- After the Breakup, My Ex-Boyfriend’s "White Moonlight" Became Obsessed With Me
- Chapter 19 - So Pathetic
Once he entered the bedroom, He Ran happened to come out of the walk-in closet. He tossed the clothes in his hand to Xue Yuanzhou. “The underwear is new. You can wear my pajamas.”
After saying that, he headed to the bathroom. A moment later, the sound of splashing water echoed from inside.
Xue Yuanzhou caught the clothes and said with a smile, “Then I will go wash up outside!”
He Ran likely did not hear him, but Xue Yuanzhou did not mind. He walked out happily carrying the clothes. He felt that today was truly his lucky day; everything good was coming his way, and he even hummed a song while showering.
When He Ran finished his shower and came out, he did not see anyone, but he did not think much of it. He rubbed his hair carelessly with a towel, turned off the main light, and climbed into bed. He was truly exhausted and sleepy today; his body was tired, and his mind was even more so.
The moment he lay down, he could not help but let out a comfortable groan. His eyes narrowed as he completely relaxed. Instantly, sleepiness hit him like an overwhelming wave. His eyelids felt as heavy as lead and closed uncontrollably. In less than two minutes, he fell into a deep sleep, not even noticing when Xue Yuanzhou entered the room.
Xue Yuanzhou walked in while drying his hair. Seeing that He Ran was already asleep, he instinctively softened his footsteps. He stood still for a moment before slowly stepping forward. He stopped by the bedside and looked down at him closely. The man’s eyes were tightly shut, his long lashes were lowered, and his breathing was steady and slow. His well-defined hands were fair and slender, resting casually on his lower abdomen. His chest, wrapped in silk pajamas, rose and fell slightly. It was clear he was truly fast asleep.
Xue Yuanzhou lifted the quilt gently and lay down facing him, staring at him in a daze. It was not as if he had never slept beside He Ran before, but back then, his thoughts had been pure and he had never considered anything else. When did things begin to change? It seemed to have started when he learned that He Ran and Ji Yang were dating.
He Ran used to like girls, and everyone he dated was female. Upon hearing he was with a guy, Xue Yuanzhou was shocked and felt a sense of melancholy. He did not understand it then, but by the time he did, it was too late. Now that they had broken up, Xue Yuanzhou was undoubtedly the happiest person. Even though he knew in his heart that even after the breakup, the possibility of He Ran being with him was slim, he could not help but hope. What if? What if He Ran finally turned around and saw him?
Thinking this, Xue Yuanzhou could not help but move a little closer, then closer still, until their arms were touching. His heart pounded violently, and he unconsciously swallowed. After a moment of hesitation, he leaned forward and pressed a light, slow kiss onto He Ran’s lips. At the moment of contact, Xue Yuanzhou’s heart felt as if it would explode. The sound was deafening, so loud that he feared it would wake He Ran.
After a while, Xue Yuanzhou pulled back slightly. He curled his body and rested his head against He Ran’s shoulder, closing his eyes to calm his racing emotions. He could not help but give a bitter smile.
So pathetic.
On the other side, Yin Zheng received a call from abroad. He put on his bathrobe and sat on the balcony. His long hair was draped naturally behind him. He held a glass of red wine, took a sip, and then answered.
“What is it?”
A deep, low male voice sounded through the receiver. “The old man has been making quite a fuss lately. He is clamoring to see you.”
Yin Zheng’s fingers moved slightly, and the liquid in the wine glass swayed gently. He gazed at the night view outside the window and let out a cold laugh. This was a polite way of putting it. Wanting to see him was a lie; cursing him to a miserable death was likely the truth.
He did not take it to heart and told the man on the other end, “Ignore him. If he keeps acting up, give him a sedative. Also, keep an eye on that woman. Do not let her die too quickly.”
The deep voice acknowledged the order. “Your brother seems to be a bit restless lately. He has been quite close to Alan these past few days. I cannot find out much else for now.”
The swaying glass paused. Yin Zheng lowered his eyes. “Keep a close watch. Tell me if there is any news.”
After hanging up, Yin Zheng drained the wine in his glass and leaned back into his chair with a sigh. After a while, he opened WeChat and tapped on his chat with He Ran. It was empty, with only a single automated system message sitting there. The WeChat account appeared to be a private one; the profile picture was of He Ran himself, a side-view half-body shot. He clicked on the Moments, but there was nothing inside. He did not know if he had been blocked or if He Ran simply never posted anything.
Yin Zheng clicked on the profile picture again and stared at it for a long time. Finally, he turned off his phone, got up, and walked into the bedroom.
He Ran woke up at one in the afternoon. After gathering his thoughts, he rolled over in bed and picked up the phone from the nightstand. His assistant was as sensible as ever and never contacted him on his days off. However, there were several new messages on WeChat.
He Ran’s gaze stopped on an unfamiliar profile picture. After a moment, he remembered who it was.
Yin Zheng.
Since adding each other that day, they had not been in contact. He Ran had almost forgotten there was such a person in his list. There was a small red dot in the upper right corner of the icon with the number 2. They were voice messages, so he had no way of knowing what they were without clicking them. He Ran had obsessive-compulsive tendencies and felt uncomfortable seeing the red dot, so he instinctively tapped it.
By the time he realized what he had done, it was too late. He let out a soft tsk. At this moment, he missed the old version of WeChat; at least it did not have a read function. Just then, another message popped up.
[Awake?] Read [(●’◡’●)] Read
He Ran was speechless. It was no longer appropriate to pretend he had not seen it, so he typed.
[Is something wrong?]
The other side replied instantly. [You did not listen to the voice messages I sent you?]
He Ran looked up and stopped at the two unread voice messages. He noticed they were sent at seven and ten in the morning respectively. A thought popped into his head.
He wakes up this early? Or did he not sleep at all?
He clicked the first one. A pleasant voice sounded, clear, pure, and melodious.
[Good morning! I guess you are still sleeping, so should I add a “good afternoon” as well?]
Even if He Ran disliked Yin Zheng, he had to admit the man had a naturally beautiful voice. He unconsciously rubbed his ear against the pillow and could not resist clicking it to listen again. Only then did he hear the content clearly, and his face darkened.
He clicked the second one.
[Not awake yet? Or are you ignoring me on purpose? I would like to ask when you plan to give me the signature you promised Jiayu?]
He Ran replied stubbornly, [I already have it ready!]
The other side sent a voice message. [That is good. Should I come to find you, or will you come to me? The sooner I get it, the sooner I can finish the task.] [(^_^)]
He Ran typed, [No time today.]
Yin Zheng: [Are you busy?]
He Ran: [Yes.]
Yin Zheng: [With what?]
He Ran: [Moving.]
Yin Zheng: [!!!] [I will help you! Refusal is useless! I know your address! See you in half an hour!]
He Ran was completely speechless.
