- Chapter 12 - A Strawberry Flavored Kiss
Qiao Jinyan straightened up, her gaze dark and cold as she walked toward Wang Xu.
“Which side of her face do you want to hit? The left?”
Before Wang Xu could register what she meant, a resounding smack rang out beside his ear Qiao Jinyan had already stepped forward and slapped him across the face.
She shook her slightly numb hand, and feigned a delicate sigh:
“Ugh, my hand hurts a little from slapping your face.”
Wang Xu stared at Qiao Jinyan in shock, instinctively taking a few steps back.
His hand flew to the left side of his face he could clearly feel the swelling beneath his palm. His whole cheek was burning.
Was this really the same sweet and gentle Qiao Jinyan?
Even when they were dating, she had always played the obedient, soft spoken girl. But today she seemed like a completely different person cold, ruthless, dangerous.
Had it all been an act?
“Qiao Jinyan, if you still have any sentiment for our past, leave now, and I’ll let you off,” Wang Xu said between gritted teeth, ignoring the pain as he glared at her.
He deliberately raised his voice to build pressure.
He didn’t believe Qiao Jinyan would truly defy him. That slap just now it had to be a momentary impulse. She was still that fragile, easily manipulated woman. She had to be.
Whoosh a steak knife flew past Wang Xu’s temple, embedding itself deep into the wall behind him.
Qiao Jinyan had hurled the table knife as her response.
Everyone in the church paled.
The priest silently drew a cross over his chest.
Qiao Jinyan leaned casually against the pristine white table, elegantly picking up a second knife and twirling it between her long fingers.
“Past feelings? You and I only have past grudges.”
She lowered her eyes to glance at Luo Nianshu, who was still pinned to the ground. Her eyes darkened further, like an abyss.
“And today, we’ve added some fresh hatred.”
Luo Nianshu looked up at her like she was a divine figure. Seeing the admiration in her eyes, Qiao Jinyan couldn’t help but curve her lips into a slight smile.
Wang Xu turned to look at the knife embedded in the wall. His face turned pale.
Half the blade had pierced the wall that must have taken serious force. If that knife had been aimed at him…
Wang Xu didn’t dare imagine it.
“I quit,” the “bride” suddenly said, her voice trembling, shattering the silence. She lifted the hem of her oversized wedding dress and pulled a bank card out of the trousers underneath.
“Find someone else for this job. I’m not doing it.” Survival came first.
Pale-faced, the fake bride bolted from the church under a wave of gasps and whispers.
“What? The bride was fake?”
“She ran away…”
“What’s going on?”
…
The guests murmured in confusion, the quiet hum growing louder and louder until it erupted into chaos, like a pot of boiling water spilling over.
The scandal was exposed in the full light of day.
Wang Xu’s expression had become utterly ugly, especially seeing Luo Nianshu and Qiao Jinyan with that amused “watching a show” look on their faces it made his blood boil.
He turned to his manager, his voice strained.
“All media equipment has been turned off, right?”
The manager hesitated, then replied, “Yes, all off.”
“Good.” Wang Xu nodded darkly, signaling the security guards to gather around him.
The next second, he lunged toward Qiao Jinyan, fist raised.
“Beat them up!”
“Watch out!” Luo Nianshu, summoning strength from who knows where, broke free from the men holding her down and pulled Qiao Jinyan back just in time.
Wang Xu’s punch hit empty air, crashing into a wooden table instead. With a loud crack, the table split.
Blood trickled down from his hand, but he didn’t care. He was mad furious and he only wanted to punish the two women who ruined his plan.
“Seriously? Hitting women? You’re not even a man!” Luo Nianshu snapped.
As she shouted, her hands didn’t stop she grabbed every pot, pan, and dish she could find and began hurling them at the security guards.
Chaos broke loose in the church screams, shouts, sobs it all became one chaotic mess. Guests fled in all directions to avoid the flying tableware and cutlery.
“Don’t let them get away!”
Wang Xu shouted furiously, pushing through the crowd with his guards.
“Run, Luo Nianshu! We can’t take them all!” Qiao Jinyan shouted while flinging a soup dumpling and tugging Luo Nianshu’s arm.
Luo Nianshu understood immediately, quickly rearranging tables and chairs into obstacles as they both retreated toward the exit.
The scene had descended into complete disorder.
Just then, a new group barged into the church.
Molly charged in with a large group of people.
