- Chapter 60 - A Face That Could Be Called Beautiful and Harmless
Si Tang naturally paid her no mind.
Beside her, He Moheng sneered, “Vice President Si, if Xing Nian is short of raw stones for cutting, you can come to the He Corporation and beg me another day. Perhaps I’ll remember our past relationship and provide you with a few pieces.”
“Keep your little patch of land to yourself,” Xiao Liu retorted before Si Tang could speak, rolling his eyes for good measure. “Acting like you can’t afford to live or something.”
He Moheng’s face darkened as he glanced at the young man beside Fan Yi. He still hadn’t figured out Fan Yi’s background. The jewelry company he mentioned turned out to be newly registered and not even publicly listed likely some shell corporation.
Yet, he had managed to pull off such a grand gesture, drawing the high attention of national authorities. For now, He Moheng couldn’t afford to offend him.
“Who does he think he is?” He Moheng muttered under his breath, turning away to wait for the finale raw stone to appear.
The auction reached its climax as the star lot made its entrance. It was a 15-kilogram raw stone from the Myanmar Muna mine, its surface displaying the typical waxberry skin, with multiple windows revealing a rich, vibrant green interior. The specimen was of exceptional quality.
The starting bid was ten million, and the price skyrocketed rapidly. Si Xi and He Moheng frequently raised their paddles, appearing determined to secure it.
Fan Yi, aware of the stone’s quality, instructed Xiao Liu to join the bidding. Eventually, Xiao Liu had to use telepathy to communicate with him.
“Ancestor, we don’t have that much liquid cash.”
For the first time, Fan Yi experienced the frustration of being short on funds.
So, he subtly hinted to Si Tang, “If you like it, you could bid for this one.”
Si Tang glanced at Si Xi and He Moheng, who were dead set on acquiring the stone, and merely curled her lips into a faint smile before raising her paddle.
As expected, Si Xi repeatedly raised her bid, driving the price up to over thirty million.
Si Tang leisurely set down her paddle and withdrew from the auction.
Understanding her tactic, Fan Yi couldn’t help but chuckle softly.
“Thirty-two million! Sold!” The auctioneer’s gavel fell decisively. “Congratulations to Second Miss Si and Second Young Master He!”
Si Xi wore a triumphant smile as she stood to accept the applause from the crowd, not forgetting to shoot a victorious look Si Tang’s way. “Some people just don’t have what it takes.”
With a contemptuous glance at Si Tang, she turned to He Moheng and said, “Brother Moheng, let’s have this stone cut open. It’ll be an eye-opener for everyone!”
Most importantly, she wanted Si Tang to witness just how much she, Si Xi, would shine today.
The attendees perked up at this, eagerly expressing their desire to see the unveiling of this so-called once-in-a-millennium raw stone.
“As you wish,” He Moheng replied with a slight smile.
Under the intense, anticipatory gazes of the crowd, the thirty-two-million-yuan finale stone was placed on the cutting machine. As the machine whirred to life, tension filled the air.
Si Tang, however, felt little excitement. Whether the stone turned out to be a gem or a dud, it had nothing to do with her anymore.
Unbeknownst to her, Fan Yi and 8856 were currently engaged in a telepathic “argument.”
Fan Yi complained disdainfully, “Can’t you turn this raw stone into worthless rubble? Useless thing.”
8856 whined, “The Heavenly Dao isn’t all-powerful. I’m just a divine emissary from a low-to-mid-level world.”
Fan Yi sneered, “In the past, I wouldn’t even bother devouring such lowly humans their souls are disgusting.”
If it weren’t for that damned rule about not abusing divine power to attract the attention of the Supreme God, he would have kicked these two into a ditch long ago!
“Since I can’t use divine power to beat them up, can I use mortal currency to hire someone to do it?” Fan Yi suddenly had a flash of inspiration.
8856: “…”
Theoretically feasible.
“Lord Fan Yi, don’t go too far” 8856 advised, though inwardly he was already fired up he couldn’t stand them either!
Fan Yi grew angrier the more he thought about it, feeling that he couldn’t let this despicable pair trample all over Si Tang and flaunt their arrogance.
A glint flashed in his eyes as Fan Yi retrieved the Supreme God’s staff crystal from his spatial storage.
The power of the Cosmic God could create all things.
Behind the raw stone on the stage, an icy blue light flickered in an angle invisible to all.
