- Chapter 7 - Qiao Jinyan Suspected of Coming Out
Luo Nianshu and Molly arrived at the film set carrying large bags of supplies.
At this time, the set was already cordoned off by police tape. Qiao Jinyan was shooting a scene with the actress playing the female supporting role.
“Has that sick actress recovered?” Luo Nianshu asked Molly from outside the police line.
“Yeah, it wasn’t a serious illness anyway, and it’s been a few days now,” Molly replied.
“Scene 374, action”
With the director’s command, Qiao Jinyan went up and slapped the female supporting actress hard, causing her head to tilt sideways.
“Did she really hit her?” Luo Nianshu opened her mouth in surprise. “And that hard too.”
“What did you expect?” Molly smiled faintly. “When Yanyan first entered the entertainment industry, she wasn’t famous at all and took countless slaps even harsher than this.”
“She also had such miserable times…” Luo Nianshu muttered to herself.
On the set, Qiao Jinyan and the female supporting actress were delivering their lines. Qiao Jinyan, playing a rich heiress, suddenly reached out to stroke the supporting actress’s swollen face, and the two started whispering before embracing and kissing.
Luo Nianshu raised her eyebrows from outside the line: Is this the so-called “a slap followed by a sweet gesture”? This interaction style feels strangely familiar.
“If only the supporting actress had recovered a bit later,” Luo Nianshu sighed.
Molly turned back, puzzled: “Why do you think that?”
“You wouldn’t understand.” Luo Nianshu smiled and licked her dry lips.
Minutes later, the director called “Cut.”
The crew pulled back the police line.
Qiao Jinyan shook her hair and walked out from the crowd.
The supporting actress suddenly called out from behind, blushing as she bowed: “Senior, you’ve worked hard.”
“Not at all, sister, keep it up!” Qiao Jinyan made a cheering gesture.
The supporting actress blushed even more, nodding vigorously as if greatly encouraged: “Yes! I definitely will…”
“Make way, make way!”
Luo Nianshu suddenly rushed through the crowd, grabbed Qiao Jinyan’s arm, and pulled her out of the set without looking back.
Qiao Jinyan was almost dragged out running. She was a little annoyed: “Why are we leaving so fast?”
“Maybe you’re just too happy because you’re wearing new clothes.” Luo Nianshu made up an excuse casually.
Qiao Jinyan paused, and when she realized what new clothes Luo Nianshu meant, she disdainfully said, “Shameless.”
Luo Nianshu let her scold, giggling.
Qiao Jinyan sat on her lounge chair and pointed to her shoulder, signaling Luo Nianshu to massage it.
Luo Nianshu didn’t dare slack off and diligently started rubbing her shoulders: “By the way, goddess, you’re trending again on Weibo.”
Qiao Jinyan raised her chin, unimpressed: “What’s new? I trend every day.”
Though she said that, Qiao Jinyan still opened Weibo.
Today’s headline was “Qiao Jinyan suspected of coming out,” accompanied by her latest film still.
Netizens were buzzing:
Netizen A: So the sister came out together with the female supporting actress?
Netizen B: Wow, I’m imagining all kinds of things! Hope sister soon escapes the shadow of that jerk and finds true love!
Netizen C: I want to be the female supporting actress! Sister, why didn’t you wait for me to grow up! I’m willing to marry you!
Netizen D: I’ve known for a long time that Qiao Jinyan likes women.
Netizen E: Stop fighting! Q-I-A-O, J-I-N, Y-A-N, is mine!
“Probably just a publicity stunt by the production team,” Qiao Jinyan was a bit annoyed and tossed her phone aside.
“So, goddess, do you like women?” Luo Nianshu bent over and looked at her, half-joking, half-serious.
“Like women?” Qiao Jinyan frowned, “Then why did I marry Wang Xu? I should have just married Molly directly.”
Luo Nianshu: “…Well, Molly would have to agree first.”
Qiao Jinyan didn’t catch that: “What?”
“Nothing.” Luo Nianshu pressed harder on her massage.
Looks like the answer is no.
Luo Nianshu pondered.
On the last day of shooting, director Zhang Weiyin generously booked an entire banquet hall, inviting all actors and even the casual crew to celebrate.
Halfway through the meal, Zhang Weiyin suddenly patted Qiao Jinyan’s shoulder, signaling her to come out.
Qiao Jinyan stood, adjusted her skirt, smiled apologetically at everyone, and followed Zhang Weiyin out of the private room.
Zhang Weiyin led Qiao Jinyan to another private room.
Qiao Jinyan glanced around; the room was fully prepared with food, obviously arranged in advance.
“Come, Jinyan. Sit here.” Zhang Weiyin patted the leather sofa beside her. “This shoot went so smoothly, largely thanks to you. I specially prepared a table for just the two of us to celebrate.”
Qiao Jinyan’s eyes flickered, still smiling sweetly but not sitting down.
She stood smiling and teased: “Director Zhang, you flatter me. This success belongs to the whole crew, why invite only me? Let’s go back and celebrate with everyone.”
She turned to leave but was grabbed by Zhang Weiyin, who pinned her shoulder and forced her to sit beside her.
Zhang Weiyin’s hand gripped Qiao Jinyan’s shoulder like a clamp, her tone commanding: “It’s just the two of us celebrating.”
She poured a drink and handed it to Qiao Jinyan: “Let’s have a drink and catch up.”
Who wants to catch up with you?
Qiao Jinyan was furious inside but didn’t dare offend Zhang Weiyin, so she took the glass but hesitated to bring it to her lips.
