- After the Breakup, My Ex-Boyfriend’s "White Moonlight" Became Obsessed With Me
- Chapter 2 - It Turns Out I’m the One with the Love Brain
He had barely sat down when his phone started chiming incessantly. He Ran opened WeChat and saw that the pinned group chat, “Partners in Crime,” already had dozens of new messages.
Xue Yuanzhou: [@·Ran-ge, are you there?] Xue Yuanzhou: [@·Ran-ge, Ran-ge?] Xue Yuanzhou: [@·Ran-ge, HELP!]
Zhao Xiaotang (In Canada, getting ready for bed): “…” Zhao Xiaotang: [@From Afar, quit wailing like a banshee! What the hell is wrong with you in the middle of the night?] Xue Yuanzhou: [Emergency! I need my Ran-ge! Waaaah!] Zhao Xiaotang: [What is it? Speak up so I can give you some advice.] Xue Yuanzhou: [My mom is forcing me to go on a blind date again. Heavens! I’m only in my twenties; I don’t want to get married!!!] Zhao Xiaotang: [Looking for Ran-ge is useless for this. He can’t exactly go on the date for you.] He Ran: [Congratulations!] Xue Yuanzhou: [Aaaargh! He! Are you still my brother or not!!!] He Ran: [No.] Xue Yuanzhou: [I do not care. Do not leave after work; I am coming to find you! You have to help me with this!] Zhao Xiaotang: [How exactly do you plan on having him help you?] Xue Yuanzhou: [It is settled then. Signing off.] Zhao Xiaotang: [@. How do you plan on helping him?] He Ran: [Who said I was going to help him?] Zhao Xiaotang: “…”
He Ran exited the chat box and scrolled down to open his thread with Ji Yang. The last message was still the one he had sent this morning:
“Did you arrive?”
Unfortunately, there still had not been a reply. He frustratedly tossed his phone onto the desk and leaned back into his leather chair, lost in thought.
Sometimes, he truly could not understand what Ji Yang was thinking. He clearly was not completely indifferent toward others, so why did he always put on such a cold face whenever he was around He Ran?
Does he even love me?
The question surfaced in his mind again, only to be immediately dismissed. If he did not love him, why would he have agreed to be with him in the beginning? Why was he so submissive in bed, letting He Ran have his way with him entirely? Could someone really go that far without loving the other person?
He Ran did not know. Though he had been in a few relationships, they had all started and ended abruptly. The furthest he had ever gone was a few kisses. In all his years, he had only ever loved Ji Yang. He did not know how other people interacted in relationships; he just had a vague feeling that their situation was not normal.
After a moment’s thought, he opened WeChat, found one of his friends, and started tapping away.
He Ran: [Can I ask you a question?] Chu Shenxing: [What is up?] He Ran: [How do you and your girlfriend usually get along?] Chu Shenxing: “…” He Ran: [??????]
On the other end, Chu Shenxing took a deep breath, his fingers flying across the keyboard.
Chu Shenxing: [I broke up just last week! I even treated you guys to drinks at Chronic. Do not tell me you forgot!]
He Ran paused, finally remembering. He replied insincerely: [Sorry! That was a typo. How did you and your ex-girlfriend usually get along?]
Chu Shenxing: “…” Chu Shenxing: [Are you fighting with your special someone again?]
Startled, He Ran instinctively replied: [How did you know?]
Chu Shenxing gave a scoffing laugh and called him directly. The moment the call connected, he said, “Your head is filled with nothing but drinking and work, and the rest is all about that guy. It is hard not to know. So, tell me, what happened this time?”
He Ran was a bit displeased. “What do you mean ‘what happened this time’? We are doing great.”
“Fine, if you want to live in denial, I will not stop you,” Chu Shenxing said. “But as your brother, I am warning you: do not end up getting sold and still helping the person count the money.”
“What is that supposed to mean?” He Ran asked. “Do you know? Yin Zheng is back.” He Ran was confused. “Who is Yin Zheng? That sounds familiar.” “…”
Chu Shenxing was nearly knocked back by frustration. He could not help but roar, “I am done with you! You absolute idiot!”