When the stone was finally split in two, the venue gasped in unison, then fell into dead silence the cross-section was riddled with dense cracks, with only a thin layer of green, the rest being worthless waste.
“This can’t be.” Si Xi felt her vision darken and nearly collapsed, only to be steadied by He Moheng.
An expert shook his head and sighed, “A classic case of ‘skin-deep jade’ beautiful on the outside, worthless on the inside. Thirty-two million down the drain.”
“Who would have thought even the experts misjudged it? Such an expensive raw stone turned out like this.”
“Whew, glad I didn’t bid on it.”
Both Si Xi and He Moheng looked utterly disgraced. As the event was about to end, Si Tang, Fan Yi, and the others prepared to leave the venue.
Passing by Si Xi and He Moheng, Fan Yi maintained his persona and refrained from sneering, but 8856 had no such reservations.
Did these two even deserve a perfect ending?
8856 remarked, “I wonder whose judgment is truly poor. Perhaps even the heavens can’t stand some people getting too full of themselves, so pride comes before a fall?”
“Stop right there!” Just as the three were about to leave, Si Xi shouted at them, “Since someone thinks I have poor judgment, fine. Sister, why don’t you cut open that 600,000-yuan stone of yours and let your little sister see what real jade looks like?”
If she was going to be mocked, she’d drag someone down with her! Let’s see who ends up more humiliated.
The suggestion was immediately met with enthusiastic agreement from the crowd. They were all too happy to stir the pot the rivalry between the Si sisters, with the younger one accompanied by the elder’s rumored ex-boyfriend, was drama at its finest!
Si Xi fanned the flames, “What’s the matter, sister? Too scared?”
Si Tang instinctively glanced at Fan Yi, who gave a slight nod. Only then did Si Tang gracefully step toward the cutting area. “Since everyone is so curious, let’s take a look.”
The workers carefully secured the unremarkable raw stone in the machine. As the cutting sound began, the entire venue held its breath.
When water washed away the stone dust, revealing the cross-section, the room fell into a deathly silence before erupting into even louder exclamations than before.
“Imperial Green! Glass species! This clarity, this color.”
“It’s nothing short of a miracle!”
The cross-section revealed a pure, watery emerald green, with a texture as fine as congealed fat, almost transparent under the lights the highest quality of jadeite.
The seasoned expert was so overwhelmed that he began to babble incoherently, “This is worth at least fifty million! No, eighty million! If the material is extracted intact, it could even reach a hundred million!”
Si Xi’s face instantly turned deathly pale. He Moheng also stared in shock at the stone, whose value had skyrocketed in an instant.
No, this can’t be!
How could that worthless piece of rock possibly!
Si Tang was also taken aback, instinctively glancing toward Fan Yi in the audience. He responded with a faint smile, looking completely unsurprised.
As Si Tang stepped off the stage, Fan Yi took the opportunity to grasp her hand. She glanced around at the astonished and admiring gazes, her smile humble and graceful.
“Fan Yi, you’re truly remarkable,” Si Tang whispered softly, leaning slightly toward him.
Fan Yi maintained an air of refined nonchalance. “Perhaps it’s just an expert’s intuition.”
8856 glanced at the fish whose tail was practically wagging with pride, though he tried to hide it.
The three of them were now truly ready to leave. As they passed by Si Xi and He Moheng, who were still reeling from the shock, Fan Yi gently released Si Tang’s hand. After 8856 and Si Tang had walked a few steps ahead, he suddenly turned back toward the two, his face, so perfect it seemed crafted from every beautiful word imaginable and abruptly uttered two words.
“Fucking idiots.”
When Si Xi heard it, she thought she must have misheard. Her eyes widened in disbelief as she stared in Fan Yi’s direction.
His face, strikingly beautiful and seemingly harmless, still carried an elegant smile. The white Zhongshan suit lent him a scholarly air.
Only his dark eyes, shimmering with an eerie blue light, appeared gentle and casual on the surface but were, in reality, untamable and defiant.
For a moment, Si Xi was rendered speechless.
“You. are utterly uncouth,” she stammered, her voice trembling with anger.
Before He Moheng could step in to defend her, Fan Yi turned and walked away effortlessly.
Si Tang looked at Fan Yi as he caught up, pausing her conversation with Xiao Liu. Glancing back at Si Xi and He Moheng, whose faces had turned even more unpleasant, she couldn’t help but ask curiously, “What did you say to them?”
Fan Yi smiled as serenely as a clear breeze after rain. “Nothing much.”
