- After the Breakup, My Ex-Boyfriend’s "White Moonlight" Became Obsessed With Me
- Chapter 18 - Your Brain Is Sick
Yin Zheng thought about it and actually nodded. “Hmm, phrased that way, it seems you are not wrong.”
He Ran gave a cold laugh. “Then let me congratulate you. He and I have already broken up, and there is no longer any possibility between us. Are you satisfied?”
Yin Zheng became visibly pleased. “Satisfied, very satisfied.”
“Then you can get lost!”
He Ran did not expect a person could be so shameless. He thought he had already endured enough frustration from Ji Yang today, but he never expected to be angered once more at the very end of the night. Not wanting to look at that punchable face any longer, he turned around and opened his car door to leave.
“Hey!”
Seeing that he was truly angry, Yin Zheng quickly blocked the car door and coaxed, “I was only joking with you.”
He Ran sneered. “I do not believe Director Yin and I are quite that close yet. Move!”
Yin Zheng did not let go. “Everything I said at the banquet was true. I have never liked Ji Yang, as I am sure he has already told you.”
He Ran knit his brows in annoyance. “Since you do not like him, then what was the point of those words? It cannot be that simply because you are a single dog yourself, you cannot stand to see others in pairs?”
The corners of Yin Zheng’s mouth curled up as he nodded in agreement. “Hmm, something like that.”
He Ran said, “If your brain is sick, go get it treated.”
Yin Zheng met his gaze for a moment and suddenly burst out laughing. The laughter was low and pleasant, carrying obvious delight.
He Ran felt completely baffled. “What are you laughing at?”
Yin Zheng slowly stopped laughing and sighed with a touch of helplessness and indulgence. “He Ran, oh He Ran, you really are stupid.”
It was clearly an insult, but when spoken in that tone, it carried a hint of ambiguous tenderness. He Ran should have been angry, but he surprisingly found himself unable to flare up. Instead, the tips of his ears felt strangely warm.
Finally, he squeezed out a few words through gritted teeth: “Do not go too far!”
“Alright, alright, let us not talk about this anymore,” Yin Zheng said. “It is almost dawn. When do you plan on going back?”
He Ran replied, “If it were not for you, I would probably be home by now.”
“Is that so?” Yin Zheng did not believe him and teased, “If I had not called you, you might not even be in Jinghai City by the time the sun comes up.”
Only then did He Ran take a moment to observe his surroundings. He saw empty fields and a narrow road. As far as the eye could see, there were only lonely streetlights on both sides of the asphalt road leading to who knows where.
He Ran was speechless. After a long silence, he wiped his face and said seriously, “This matter is over. You are not allowed to mention it again!”
Yin Zheng arched an eyebrow and reached out to help him open the car door. “Fine. I will see you back.”
“I do not need the favor!”
Yin Zheng smiled and simply said, “Drive safely. Do not think about the past anymore.”
He Ran closed the door, dropped a line saying, “I do not need you to remind me,” and stepped on the gas. The car sped away like an arrow from a bow.
Yin Zheng shook his head with a light laugh and got into his own car, following at a distance that was neither too close nor too far. He Ran naturally noticed this and felt greatly displeased. Did this man take him for a child? Did he think He Ran would get lost?
No matter how fast or slow he drove, that black sedan followed behind him like a ghost. He Ran finally gave up and stopped competing, returning to a normal speed. He thought to himself that a free bodyguard was a benefit he might as well take.
Half an hour later, the car drove into Jiangxin Villa. Through the rearview mirror, He Ran saw the black sedan stop. After a moment, it turned around and left. He Ran breathed a sigh of relief. For a moment, he did not know how to feel, and he could not figure out what was on that man’s mind.
There was actually no deep enmity between him and Yin Zheng. Thinking back to those few meetings during their two years of university, Yin Zheng’s attitude toward him could be described as kind. It was actually He Ran who, because of Ji Yang, had been quite hostile in every meeting after their first encounter. Thinking about it now, it was indeed childish.
Ji Yang had said today that Yin Zheng used to have an eccentric personality, a statement He Ran thoroughly agreed with. Although the man appeared gentle and easy to talk to, a closer look revealed a stubbornness hidden beneath the surface. In their recent interactions, it seemed like He Ran had the upper hand, but in reality, he was constantly being led by the nose by Yin Zheng.
“Tch!”
He Ran was extremely frustrated. He decided not to think about it anymore. After parking his car, he took the elevator upstairs. He Ran opened the door, turned on the light, changed his shoes, and walked inside.
“Holy shit!”
Just as he turned the corner from the entrance, He Ran was startled. A person was lying all tangled up on the living room sofa. Looking closely, it was actually Xue Yuanzhou!
He Ran breathed a sigh of relief. He pulled off his tie, walked over, and kicked the calf that was hanging off the rug. “Hey!”
Xue Yuanzhou sat up abruptly. Before even opening his eyes, he began to mutter, “What are you doing?” Realizing where he was, he snapped his eyes open and said with surprise, “You are back!”
“No kidding. Why are you in my house?” He Ran sat down, leaning against the sofa, and unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt.
Xue Yuanzhou turned to face him and said, “I called you and you did not answer. I was worried something happened. So, after I dropped He Yan off, I did not leave. Where did you go? Why are you back so late?” As he spoke, he inconspicuously scanned He Ran from head to toe. Seeing that his clothes were intact and nothing was amiss, he felt slightly relieved.
Only then did He Ran remember the matter with He Yan. He checked the time on his wrist. It was 04:35. It was already this late! Fortunately, tomorrow was Sunday and there was no work. He pinched the bridge of his nose, finally feeling a wave of deep exhaustion. He sighed. “Some troublesome business. It has all been cleared up.”
Xue Yuanzhou likely guessed what it was and did not ask further. He stood up and said, “As long as you are fine. I will head out then.”
“Hey!” He Ran grabbed his arm. “It is too late to be moving around. Just make do and sleep here.”
These words were exactly what Xue Yuanzhou wanted. He was secretly delighted but kept a calm face as he lay back down. “Fine, then I will sleep here today.”
He Ran frowned. Although his sofa was soft, comfortable, and expensive, it would not be very comfortable for a man with long arms and legs. He Ran’s apartment was a large flat with a floor area that was not particularly huge, only a bit over two hundred square meters. When it was designed, considering that Ji Yang liked peace and quiet, he had converted the other rooms into a gym and a media room. Only two bedrooms remained: one for themselves and one for emergencies.
“Go sleep in my room,” He Ran said as he stood up and began taking off his jacket. “Do not argue! I am exhausted.”
Xue Yuanzhou finally reacted with both surprise and joy. He quickly responded, “You got it!” As if afraid He Ran would change his mind, he hurriedly followed him like a loyal puppy.
