- Chapter 11 - The Lawful Wife and the Mistress Mess Up the Wedding
Near the Church.
Luo Nianshu wrung the rainwater from her hair and then rubbed it, which would make her look more hurried and disheveled.
She looked at the pristine, pointed spire of the church and only felt that Wang Xu was truly boring. He held both of his weddings in the same church; he didn’t even bother to change the location.
Luo Nianshu straightened her collar, cleared her throat, and then walked with light steps toward the entrance.
“Miss, your invitation, please.” A waiter in white gloves stopped her. He looked at her suspiciously a few times, clearly having doubts about the dishevelled Luo Nianshu.
“Oh, here it is.” Luo Nianshu flashed an apologetic smile and took out an invitation from her bag.
She and her partner had been in this line of work for many years and could forge all kinds of invitations. She had just made a call to her partner, and her partner had immediately sent an identical fake invitation over.
The waiter opened her invitation and checked it, confirming its authenticity, but still looked at her with suspicion.
Luo Nianshu quickly explained, “I’m the bride’s close friend. The road was jammed today, and I was afraid of being late, so I ran here through the rain, and I accidentally fell. If you don’t believe me, look”
She lifted her skirt, revealing a bruise on her leg.
The waiter finally understood and nodded, inviting her to pass.
Luo Nianshu gave the waiter a brilliant smile and waved her hand gratefully, before slowly walking into the guest area.
After successfully infiltrating the crowd, she first walked around the church, observing the most suitable escape route, and then headed toward the church door.
“My Goddess,” she muttered to herself as she walked, “This time is for you.”
The groom Wang Xu and the rented bride were in the dressing room whispering.
“It’s settled: fake marriage, real show. The moment I release my next album is when we divorce.” Wang Xu swirled the wine glass in his hand.
He had already calculated that the heroine of his new marriage this time was neither Qiao Jinyan nor Luo Nianshu, but an unknown woman outside the industry. Such news was bound to blow up the internet and bring him a lot of traffic. And judging from the reactions of netizens these past few days, things were indeed unfolding exactly as he had planned.
Before his next album release, he could stir up another divorce drama with the rented bride, unlocking the “flash marriage, flash divorce” subplot. At that time, it would likely ignite the entire Weibo again, bringing a new wave of traffic his way.
He didn’t care about being scorned or criticized; after all, “infamous” was still a form of fame.
“Sure, but you have to give me the promised money first.” The bride was also straightforward. She made a living from this, and there was nothing to be ashamed of.
Wang Xu took a bank card from his pocket: “Three million yuan, the password is your birthday. Keep it safe.”
The bride smiled, examined the bank card carefully under the light, and then tucked it into the pocket of the long pants she wore under her wedding dress. She then intimately looped her arm through Wang Xu’s and gave him a flirtatious smile, “Let’s go, hubby, it’s time for our entrance.”
That “hubby” of hers was said with profound meaning.
“Yes, it’s time for our entrance.” Wang Xu also smiled meaningfully.
Life is like a play, and a play is like life. Who says only actors can act? As a singer, he felt he performed no worse than the popular actress Qiao Jinyan.
Wang Xu, along with his “bride,” pushed open the door and walked down the red carpet amidst everyone’s blessings.
Flowers and ribbons fluttered above their heads. Everything was joyous and festive again, the scene as dazzling as the wedding a few months ago.
The priest came before the two newcomers, secretly praying that this wedding would proceed smoothly.
The sight of Wang Xu made his head ache: How is it this man again?
Worried about a repeat of the previous incident, the priest quickly finished the blessing and, without daring to stop for a moment, asked, “Do either of you object to this marriage?”
Wang Xu and the bride both smiled and shook their heads.
The priest then looked to the crowd: “Does anyone present object to this marriage? If so, please speak now.”
The crowd was silent.
Everyone’s faces were serene and lovely, their smiles full of blessings for the bride and groom.
