- After the Breakup, My Ex-Boyfriend’s "White Moonlight" Became Obsessed With Me
- Chapter 5 - First Meeting
The cursing from Xue Yuanzhou did not stop until they had left Linfeng Court and gotten into the car. “Fuck! Why did you leave? Why did you not go in?”
“I am seriously done. Did you see those two? They had the words ‘adulterous couple’ written all over their faces!”
He Ran corrected him: “That is actually four words.”
“Fuck! Does that matter? What matters is that you actually left! You made yourself look like a third party. God knows what they were doing in there! Damn! I am seriously done!”
As he spoke, he slammed the steering wheel hard, his face full of frustration at He Ran’s lack of resolve. He Ran gave a bitter smile and leaned back into his seat. He said helplessly, “Yuanzhou.”
Xue Yuanzhou’s tone was sharp: “What?” “Do not speak. Let me have some peace.” “…”
It was not that He Ran did not want to find out the truth, but in that situation, he likely would not have gotten any answers anyway. Ultimately, this was a matter between him and Ji Yang; it should not involve others. However, he was certain of one thing: Ji Yang was definitely hiding something from him, and the relationship between Ji Yang and Yin Zheng was likely not that simple.
Just then, Xue Yuanzhou’s phone rang. He glanced at the screen and suddenly flinched. “Fuck!”
He Ran was startled. “What happened?” Xue Yuanzhou had a mournful look on his face. “It is my mom calling.”
He Ran finally remembered that he had come here today to accompany Xue Yuanzhou on a blind date. By dragging him away like that, they had essentially stood up Miss Su! He became anxious as well and urged, “Hurry up and answer it!”
Xue Yuanzhou’s hand shook as he put on his wireless earphones and forced a smile. “Mom?”
“Xiaozhou! Where are you?” Xue Yuanzhou said, “I am outside right now.”
“Miaomiao just called me and said she did not see you at Linfeng Court. She sent you messages, but you did not reply. What is going on?”
Xue Yuanzhou’s mother was from Suzhou. She spoke gently and softly, with the characteristic “Wu” dialect lilt of the locals. Despite her gentle tone, Xue Yuanzhou broke into a cold sweat.
“I am sorry, Mom. Just now, something came up, so I had to leave. I did not have time to tell Miss Su. I will apologize to her later.”
“Is that so? Then you must explain it properly to Miaomiao, do you understand?” “I will.”
“But you cannot do this next time; it is very impolite. Schedule another time and take her out for a meal. Miaomiao is a nice person; try to spend more time with her.”
“Okay, I understand, Mom.”
After hanging up, Xue Yuanzhou irritably tossed the earphones aside. His lips were pressed thin as he stared straight ahead without saying a word.
He Ran sighed. “Do we count as brothers in misery?” Xue Yuanzhou smiled bitterly. “You are better off than I am; at least you are free.”
Neither of them was in the mood to go drinking anymore. They found a random place to eat and then went home. So much had happened today that He Ran needed to be alone for a while. By the time he reached home, it was already getting dark. A few friends called to invite him out, but he declined them all. Only now did he feel a deep sense of exhaustion. His mind was a mess, and he could not help but recall when he first met Ji Yang.

He Ran took his suitcase from the man beside him and said, “You should head back. I can go in by myself.”
The man wore a well-tailored black suit and had his hair slicked back. He was tall with rugged features. “Are you sure you can manage? How about I help you carry it up?” the man asked worriedly.
He Ran was speechless. “Brother, I am nineteen, not three. I can carry this much. Do you not have a meeting later? Go back now.”
He Xuan finally let go and instructed, “Get along well with your classmates. Do not get into fights. If anything happens, call me, okay?”
“Oh, my goodness! I know! I know! You have said it so many times; I am not deaf.” He Xuan flicked his forehead with his index finger. “Knowing is not enough; you have to take it to heart.” “Fine, fine! Just go! Assistant Wu is going to start nagging you!”
After seeing off his talkative older brother, He Ran breathed a long sigh of relief and pulled out his phone to call Chu Shenxing. “Have you arrived?”
On the other end, Chu Shenxing said, “Not yet! The traffic is terrible right now. Are you there?” “Yes, I just arrived. I am about to go through the housing procedures.”
Chu Shenxing was surprised. “You are living on campus? Did your brother not buy you an apartment right next to the school? What? You do not plan to live off-campus?”
He Ran spoke as he walked: “You are not living with me, so it would be pretty boring by myself.” Chu Shenxing did not know whether to laugh or cry. “Do not act so gay with me. If my girlfriend hears, she might misunderstand.”
He Ran laughed and cursed, “You dog, choosing romance over friendship. As soon as you see a woman, you do not even want your brother. You deserve to always get dumped!”
“Fuck! You just wait! I am coming over tonight to have my way with you!” “Fine! Let us see who has their way with whom. It is time for you to experience the joy that only belongs to men!” “You little virgin, you have the nerve to say that?” “Who are you calling a virgin?” “I am calling you one!” “You idiot, just you wait…”
“Excuse me, classmate.”
He Ran was in the middle of a verbal battle with his best friend when a cold, clear voice came from behind him. He instinctively turned around.
Standing not far behind him was a tall man. He was wearing simple trousers and a white T-shirt. He was tall with long legs, a fair complexion, and handsome features. The large plane trees shaded them both. The mottled shadows cast by the sunlight through the leaves fell entirely over the man. As a breeze blew and the leaves rustled, it seemed as if the man was glowing.
He Ran was dazed for a moment. The voice on the phone seemed to drift away, and his surroundings gradually blurred. Everything within his sight was that man. He did not know how much time had passed; it could have been a few minutes or just a split second. He Ran snapped out of it and instinctively flashed a smile. “Are you calling me?”
He was naturally good-looking. He was handsome enough when not smiling, but now that he smiled, the man opposite him felt a bit dazzled. The man paused, then stepped forward. “Yes. You are a freshman, right?”
Seeing He Ran nod, he pointed to the red armband on his sleeve and said, “I am a junior volunteer responsible for receiving freshmen. Do you need any help?”
The person on the other end of the phone was still rambling, but He Ran no longer had time for him. He hurriedly hung up and said to the man, “Hello, Senior! Um, I am trying to go through the housing procedures, but for some reason,” he looked around, “it seems like I have wandered off course.”
The man let out a small smile. “You are walking in the opposite direction.”
“Ah!” He Ran scratched his head awkwardly. “Is that so? I guess I was too busy on the phone and did not pay attention.” “Follow me.”
The man did not say much else and turned toward another path. He Ran quickly followed and said with a smile, “Thank you, Senior!”
The man said, “You do not need to call me Senior. My name is Ji Yang. Yang as in the vast waters surrounding the pavilion base. You can just call me by my name.”
He Ran took the opportunity and said, “Ji Yang, my name is He Ran. Ran as in burning.”
