- After Teasing the Crazy Mermaid, He Actually Deceived Me into Marriage
- Chapter 49 - An Eerily Familiar Feeling
The waiter thought to himself that perhaps these two wanted to take the food home to cook themselves.
“Are you planning to take these home to cook? Would you like takeout containers?” the waiter continued.
As he finished speaking, the waiter noticed that the gentleman’s face seemed somewhat dark.
“No need. Serve them as they are,” Fan Yi said.
“Very well. Please wait a moment,” the waiter replied, quickly noting down the dishes Si Tang had ordered before hurrying off.
Only then did Si Tang look at Fan Yi with a surprised expression and cautiously ask, “Are you going to eat these raw?”
“Yes.”
“Won’t that be bad for your health?”
“It won’t.”
Si Tang said nothing more. Perhaps he had a unique constitution. She had seen many coastal dwellers eat seafood raw; maybe this was just his habit. She didn’t think too much of it.
A short while later, the table gradually filled with various kinds of raw seafood.
Si Tang ate the cooked dishes she had ordered while discreetly observing the person across from her.
Fan Yi stole a glance at Si Tang’s dining posture, picked up a pair of chopsticks, and began mimicking her movements with practiced ease.
At the far end of the long table, his slender fingers picked up an oyster. His movements were elegant as he lightly scooped the flesh with a silver spoon, letting it glide between his teeth. His crimson lips moved slightly.
Then, using chopsticks, he picked up a sea fish. Its innards had been cleaned, but a bloody membrane still clung to it. Without any change in expression, he parted his lips and took a bite. His long eyelashes cast spiderweb-like shadows beneath his eyelids.
As he chewed, a trace of blood seeped from the corner of his mouth. Instinctively, he naturally swept his tongue over it to lick it away.
Si Tang’s pupils involuntarily contracted, and her hairs stood on end. A vague image flashed rapidly through her mind.
This scene inexplicably reminded her of the vampires in the legends of eerie medieval castles, giving her a chillingly familiar, ghostly feeling.
Yet, his expression was calm as he slightly raised his head to look at her.
“What’s wrong? Is there something on my face?”
Fan Yi was puzzled. He was certain he had been eating elegantly, without any subconscious animalistic reactions.
“Nothing, it’s nothing,” Si Tang replied, snapping out of her daze and lowering her head. She sighed inwardly, thinking that her imagination had been running wild lately.
It seemed she needed to find time to visit the clinic soon. Lately, these unusual occurrences had been happening more frequently, even affecting her normal social interactions.
Just moments ago, she had even experienced a hallucination.
It was a bizarre scene as if on a small island, a massive, blurry figure loomed over the sea, resembling a dark monster. It opened its blood-red maw and swallowed a school of sea fish whole in one gulp.
Even though she hadn’t seen it clearly, Si Tang knew that monster was terrifying utterly horrifying.
Before long, Si Tang had eaten her fill. When she looked up, she was utterly stunned. Fan Yi had unknowingly consumed more than half of the dishes on the table, and the food was still being served.
Not far away, a few waiters were whispering among themselves.
“I’ve never seen a customer like this before.”
“Oh my god, he’s like a competitive eater. But he’s really handsome.”
“They look like a couple a perfect match. But this gentleman is truly strange and has a huge appetite.”
Just then, a waiter brought another dish.
“This is our signature dish pufferfish sashimi. Please enjoy.”
“They say it’s the signature dish. Tangtang, would you like to try it?” Fan Yi instinctively asked.
Si Tang stared at the plate of paper-thin fish slices, hesitating to pick up her chopsticks. Being timid, she had never tried pufferfish before. It was said that improperly prepared pufferfish contained a lethal toxin with no known antidote.
“You have it. I don’t really like this,” Si Tang declined.
Fan Yi, on the other hand, didn’t hesitate for even a moment. He picked up his chopsticks, grabbed a slice, and popped it into his mouth.
He hadn’t expected that in the human world, such meticulously prepared food could actually be quite tasty.
I wonder if humans would taste better too, once their organs are removed?
The thought inexplicably crossed his mind, but he quickly dismissed it. He had promised Tangtang no more eating humans.
Si Tang’s gaze drifted downward, landing on the ruby brooch pinned to his chest. It seemed to be his favorite.
Just then, a commotion erupted nearby.
“Ah! Help! Someone’s dead call an ambulance!”
Si Tang immediately turned toward the source of the voice.
A man lay on the floor, foaming at the mouth, limbs convulsing, his eyes wide open as he gasped for breath.
Si Tang glanced over and noticed a plate of pufferfish sashimi set before him.
“Judging by his reaction, it looks like he’s been poisoned,” Si Tang remarked with a frown.
She immediately turned to Fan Yi, who had also just eaten the pufferfish. “Are you okay?!”
The trident, disguised as a brooch, thought to itself: He’s fine even after eating sulfur, what could possibly happen to him?
Fan Yi shook his head. Meanwhile, the crowd grew increasingly noisy, hurling accusations at the restaurant staff.
The manager rushed out frantically, then hurried straight to the kitchen.
“It’s over! It’s over!” the manager muttered, sweating profusely. Moments later, after dashing out of the kitchen, he made a beeline for Si Tang’s table. “Whatever you do, don’t eat that pufferfish!”
Si Tang: “…”
Her face turned pale as she swallowed nervously, her eyes fixed on the half-empty plate of pufferfish. Then she glanced at Fan Yi, who looked completely unfazed.
The manager continued, “This plate and the one at that table came from the same fish”
He froze mid-sentence as his eyes fell on the partially eaten dish. His eyes widened in horror, and his voice trembled with panic.
“You ate it? Quick, get to the hospital!”
Just then, someone called the police, and all the pufferfish dishes in the restaurant were taken away as evidence for testing.
Si Tang never imagined that a simple meal could turn into such a disaster.
Worried sick, she tightly gripped Fan Yi’s sleeve, insisting on taking him to the hospital for a check-up.
“Hurry, let’s go to the hospital. Just because you feel fine now doesn’t mean you’re not poisoned!”
Si Tang was frantic. How could a simple meal with him end up with someone poisoned?!
Fan Yi instinctively rubbed the tip of his nose. Toxins had no effect on him, and he certainly had no desire to go to the hospital.
But there was no way to escape the situation, so he reluctantly followed Si Tang to the hospital for the examination.
After a series of tests, Fan Yi had to use his divine power to alter the abnormal results in his medical report.
“All results are normal,” Si Tang sighed in relief as she read the report.
What a close call. She couldn’t help but scold the man beside her.
“Fan Yi, let’s not eat pufferfish sashimi again. I heard the person who was poisoned earlier died before even making it to the emergency room.”
At the thought, Si Tang still felt a chill run down her spine.
Just then, her phone rang.
“Hello?”
“This is the police station. You were seated at Table 6 at the seafood restaurant, correct? We’ve just confirmed that the pufferfish sashimi served at your table was contaminated with toxins. If you’ve consumed any, please go to the hospital immediately!”
Si Tang was stunned.
She glanced down at the perfectly normal test results in her hand, then looked at the completely unharmed Fan Yi, feeling as if everything was surreal.
“What’s wrong?” Fan Yi asked curiously, noticing her stunned expression after she hung up the phone.
