Chapter 113: If I Don’t Appear Today, She Will Wait Until…
The magazine was released yesterday, sold both online and offline. Xia Shinan had heard Tao Yi mention it yesterday, talking about how much fan support it had generated. At the time, she was busy filming and simply asked Tao Yi to thank the fans and buy some gifts, then continued with her work, completely dismissing the magazine.
Did she see the magazine? Is she jealous? Angry? Or sad?
Xia Shinan frowned slightly. “How long has she been missing?”
“About two hours. When I first came back and didn’t see her, I thought she was in the bathroom. Then I found the bathroom empty, and thought maybe the nurse had taken her for rehab. I waited a while, and when she still didn’t return, I realized something was wrong. I searched the entire hospital and still couldn’t find her…”
Xia Shinan grew anxious too. “Can she walk?”
“She can move a bit, but definitely not walk normally! She needs a wheelchair to go out! This woman truly causes endless worry!” Ming Jing was both desperate and angry. “I had no choice but to ask you. Has she contacted you?”
“No,” Xia Shinan pursed her lips, her expression growing increasingly grim.
Xia Shinan had no idea, but the person was missing… Where could a person with a broken leg, confined to a wheelchair, possibly go?
“I’ll call her. You keep searching, check her house, and contact Zou Yue!”
After hanging up, Xia Shinan immediately called Tang Yin. It took a very long time for the call to connect.
“Hello?” The person who answered sounded very unfamiliar, making Xia Shinan pause for a few seconds.
“Is the owner of the phone there?” Xia Shinan asked.
“I’m a nurse at the hospital. Her phone was left on the bedside table,” the person explained. “Is she with you? Honestly, she just suddenly left without completing the discharge procedures. Everyone is looking for her.”
“I don’t know,” Xia Shinan said, biting her lip.
“Aren’t you her family? I thought you were her lover based on the caller ID.”
Lover… Xia Shinan clutched her phone and asked softly, “What is her note for me?”
The nurse laughed softly. “I’m almost embarrassed to say it…”
The call ended. Xia Shinan was still immersed in the nurse’s words until Tao Yi came over and patted her arm.
“Sister Shinan, the studio is set up, and we’re about to start filming.”
Xia Shinan snapped back to reality and nodded. She looked down at her phone, thought for a moment, and opened Weibo. She saw that she and Shen Zhi were trending, specifically because of the magazine issue. The photo set of her and Shen Zhi in wedding dresses was prominently featured in the search terms.
#XiaShinanShenZhiWeddingPhotos
“These two must be dating, right? Otherwise, they could have shot so many styles of clothing, why specifically choose wedding dresses?”
“OMG, this must be real. Maybe they’ll even get married later?”
Those wild guesses made Xia Shinan’s heart twist. If Tang Yin saw the hot search and these comments, then… with her personality, she definitely wouldn’t feel good.
Yet, remembering Tang Yin’s recent transformation, could she have hidden away to grieve alone? Xia Shinan stared intensely at the screen. Her last chat message with Tang Yin was Tang Yin asking: “When are you coming to pick me up from the hospital?”
Like a child waiting for her older sister to take her home.
At that time, Xia Shinan had already decided on the date to go to Haicheng and thought about surprising her, so she jokingly replied: “A week, I’m very busy lately. Be a good mistress, don’t ask so many questions.”
Tang Yin took a long time to reply with three words filled with grievance: “Got it.”
Looking at the messages now, Xia Shinan was filled with regret. At the same time, a voice deep inside her demanded: Find Tang Yin. She can’t be hurt.
“Xiao Yi, I…” Xia Shinan looked at Tao Yi, noticing the dark circles under her eyes, a result of working non-stop with her recently.
She paused, looking at the staff behind her. Clenching her phone, she hesitated for a few seconds before handing it to Tao Yi. “If anyone calls, bring it to me immediately, even if I’m filming.”