“Why? Afraid I’ll drug you?” Zhang Weiyin noticed her hesitation, downed her own glass, then flipped it upside down and shook it: “See? I finished it and nothing happened. Now it’s your turn.”
Qiao Jinyan smiled: “What nonsense, how would I suspect you’d drug me?”
She drank the wine.
In public, Zhang Weiyin was a top director, but inside the industry she was notorious. She had been married five times and maintained many lovers. It was said she loved both men and women and often used casting couch tactics to lure young actresses, though her promises were never kept.
Years ago, Zhang Weiyin tried to keep Qiao Jinyan as a mistress, but Qiao’s clever tricks and the strong backing of her entertainment company saved her from Zhang’s trap.
“People say I’m a lecherous playboy, but I’ve always had my true love in my heart.”
Zhang Weiyin’s eyes grew deep and her hand climbed up to stroke Qiao Jinyan’s face carefully.
Qiao Jinyan felt sick inside, her whole body stiffened, wanting to pull back, but Zhang Weiyin’s grip on her shoulder was firm.
Helpless, she turned her head away so Zhang’s hand missed.
Zhang Weiyin didn’t get mad, only chuckled lecherously and slid her hand down Qiao’s neck.
“Director Zhang.” Qiao Jinyan grabbed her hand fiercely, her strength far greater than Zhang expected.
Zhang’s pupils shrank in surprise.
In her impression, Qiao Jinyan was a fragile and naive girl, but now she had astonishing strength.
Qiao Jinyan twisted Zhang’s hand away, making it tremble.
“Let’s stop drinking for today, I’m leaving now, Director Zhang.” Qiao Jinyan’s mask dropped, her expression cold as she stood.
“Qiao Jinyan!” Zhang Weiyin raised her voice: “I have a new script for you.”
She hinted.
Qiao Jinyan looked into Zhang’s eyes.
Those eyes were murky with age, slightly reddened from drinking.
Suddenly, Qiao Jinyan felt pity for Zhang.
She shook her head: “I’m no longer the naive Qiao Jinyan who just entered the industry. I don’t lack scripts.”
“Don’t refuse a toast only to drink a penalty drink.” Zhang Weiyin snarled as a last attempt.
Qiao Jinyan scoffed and turned toward the door.
Though afraid, she wasn’t naive enough to be blackmailed into the casting couch by Zhang.
“Luo Nianshu.” Zhang Weiyin suddenly called out a name.
Qiao Jinyan’s hand on the doorknob froze.
Seeing this, Zhang smiled triumphantly.
Qiao Jinyan still lacked the cunning to fight back.
“That assistant of yours who costs 30 million she’s the same person who tried to steal your husband, right?”
Qiao Jinyan’s tone turned cold: “What do you want to say?”
“You care about her, huh.” Zhang Weiyin nodded knowingly.
After Luo Nianshu joined the crew, Zhang had suspected her to be the blurry figure in the video stealing a husband, so she secretly investigated Luo’s background.
Qiao Jinyan always kept the woman who tried to steal her man around her, so she must have an important meaning.
“Care about her?” Qiao Jinyan laughed. “Why would I care about an assistant?”
“Fine, since you don’t care, I’ll expose all her identity info online. You have so many fans, they’ll tear her apart.”
Zhang Weiyin took out her phone and started composing a Weibo post.
“Go ahead and post it. I have a grudge with her. I’ll be happier to see netizens tear her apart.”
Qiao Jinyan crossed her arms and stood by the door, a disdainful smile on her lips.
“Good, now leave this room and I’ll post it.”
Zhang Weiyin decided to gamble.
Qiao Jinyan turned and walked away without hesitation, slamming the door shut.
Three seconds later, the door was pushed open violently.
Qiao Jinyan stood at the doorway, her body trembling.
She realized she couldn’t leave.
If Zhang really exposed Luo Nianshu’s information, Luo would suffer terribly.
She knew how terrifying online violence could be.
She hated Luo, but she couldn’t just let someone suffer online abuse.
“Back already?” Zhang’s smile deepened; she had won.
Qiao Jinyan was too soft-hearted to make it big.
“Come, sit.” Zhang Weiyin shifted her hips to make room.
“What do you really want?” Qiao Jinyan grit her teeth.
Zhang Weiyin pulled out a small transparent bottle, squeezed some liquid into a glass, added wine, and shook it.
“Drink this.”
She pointed at the glass.
Qiao Jinyan’s face paled. She knew Zhang’s tricks and probably what the liquid was.
“Drink this, and your ‘30 million’ assistant will be safe.”
Qiao Jinyan stared at the glass, only hearing the words “safe” in her ears.
She looked into Zhang’s eyes: “You guarantee it?”
Zhang smiled: “I guarantee.”
“Words are cheap.”
Zhang scoffed: “As expected of Qiao Jinyan, cautious and careful.”
She pulled out a piece of paper, made a contract, and stamped it.
“Now do you believe me?”
Qiao Jinyan read it back and forth a few times, thought carefully, then carefully folded the contract and hid it in her black bag’s compartment.
She looked at the glass and understood her life’s first stain was about to begin.
For whom?
Qiao Jinyan smiled bitterly.
It wasn’t even for herself.
She steeled herself, lifted the glass, and downed it.
The liquid burned as it slid down her throat.
Indeed, after a few seconds, a burning sensation rose from her abdomen.
Zhang Weiyin was such a despicable person, only capable of these shameless tricks.
Qiao Jinyan wanted to curse her, but didn’t even have the strength to speak.
Her body slumped against the chair, soft and sinking.
Zhang Weiyin helped her up, stroked her long hair, and praised her beauty.
Yes, with such youthful looks, who wouldn’t desire her?
