- After the Breakup, My Ex-Boyfriend’s "White Moonlight" Became Obsessed With Me
- Chapter 4 - Why Are You Here?
Two men entered through the door. One was slender and handsome, dressed with great care. He was clearly a successful professional.
However, the person beside him was even more striking. That man wore a simple combination of black trousers and a white shirt. He was exceptionally tall, appearing to be about 187 centimeters, with broad shoulders and long legs. Through the thin white fabric of his shirt, one could catch a glimpse of his firm chest muscles.
Most stunning of all, however, were his face and his smooth, shoulder-length hair. Like jade carved into a stone, like a verdant pine standing tall. Radiant, elegant, and peerless; truly one of a kind. The moment He Ran saw him, those lines of poetry flashed through his mind.
However, he only dazed for a second before his gaze shifted back to the man beside the stranger. He gritted his teeth and spat out two words, “Ji Yang!”
Xue Yuanzhou looked at him with concern. “Ran Ge? Are you okay?”
He Ran let out a cold laugh and shook his head. “What could possibly be wrong with me?”
“Should we go over?”
He Ran paused for a moment. “Wait a bit.”
If this had been any other time, he would have rushed over to confront him. Did you not say you were going on a business trip? Why are you here with another man? He had already remembered who the long-haired man was.
Yin Zheng.
He was Ji Yang’s childhood friend and their university classmate. He Ran also recalled what Chu Shenxing had said. An ex-boyfriend? He immediately shook his head. That was impossible. Ji Yang had told him they were never together. There was no reason to lie about such a thing; he had no motive or necessity to deceive him.
But what was happening now? Even from a distance, he could clearly see the expression on Ji Yang’s face and the bright look in his eyes as he gazed at the man beside him. It was an expression Ji Yang never wore when looking at him, and it forced him to realize a harsh truth. Perhaps Ji Yang had never loved him.
By now, the pair had been led into a private booth by the host. When the door closed, the audible click seemed to echo inside He Ran’s heart. His chest tightened slightly. It was not a sharp pain, but it was certainly uncomfortable.
“Quick! Let us go take a look!” Xue Yuanzhou grabbed He Ran’s hand, ready to move.
He Ran asked, “Are you not waiting for Miss Su anymore?”
Xue Yuanzhou spoke with exasperation, “Why are you still worried about Miss Su at a time like this? If you do not go over there now, the hat on your head is going to turn green.”
He Ran looked at him with suspicion. “Why do I feel like you are actually happy about this?”
Xue Yuanzhou froze. Was it that obvious? He wondered. Out loud, however, he said, “Which eye do you see happiness in? I am angry! I am angry on your behalf!”
“Is that so?”
“Of course!”
He Ran was in no mood to argue. He stood up and followed him toward the private booth. Xue Yuanzhou lightened his footsteps and pressed his ear against the door, looking quite suspicious. Fortunately, the booth was located at a corner, so no one noticed their strange behavior.
He Ran tapped Xue Yuanzhou on the shoulder. Once the latter turned around, He Ran said, “There is no need for this.”
Before Xue Yuanzhou could ask what he meant, He Ran raised his hand and knocked lightly on the door. He gave two firm knocks. Xue Yuanzhou’s eyes widened, and he could not help but give He Ran a thumbs-up.
The door opened faster than expected. Even though He Ran had prepared himself, he still instinctively held his breath. He then locked eyes with Ji Yang. He saw Ji Yang’s pale face turn even whiter upon realizing it was him. His clear eyes widened. Shock, panic, and helplessness flashed through his expression. He Ran actually found the humor to smile slightly as he said softly, “It really is you.”
“He, He Ran? Why are you here?”
He Ran looked at him with a mix of amusement and bitterness. “Should I not be the one asking you that? Were you not supposed to be on a business trip today? Why are you here?”
Ji Yang forced himself to stay calm and managed a weak smile. “The company schedule changed. I did not have time to tell you yet.”
“Is that so?” He Ran’s smile turned cold. “You did not have time all day?”
At that moment, a pleasant, melodic voice came from inside the room. “Yang-yang, what is wrong?”
Yang-yang? Calling him so intimately? Even He Ran had only ever called him that while they were in bed. Back then, whenever he called him Yang-yang, Ji Yang would become very sensitive. Now, hearing this nickname, one that should only appear during intimacy, used so naturally by another man gave him the absurd sensation that his heart had stopped beating.
Ji Yang’s face was as white as paper. His fingers gripped the doorframe so hard they turned blue. He said urgently, “Please go back for now, alright? I will explain everything when I get home.”
“You want me to go back?” He Ran was almost driven to laughter by his anger. “What? Is the man inside someone I am not allowed to see? Ji Yang, I am your boyfriend, not your dog!”
“He Ran!”
Ji Yang shouted, seemingly triggered by something He Ran said. He Ran paused, looking at him with surprise, not understanding why his reaction was so intense. Xue Yuanzhou’s gaze shifted between the two. He pursed his lips and said nothing, though his grip on He Ran’s arm tightened.
The person inside must have sensed something, as the sound of approaching footsteps grew louder.
“Go, quickly!” Ji Yang said again, his voice frantic, as if he were afraid of something.
He Ran felt suspicious. Just as he was about to ask more, a surprised male voice rang in his ears. “He Ran?”
He Ran looked up and met a pair of beautiful peach-blossom eyes. The owner of those eyes flashed a pleasant smile. “It really is you! It has been a long time. Do you still remember me?”
He Ran smiled back, though the warmth did not reach his eyes. “Of course I recognize you. Long time no see, Yin Zheng.” Then, pretending he did not know, He Ran asked, “I remember you went to the United States. When did you return?”
Yin Zheng seemed very happy. “I just returned recently. I did not expect you to remember me. I almost did not recognize you just now. You have changed quite a bit.”
He Ran replied, “Is that so? I do not feel that way, but your change is certainly greater. I remember you had short hair in university?”
Yin Zheng smiled and lifted a lock of his long hair, casually twining it around his fingertips. “I did not have time to take care of it while I was abroad, so I just let it grow. I got used to it over time. How is it? Does it look good?”
He Ran hesitated. He had not expected such a question. He offered a perfunctory reply, “It looks good. It suits you.”
“Is that so? Yang-yang said the same thing.” As he spoke, Yin Zheng turned to look at Ji Yang. Only then did he notice that Ji Yang looked unwell. He asked with concern, “Yang-yang? What is wrong? Are you uncomfortable?”
Ji Yang managed a strained smile. “I am fine. It is just a bit hot.”
“I see.” Yin Zheng nodded and then looked at He Ran and his companion. “Have you two eaten? Would you like to come in and join us?”
He Ran had originally intended to confront this man and see how Ji Yang would explain himself. But seeing Ji Yang looking so devastated and fragile, his heart felt conflicted, and he lost the motivation he had when he arrived.
He waved his hand. “No need. We have already eaten.” He then looked at Ji Yang. “Yin Zheng has just returned from abroad, so I am sure you have much to discuss. We will not disturb you. Whatever it is, we will talk when you get home tonight.”
With that, he pulled the grimacing Xue Yuanzhou away.
Yin Zheng watched them until they were out of sight before turning to look at Ji Yang. “Why are you so frightened? Are you afraid of him? Or are you afraid of me?”
“No, I am not.”
Yin Zheng turned and went back into the room. Ji Yang hesitated for a moment before following him, and the door closed with a sharp thud.
