- Chapter 50 - The Overnight Salvaged Collection
“The police just called and said the plate of sashimi on our table was poisoned.” Si Tang’s heart was still racing. “Maybe you should get checked again? Could the hospital have made a mistake?”
Fan Yi had no choice but to be dragged by Si Tang for a reexamination.
The second medical report still showed all indicators were normal, and only then did Si Tang finally feel completely at ease.
“Perhaps the exact pieces you ate weren’t poisoned, It seems you’ve survived a great disaster and are destined for good fortune.”
“Maybe even the heavens don’t dare claim me,” Fan Yi replied half-jokingly.
After all that, night had fallen. Having been frightened by the day’s events, Si Tang suggested they postpone viewing the raw stones until the next day.
As the two left the hospital, news of the incident sparked quite a stir at the police station.
“That man named Fan Yi has ridiculously good luck. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
“He ate half a plate of pufferfish and didn’t get poisoned? That’s pufferfish we’re talking about and he managed to avoid every toxic piece? That’s more precise than playing Minesweeper.”
“That Fan Yi quite the figure not only is his background mysterious and powerful, but he also just had a flash marriage with the eldest daughter of the Si family yesterday!”
Amid the office chatter, a pale, sickly yet handsome man passed by the work area and happened to overhear the conversation. Out of professional habit, he couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow slightly.
Just then, an officer noticed the man and greeted him familiarly.
“Young Master Ling, here to see your father again?”
Ling Xubai nodded politely, coughed lightly, frowned delicately, and then turned to leave.
The officer watched his retreating figure and shook his head regretfully.
“Such a pity heaven envies true talent.”
“What do you mean?” someone nearby asked.
“Ling Xubai, haven’t you heard of him? He was a top genius from A University’s Medical School and Science Academy. Tragically, he was born with heart failure and isn’t expected to live past 30.”
“What a shame.” A sigh lingered in the air.
“It’s like God opens a window but slams all the doors shut. His childhood wasn’t great either. Rumor has it his father killed his mother with his own hands that’s why he’s in prison. And it was Ling Xubai who called the police.”
Those around murmured in sympathy.
Outside the police station.
Ling Xubai silently tossed the handkerchief in his hand into a nearby trash bin.
His phone rang.
“Professor Ling, a batch of artifacts related to Atlantis is set to be exhibited at the museum in a week. That history you mentioned it actually exists!”
“Mm, assemble a team. Don’t forget the cameras and recording notes.”
After hanging up, a thoughtful glimmer crossed Ling Xubai’s gentle eyes.
The next day, Fan Yi brought Si Tang to a secluded estate.
“This is my brother’s collection room, Jin Garden,” 8856 said from the back seat.
Si Tang parked the car, turned off the engine, and gazed out the window.
The place was surrounded by pristine mountains and clear waters and it was also by the sea.
“Do you really like the ocean?” Si Tang couldn’t help asking the person beside her.
Fan Yi neither confirmed nor denied, answering ambiguously, “Perhaps.”
As the sea god, he ought to love everything about the ocean, yet he struggled to feel that deep, inherent connection.
Connection.
Fan Yi’s gaze swept over Si Tang’s cool, exquisite face.
In truth, living near the sea simply gave him a sense of security; otherwise, when his estrus period unexpectedly arrived, his true form would be exposed, and being unable to access water would be extremely problematic.
His last estrus period was three years ago, and judging by the timing, it was due to occur again this year.
The three of them got out of the car.
White walls and gray tiles came into view. Apart from its size, the mansion was rather unremarkable from the outside. But when they pushed open the carved redwood door, they discovered a hidden world inside.
The over-300-square-meter space was primarily divided into two sections.
8856 introduced to her, “The left side is the constant temperature and humidity raw stone storage area, and the right side is the antique and jewelry storage room.”
Fan Yi subtly positioned himself between the two, his demeanor calm and elegant. The three of them walked through the corridor and arrived first at a door on the right.
Fan Yi paused, a hint of laughter in his tone, and was the first to push open the wooden door to the antique collection room.
“Appraiser Si, would you like to take a look and appreciate them?”
Si Tang’s gaze was immediately drawn to the scene inside, and she couldn’t help but gasp in the next moment.
The room was filled with tens of thousands of dazzling artifacts, and Si Tang was overwhelmed. Even with her extensive experience, she couldn’t help but marvel inwardly.
This was just too extravagant.
What shocked her even more was that she had never seen any of these antiques on the market before!
“How did all these come to be here?” Si Tang slowly stepped forward, her eyes fixed intently on the antiques.
From every angle, they were all rare treasures that had never been seen before, and she couldn’t detect any signs of forgery.
But there were over ten thousand pieces here.
Fan Yi remained silent for a few seconds.
He couldn’t very well say that he had used his divine power to dredge them up from the seabed just the night before yesterday, could he?
8856 thought to himself: All this just to show off in front of humans.
“Because my ancestors lived by the sea, all of these were retrieved from the ocean depths.”
Si Tang couldn’t help but think that his ancestors were truly remarkable. Just a few of these pieces would be enough to live comfortably for several lifetimes.
But, wasn’t the way he displayed them a bit too casual?
Priceless treasures seemed to be treated here as ordinary objects rather than invaluable historical relics. They were simply enclosed by glass panels on all sides and piled up in one area.
In Fan Yi’s eyes, these objects held no real significance. It was only because Si Tang liked them that he had reluctantly set up a few dustproof glass panels a rather generous treatment, in his opinion.
The artifacts spanned from the Bronze Age to the classical period, and even included treasures from the ruins of Atlantis.
There were rare vessels that emitted a crescent-moon-white glow.
“It’s simply unimaginable,” Si Tang exclaimed in awe after finishing her tour.
The three of them exited the room and, after walking through the corridor for a while longer, arrived at the raw stone storage area that Xiao Liu had mentioned.
Pushing the door open and stepping inside, Si Tang’s eyes widened once again.
Here, the stones didn’t receive the same treatment as the antiques. Countless raw stones were piled up into mountains, and Si Tang didn’t know where to focus her gaze.
“Feel free to choose,” Fan Yi leaned against the doorframe, his arms elegantly crossed.
Si Tang took out a high-powered flashlight and a magnifying glass from her backpack, then crouched down to examine the nearest stones. The more she looked, the more astonished she became. These raw stones were all exceptional, and remarkably so.
“These stones have a fine, creamy skin with winding color pythons coiling around them. The internal color bands are likely outstanding.”
After examining several stones in a row, Si Tang couldn’t help but ask, “Where did you obtain these raw stones? The quality and clarity of this batch are truly impressive.”
Fan Yi fell silent once again for a few seconds.
He certainly couldn’t admit that he had used divine power to nearly empty an undiscovered primitive mine overnight, then handpicked these gems.
“My ancestors. took great interest in these. They collected them while traveling around the world. Many were purchased before they even reached auctions,” Fan Yi explained.
Si Tang nodded in understanding, growing increasingly convinced of Fan Yi’s mysterious background.
Rising to her feet, Si Tang moved to another section and examined several more stones consecutively, her astonishment deepening with each one.
Just how exceptional were his ancestors’ insights and vision to have such discerning eyes? Moreover, these were all large-diameter raw stones, with hardly any small ones.
This, of course, was thanks to a certain fish’s disdain for small gems.
“Sister Si Tang, have you made your selection?” 8856 asked, noticing her somewhat dazed expression.
