Chapter 54: A Joint Photo
The next day, Pu Tao got Shen Yu’s car key early. She exchanged a look with Shen Yu. “Boss, I’ll be leaving now.”
“Okay, drive safe,” Wen Xi leaned out and said. “Tell me how much the car wash is.”
“Will do!” Pu Tao nodded.
As Pu Tao went downstairs, she received a message from Shen Yu.
S: “Be careful. Call me if anything feels wrong.”
Taotaotao: “Don’t worry, Ms. Shen Yu.”
Pu Tao, wearing a mask, went downstairs before them.
After they were alone in the room, Wen Xi stood on her toes, placed a hand on Shen Yu’s shoulder, and used the other hand to lift Shen Yu’s chin. “Let’s go, my assistant teacher.”
Shen Yu chuckled, holding Wen Xi’s hand that was resting on her shoulder. “Let’s go, Boss.”
The word ‘Boss’ seemed to have a few extra inflections when Shen Yu said it.
Wen Xi lightly coughed and looked away.
“Keep your mask on properly. You are not allowed to get out of the car without my permission,” Wen Xi said, sounding weak but morally justified.
Shen Yu naturally replied: “Okay, I’ll listen to you.”
When they arrived at the location, Shen Yu stayed in the car as promised, but she lowered the car window halfway. As long as Wen Xi turned her head and looked towards the parking spot, she could see Shen Yu.
Pu Tao had only driven a mile or two when she identified the target, a car model identical to the one Shen Yu had described.
Pu Tao couldn’t help but frown.
There really were paparazzi; this was going to be troublesome.
Pu Tao immediately messaged Shen Yu. When the car arrived near the car wash, she didn’t rush to get out. As instructed by Shen Yu, she first called the police.
While communicating with the police, Pu Tao also clarified that it was Shen Yu’s car.
It was common for celebrities to be followed by paparazzi, but since Shen Yu’s team wasn’t here, the police had to intervene. Celebrities are people too, and unauthorized secret filming is illegal.
Besides… the paparazzi hadn’t taken anything bad, right?
Pu Tao thought that with the police present when demanding the deletion of photos, she just had to pray there were no inappropriate pictures.
The police arrived quickly. The paparazzi were two young men, and there was a huge camera inside the car. The police already had their verdict but still asked a few routine questions.
When the police asked the paparazzi to delete the photos, Pu Tao leaned closer to take a look.
Most of them were photos of them shopping and Shen Yu dropping Wen Xi off or picking her up from work. However, Wen Xi’s face was captured very clearly in them.
The police didn’t recognize Wen Xi, so they thought she was a civilian. They frowned and said, “People nowadays are so bored. Taking unauthorized pictures of two young girls shopping. It’s not like they’re dating.”
Pu Tao could only offer a forced laugh in agreement.
Pu Tao had to follow the police back to the station. She also, using Shen Yu’s authority, whispered to the paparazzi, “Look who you dared to photograph.”
The two paparazzi looked young, likely hot-headed.
It was the first time they had been brought to the police station. Sweat beaded on their foreheads.
It was two hours later when Pu Tao finally emerged.
Shen Yu raised her car window when she received Pu Tao’s call.
Shen Yu spoke calmly, “Where are they from?”
“It’s a small, recently opened company,” Pu Tao told Shen Yu the name. “They’re quite bold.”
“What did they photograph?”
“All very normal things. Shopping, eating, and even the drop-offs and pick-ups can just be explained as living with a good friend. It’s perfectly normal and doesn’t make for a big story.”
Shen Yu was about to breathe a sigh of relief when Pu Tao added, “However, the boss’s face was captured very clearly.”
Shen Yu’s eyes instantly turned cold. “Got it. Thank you for your hard work.”
Pu Tao said, “I used to wonder why the boss wasn’t willing to show her face, even asking people to cover her face when she attended offline events, but now I think she was probably afraid of you finding out.”
“I know,” Shen Yu smiled very lightly. “But now I have to protect her.”
Regardless of the reason, not showing her face was a good thing now.
Wen Xi now had a stable life and job. Even if she was a semi-public figure, she was an ordinary person on the street.
After hanging up, Shen Yu messaged Ke Han.
S: “Check into this company.”
Ke Han: “I understand. By the way, the bodyguards I arranged for you will be on duty this afternoon.”
Just as Shen Yu was about to reply, someone tapped on the car window next to her.
Shen Yu saw it was Wen Xi and quickly lowered the window.
Wen Xi stared intently at Shen Yu for a few seconds. “Why did you lower the window?”
Shen Yu reached out her hand and smoothed Wen Xi’s slightly messy stray hairs. “I was just looking at some documents, and the sun was a bit glaring.”
Wen Xi reluctantly accepted the explanation. “Alright then.”
“Is it going smoothly?”
“Very smoothly. We only need two more sets, and then we can go home!”
Shen Yu smiled faintly. “Good, I’m waiting for you.”
Meanwhile, hundreds of miles away in Suishi.
The dimly lit villa was almost silent, with little external light penetrating inside.
The former dignity was gone. The middle-aged man looked pale and much thinner than before.
He sat blankly in a chair, with a newspaper from several weeks ago placed in front of him.
After a long while, a woman cautiously pushed the door open and handed him a phone. “Old Shen, the photos have been sent over. They want more money…”
Shen Zeshou’s empty eyes finally lit up. A ruthless look appeared on his face as he took his wife’s phone and zoomed in on Wen Xi’s face.
He muttered to himself, “It’s this person, it’s her…”
His wife hesitated. “So, what should we do?”
