Chapter 56: Bouquet and Card
Wen Xi actually had a bit of trouble making choices, but since Lu Xuan Yi was also resting, Wen Xi pulled her into helping her pick.
Lu Xuan Yi: “…” Fine.
An hour and a half later, Wen Xi went downstairs to receive the perfectly preserved flowers from the delivery person.
She had barely held the flowers for two minutes when Wen Xi heard someone call out to her: “Twilight?”
Wen Xi paused, turned around, and looked at the speaker, who was followed by a couple of assistants.
It was an actress Wen Xi had collaborated with before; Wen Xi had shot a set of photos for her.
The actress smiled. “I didn’t expect it to really be you. I was worried I got the wrong person.”
Wen Xi smiled politely. “Long time no see.”
“It has been. The last time we met was on the red carpet, and we didn’t even get a chance to say hello,” the actress said. “But what are you doing here…”
Wen Xi’s heart tightened. As it stood, she and Shen Yu were somewhat acquainted, but not close enough for a set visit, and certainly not close enough to share a suite.
“Are you looking for Lu Xuan Yi?” The actress offered an understanding smile. “It’s rare to see you visit a set.”
Everyone knew that Lu Xuan Yi and Wen Xi had a good relationship.
“Yes, right, I’m here to visit her set.” Wen Xi pursed her lips, diverting the conversation.
“Are the flowers for her too?”
“…Yes.”
“When do you plan to go over?” The actress hinted with her eyes. “These flowers don’t last long; they won’t be fresh tomorrow. My film crew and Xiao Lu’s are next to each other. Shall I give you a ride over?”
“No need, Sis,” Wen Xi smiled. “Don’t trouble yourself. I have something to do right now and will go over a bit later.”
“It’s no trouble, but if you have something to do, forget it,” the actress waved her hand. “Then you can contact me when you come back. After all, we’re staying in the same hotel.”
Refusing once was fine, but refusing twice might seem unfriendly.
Wen Xi could only nod and agree.
When Wen Xi returned upstairs, her expression finally changed slightly, showing some irritation.
She hated having her well-laid plans forcibly disrupted.
But… she was still in a “secret relationship” with Shen Yu, a relationship that couldn’t be public. She was terrified of not hiding the relationship well enough, allowing others to catch a glimpse and expose a huge scoop.
She first messaged Yu Yan about the incident.
T.T: “I originally wanted to give Shen Yu a surprise. I’m troubling you again. I’ll try to get back early.”
Yu Yan: “Things happen unexpectedly! I’ll stall the boss for a bit!”
Wen Xi struggled to type out a few words.
T.T: “I’m very sorry, I’m troubling you again.”
Yu Yan: “No trouble at all! The boss will definitely be happy you’re here.”
After chatting with Yu Yan, she also notified Lu Xuan Yi.
Lu Xuan Yi: “!! Great, great, welcome! I’ll have my assistant pick you up.”
T.T: “You got off easy.”
Wen Xi made a small joke. Lu Xuan Yi was her friend, and she couldn’t let her feel bad because the flowers were meant for someone else, as if saying Lu Xuan Yi wasn’t as important as Shen Yu.
In Wen Xi’s heart, both friends and partners were important.
However, an hour later, when Wen Xi arrived at the set, her visible fatigue was noticed by Lu Xuan Yi.
Wen Xi waited for a while in Lu Xuan Yi’s RV while Lu Xuan Yi was practicing her lines.
As soon as she got into the RV, Lu Xuan Yi grabbed the water cup on the table and took a sip, then started taking pictures of the bouquet Wen Xi brought from various angles.
“Planning to post it on Weibo?” Wen Xi asked.
Lu Xuan Yi said, “Definitely! I have to let others know you came here to visit my set.”
Since the two were familiar, many things didn’t need to be explicitly stated.
“Post the Weibo later then,” Wen Xi chuckled, and her smile faded as she apologized. “Sorry, I had to use you as a cover.”
“It’s nothing,” Lu Xuan Yi said carelessly.
The two chatted for a while, and Lu Xuan Yi couldn’t help but sigh.
“Why aren’t you happy even though you’re visiting the set? You haven’t seen her for a week or two, have you? Be happier.”
“I’m not unhappy,” Wen Xi’s smile, which had just appeared because of Lu Xuan Yi’s words, dropped again. “…I feel very down. I can’t be happy.”
“I don’t know how to cheer you up about this,” Lu Xuan Yi frowned slightly. “Leaving everything else aside, if it were me, I’d be annoyed too. But I remember that person wasn’t exactly warm-hearted, so why is she so enthusiastic towards you?”
Wen Xi shook her head. “I don’t know. I don’t plan to take her car back. I’ll find another excuse.”
Lu Xuan Yi said, “You should be wary of those who are too enthusiastic. The entertainment industry is deep water.”
Lu Xuan Yi then asked, “How long do you plan to stay?”
“I’ll sit for another hour,” Wen Xi said. “I need to leave early. I want to rush back to surprise her. I’ll make up the time with you in a few days.”
“Fine by me. No worries. You two should enjoy yourselves. Now that you’re back together, don’t overthink things.” Lu Xuan Yi got up and patted Shen Yu’s shoulder. “So, do you want to wear a mask? Come down and watch me film.”
