Chapter 29: Qi Hanchuan is a Bit Tea like
Jiang He had requested a cool supercar from Qi Hanchuan, intending to take Fang Zhiyi out for some fun. However, just as he arrived at the university to pick up Fang Zhiyi, Qi Hanchuan sent him a message.
Hubby: When are you treating me to that big meal?
Jiang He frowned, unable to recall for a moment. He replied directly with a voice message: “What big meal?”
Hubby: Yesterday you said if I accompanied you to the Fang house, you’d treat me to a big meal. Does that not count anymore?
Since it was inconvenient to reply to messages while driving, Jiang He simply placed a voice call to Qi Hanchuan.
“Hello. Qi Hanchuan’s voice entered his ear, sounding inexplicably gentle.
Jiang He rubbed his ear uncomfortably and said casually, “I don’t have time today. I’ll treat you another day.”
Qi Hanchuan’s tone held a hint of subtle disappointment: “I only have time today. If you’re busy, then forget it. Your affairs are more important.”
“?” Jiang He once doubted if he was hallucinating. Why did he feel like Qi Hanchuan was being a bit “tea-like” (acting like a ‘Green Tea Bitch’ – manipulative/feigning innocence)?
Hearing their exchange, Fang Zhiyi, being very observant, spoke up: “Xiao He, just drop me off at home. My mentor suddenly messaged me saying my paper needs revisions and has to be submitted tonight.”
Jiang He had originally planned to take him to a bar today. Fang Zhiyi was actually wondering what excuse to use to dissuade him, so Qi Hanchuan’s call came at the perfect time, and he really did have work to do.
“How can that be? You promised to go to the bar with me…”
Halfway through his sentence, Jiang He remembered the call hadn’t been disconnected. Just as he was about to sneakily hang up, Qi Hanchuan’s cold voice rang out: “You were planning on going to a bar?”
Jiang He’s brain worked rapidly, and he laughed: “No, you misheard. Xiao Yi said ‘hotel.’ Right, a hotel. We were planning to stay at a hotel for a night.”
Qi Hanchuan fell silent for two seconds before saying calmly: “Why go to a hotel for no reason? Didn’t you say these few days are special and insisted Fang Zhiyi stay at our house?”
Jiang He glanced at Fang Zhiyi and spoke to Qi Hanchuan with a fake smile: “That’s why Fang Zhiyi didn’t agree. He just told me staying outside isn’t safe and told me to go home. It’s lucky you called.”
He had originally intended to take Fang Zhiyi to a bar owned by a friend of Jiang Xu’s—safety was guaranteed, and the owner had promised to keep it a secret. Who knew Qi Hanchuan would suddenly do a surprise check-in?
Qi Hanchuan’s voice became gentler: “And now? Are you planning to come home?”
Jiang He felt extremely regretful inside but had to maintain a nonchalant tone: “Yeah, Fang Zhiyi says he’s busy. I’m taking him home.”
He didn’t actually intend to drink; he was just worried Fang Zhiyi was in a bad mood because of recent events and wanted to take him out to relax.
Qi Hanchuan brought the topic back: “Do you have time to treat me to that big meal today?”
Jiang He gave a “tsk,” frowning with slight irritability: “Fine, fine, fine. A grand CEO of the Qi Group chasing someone for a meal… it’s unseemly.”
Qi Hanchuan clearly let out a small laugh: “You’re the one who said you’d treat me.”
The light turned green, and Jiang He started the car. “We’ll talk at home. I’m driving.”
“Okay. Be safe.” As soon as Qi Hanchuan finished, Jiang He hung up, his face slumped in displeasure.
Fang Zhiyi comforted him with a smile: “It’s fine not going. Those places aren’t safe anyway. Besides, Mr. Qi doesn’t want you drinking. If he found out, you two would fight again.”
Jiang He said gloomily, “I didn’t plan on drinking. I just wanted to take you out to clear your head.”
Fang Zhiyi kept a gentle smile on his face: “I’m fine. School is busy lately; I don’t have time to think about those messy things.
Besides, with Jiang He around, he didn’t think about the Fang family at all.
Jiang He sighed and quickly adjusted his mood. “Alright, no point talking about it now. Home first.
When they got home, Qi Hanchuan wasn’t back yet. Jiang He randomly booked a restaurant on his phone. Since Fang Zhiyi couldn’t go, he asked the kitchen to prepare Fang Zhiyi’s favorite dishes.
After waiting for over an hour and still seeing no sign of Qi Hanchuan, Jiang He grew impatient and called him.
