master, your fresh fruits have been delivered.” The person who delivered the fruits was not a bodyguard, but a young man. He looked clumsy and careless, and successfully provoked Song Yuceng’s anger. A cold and violent look swept over him, scaring the young man into putting down the fruits and leaving.
After he left, the office was once again left with only slightly heavy breathing. The next moment, the boy’s somewhat confused voice said bluntly: “Did you just try to kiss me?”
The power of this sentence was clearly immense, like a hot sun suddenly falling into cold water. The hypothermic Song Yuceng immediately pushed him away. His already heavy breathing became even more chaotic: “What are you talking about?! Who wants to kiss you!”
Unfortunately, the boy in front of him seemed to be less and less affected by his awkward behavior. From behind the seemingly dull and honest glasses, those clear and clean eyes showed confusion: “But you just moved closer…”
Tao Ning watched this awkward second young master visibly panic and even dare not make eye contact with him. He said with a grim face: “There was something dirty on your face. It was disgusting to look at.”
“Oh.” The boy didn’t care at all and didn’t touch his cheek.
Seeing that he didn’t believe him, Song Yuceng’s expression became ferocious: “I’m telling you, country bumpkin, you’d better behave yourself, because I will never have any strange thoughts about you, and you can give up on trying to seduce me.”
Besides being disliked for his clothes, this sentence sounded even more familiar.
Tao Ning didn’t say anything. He lowered his eyelashes, his whole body enveloped in a slightly low mood, as if he was hurt by his unpleasant words. Seeing this, an indescribable feeling suddenly arose in Song Yuceng, along with some anger from who knows where. This anger was his deepest defense mechanism at work.
This was a mechanism that he had gradually developed from living in an extremely oppressive family since he was a child. On one hand, he rejected everyone with a wall, and on the other hand, he could extremely sensitively detect other people’s love, hate, disgust, or fondness.
The sudden sadness in the boy’s demeanor didn’t seem to be because of him.
But this thought only flashed by, because the indescribable feeling in his heart took up most of the space. Song Yuceng felt annoyed for the first time for his slip of the tongue.
Perhaps it wasn’t the first time.
Before Song Yuceng could rack his brain to do something to alleviate the anxiety caused by Tao Ning’s low mood, a soft voice said softly: “I know.”
Know what? Know that he wouldn’t ‘seduce’ him? But that’s not what he meant! Song Yuceng opened his mouth, but in the end, he couldn’t say it. For the past nineteen years, he had been used to being the center of attention. Tao Ning was just a country bumpkin and didn’t deserve an explanation from him at all.
But what exactly was there to explain… A hint of confusion flashed in Song Yuceng’s eyes.
“Let’s tutor.” The stiff atmosphere eased a little with this sentence. Tao Ning took out the exercise book and the crumpled test paper on the table and began to explain. He could easily get into the state. Although he spoke slowly, his train of thought was clear, without any logical errors. He could even say the steps to solve a difficult math problem without writing it down.
But while he was able to get into the state, the person being tutored only stared at his curled eyelashes, his fair skin, and those lips that were almost plucked.
So when Tao Ning asked a very simple question, Song Yuceng just stared at him and didn’t say anything.
So stupid.
Tao Ning sighed. His eyes showed a hint of fatigue. He had been busy all day, spinning like a top, and was already very tired. “…Can we rest for a while?”
Song Yuceng grunted in agreement. He stood up and rummaged through a pile of game consoles for a few seconds. He chose two, picked them up, and was about to throw them on the sofa when he found that Tao Ning had already leaned against the soft sofa cushion and was asleep with his eyes closed.
His breathing also slowed down. Song Yuceng stared at Tao Ning’s sleeping face. He clenched his fist, released it, and clenched it again. In the end, he just had a grim face and continued to stare at him.
It wasn’t until a rapid phone ring sounded that Tao Ning groggily opened his eyes. He saw Song Yuceng frowning and said in a low voice: “…Talk to you later.” He then quickly hung up the phone, but the person on the sofa had already been woken up.
“That’s enough for today. You should go back.” Song Yuceng threw the game consoles next to him with a grim face. “These are things I’m tired of playing. Take them. Consider it as extra tutoring fees.”
The plastic wrap on the game consoles had not been removed. They were clearly brand new. Tao Ning originally wanted to refuse, because he already had a game console, but he saw that these two were controller-based, and the game types described in the manual made him a little tempted. He hesitated: “This… I don’t charge tutoring fees.”
He was very grateful for the Song family’s sponsorship, so Tao Ning felt that it was his duty to tutor the young master of the Song family. And if he could successfully get the two million yuan, maybe he could get rid of the targeting mission and cure his illness.
