Chapter 55: Arriving at the Hotel
Shortly after, Wen Xi used her own account to repost Qin Lu’s Weibo post.
Twilight: “A very pleasant collaboration. Thank you for the trust!”
The comment growth speed for Wen Xi’s repost was faster than ever before.
She also saw many terms she didn’t understand.
“The joint photo of the two is too authoritative!”
“T Boss is so beautiful ww, she looks so thin! Shen Yu, make her eat more!”
“Yumu f is eating too well, right? I feel a little sorry for myself, the CP I ship seems like they don’t even know each other… (smoking emoji)”
Wen Xi didn’t know how to reply to the comments in the front row. She didn’t even know what ‘Yumu f’ meant, so she scrolled further down the comments.
“Last time, Yu was still saying there would be a chance to collaborate! I didn’t expect the collaboration to come so quickly! T Boss must be secretly delighted! I remember your Weibo followed Yu a long time ago!”
Wen Xi replied: “Yes, I am honored to collaborate with Reflection and Ms. Shen Yu. I am genuinely happy (crying yellow bean emoji.jpg)”
“T Teacher, tell me honestly, are you secretly thrilled?”
Wen Xi replied: “I think I’m openly thrilled.”
The sneak peeks released for this magazine featured no unusual costumes. The lighting and atmosphere were perfectly controlled, highly aligning with contemporary aesthetics, and even giving a fresh, eye-catching feel.
On the day of the magazine’s pre-sale, sales broke Shen Yu’s previous records, reaching a new peak, a result of the collaboration between Shen Yu and Wen Xi.
As for the subsequent trending topic when people received their orders and discovered the autographed postcards, that was a story for later.
A few days later, Shen Yu was scheduled to join the film crew, this time for a shoot lasting two months.
Wen Xi had been speeding up her work these past few days, trying her best not to work overtime and even leaving early once her daily tasks were completed. The reason was simply that she couldn’t bear Shen Yu’s resentful look. Wen Xi had a big surprise planned, but to keep it a secret, she had to secretly rejoice in her heart.
A few weeks later, Pu Tao dropped Wen Xi off at the airport, feigning tears. “Boss… do you really not need me?”
“You can come too,” Wen Xi took her luggage from Pu Tao’s hand. “I’ll get you a separate room.”
“Wouldn’t that be awkward?” Pu Tao twisted slightly. “If I go, won’t your partner dislike me for being a third wheel?”
Wen Xi only shook her head and uttered two words. “Hard to say.”
Shen Yu’s assistant, Yu Yan, had sent Wen Xi a message.
Yu Yan: “Teacher Wen, I’ll be at parking lot number two. Text me when you land. I’ll meet you at the exit.”
Wen Xi: “Okay, thank you. Won’t Shen Yu be suspicious if you come out like this? Actually, you don’t need to trouble yourself. I can take a taxi to the hotel.”
Yu Yan: “It’s more convenient for me to pick you up! Plus, the boss won’t be suspicious. I told her I was on my period and had a stomachache, so I’m taking the day off to rest at the hotel.”
Wen Xi laughed. This was the same excuse students used when trying to skip school.
Wen Xi: “Then I’m troubling you.”
Yu Yan: “You’re welcome, Teacher Wen. You’re the boss’s wife to me.”
“Alright,” Wen Xi smiled faintly at Pu Tao. “If we reach security, let’s stop here. I’ll only be staying for two weeks and will be back soon.”
Pu Tao put her hands on her hips. “It’s fine if you come back later! After all, when you leave, I’m the boss of the studio!”
“Alright, alright, Boss.”
The flight took about three hours, and Wen Xi slept through most of it.
To make time for these two weeks, she had been working overtime after Shen Yu left, with little rest. She had gone to bed at 1 AM last night and woke up at 6 AM this morning.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t a full two weeks. She still had one or two commercial photography jobs that required flying to other cities.
However, Wen Xi estimated that these trips would be a one-day affair—going there one day and returning that same evening.
As she slept, Wen Xi wore her Bluetooth earphones, which were playing a song sung by Shen Yu.