Good, everything was going smoothly. This time, at least, there were no mishaps.
The priest breathed a sigh of relief and looked at the groom: “Mr. Wang Xu, do you take…”
“I object!”
The church doors were burst open, and a drenched Luo Nianshu stumbled into the church with a gust of wind. She carried the coolness and scent unique to a rainy day, as if she had brought the entire downpour into the church.
The priest: “…?”
Again?
People with good memories in the crowd immediately recognized Luo Nianshu: “Isn’t that the third party who crashed Qiao Jinyan’s wedding to steal the groom?”
The corners of Wang Xu’s mouth started to twitch, and the bride was also shocked: “Wang Xu, you didn’t tell me about this part!”
“Luo Nianshu, what trick are you trying to pull?” Wang Xu’s expression was rapidly losing control.
Luo Nianshu ignored him and dashed to the front with lightning speed. Wang Xu thought she was going to grab him and quickly dodged backward, but just as Luo Nianshu neared, she suddenly changed direction, hoisted the stunned bride onto her back, and bolted.
Wang Xu: “???”
The whole process happened so fast that by the time people reacted, Luo Nianshu was already close to escaping the church.
The reporters finally understood what was happening, quickly grabbed their cameras, and started snapping photos wildly.
“Luo! Nian! Shu!” Wang Xu’s face was almost twisted. He shouted at the waiters, “Stop her!”
Luo Nianshu paid no mind to how many security guards were surrounding her, only rushing toward the door. She was used to situations like this and wasn’t afraid of being unable to handle it.
The bride, carried on Luo Nianshu’s back, finally regained her senses and started hitting Luo Nianshu fiercely with her fists: “Put me down! You home-wrecker!”
“Okay.” Luo Nianshu readily agreed.
The answer stunned the bride. Before she could react, Luo Nianshu thrust her abdomen forward and leaned her upper body backward, as if she was about to perform a backbend in front of everyone
“Ah” the bride screamed, quickly closing her eyes and hugging Luo Nianshu’s neck tightly to prevent herself from being thrown to the ground.
Luo Nianshu’s waist and abdomen instantly tightened. With a dip into a half-backbend, she flipped the bride back onto her back, tilted her head, and blinked: “Remember clearly now, you’re the one holding onto me and refusing to let go, so naturally, I won’t let go either.”
The bride: “…What the f***?”
“Catch her, catch her, don’t let her run!” The sound of security guards came closer and closer. Dozens of burly young men rushed to block the main entrance.
“Oh dear, this is troublesome. Looks like the two of us can’t escape.” Luo Nianshu made a regrettable expression.
“You… you…” The bride was too furious to speak a complete sentence. She wanted to escape, but the hands locked around Luo Nianshu’s neck dared not let go, afraid that Luo Nianshu would suddenly toss her off to hit a nearby table or chair. She could only let Luo Nianshu carry her running wildly all over the room.
“Over here, here, here.”
“Over there, there, there.”
The security guards’ voices echoed throughout the church, and the sound of thudding footsteps rushed from the east side of the church to the west side, and then from the west side back to the east side. Everyone was exhausted and panting, but they just couldn’t catch Luo Nianshu, who was running haphazardly with the bride on her back.
The priest stood at the altar watching the farce, wiping the sweat from his forehead with his wide sleeve. He couldn’t believe that in the three months since he had taken office, he had only presided over two weddings, yet both of them had been disrupted by a “stolen groom” incident. Even more bizarrely, not only was the groom the same man in both weddings, but the person disrupting the wedding was also the same.
Luo Nianshu was like an agile cat, leaping and darting, impossible for anyone to catch. In contrast, the security guards were like mice being played with by a cat. She seemed to know exactly where they were going to pounce next, and with a few feints, she easily tricked the guards into utter confusion.
“This woman…” Wang Xu’s teeth were almost ground to dust. He tugged at his necktie and also joined the chase.