But the sparkling eyes behind the glasses were stuck on the game console. Anyone could see Tao Ning’s fondness for it. The corner of Song Yuceng’s mouth curved up, but he quickly put on a stern face again: “I told you to take them, so take them. Don’t let others laugh at us and think that the Song family owes you salary and can’t even afford to pay tutoring fees.”
“Okay.” Tao Ning nodded heavily. His eyes curved into a smile. “Thank you.”
Song Yuceng grunted and then watched him eat a lot of fruit and snacks, the excuse being, “I’m tired of it, so I’m giving it to you.”
Tao Ning went back contentedly, holding the game consoles. But as soon as he entered the dorm, a cold voice said without any change in tone: “It’s 11:35 PM now. You’re late.”
This sentence made Tao Ning shiver. Oh no! He was so groggy he forgot about the curfew. But the dorms at Oksen College didn’t manage student’s entry and exit, so he was able to get in successfully. How unlucky. If his roommate was just a regular student, he wouldn’t have to be deducted points.
“I… you…”
Unable to find a reason to get out of it, Tao Ning felt depressed. He said with a look of resignation: “You can deduct the points.” In fact, he was heartbroken about his score. He also had subjects he wasn’t good at, such as Chinese, which mostly required understanding the emotions of the article. Besides doing math problems for the Olympics, he actually spent more time on Chinese.
So every point he got was extremely precious.
Under the bright fluorescent light, this hard-to-approach president was sitting at his desk. He had changed out of his school uniform and was wearing a simple shirt and pants. He looked elegant and handsome, but the gaze he gave him was extremely indifferent. His well-defined knuckles tapped on the desk, as if he was thinking. Tao Ning felt that the time for judgment was very hard to bear. Just when he thought he would definitely be deducted points, this president just said a few words blandly:
“Don’t let it happen again.”
The boy’s eyes instantly lit up. He nodded obediently: “Okay! Thank you.”
Xu Jun didn’t react much. After a moment, he suddenly said, “You and I will be living in this dorm for one year. To avoid conflict, I think it’s necessary for us to understand each other’s schedules, habits, and so on.”
Tao Ning felt that this was very reasonable. Although he secretly answered in his heart: But I already know about you, he still nodded seriously on the surface: “Yes!”
“Okay. I have an annual physical exam, and I work out and run on weekends. Besides mild myopia, I’m healthy and have no bad habits. I’m used to reading from 6 PM to 9 PM, cleaning and washing up from 9 PM to 11 PM, going to bed at 11:30 PM, and getting up at 6:30 AM. My schedule is punctual. Also, I don’t bring outside food into the dorm. If you do, I don’t mind, but you need to make sure you don’t leave any trash inside.” Xu Jun paused and continued: “My hygiene habits are also pretty good. I organize the dorm at least twice a day, disinfect once a week, and do a comprehensive cleaning at least five times a month. As for the rest, it’s up to you.”
Tao Ning was stunned. “O-Okay.”
“Your turn.”
“I… I…” Tao Ning lived a normal life every day and never deliberately paid attention to his schedule and habits, so he didn’t know what to say for a while. It wasn’t until the person opposite him asked blandly: “Do you need me to ask and you answer?”
“Yes.” Tao Ning relaxed.
“What time do you usually go to bed? What time do you get up?”
“Hmm…” Tao Ning thought for a moment. He used to go to bed very early at home because he didn’t have any other entertainment habits besides doing problems. Occasionally, he would look at the clock, and it would show around 10 PM. But recently, he had become obsessed with the game console and had started staying up late. He wasn’t used to lying, so he said honestly: “Usually 10 PM, occasionally, occasionally it’s midnight, but don’t worry, I will never disturb you when you sleep… I usually get up at 7 AM.” The first class for the regular class at Oksen College started at 9:30 AM and ended at 5 PM, so getting up at 7 AM wasn’t late.
Xu Jun still didn’t react much. He asked: “Why do you stay up until midnight?”
This was actually a somewhat private question, but Tao Ning didn’t notice. He answered honestly: “Because I’m playing games.” He took out the brand new controller-based game console from his backpack. His eyes lit up: “Look, there are a lot of fun games inside.”
The man opposite him had a bland expression, as if he wasn’t interested. He continued to ask: “Hmm, do you play with your girlfriend?”
Tao Ning was stunned. Why would he think of a girlfriend? His cheeks flushed: “I… I don’t have a girlfriend.”
“What about a boyfriend?”
Tao Ning said blankly: “I don’t… have a boyfriend either.”