Qi Hanchuan’s tone was full of helplessness: “Could I trouble you to come pick me up? Zhou Yu went to pick up my grand-nephew and probably won’t be back for two hours.”
Jiang He almost blurted out “Where did you get a grand-nephew from?” before remembering Qi Hanchuan had two sisters in their sixties. Having grandchildren was normal, and their grandchildren were Qi Hanchuan’s grand-nephews.
Jiang He took two heavy breaths: “You’re still at the office?”
Qi Hanchuan answered, “Yes, at the office.”
Jiang He told him to wait, hung up, grabbed his jacket, and headed out, not forgetting to call out to Fang Zhiyi: “Xiao Yi, I’m leaving! Contact me anytime if you need something.”
Fang Zhiyi’s voice came from the small study on the first floor: “Okay! Be safe on the road!”
When Jiang He arrived at the company, he saw Qi Hanchuan standing by the roadside in a well-tailored black suit. He stood straight, his superior features impossible to ignore.
He had a bit of a temper initially, but seeing that face, Jiang He’s anger vanished instantly.
One does not stay angry with handsome men.
He was driving the silver supercar today, which was far too eye-catching as it stopped at the company entrance. Passersby stopped to stare.
Jiang He put on his sunglasses and got out of the car, leaning lazily against it as he blew a rogue whistle at Qi Hanchuan. “Hey handsome, get in.”
People around were watching them. Qi Hanchuan gave a helpless smile and stepped forward.
“Let me drive,” he said to Jiang He.
Jiang He waved him off with a grin, looking like a total brat: “No need. Today, I’m the chauffeur for CEO Qi.”
With so many eyes on them, Qi Hanchuan felt a bit awkward. He didn’t argue and sat directly in the passenger seat.
Jiang He hopped in as well, hanging his sunglasses on his collar. He rested one hand on the steering wheel, looking casual and unruly. With a lollipop in his mouth—looking like he was holding a high-end cigar—he turned and gave Qi Hanchuan a wink: “Buckle up. We’re departing immediately.”
Qi Hanchuan was amused and turned his head to buckle the seatbelt.
The supercar roared and sped away.
Qi Hanchuan hadn’t expected Jiang He to drive, and he drove quite well. This wasn’t the way to the restaurant they went to last time. Qi Hanchuan couldn’t help but ask: “Where are we going?”
Jiang He intentionally kept him in suspense: “You’ll know in a bit.”
Qi Hanchuan stopped asking and quietly reminded him to watch the road.
Jiang He took Qi Hanchuan to a niche restaurant. He had seen many couples visiting this place online, so he had booked in advance.
Qi Hanchuan glanced at the storefront and said calmly: “Xie Yunting owns this restaurant.”
Jiang He got out of the car and took off his sunglasses in shock: “Huh? This is a Xie family restaurant?”
Isn’t the Xie family’s main business in new energy? How did they get into the catering industry?
Qi Hanchuan shook his head: “It has nothing to do with the Xie family; he opened it himself.”
Jiang He gave an “oh.” “Should we switch to another place?”
He didn’t know Xie Yunting, but because of Fang Zhiyi’s situation, he didn’t really want to run into the young master of the Xie family for now.
Qi Hanchuan also didn’t really want to eat here. As far as he knew, Xie Yunting was here today. If he found out he and Jiang He were here, their “world for two” would be 100% ruined.
Just as he was about to speak, Xie Yunting’s voice came from nearby: “A-Chuan?”
Jiang He curiously sized up the man walking toward them. He was tall, about the same as Qi Hanchuan, and quite handsome, but he exuded a sense of laziness and wore a roguish smile—a playboy at first glance.
Jiang He frowned. He looked a bit familiar; he felt like he had seen this person somewhere.
Xie Yunting stepped forward with a laugh: “Why didn’t you say you were coming? I would have told my staff to prepare in advance.”
Qi Hanchuan spoke truthfully: “We were just about to leave.”
“Don’t do that! It’s not every day you visit. Today is on me.” Xie Yunting patted Qi Hanchuan’s shoulder and looked down at Jiang He. “Hello, I’m Xie Yunting.”
Jiang He said coolly: “Jiang He.
Xie Yunting glanced at Qi Hanchuan and asked Jiang He with a smile: “Why do you look like I’ve offended you? Is there something Xiao He is dissatisfied with?”
Logically, he should call Jiang He “Sister-in-law,” but Jiang He was five or six years younger than him; that seemed inappropriate. It was better to use his name.
Qi Hanchuan explained: “Fang Zhiyi is his best friend.”