His office was completely soundproofed, yet the employees outside still jumped at the roar, instinctively looking toward the floor-to-ceiling windows. Chu Shenxing stood up, walked to the window, and yanked the blinds shut, blocking the prying eyes from outside.
He Ran was also angry. He barked back, “Can you speak properly? How should I know who Yin Zheng is?”
Chu Shenxing sat back down. “Have you remembered now?” “What does him coming back have to do with me?” He Ran asked, puzzled. Chu Shenxing was shocked. “Nothing to do with you? You did not know he is Ji Yang’s ex-boyfriend?”
He Ran’s brow furrowed. “Ji Yang said they never dated; they were just friends.”
Chu Shenxing sneered. “You certainly are a believer. But as far as I know, Ji Yang’s parents died early, and he was fostered in the Yin household since his teens. They were together from middle school through university; they were practically inseparable. If you want to believe there was nothing there, be my guest, but I do not buy it.”
He Ran disagreed. “By that logic, you, me, Yuanzhou, and Xiaotang are the same way. Does that mean there is something between us?”
“Xiaotang and I do not like men. As for Yuanzhou…” “What about Yuanzhou?” Chu Shenxing rubbed his temples. “Forget it. Just pay attention. Do not come crying to me when the time comes.”
He Ran stared at the hung-up phone, his eyebrows knitting into a deep frown.
Speak of the devil. Not long after hanging up, there was a knock on his office door. Before he could speak, the door was pushed open from the outside.
“Ran-ge! I am here!”
He Ran glanced at him, his hands not stopping his work. “What are you doing here?”
The newcomer was tall with long legs, sword-like eyebrows, and bright eyes. He had a handsome set of features. He wore a red diamond stud in his left ear, and his spiky crew cut was dyed silver-gray. He wore a designer oversized shirt, black jeans, and a pair of very expensive sneakers. A person like this would have a one-hundred-percent turn-around rate on the street.
The man walked straight to the desk and hopped onto it, propping himself up with his hands. “I came to hang out!”
With his light blocked, He Ran shoved him irritably. “Get down!”
Xue Yuanzhou did not get down; he just shifted his rear to the side. “When do you get off work?”
Seeing he was no longer blocking the light, He Ran ignored him and continued his work. “Once I finish signing these.”
Xue Yuanzhou leaned over to look. “Cannot you just leave this stuff to your assistant? Why do you have to sign them yourself?”
“He cannot make the call on these,” He Ran said as he signed his name on the final document. With a slap, he closed the folder and placed it on top of a tall stack nearby. Leaning back, he looked at Xue Yuanzhou and said, “Let us get this straight: I am not getting involved in your blind date situation.”
Xue Yuanzhou’s eyes widened. He leaned forward in grief and indignation. “Why? We already agreed!”
“Hey, hey, hey,” He Ran interrupted. “I never agreed.” “I do not care! You have to help me!” “I will not help!”
Xue Yuanzhou gritted his teeth, hopped off the table, and scurried over to him. He crouched on the floor, hugging He Ran’s leg and shaking it back and forth while looking pitiful. “Please, Ran-ge? Just help me this one last time, okay? Pretty please?”
He Ran’s body swayed like a bobblehead, but his expression remained unmoved. “That is what you said last time.”
Xue Yuanzhou paused, then began acting spoiled. “This time it is for real! It is definitely the last time! My good Ran-ge, for the sake of us growing up together, just help me out! Ran-ge! He Ran-ge!”
“Get lost!” He Ran was thoroughly grossed out, his skin crawling with goosebumps. “Get up right now.” “If you do not agree, I am not getting up!” “You…”
“President He, there is an urgent document that needs your signature.” The voice of his secretary, Li Lan, slowly trailed off. She stood there wide-eyed, staring at them. It took a moment before she stammered in a panic, “I am so sorry, President He! I will come back later!”
With that, she shut the door with lightning speed. He Ran did not react at first, but once he snapped out of it, he realized how suggestive their posture looked to an outsider.
“Come back!”
But it was too late; she had already vanished without a trace. His sterling reputation was ruined! He glared through gritted teeth at the person still kneeling on the floor and said, syllable by syllable: “GET. UP. NOW!”