Lu Xuan Yi opened a nearby drawer and handed a mask to Wen Xi.
Wen Xi paused, not taking it. “No, I won’t wear it. I used to be afraid Shen Yu would recognize me, but now I don’t have that concern.”
Lu Xuan Yi raised an eyebrow and smiled. “Then let’s go! It’s rare for you to have time. You have to witness my charm in person this time.”
“Real charm or fake charm?” Wen Xi knew Lu Xuan Yi was playing a supporting female role in a modern drama this time.
Lu Xuan Yi pulled Wen Xi’s arm. “You’ll know if you watch.”
The RV was not far from the filming location. Lu Xuan Yi first took Wen Xi to greet the people nearby. “This is my friend. She finally found time to visit my set.”
The assistant director looked up from behind the camera, watched for a moment, and said, “Xiao Lu, your friend looks familiar. Is she in the industry?”
“Hello, Director Du,” Wen Xi nodded toward the assistant director. “I’m a photographer. We met at the Aiyou Film Festival.”
“Oh, oh, oh, Twilight, right?” Once Wen Xi said that, Director Du had some recollection and laughed. “Bring a chair for this young lady to sit on. You’ll be spending a fair bit of time watching the scenes here.”
“It’s fine, no need to trouble yourselves,” Lu Xuan Yi waved her hand. “I’ll have her stand next to my assistant. She won’t be staying long.”
“If you have arrangements, that’s fine,” Director Du nodded. “If I had known you two were close, I would have asked Xiao Lu to pull some strings for me. Last time, I wanted to work with you, but there was either no opportunity or no time.”
These were just polite formalities, and Wen Xi didn’t take them too seriously. “Then, next time, Director Du can contact me directly. We can definitely collaborate.”
“That’s no problem,” Director Du chuckled a few times.
Given the assistant director’s position, and especially since Wen Xi was a friend brought by the supporting female lead, the surrounding crew members quietly observed her.
Those who knew Twilight widened their eyes silently. Those who didn’t were reminded of Shen Yu’s past negative trending topics once someone gave them the lowdown.
—So the real person is this beautiful.
Lu Xuan Yi went off to film. Wen Xi stood next to her assistant, holding the water the assistant had just bought, with her other arm crossed in front of her, her fingers tapping her elbow.
“It must be tough waiting here,” Wen Xi commented.
The assistant, also a young woman, was constantly checking Lu Xuan Yi’s status. “It’s not as tough as Sister Lu’s work. This is nothing for me.”
Wen Xi nodded.
She didn’t wait long before someone quietly asked her for a joint photo.
Wen Xi smiled and said, “Yes, but you might have to post the photo tonight. I’m just visiting the set, so I’m not important.”
The girl who asked was a bit excited. “I totally get it. You have to hide your face too.” Twilight was notoriously low-key and didn’t want most people to know she was there, which was why she would post on Weibo at night to show off the photo. The girl immediately understood.
Wen Xi hadn’t thought that far ahead; she just wanted to give Shen Yu a surprise.
She could be very stubborn sometimes. If she wanted to do something, she had to see it through. Her goal today was only to surprise Shen Yu while also outwardly signaling that she was visiting Lu Xuan Yi’s set, and she wanted to avoid any connection between herself and Shen Yu in public.
So, Wen Xi didn’t explain further. A few more girls came over, and Wen Xi gave the same reply to each one.
She wasn’t worried about too many eyes being on her. Everyone present was in the entertainment industry and knew what could and couldn’t be said. Minor celebrities had to be cautious, while major celebrities didn’t care. Wen Xi hadn’t tried to hide her comment about posting the photo tonight, and those nearby had heard it to some extent.
When Lu Xuan Yi finished that scene, Wen Xi glanced at the time and said, “Time’s up.”
“Go when you need to,” Lu Xuan Yi smiled, then whispered, “I think you could try being an actress. Your acting is so good?”
“Don’t tease me,” Wen Xi smiled. “I’ll treat you to a meal in a few days.”
“Then I’ll pick an expensive place.”
Wen Xi was led out by Lu Xuan Yi’s assistant, but she declined the assistant’s offer to drive her part of the way.
After a busy afternoon, it was now 5:30 PM.
She had just contacted Yu Yan, who said they would finish work at 7 PM tonight.
Wen Xi then messaged the actress she had met in the afternoon, saying she was very sorry but had to return to the hotel due to an urgent work matter.
The actress replied that she understood.
Wen Xi looked at the message and couldn’t help but smile.
Many things that caused her distress were just trivial matters in other people’s eyes.
She took a taxi to a highly-rated flower shop, where she carefully selected a bouquet of flowers.
While the clerk was wrapping it, Wen Xi asked for a small card.
She wrote: Thank you for still loving me, and for being willing to love me. They always say that feelings change easily, but after ten years, my love for you is the same as before.
For the signature, Wen Xi very deliberately signed her full name.
She remembered a long time ago, Wen Xi cried as she texted a flower shop employee, asking them to write a message for her. At that time, Wen Xi thought she and Shen Yu would never see each other again.
How fortunate that Shen Yu hadn’t forgotten her, and that she was standing where Shen Yu could find her.
An ordinary red carpet event reconnected the red thread that had been broken for ten years, binding them tightly once again.