“Wait a little longer,” Shen Zeshou gripped the phone. “Now is not the time. I have to catch Shen Yu off guard. I have to let my good daughter experience what I’m feeling.”
When Shen Zeshou was still competing with other companies for collaborations, Shen Yu and Shen Shi stabbed him in the back. He lost his contract, and his position as Chairman was revoked.
Now, after stripping him of his power, they threw him into this remote place and told him to enjoy his retirement…
Shen Zeshou laughed. His daughter was smart, but she wouldn’t always have a backup plan.
Today’s client saw Wen Xi constantly looking towards the car whenever she had a free moment and joked, “Why does Teacher Twilight keep looking over there? Is the driver so attractive?”
“No, she’s not the driver.” Wen Xi subconsciously rubbed her earlobe. “She’s the new assistant.”
“The assistant gets such good treatment?” The client laughed. “She doesn’t even have to work. Are you hiring any more assistants? I could apply.”
Wen Xi immediately thought of an excuse. “She’s allergic to UV rays, so it’s inconvenient for her to come out.”
Wen Xi thought her brain was working quickly, and it fit well since Shen Yu was fully covered.
“I see, then she should stay in the car.” The client said.
The shoot ended quickly. When the two got home, they still had time to make lunch.
However…
“I’m allergic to UV rays? How did I not know that?” Shen Yu pressed Wen Xi against the floor-to-ceiling window.
The sun wasn’t strong today; in this season, it could be called warm, gentle, and relaxing on the skin.
“You heard that,” Wen Xi pushed against Shen Yu’s chest. “It was just an excuse.”
Wen Xi looked up at Shen Yu. In the sunlight, Shen Yu’s hair seemed to change color.
Shen Yu smiled softly. “An excuse? Then help me see, do I have any red spots?”
As Shen Yu spoke, she leaned down and kissed Wen Xi’s lips. She released Wen Xi after a long while and asked, “How many minutes was that?”
A film of moisture formed over Wen Xi’s eyes. She panted, “I… I don’t know.”
“But the time is enough. I absorbed quite a bit of sunlight.” After saying that, Shen Yu embraced Wen Xi and coaxed her into the bedroom.
Before long, Shen Yu’s voice was low and husky. “Baby, quick, help me check. Do I have any red spots on my body?”
Later, Wen Xi thumped Shen Yu’s shoulder, her voice annoyed. “You’re just looking for excuses to bully me!”
Shen Yu looked surprised. “Did you only just find out?”
Wen Xi’s vision went black, and she collapsed backward onto the bed.
In short, the plan to cook their own lunch turned into ordering takeout from a private kitchen.
Shen Yu was justifiably self-righteous; she had done her work, after all.
Wen Xi wore her pajamas, still slightly damp from her shower. She angrily poked the rice in her bowl. “Is Pu Tao back?”
“She’s back,” Shen Yu poured juice into Wen Xi’s glass. “I told her to keep driving my car for a bit longer.”
“What about you?”
Shen Yu wore an expression that suggested Wen Xi already knew the answer. “Of course, I’m driving the car you bought.”
“You leave your expensive car unused,” Wen Xi smiled, then changed her tone, “to drive my old car?”
The car Wen Xi bought wasn’t old, costing about 100,000 yuan. It was only meant for Pu Tao’s convenience for work and just needed to be decent.
It certainly couldn’t compare to Shen Yu’s car. Although Wen Xi hadn’t driven, she recognized a few luxury car brands.
“I just want to drive your car,” Shen Yu said frankly. “I want to experience what it’s like to be supported by my wife.”
Wen Xi nearly choked.
“The magazine pre-sale is next Saturday,” Wen Xi awkwardly changed the subject. “How many postcards have you signed?”
“About seven or eight thousand, I think,” Shen Yu put a piece of meat into Wen Xi’s bowl. “Eat quickly, the food is getting cold.”
Shen Yu was much more controlling of Wen Xi now. She insisted on a balanced diet, no longer letting Wen Xi eat dry bread for breakfast. Sometimes, Shen Yu would bring back warm breakfast after her morning run.
Many times, it wasn’t that Wen Xi was a picky eater; she just lacked an appetite. Shen Yu would softly plead with her.
Wen Xi was happy to be managed by Shen Yu. Looking at the health plan Shen Yu set for her, she felt joy in her heart.
Because Shen Yu cared about her and loved her.
At the same time, Wen Xi and Shen Yu’s CP fans on Weibo were celebrating once again.
Qin Lu, the chief editor of Reflection, posted on Weibo as usual to drum up excitement for the new magazine, though Shen Yu herself was a huge source of attention.
Qin Lu: “New friend and old friend.”
She included three pictures. The first two were separate joint photos of Wen Xi and Shen Yu with Qin Lu. However, the last picture didn’t feature Qin Lu; it was a joint photo of Wen Xi and Shen Yu.
In the picture, Wen Xi wore a black mask, revealing expressive and delicate eyes. Her slightly curled long hair, paired with air bangs, gave her a presence that didn’t lose to Shen Yu’s.
And the thing was, in the third joint photo, the two were standing very close. Shen Yu was even leaning her head in and smiling, her gaze fixed on Wen Xi.
The pose was beautiful, and Shen Yu’s side-smile was gentle and lovely, but the problem was, wasn’t Shen Yu’s gaze too sticky? It was practically dripping with affection!
Dare to ask, had Shen Yu ever looked at anyone else with that expression?
The number of posts in the ‘Yumu’ super-topic surged instantly.
“Ahhh, even though Twilight only showed her eyes, she feels so beautiful ahhhhh!”
“Yumu is real!! No explanation needed!!”
“Shen Yu suspected of leading the CP shipping, I don’t need an explanation!”
