- Chapter 6 - Can't Eat the Meat, Gotta Have Some Soup
The cars headed toward the ancestral home. Although Chi Chen and Chi Mingzhou were not in the same vehicle, the two cars followed one another at a steady, leisurely pace.
Chi Chen loosened his grip on Feng Mian’s neck and looked up at the Porsche in front, asking, “How did you offend Little Uncle today?”
Everyone in the private room had noticed that Chi Mingzhou was acting strangely toward Feng Mian. While Chi Mingzhou was unpredictable, he usually knew where to draw the line and rarely humiliated someone like that in public.
Feng Mian kept his head down, his slightly long hair obscuring the emotions in his eyes. He shook his head and hesitated, saying, “…I didn’t.”
Chi Chen was not surprised by this answer; he let out a scoffing laugh, “I’d hope you wouldn’t dare.”
Just by standing there, Chi Mingzhou was a formidable presence; even Chi Chen had to yield to him, let alone someone like Feng Mian. He figured that Chi Mingzhou must just find it distasteful that someone from a low-level household was so shamelessly trying to curry favor with the Chi family, and had decided to teach Feng Mian a lesson. He didn’t think much of it, after all, Feng Mian was at best just a plaything.
He said, “If Little Uncle finds you an eyesore, then stay out of his sight. I’ve already arranged a room for you; try to stay inside during the day. If you offend him, no one can protect you. In the Chi family, he is the backbone. The Feng family wouldn’t care if you lived or died; they might even be thrilled if you died in the Chi family, thinking it would finally give them a chance to make the Chi family owe them a favor.”
While these words were the truth, they were incredibly hurtful.
Feng Mian had no status to speak of in the Feng family he was an eyesore. Being an illegitimate son in a house shared by a family of three, he was unwanted in every sense. Feng Mian lowered his head and remained silent.
Chi Chen sensed his distress but offered no consolation. He looked at Feng Mian and tempted him, “You’d better make sure you keep me happy. That way, there’s someone in the Chi family who can protect you. If there ever comes a day when Little Uncle decides he can’t tolerate you, I might still be able to offer you a way out.”
His gaze lingered on Feng Mian’s waist, the fires of lust burning fiercely in his eyes.
“Let me sleep with you, and from then on, I’ll protect you and dote on you. You won’t have to suffer, living as if you’re on thin ice. If I’m satisfied with you, who knows? I might just agree to the arranged marriage and actually marry you.”
“Sleep with me for one night—you won’t get pregnant, what is there to be so picky about?”
He coaxed him with a seemingly pleasant tone, though he felt a sense of urgency.
Feng Mian clutched his collar tightly, his body trembling with fear, his guard not dropping in the slightest. He looked at him anxiously and whispered, “No…”
Having been rejected repeatedly, Chi Chen felt his pride bruised. He cursed under his breath, “Playing hard to get has its limits. You’d better pray that I stay interested in you. If I find someone better and get tired of you, I’ll toss you back to the Feng family and make you wish you were dead!”
His eyes fixed intently on Feng Mian’s hand clutching his collar, and he said in a low voice, “You’d better not be saving yourself for someone else! If I find out you’re seeing someone behind my back, ten lives wouldn’t be enough for you to pay the price!”
He raised a hand to pinch Feng Mian’s chin, staring intently at his slightly red and swollen lips.
Feng Mian’s lips were full and soft, his complexion fair, and his appearance was truly pleasing. With them so close, the scent of wine lingering at the tip of his nose grew stronger, intoxicating and dizzying.
A surge of heat rose in Chi Chen’s lower abdomen. He stared at those two lips, his eyes dark and terrifying. He hesitated for a moment and was just about to lean in and kiss him when the car suddenly turned off its engine, and the driver’s voice sounded from the front.
“Sir, we’ve arrived at the ancestral home.”
Interrupted just as things were getting good, Chi Chen felt irritated. He was about to finish the kiss anyway when the driver added a reminder: “Little Uncle has already stepped out of the car.”
Chi Chen cursed under his breath, “Damn it!”
He shoved the car door open, his expression grim. He looked back at Feng Mian, who was stepping out behind him, feeling deeply unsatisfied.
