- After the Beautiful Young Master's Arranged Marriage, He Was Targeted by His Ex-Boyfriend
- Chapter 7 - The Illegitimate Son
Chi Mingzhou and Chi Chen entered the house together, neither of them paying the slightest attention to Feng Mian, who was following behind and struggling to walk.
Watching their figures disappear into the doorway, Feng Mian bowed his head silently, enduring the tearing pain in a certain area and trying to keep his gait as steady as any other person’s. He had long since grown accustomed to the life of being treated as a transparent person; whether at the Feng household or the Chi household, he was the most superfluous existence of all.
Step by step, he made his way to the living room, where he saw the entire family gathered.
Chi Mingzhou was engaged in a lively and harmonious conversation with the old patriarch; only the old matriarch and the eldest son, Chi Yunsheng, sat to the side with complex expressions, their eyes revealing visible impatience.
The old patriarch looked at his youngest son who had returned from abroad with a joyful smile. “Don’t leave again this time; stay and manage the family business properly.”
Chi Mingzhou smiled but said nothing.
The old matriarch remarked pointedly from the side, “Indeed, the heavy burden is all on Mingzhou’s shoulders. As for us, the eldest son’s family, our days are leisurely with nothing to do. It truly is hard work for Mingzhou.”
It was well known in the outside world that the two sons of the old patriarch were not born of the same mother. Chi Mingzhou was an illegitimate son, but no one dared mention this in his presence.
The old patriarch and the old matriarch had a family-arranged marriage. The old patriarch had loved someone else, and even after marriage, he kept in contact with her. When she became pregnant, the old patriarch impulsively wanted a divorce, but with the elders pressing down from above, the divorce was never finalized.
As it turned out, a disaster struck the family of the patriarch’s “white moonlight” (the object of his unrequited love), and she went missing while still pregnant. For over twenty years, the old patriarch searched for her, only to discover in the end that she had died in childbirth, and the child had naturally been sent to an orphanage.
After Chi Mingzhou was brought back to the Chi family, the old patriarch always felt a sense of debt toward him and longed to compensate him with everything good. Chi Mingzhou, for his part, was ambitious; he held firmly onto every opportunity the old patriarch gave him and shone even more brilliantly than the eldest son, Chi Yunsheng.
Although the old matriarch found Chi Mingzhou distasteful, she held no real power and her words carried no weight; living under the same roof, she could only endure the situation as it was.
The old patriarch cast a cold, sinister glance at Chi Yunsheng and said languidly, “Some things are not a game. If you cannot grasp them, you will not be given a second chance.”
The old matriarch’s expression turned ugly, and Chi Yunsheng sat with a darkened face, saying nothing.
The old patriarch had once let Chi Yunsheng manage the company for a period of time, but his performance was too mediocre, far inferior to Chi Mingzhou, who had secured several multi-billion-dollar projects immediately upon taking office.
Having no rebuttal, the old matriarch held onto her anger with nowhere to vent. Scanning the room, her gaze landed on Feng Mian in the corner, and she immediately lashed out sternly: “Tell that pretty boy to get upstairs!”
As soon as these words were uttered, all eyes converged on Feng Mian. Desperate to leave, Feng Mian nodded at the old matriarch and turned to walk toward the stairs.
Chi Chen looked back at the sway of Feng Mian’s waist as he climbed the stairs, his eyes gradually changing.
If this waist were held in my hands…
Whether it was because he had drunk a bit too much or something else, once the thought took root, he couldn’t suppress it any longer. His eyes burned, and his Adam’s apple bobbed up and down.
He turned to his mother, feigning nonchalance, and said, “Mom, I’m not feeling well; I’m going upstairs to rest.”
His mother’s expression was not good. Given the current atmosphere—fawning over Chi Mingzhou while stepping on Chi Yunsheng—and with Chi Chen’s position as General Manager only recently assumed and still unstable, being caught up in this would be a loss not worth taking. Rather than staying here and listening to the lecture, it was better to go upstairs and hide.
She nodded and whispered, “Go ahead.”
Chi Chen turned and headed upstairs, chasing after Feng Mian’s silhouette.
The two went up one after the other, a scene that was observed in full by Chi Mingzhou, who had remained silent the entire time.
Chi Mingzhou raised an eyebrow, took a light sip from the tea bowl in his hand, and masked the strange glint in his eyes…