Xie Yunting understood and waved his hand: “Ah, it’s all a misunderstanding. I had no idea about the marriage alliance. I’ve already told my family to drop it, or I’ll go abroad and never come back.”
Jiang He raised an eyebrow: “Really?”
Xie Yunting patted his chest: “Of course. If you don’t believe me, ask your husband. I almost got into a fight with my family over this.”
He truly had no interest in marriage alliances; he preferred romance that happened naturally. What was a marriage alliance but an arranged marriage? The Xie family wasn’t as old-fashioned as the Qi family; he had grown up living much more freely than Qi Hanchuan.
“Then remember to tell the Fang family. They’re going crazy trying to climb into your family’s circle.” Jiang He muttered quietly, “I’m afraid they’ll snap and just pack Xiao Yi up and deliver him to your bed.”
“Since he’s your friend, even if he were delivered to my bed, I wouldn’t touch him.” Xie Yunting raised his hand to swear: “If I can’t do that, may I never find a wife in my life.”
Jiang He’s focus was unique: “So you would touch anyone else?”
Xie Yunting rubbed his chin and gave a serious answer: “Depends on the face. If they’re good-looking, of course. If it’s delivered to the door, why not take it?”
Jiang He hid behind Qi Hanchuan with a look of disgust, saying with disdain: “He’s so gross. Stay away from him.”
Qi Hanchuan agreed with a smile: “Okay.”
Xie Yunting didn’t care and made a gesture of invitation. “Let’s not talk about that. Come in. I’ll have the kitchen bring out all our signature dishes. I guarantee you two will want to come back.”
Since things had reached this point, leaving would seem too deliberate. Jiang He followed Qi Hanchuan inside.
Xie Yunting talked too much and was eventually driven away by Qi Hanchuan.
Jiang He slumped his shoulders, his tone relieved: “Finally, some peace.”
Qi Hanchuan smiled and put some food on his plate. “Let’s eat first.”
Jiang He looked at the cream-baked salted shrimp and temporarily put Xie Yunting out of his mind. The shrimp were all peeled by Qi Hanchuan, so he didn’t have to lift a finger. Although Xie Yunting was a bit gross, the restaurant he opened was actually quite good. The dishes were all in the sweet and sour style that Jiang He liked. After eating and drinking his fill, he leaned back in his chair feeling a bit dazed. Suddenly, Qi Hanchuan’s voice came: “You originally planned to go to a bar today?”
Jiang He froze. How does he still remember? Didn’t I already lie my way out of it?
He didn’t dare look at Qi Hanchuan’s face and made up an excuse on the spot: “No, I don’t remember that. Hubby, are you so tired you’re hallucinating?”
Qi Hanchuan’s tone took on a hint of coldness: “You promised me you wouldn’t drink again.”
Jiang He gave an awkward laugh: “I don’t remember. You must have forced me to promise while I was drunk. I have zero impression of it.”
Qi Hanchuan looked down at him, his burning gaze impossible to ignore.
Jiang He felt guilty under the stare and waved his hand dismissively: “Alright, alright, I know. I didn’t plan on drinking anyway; I just wanted to take Fang Zhiyi out to relax.”
Qi Hanchuan shook his head helplessly and refilled Jiang He’s juice. “Xie Yunting’s birthday is in two days. He’s hosting a party on a cruise ship. Do you want to go?”
Can I bring a family member?” Jiang He turned to look at Qi Hanchuan, specifically explaining: “By ‘family member,’ I mean Fang Zhiyi, not you.”
Hearing that he had included himself as a family member as well, the displeasure in Qi Hanchuan’s heart completely vanished, and a smile appeared on his lips: “Yes.”
Seeing Qi Hanchuan smile, Jiang He knew the bar incident was settled. He leaned unceremoniously against Qi Hanchuan’s arm and asked: “You’re going too, right?”
Qi Hanchuan was sparing with his words: “To accompany you.
Jiang He beamed with a huge smile: “Thanks, Hubby.
If Qi Hanchuan went along, he and Fang Zhiyi would be completely safe. Those people were terrified of Qi Hanchuan. Qi Hanchuan was cold and not good at socializing; those wanting to suck up to him had no way in. But now that he had appeared, he was the vital bridge to Qi Hanchuan. Neither the Fang family nor anyone else would dare offend him easily.
Having a powerful husband is truly great.
The more Jiang He thought about it, the more pleased he became. He hugged Qi Hanchuan’s arm and called out “Hubby” a few times in a sweet, soft voice.
Qi Hanchuan didn’t know what he was up to now, but seeing that face full of mischievous smiles, he knew nothing good was coming.
