Chapter 114: From Now On, She Will No Longer Have…
The hallway sensor light extinguished after staying lit for one minute. Only the emergency exit sign at the side emitted a faint glow, yet it didn’t seem to affect them at all. Even in the dark, they could find each other.
The two stared at each other, not saying a word, silent in their mutual gaze.
Until a neighbor’s door at the end of the hall opened. A mother and daughter walked out and headed towards the elevator. The woman looked at them curiously but didn’t speak. However, the five or six-year-old girl looked at them with curiosity. “Mommy, is that auntie missing a leg?”
“Don’t talk nonsense!” The woman looked at Tang Yin apologetically. “I’m so sorry, she’s young and speaks without thinking. Quickly apologize to the auntie.”
“I’m sorry…” The little girl pouted, looking like she was about to cry.
Tang Yin finally pulled her gaze away from Xia Shinan and gave the little girl a gentle smile: “It’s okay. Auntie just accidentally fell and fractured her bone. I’ll be fine after resting for a while.”
The little girl nodded, seemingly understanding, then turned to her mother: “Mommy, what is a fracture?”
The woman sighed: “It means getting hurt, the bone broke and needs to be put back together… it’s too complicated to explain to you. Come on, let’s go.”
The elevator arrived. The woman pulled her daughter inside, giving them an apologetic smile in the last second before the doors closed.
After that little interruption, the elevator doors shut. Xia Shinan looked at Tang Yin again, then walked to the security door beside her. While unlocking it with her fingerprint, she said, “Don’t wait at the door for me anymore. What if I was busy with work today and didn’t come back?”
“It’s okay, I can wait,” Tang Yin immediately said. Seeing Xia Shinan open the door, she quickly pushed her wheelchair forward, afraid the other person would close the door. However, the wheelchair couldn’t manage the threshold.
She quickly tried to stand up but wobbled as if she couldn’t steady herself, startling Xia Shinan who immediately rushed to support her.
Xia Shinan’s face was stern. “Can’t you just make things easy for once!”
“I’m sorry,” Tang Yin lowered her head and whispered.
Xia Shinan pursed her lips, helped her onto the sofa inside the apartment, then wheeled the chair in. As she closed the door, she switched on the light. She looked seriously at the woman before her and finally asked, “Why did you come to Yuncheng?”
Tang Yin blinked. She didn’t want to lie to Xia Shinan or use other reasons to conceal the chaos in her heart.
“I saw the magazine you shot with Shen Zhi. I didn’t expect you to take wedding photos.”
As she spoke this sentence, she almost couldn’t help the slight choke in her voice, making her sound less brave than the little girl they met earlier.
“It’s just work,” Xia Shinan said. “Besides this wedding photo shoot, there will be a next time, and a time after that. As I told you before, it’s impossible for me to refuse things like this in my line of work.”
“I know,” Tang Yin quickly said. “I’m sorry, I know I was impulsive. It’s just… Shinan, I’m very sad. Five years ago, I had the chance to take wedding photos with you too.”
Xia Shinan froze, surprised that this was the source of Tang Yin’s sadness.
Tang Yin lowered her eyes, her heart aching terribly. After taking a long breath, she continued, “I understand your work, and I’ve said I respect all your work content. I’m sad because I realize how much I truly missed out on five years ago. How wonderful would it have been if we had taken them beforehand?”
Xia Shinan pursed her lips, her thoughts drifting along with Tang Yin’s words. Her long eyelashes blinked, also tugging at her heartstrings.
“Tang Yin, you should be glad we didn’t take them back then.”
Tang Yin looked up, confused.
Xia Shinan’s expression was utterly calm. “If we had, it would have only hurt me more deeply.”
“I’m sorry.” Hearing her words, Tang Yin couldn’t stop her tears from flowing.
For five years, there hadn’t been a single day when she didn’t regret it, didn’t hate herself. “Shinan, why don’t you hit me?”
Xia Shinan offered a slight smile. “Why would I hit you? You’re a patient now.” She took a deep breath. “So, why did you come all the way here to find me?”
Tang Yin opened her mouth, tears still clinging to her eyelashes. “I just wanted to see you. It seems like doing that calms the chaos in my heart.”
Just that? Xia Shinan felt she wasn’t being completely honest. “Well, you’ve seen me now. I’ll have Zou Yue pick you up and take you to the hotel.”
“No!” Tang Yin immediately grabbed the hem of her shirt. “Shinan, I have something to say.”
In fact, she had figured things out completely during the journey. The talk about being a mistress, or not caring—it was all fake. She cared desperately.
“I want to ask you, are you really in love with Shen Zhi?” Tang Yin looked up at her, craving an honest answer. “Just tell me the truth, don’t worry about me. If you truly love her…”
“Then what will you do?” Xia Shinan asked.
Tang Yin felt her breathing stop for several seconds, her heart tearing with pain, but she endured it. “If you truly love her, then I will let go. I will give you my blessings.”
Xia Shinan clenched her palms, her expression still showing little emotion.
“Didn’t you say you’d be my mistress? Now you want to bless me?”
“I can’t do it! My possessiveness will only grow stronger every day, until I eventually want to monopolize you. I only want you to be mine alone, and I want Shen Zhi or anyone else to stay far away from you!”
