Chapter 127: Which is More Important: Flowers or Marriage?
The night in Haicheng was serene. The calm sea reflected a crescent moon. Wave after wave rippled onto the beach, the spray leaping up before returning to the sea.
Xia Shinan closed her eyes, listening to the distant sound of the waves. She felt like a sponge doll thrown into the water, thoroughly soaked. As long as Tang Yin moved slightly or squeezed, she was filled with water again.
“Stop, Tang Tang,” she whispered, her breathing shallow and shaky with Tang Yin’s movements. A small pearl of wetness hung from the corner of her eye, which only made Tang Yin want to tease her more.
Tang Yin nibbled at the soft spot below her collarbone but didn’t stop the movement. The combined visual and sonic impact on her nerves made her feel it wasn’t enough. She and Xia Shinan weren’t close enough; they needed to merge, forever and ever…
The sound of water rushed in the bathroom. After Tang Yin cleaned Xia Shinan, she carried her back to the bedroom before cleaning herself. Xia Shinan felt like her whole body was falling apart. She opened her eyes, saw the water-stained pillow, instantly blushed, and tossed it off the bed.
Out of sight, out of mind… Otherwise, she would remember how Tang Yin had begged her to do it again, her eyes growing darker and her breathing heavier.
Never, ever again will I be soft-hearted! Xia Shinan clenched her fists, making a firm resolve.
Tang Yin cleaned up, roughly blow-dried her hair, and immediately went to the bedroom, not wanting Xia Shinan to be alone for too long. She entered to see Xia Shinan wearing the pink nightgown, leaning against the headboard, watching a movie.
This was a scene she had longed for.
Tang Yin pursed her lips, walked over, and nestled Xia Shinan in her arms. “Haven’t finished the movie yet?”
“No, I fell asleep while waiting for you this afternoon.”
Tang Yin inhaled the scent of her hair. They used the same shampoo, yet she always felt Xia Shinan’s hair smelled better.
“Let’s watch together.”
“Okay, should we start over?”
“No need, let’s watch from here.” Tang Yin had seen the movie before, more than once, in fact.
For five years, she had searched for and collected things related to Xia Shinan.
Xia Shinan liked vases, so Tang Yin collected countless ones. Xia Shinan loved the summer limited edition cake from that SX store, so Tang Yin would buy one every year.
She often watched the movies Xia Shinan mentioned, trying to figure out which character Xia Shinan liked and which scene touched her the most…
Now, she was no longer alone, and her past speculations could be confirmed by the person herself.
“I like the younger sister. She is clear-headed and independent, yet she maintains a beautiful outlook on life and is always kind to people. Although she doesn’t have the popular ‘decisive, kill-them-all, revenge-is-sweet’ persona that the older sister has, she always sticks to her own principles.”
“Mhm… I guessed you would like the younger sister too.”
Xia Shinan found it odd. How could Tang Yin’s tone sound so happy while watching a movie that was somewhat heavy?
“Tang Tang, what are you smiling about?”
Tang Yin: “Nothing, I just suddenly remembered that this is the first time we’ve watched a movie together since we got back together.”
Xia Shinan blinked. “Didn’t we watch one in the hospital?”
“But at that time…” Tang Yin’s sentence broke off midway. She paused for two seconds, realized something, and smiled. “I was too foolish.”
She then kissed Xia Shinan on the nose. “I realize I missed out on so much.” Then she continued to kiss Xia Shinan’s lips.
“Mhm… I don’t want to do it again,” The kiss changed from a light peck to an intense one. Xia Shinan tasted what Tang Yin would do next and spoke up.
“Last time, then we sleep.” Tang Yin buried her face deep in Xia Shinan’s hair, took a deep breath, and burrowed lower. Soon, a noticeable arch appeared beneath the thin blanket, which only covered up to her collarbone.
The next second, Xia Shinan propped up her upper body with her elbow, breathing hard through her lips. She couldn’t help but tilt her head back, her collarbone more prominent now. Her fingers tightly gripped the blanket. “Don’t suck…”
Bad Tang Tang, utterly naughty.