“Okay…” Tao Yi was slightly confused but nodded in agreement. Then she watched Xia Shinan quickly head toward the filming studio.
Today’s commercial shoot was quite complicated. The director was a woman who seemed very meticulous and strict. Her demands for every frame were high, and if the effect wasn’t what she wanted, she would keep calling “cut” and restarting.
“Director Li is always like this. I heard she used to direct movies. Now that she’s down on her luck, she directs commercials, but she still holds artists to those old standards. It’s a miracle Xia Shinan hasn’t lost her temper.”
“Yeah… but why do I feel like Xia Shinan seems distracted today? Like she has a lot on her mind.”
Tao Yi listened to the crew’s discussion and was also perplexed. Although the director’s demands were high, Sister Shinan’s professional level was more than enough for commercial shooting, yet she definitely seemed off. This wasn’t her usual work state.
She thought of the phone in her pocket. Was she waiting for someone’s call?
“Cut! Take a break,” the director said expressionlessly, casually picking up the coffee nearby, radiating an aura that warned people not to bother her.
Xia Shinan walked towards Tao Yi, retrieved her phone, and felt her heart sink further when she saw there were still no incoming calls.
She thought for a long time, then finally walked toward the director.
Rushing out of the filming studio, Xia Shinan held her phone, canceled the flight to Haicheng she had booked for the day after tomorrow, and bought the earliest available flight. At the same time, she anxiously hailed a taxi for the airport.
“Sister Shinan, are you leaving now?” Tao Yi looked confused, watching Xia Shinan say something to the director, then change clothes in the dressing room, while the director waved her hand, ending everyone’s work for the day.
The crew members were talking amongst themselves. Xia Shinan bowed and apologized to everyone. “Something came up at home. I have to leave immediately. I’m truly sorry. I will cover the cost of today’s shoot for everyone.”
Then, she hastily left with her belongings. Tao Yi didn’t understand what happened but subconsciously followed her into the car.
“Tang Yin is missing. I need to find her.” Xia Shinan’s explanation was simple. She anxiously took out her phone. There was still no news, and even Zou Yue couldn’t be reached.
Her heart pounded fast. This suffocating, unknown fear reminded her of that night five years ago, waiting for Tang Yin at the amusement park.
She pressed her hand to her chest, took a deep breath, and called Ming Jing.
The reason she couldn’t continue filming was a terrifying thought that flashed in her mind: She worried Tang Yin had been taken by Xia Tong.
She had a car accident last time; what would happen this time?
“Sister Shinan, please don’t scare me.” Tao Yi noticed Xia Shinan’s face getting paler and quickly found some hot water to warm her hands. “CEO Tang might just be temporarily unreachable. Don’t worry too much. She won’t let anything happen to herself!”
“Mhm…” Xia Shinan bit her lip and slowly responded, silently telling herself the same thing: It’s fine. Tang Yin will be fine.
Upon reaching the airport, Xia Shinan quickly instructed Tao Yi and boarded the plane just in time for the last call.
What should have been a journey of less than two hours felt agonizingly long. After landing, Xia Shinan was about to call Ming Jing when the other party called her immediately. Xia Shinan quickly answered and asked, “How is it? Did you find her?”
Ming Jing sighed. “Yes, we found her.”
Xia Shinan breathed a sigh of relief and stopped where she was. “That’s wonderful! Where are you? I’m…”
“Shinan, Tang Yin went to find you,” Ming Jing interrupted her.
Ming Jing had checked the hospital surveillance and finally saw Zou Yue pushing Tang Yin out of a side door. They got into a car, heading toward the airport.
“I checked the flights to Yuncheng. She should have arrived in Yuncheng by now,” Ming Jing sighed. “Tang Yin is usually rational and easy to talk to, but when it comes to you, she becomes stubborn and difficult. She knew I would absolutely forbid her to go look for you at a time like this, so she contacted Zou Yue.”