The airport was not close to Hengdian. By the time Yu Yan drove Wen Xi to the hotel downstairs, it was nearly noon.
“Teacher Wen, what would you like to eat?” After parking the car, Yu Yan helped Wen Xi take down her luggage.
“Can I still get the film crew’s lunchbox right now?” Wen Xi asked.
“Yes, the boss usually eats the film crew’s lunchbox too,” Yu Yan said. “But the taste is only mediocre.”
“It’s okay. I want to try it.” Wen Xi agreed.
Wen Xi was purely curious. She often heard people say that film crew food was just average, but in various set leaks, Shen Yu was always seen eating the boxed meals with everyone and rarely asked for special treatment.
The rare exception was probably when she last went to Reflection for the magazine shoot, where she ordered private kitchen food to treat Wen Xi.
Yu Yan led Wen Xi upstairs. The hotel had provided two room cards for Shen Yu’s room, as Yu Yan might occasionally return to the hotel to retrieve forgotten items.
Yu Yan now handed the room card to Wen Xi.
Before leaving, Yu Yan gave a few instructions. “This entire floor is occupied by the film crew’s actors, but everyone should be out during the day. If anyone asks, just say you’re the boss’s friend, here to visit the set.”
Due to the nature of the film crew, Yu Yan had just taken Wen Xi to the hotel front desk to register her face.
Wen Xi nodded.
However, she thought it was best not to leave the room, to avoid running into anyone.
This was truly a case of “hiding a beauty in a golden house.”
Wen Xi wasn’t a public figure, just a striking-looking person. She didn’t even bother wearing a mask.
On the way to the hotel, the most she did was let the scarf around her neck cover her chin slightly.
Yu Yan secretly returned to the film set and was caught red-handed by Shen Yu.
Shen Yu frowned slightly. “I thought you weren’t feeling well?”
Yu Yan lightly coughed. “I got hungry.”
“Am I paying you too little?” Shen Yu asked. “You can’t afford anything else, so you came back to eat this?”
Shen Yu’s words subtly implied that Yu Yan was deliberately enduring hardship.
Yu Yan: “…”
But you eat this too.
Yu Yan was frustrated but dared not speak her mind, silently taking a boxed meal.
Midway, she winked at Ke Han.
Shen Yu paused, suppressing her confusion.
She picked up the lunchbox, returned to the lounge, and started typing on her phone.
S: “Did you eat lunch?”
Wen Xi replied instantly.
T.T: “I ate!”
S: “What did you eat? Send me a picture.”
T.T: “It was Mapo Tofu and lotus root and pork rib soup. I finished it all. You should have texted me earlier.”
Shen Yu smiled and sent Wen Xi a picture of her own lunch.
S: “I’m eating this.”
Wen Xi didn’t need to open the picture to know it looked very green.
When she opened it, it was indeed very green: Stir-fried meat with chili peppers, boiled Chinese cabbage, and minced pork with peas.
T.T: “…Very healthy.”
S: “It’s kind of like high school all over again.”
The food in their high school cafeteria was terrible, but the school mandated that students must eat in the cafeteria.
In her first year of high school, Shen Yu could still get takeout from the cafeteria lady, but after moving out, she had to eat the cafeteria food.
However, even when eating at the cafeteria, they wouldn’t sit together, usually sitting a few tables apart.
Once, the food was particularly awful, and Wen Xi had no appetite, putting down her chopsticks after only a few bites. Shen Yu saw this. The ‘princess,’ relying on her agility, climbed over the back wall to buy Jiangxiang Bing (a type of savory pancake) from outside the school and then secretly handed it to Wen Xi.
Wen Xi didn’t know what to say, especially since this meal would soon be delivered to her.
T.T: “But it’s very healthy.]
‘Healthy’ was the school’s justification back then, claiming that outside food was unhealthy, but the cafeteria food was healthy.
T.T: “If you’ve lost your appetite like that, why aren’t you eating something better?”
I thought the boxed meal would be good.