Tang Yin grew more agitated, her chest heaving. Then she gave a self-deprecating smile. “But this version of me will scare you, right? I don’t want you to be afraid of me. I don’t want you to hate or despise me. So… if you are with Shen Zhi, I will keep my distance, and I will sincerely wish you happiness, as long as you are happy.”
She would try hard to cover her ears and close her eyes, tricking herself into believing she knew nothing, and perhaps one day, it would be okay.
Keep her distance? Xia Shinan couldn’t help but imagine Tang Yin on a deserted island, a lonely and pitiful sight.
She sighed and said, “I am not with Shen Zhi.”
Tang Yin blinked. “I heard you went on a date that day.”
“Mhm,” Xia Shinan sat beside her, meeting her eyes. “She confessed to me.”
As she spoke, Tang Yin’s face visibly turned panicked. Xia Shinan continued, “But I refused because… I told her I still like you.”
At her words, Tang Yin completely froze, as if doubting what she had heard. Her lips trembled as she asked, “You said… what?”
“I told her the person I like is you,” Xia Shinan repeated. This time, her eyes looked directly into Tang Yin’s pupils, conveying her sincerity.
But she could also see Tang Yin’s disbelief.
“Shinan, you don’t have to comfort me…” Tang Yin fought the urge to hug her, speaking cautiously.
Xia Shinan lowered her eyelids, her voice soft and slow. “Tang Yin, when I heard you left the hospital today, I was scared to death. I was afraid Xia Tong had taken you, and I worried about your safety. In the end, I dropped my work and rushed to Haicheng to find you, but when I got there, Ming Jing told me you had come to Yuncheng to find me.”
Tang Yin looked astonished, then remorseful. “I’m sorry, I was impulsive.”
Xia Shinan smiled at her. “I heard that after you thought I was in the plane crash, you stayed at the airport for many days, just for a near-impossible miracle.”
“When I came back to Yuncheng today, I sat in the airport for a long time too. I suddenly realized that as long as you are okay, as long as you are safe, many things don’t seem to matter anymore.”
Listening to Xia Shinan’s words, Tang Yin first grinned, then her tears flowed even harder. It was undoubtedly like a warrior searching for the most precious treasure, only to realize at the final hurdle that the treasure had been engraved with her name all along.
She had waited so long, repeatedly wrestling with Xia Shinan, and finally, finally, this moment arrived.
“Why are you crying even harder? I said these words after building up a lot of courage. Don’t you like them?” Xia Shinan’s eyes revealed her heartache. She asked, suppressing her own emotion.
“I love them!” Tang Yin tightly grabbed her wrist. Her pitiful appearance was a world away from the usually imposing woman. How could she not love them? These words gently soothed all the wounds in her heart, one by one. Even if tomorrow were the end of the world for her, and she could only live until midnight, she would have no regrets.
But Tang Yin quickly focused on one detail. “Then why didn’t you refute me when I said I’d be your mistress? I thought you and Shen Zhi were really together…”
Xia Shinan gently used her finger to wipe the tears from the tip of Tang Yin’s nose. “Tang Yin, you lied to me five years ago. Isn’t it fair for me to lie to you now?”
Tang Yin frantically shook her head. “It’s not unfair. Not at all! You can keep lying to me. I’d be willing to be lied to for a lifetime! Shinan, as long as you love me, you can lie about anything.”
Xia Shinan listened to her words and chuckled. “Then, can I lie to you about loving you?”
Tang Yin immediately replied, “No.”
Xia Shinan paused for two seconds. “I love you.”
Hearing those three words, Tang Yin burst into tears again. “I know you’re not lying to me.”
Xia Shinan curved her lips and nodded. “Mhm, CEO Tang is very smart.”
Tang Yin restrained herself no longer, pulling Xia Shinan into her arms and kissing her lips.
Xia Shinan naturally hooked her arms around Tang Yin’s neck, just to make the kiss easier and deeper.
Lips and tongues met, breaths exchanged, and Xia Shinan tasted salty tears, though she couldn’t be sure if they were Tang Yin’s or her own. But at this moment, she was absolutely certain that after all the twists and turns, all the internal struggle and entanglement, the one she truly wanted was still Tang Yin.
“Shinan… Xia Shinan…”
Tang Yin murmured, wanting to deeply imprint her name in her heart. She gently ground her lips against the other’s soft ones, unable to get enough.
Tang Yin suddenly remembered the recurring nightmare she always had.
She stood by the sea, the sky raging with a thunderstorm, the waves churning and roaring. She was terrified but couldn’t stop herself from walking further into the ocean. The seawater submerged her waist. Coldness, fear, and loneliness flooded her heart. And from the deep seabed, a voice constantly tempted her: “Come quickly, and you will see the person you want to see.”
The person she wanted to see… She only wanted to see her grandmother, and Xia Shinan.
So she continued to walk forward.
But suddenly, a woman’s voice, cutting through the sky, called out and woke her up.
She abruptly turned around and saw a woman on the shore, frantically calling her back.
Tang Yin saw clearly: it was her Xia Shinan.
Instantly, the thunderstorm stopped, the dark clouds vanished, the sea receded, and she was out of danger.
Tang Yin held Xia Shinan tightly in her arms. Her sun was finally willing to shine on her again. From now on, she will no longer have nightmares.
Her world would no longer have storms, rain, or snow. Every day would be clear skies.