“Luo Nianshu.” Wang Xu appeared in front of her, speaking in an angry but low voice, “What did I ever do to you that you would mess with me like this? I didn’t hold back a single cent of the three million I owed you.”
“That’s right,” Luo Nianshu smiled sweetly, “Thanks to you, I’ve newly accumulated a debt of twenty-seven million.”
Wang Xu lunged at her. Luo Nianshu cleverly dodged and jumped behind him, speaking in a whisper only he could hear, “More importantly, you made her sad.”
Wang Xu paused, not having time to react to who “her” was before his momentum became unstoppable, and he crashed straight onto the table set up for the wedding cake behind him.
The four legs of the long table lifted off the floor, wobbled a few times, and then tipped backward. Wang Xu grabbed the tablecloth like a drowning man grasping a lifeline, causing the desserts and cutlery on the table to slide down one after another along the cloth, clattering around him. The ten-tier cake descended head-on, and Wang Xu caught it in a full embrace with his hands.
Reporters quickly rushed to Wang Xu’s side, kicked away the obstructing tables and chairs, and crouched down, raising their cameras to snap continuous photos of him.
“Oh dear, looks like I’ve caused some trouble.” Luo Nianshu stood in the distance, staring at Wang Xu, who was plastered with cake, and her eyes sparkled with excitement.
The bride: “…” What a terrifying woman…
“Got you!” A strong hand suddenly clamped down on Luo Nianshu’s shoulder, and several security guards quickly swarmed forward, pinning her to the ground.
Luo Nianshu didn’t struggle at all.
She knew that given the situation today, her capture was inevitable, and struggling now would only make it easier to injure herself.
She released her hands and let go of the bride’s legs. The bride, relieved, stumbled and crawled off her back, then immediately began to sob.
Wang Xu wiped the cream from his face and flung his hand violently, sending cream droplets splattering onto the red carpet, leaving several white stains.
He swayed as he came to Luo Nianshu, squatting down in front of her: “Not running anymore?”
“You heartless man, you abandoned me only to marry someone else.” Luo Nianshu recited the lines she had planned, her eyes watery with fake tears.
Wang Xu was so angry he couldn’t catch his breath. Wasn’t this how they had acted last time? Now he couldn’t clear his name, as everyone believed Luo Nianshu was his life-long love and that he had betrayed her with today’s wedding.
Wang Xu shot a dark glance at the surrounding reporters, waved his hand, and signaled for his manager to force all the media to shut off their cameras.
He shook the cream off his shiny leather shoes, walked to Luo Nianshu, squatted down, and looked her directly in the eyes: “Having fun, Miss Luo?”
Luo Nianshu smiled at him: “It’s wrong to deceive others for fame and profit.”
“What does that have to do with you?” Wang Xu raised his hand, ready to deliver a slap.
Luo Nianshu felt the wind whistle past her ear, and instinct made her close her eyes and turn her face away.
“I’d like to see who dares to lay a hand on her.”
A cold, icy female voice drifted in from outside the church door, halting Wang Xu’s descending hand mid-air.
Qiao Jinyan walked in, dragging her wide skirt. Her slender figure split the light behind her in two.
A woman was walking, but she walked with the imposing air of leading a thousand troops.
She held her head high, proud and aloof.
Rainwater dripped from the grey blue feathers on her dress onto the red carpet, forming streaks of water.
The pointed high-heels inlaid with rhinestones stopped in front of Luo Nianshu. Qiao Jinyan hooked Luo Nianshu’s chin with a long, slender finger, forcing her to look up at her.
Luo Nianshu’s heart pounded rapidly, anxious and overjoyed, as if she had seen a deity.
Qiao Jinyan’s eyes were enchanting and captivating, like fire yet like ice. In the very instant she looked at her, all the light poured into Luo Nianshu’s world.
“Someone actually intended to hit you in front of me,” Qiao Jinyan whispered.
She gently stroked Luo Nianshu’s chin with her thumb.
“Tell me, how should I punish him?”