“Wang Xu, you’re really gutsy! Do you even know which talent agency you’ve messed with? Everyone, beat him down!”
Her sharp gaze fell on the retreating Qiao Jinyan and sharpened even further.
“You think I’m afraid of you?” Wang Xu shouted back, leading his men into battle.
Another wave of conflict began.
Molly’s team met them head-on. Fists flew, chairs broke, screams of pain rose as the scuffle intensified into a full-blown brawl.
During the chaos, Luo Nianshu and Qiao Jinyan crawled out from under a table and slipped out of the church.
In the pouring rain, Luo Nianshu pulled Qiao Jinyan as they sprinted toward a small grove.
She had already scouted the escape route there was a shortcut through this grove, and no one would think to look there immediately.
“Slower… I can’t…” Qiao Jinyan gasped, clearly less fit than Luo Nianshu.
Luo Nianshu stopped, turned back to wait, but refused to let go of her hand.
Qiao Jinyan bent over, panting. She looked down at the mud splatters on her shoes and dress and suddenly laughed.
A few seconds later, her laughter grew louder, until it became wild and unrestrained like the rain pouring from the sky.
Seeing her laugh, Luo Nianshu also broke into laughter.
The rain seemed to respond to their release of emotions, falling even harder.
Qiao Jinyan wiped tears from the corners of her eyes as she laughed. She had finally done what she’d always wanted to do. She finally had closure for all those silent nights of pain.
“Oh, right.” Luo Nianshu suddenly grinned and pulled out a strawberry cream candy from her pocket. “Got this from the wedding. Here, for you.”
Qiao Jinyan stared at the childish gesture of presenting a stolen wedding candy, and she nearly burst out laughing again.
“Idiot,” she said as she reached for the candy.
But Luo Nianshu swiftly pulled her hand away, unwrapped the candy, and popped it into her own mouth.
Qiao Jinyan blinked, stunned.
“You” she started to say, but before she could finish, Luo Nianshu’s lips pressed against hers.
Qiao Jinyan’s eyes widened she actually kissed her!
The next second, a sweet strawberry flavored sphere rolled into Qiao Jinyan’s mouth.
Luo Nianshu gently pushed the candy into her mouth with her tongue.
It was sweet.
Qiao Jinyan couldn’t help but run her tongue over it.
She instinctively tried to kiss back, but Luo Nianshu pulled away first, smirking playfully as if teasing her for being too eager.
Flustered and annoyed, Qiao Jinyan raised her fist to punch her, but Luo Nianshu gently caught her hand.
“Goddess,” Luo Nianshu smiled slyly, “you promised this was my reward.”
Qiao Jinyan’s face flushed red.
Right. She had promised if Luo Nianshu managed to ruin Wang Xu’s wedding, she’d reward her with a kiss.
“Was the candy good?” Luo Nianshu teased again.
Embarrassed beyond belief, Qiao Jinyan punched her chest softly this time. No more flying knives, just a gentle tap.
Luo Nianshu laughed out loud.
“Come on, we’ve got a flight to catch,” she said with a wink. “This grove has too many branches. Easy to trip. I’ll lead you.”
Maybe Qiao Jinyan had gone crazy, because she actually nodded and handed her hand over willingly.
The two walked slowly across the grassy field. Though they were rushing to the airport, they moved unhurriedly as if they wanted to make this walk last longer.
“How on earth did you piss Wang Xu off that bad?” Qiao Jinyan asked curiously.
Luo Nianshu raised her eyebrows, looking smug. Then she launched into an animated retelling of how she stormed the church, interrupted the priest, and carried the bride away…
Carried?
Qiao Jinyan’s steps faltered.
Luo Nianshu noticed and turned back. “What’s wrong?”
“My foot hurts,” Qiao Jinyan said flatly.
Luo Nianshu blinked. “Want to sit and rest?”
“I want to be carried.”
Luo Nianshu blinked again, then let out an “ohhh” of realization and squatted down.
Qiao Jinyan didn’t hesitate, climbing onto her back and wrapping her arms around her neck.
How had Luo Nianshu described it earlier? The bride clung tightly to her neck?
Qiao Jinyan frowned and tightened her hold.
“Cough, goddess, that’s a bit tight…” Luo Nianshu gasped.
“Go. We’ve got a flight to catch,” Qiao Jinyan huffed, loosening her grip just a bit.