Xia Shinan was scheduled to stay in Haicheng for a week, then transfer to Jingcheng to film a variety show. There was an interview program one day in Haicheng, eliminating the need to travel back and forth, allowing the small couple to spend a few more days together.
“The editor-in-chief of that program has always wanted to interview me. I thought about it, and it just so happens I’m free these two days,” Tang Yin said, raising an eyebrow.
Xia Shinan immediately understood. It was because Tang Yin was going to be interviewed. No wonder when the editor-in-chief asked Xia Shinan if the location could be changed to Haicheng, she thought it was quite a nice coincidence.
“CEO Tang, so skilled at using public office for private gain…” Xia Shinan teased with a smile.
“You shouldn’t misuse idioms,” Tang Yin glanced at her. “But in my view, you are more important than everything else. There’s no need for ‘using public office for private gain.’ If you wanted it, I’d give you my position at SN.”
“Why would I want that position? I’m no good at managing a company. What I love to do is act,” Xia Shinan shook her head.
“Alright, then act. I support whatever you want to do,” Tang Yin said, tightly holding her hand.
The surrounding lights dimmed, and the screen in front began playing advertisements. The movie was about to start in five minutes.
Today, the two of them were out on a date, trying to relive the feeling of dating in college. Taking the bus or subway wasn’t convenient since Xia Shinan could easily be recognized, but going to the cinema to watch a movie and then taking a walk by the sea at night was fine.
Unfortunately, the recently released movies weren’t very interesting, so they chose one with few people and at least a passing rating. There weren’t many people inside, and sitting in the second-to-last row was acceptable.
However, this comedy movie was genuinely awful. Right from the start, awkward jokes kept coming. Tang Yin simply started playing with Xia Shinan’s hand, flipping it over, tickling her palm, or pinching her fingers.
“Be serious!” Xia Shinan glared at her, whispering.
“The movie is boring,” Tang Yin looked over with a wronged expression, whispering in Xia Shinan’s ear, “I’d rather look at you.”
Xia Shinan smiled helplessly. But the movie being bad seemed to be a shared thought. The people in the back row were already whispering, and their voices got progressively louder, to the point where Xia Shinan and Tang Yin couldn’t ignore them.
“Holy cow! Shen Zhi announced she’s leaving the entertainment industry… No more acting.”
“You didn’t know? I heard some inside news that Shen Zhi is going to inherit the family business. Capital or artist? Only an idiot wouldn’t choose capital, right?”
“I didn’t know! I wondered why she hadn’t reappeared after saying she was feeling unwell. I thought maybe she had offended someone. If she’s inheriting the family business, that makes sense.”
“Sigh, it’s a pity. I used to really ship her and Xia Shinan’s CP… But if they were real, then one is a popular star and the other a capital mogul—that’s a very exciting setup!”
“Yeah, yeah, I’m going to find fan fiction about them! That wedding photo shoot they did last time made me ship them so hard.”
Xia Shinan listened to the conversation behind her, awkwardly glancing at Tang Yin. The woman had her lips pressed together, her gaze fixed on the screen ahead, her expression grim.
Xia Shinan turned her hand over, actively holding Tang Yin’s, and squeezed it, mimicking Tang Yin’s earlier action.
Tang Yin lowered her eyes for two seconds before saying, “Watch the movie seriously.”
Xia Shinan smiled faintly. She’s jealous again.
In the end, the movie didn’t finish. The two girls in the back genuinely found it boring and left early. The originally sparse movie theater was left with just the two of them.
The movie finally reached the end credits. They didn’t leave their seats. Xia Shinan rested her chin on her hand, looking at Tang Yin. “You smell sour.”
Tang Yin turned her head. “Hm?”
Xia Shinan leaned closer, twitching her nose and sniffing. “Someone’s jealousy is acting up. It’s very sour.”
Tang Yin was momentarily deflated. “Shinan, give me some more time. I still can’t help but be jealous of you and Shen Zhi. After all, she feels…”
Xia Shinan held her hand. “I understand. I just don’t want you to be unhappy, especially since today is our date.”