S: “I’m lazy, and too busy. As long as it fills my stomach.”
Wen Xi was stunned. Shen Yu must have sensed Wen Xi’s confusion, as the next message popped up quickly.
S: “You are different. You are too thin. You must eat well and gain some weight.”
S: “I want to see results when I get back. I’ve felt you up; I know exactly how much flesh you have.”
Wen Xi: ..???
She immediately threw her phone onto the hotel bed, her entire face feeling like it was on fire.
She couldn’t help but raise her hand and rub her face. It was burning hot.
Wen Xi had just been exploring Shen Yu’s room.
It was a medium-to-large suite, with a balcony and a washing machine outside.
There weren’t many clothes in the closet, probably because Shen Yu figured she would mostly be wearing costumes on set.
Wen Xi unpacked her own things, placing her clothes right next to Shen Yu’s.
She hadn’t brought toiletries; Shen Yu had everything. By using Shen Yu’s, she would smell the same as Shen Yu after a shower.
When Yu Yan knocked on the door, the warmth hadn’t yet faded from Wen Xi’s face.
Yu Yan said, “Is the room too stuffy?”
It was still too early in the year to turn on the air conditioning, so the doors and windows were closed tightly.
Wen Xi quickly waved her hands. “No, I was just unpacking my luggage and got a little warm.”
Yu Yan nodded understandingly. “Teacher Wen, your meal is here. I won’t bother you anymore. I need to rest a bit more before heading back to the set.”
Wen Xi asked, “When will you all finish?”
“Maybe six or seven o’clock?” Yu Yan roughly estimated the time. “If the actors have too many bloopers, it might be a bit later.”
“That sounds tough,” Wen Xi commented.
Yu Yan smiled. “But the pay is good.”
Yu Yan didn’t linger, said goodbye, and left.
Wen Xi sat on a nearby sofa and tasted the boxed meal.
—Familiar mass-produced food.
Before she could take more than a few bites, Lu Xuan Yi’s phone call came through.
“Are you there? Are you there?” Lu Xuan Yi’s voice was cheerful.
“I’m here,” Wen Xi poked the rice with her chopsticks. “It hasn’t even been half an hour.”
“When are you coming to see me? I’m so bored.” Lu Xuan Yi sighed, lying on a chaise lounge. “It’s no different from a palace struggle here. Everyone is so manipulative it scares me.”
Lu Xuan Yi and Shen Yu were filming in the same city, but the two film sets were more than ten kilometers apart.
“In a few days,” Wen Xi raised her hand and yawned. “I just arrived today. I’m waiting for her to come back to the hotel first.”
Lu Xuan Yi smacked her lips. “Afraid she’ll get jealous if she finds out you came to see me first.”
“No,” Wen Xi chuckled. “But she does get jealous easily.”
Before Lu Xuan Yi could tease her further, Wen Xi asked, “Do you have any recommendations for flower shops nearby?”
“Most flower shops around here should be decent. The bad ones won’t last more than a few days,” Lu Xuan Yi said. “Why are you asking?”
This was a film and television city. Actors wrapping up or fans visiting the set often needed bouquets, so there were naturally many flower shops.
“What else would it be for? To send to Shen Yu,” Wen Xi said naturally.
Lu Xuan Yi’s voice got a bit louder. “Is she wrapping up already?!”
Didn’t they just start filming?
Wen Xi lightly snorted. “Do I need to find a special time to send flowers to my girlfriend? I send them when I want to.”
“D*mn it!” Lu Xuan Yi said angrily. “What about me?”
“When you wrap up,” Wen Xi replied like a queen.
Lu Xuan Yi unceremoniously hung up the phone.
Wen Xi looked at the food in front of her and sighed silently. She shouldn’t have been curious.
She quickly ate a few large bites, then started cleaning up, planning to throw it away later.
Afterward, she started checking the reviews of nearby flower shops on an app.
Many reviews included pictures. While checking the negative reviews, Wen Xi also looked at the photos of the returned bouquets.
She planned to call a delivery service to bring the flowers downstairs to the hotel for her.