“Zou Yue should be accompanying her. They probably landed half an hour ago. If you can, go intercept her at the airport!”
After Ming Jing spoke, she didn’t hear a response from Xia Shinan for a while. Just as she was wondering, she heard the sound of the airport announcement through the phone.
“Are you at the airport? That’s great…”
Xia Shinan sighed. “I’m at the Yuncheng airport.”
Ming Jing was stunned, then forced a laugh. How could this not be described as a mutual rush? She always called Tang Yin love-crazy, but wasn’t Xia Shinan the same?
“So, are you returning to Haicheng, or are you having Tang Yin come back?”
Xia Shinan wiped the slight sweat from her forehead. Her heart hadn’t been calm all afternoon. Knowing Tang Yin was safe, but learning she had gone to Yuncheng, her heart, which had briefly settled, soared with anxiety again.
She was angry—angry at Tang Yin for being disobedient and not staying put, for not waiting for her to come to Haicheng. But she was more angry at herself. She could have refused to shoot the wedding photos, or she could have clearly talked to Tang Yin at the hospital, but she hadn’t.
At that time, she was fighting with herself, trying to stop thinking about Tang Yin and not let Tang Yin interfere with normal work. She kept telling herself: It’s just a wedding dress. I’ll probably wear it countless times in future acting roles. Should I refuse every time because of Tang Yin?
“Shinan? What do you say?” Ming Jing asked again.
“Sister Ming, I’ll go find her,” Xia Shinan turned back into the airport to buy a ticket.
“Okay. When I manage to contact Zou Yue, I’ll text you Tang Yin’s location.” Hearing this, Ming Jing knew that Xia Shinan truly couldn’t let go of Tang Yin. She sighed deeply. “Shinan, when you see her, maybe slap her twice, and then… don’t provoke her further.”
Xia Shinan finally laughed at her words.
Flying back and forth twice, the exhaustion was evident on Xia Shinan’s face, yet she couldn’t sleep. She was seriously contemplating many things.
For example, the note the nurse mentioned: Lover.
A simple English word, but it accurately struck Xia Shinan’s heart and pulled her back to past memories.
In that rented apartment, late at night, the two of them nestled together, kissing on the sofa. The phone had dropped to the floor, and the song playing was none other than “Lover.”
Tang Yin still remembered, and she had never forgotten either.
Back in Yuncheng, Xia Shinan got into a taxi, reading the message from Ming Jing.
“They are indeed in Yuncheng. They’ve checked into Lihao Hotel, room number 8888.”
Xia Shinan paused for two seconds, then told the driver a different address.
After about a thirty-minute drive, Xia Shinan got out of the car. It was nearly 10 PM. The residential area was quiet, with only a few people jogging or walking their dogs. The cool night breeze helped to clear some of her fatigue, and she quickened her pace.
She entered the apartment building elevator and pressed the number button, her gaze fixed on the digital display until it stopped smoothly at her floor. The elevator door opened. She took a deep breath and stepped out, turning right.
After three steps, Xia Shinan stopped.
Sure enough, there was a woman sitting in a wheelchair right outside her door.
Her hair was draped over her shoulders, some flyaways defying gravity. Her lips were cracked and pale, and her complexion wasn’t much better. Hearing the footsteps, she looked up with a pair of dark eyes, like a still pool, then slowly a spark of light ignited, and a smile spread across her lips, utterly clear.
Like a loyal dog that had accidentally wandered off, it had finally found its way home alone and waited for its owner.
Xia Shinan pursed her lips, a torrent of emotions surging through her heart. Her eyes suddenly felt warm, and her breathing quickened, her chest rising and falling.
She knew it. Tang Yin would look for her as soon as she got off the plane. She would definitely be waiting right outside her door.
If she didn’t appear today, Tang Yin would wait until tomorrow.
If she didn’t appear tomorrow, Tang Yin would keep waiting until the day Xia Shinan returned.