“Mhm.” Tang Yin nodded, forcing a smile. “Let’s go. The movie’s over. Shall we go eat?”
“Okay.”
Xia Shinan agreed, but she noticed Tang Yin’s smile remained somewhat forced.
The dining location was nearby, but it was rush hour. The usual ten-minute drive had already stretched to twenty minutes, and they had only covered three kilometers.
The car was eerily quiet. Xia Shinan looked at Tang Yin for the seventh or eighth time, only to find her gaze locked onto a large building outside.
Coincidentally, the building’s screen was repeatedly broadcasting content about Shen Zhi’s work and personal photos, likely put together by fans because of her retirement announcement today.
The photos rotated, and Xia Shinan didn’t expect to see the wedding photos they had taken. And Tang Yin… her fingers were gripping the steering wheel, her knuckles prominently white.
Perhaps sensing Xia Shinan’s gaze, Tang Yin turned to look at her, smiling. “I’m fine.”
Xia Shinan: …
A troubled person saying they’re fine is just like a drunk person saying they’re not drunk.
The car finally entered the basement parking lot. Tang Yin parked and unbuckled Xia Shinan’s seatbelt. “Let’s go.”
But Xia Shinan didn’t move. Instead, after a moment of careful thought, she said, “Do you remember five years ago in the mall, I saw a set of couple’s wedding photos and wanted to take them with you? You said we would go on my birthday.”
A hint of panic appeared on Tang Yin’s face. “I’m sorry… I broke my promise. How about we take them every year from now on? I absolutely, definitely won’t break my promise again.”
At that time, she was still internally conflicted and hadn’t taken the matter to heart, which led to a lasting regret.
But why was Xia Shinan suddenly bringing this up? Was she angry because of Tang Yin’s overreaction to Shen Zhi and the wedding photos?
Remembering their argument about Shen Zhi that time, Tang Yin felt a surge of panic and fear. She quickly grabbed Xia Shinan’s hand. “I’m sorry. I was overly sensitive today. I truly felt awful when I heard them discussing you and Shen Zhi. I’m your girlfriend, so why are others talking about another woman? I was hurting… I know your relationship with Shen Zhi is just professional, Shinan, please don’t be angry with me…”
Xia Shinan smiled and shook her head. “Why would I be angry with you?”
Jealousy meant caring, but she just didn’t want Tang Yin to be jealous all the time and be unhappy every day.
“You can be angry with me. Yell at me, hit me, but please don’t…”
Don’t break up.
Tang Yin didn’t dare utter those three words. She was afraid that saying them would make them come true. They had just managed to get back together. If her own senseless jealousy caused them to return to square one, Tang Yin would truly hate herself.
Regret… She had ruined a perfectly good date! Tang Yin wanted to slap herself.
Xia Shinan didn’t know what she was thinking. She smiled and held Tang Yin’s hand. “Tang Tang, how about… we get married?”
Tang Yin, still caught in her worry and fear, froze completely, as if she hadn’t processed the words.
So Xia Shinan repeated, “Let’s get married. We can register tomorrow.”
This time, Tang Yin was certain she had heard correctly. Her heart raced wildly, her mind was blank, and her lips trembled. “But…”
Xia Shinan blinked. “But what? You don’t want to?”
“I do!” Faster than her thoughts were her words. She unconsciously licked her lips. “But I haven’t proposed to you yet. I haven’t prepared a diamond ring, no flowers, no ceremony… nothing.”
She had certainly imagined the proposal scene: the beach, flowers, a diamond ring, drones, and fireworks, etc… She never thought she would be discussing this in an ordinary parking garage, in a car, and with Xia Shinan being the one to suggest it.
Xia Shinan listened to her, smiled, shook her head, and asked with twinkling eyes, “Which is more important: flowers or marriage?”
Tang Yin didn’t hesitate. “Marriage.”
“Proposal, diamond ring, registering the marriage—which is more important?” Xia Shinan asked again.
Tang Yin paused, then leaned forward and kissed Xia Shinan. “Registering the marriage. We’ll go tomorrow.”
