- Chapter 15 - Getting Married to My Disciple in a Dreamscape!
Lin Sui felt a sudden weight on his body. When he opened his eyes again, he was sitting on a bed. His field of vision was a wash of vibrant red; a fiery wedding veil covered his head, and the weight on his crown made his neck ache.
Could his eyes actually see?
Candlelight flickered within the room, casting a long shadow of a figure standing before him. Lin Sui tried to move his fingers, only to find that he could not move at all. He realized he was trapped within this body, forced to follow the actions of its owner.
Had he entered a dreamscape? Had Xiao Qingyan come along with him?
“Zhang-lang,” he spoke, but the name that left his lips was not Senior Brother Xiao.
The man addressed as Zhang-lang used a jade scepter to lift the red veil, his eyes shimmering with joy and urgency. Lin Sui raised a hand to cover his lips and smiled, feeling the same joyous emotions of the body’s owner.
The two sat on the bed and drank the ceremonial nuptial wine together. Then, Lin Sui’s waist was pulled into Zhang-lang’s embrace, and his entire being was pressed against the man’s chest. He shyly tilted his head back, offering his lips to the corner of Zhang-lang’s mouth.
As he leaned in, Zhang-lang’s face transformed into the face of Xiao Qingyan. Lin Sui’s pupils shook with shock. He struggled frantically to break free from the body’s constraints.
A wave of heat hit his lips as fragrant peach blossom wine was passed into his mouth. Xiao Qingyan flipped over and pinned him down. He was pressed to the bottom, and his wedding robes were torn open. The Xiao Qingyan before his eyes blurred rapidly, finally turning into a haze of gray.
He was blind again.
Lin Sui was truly going crazy. Why was this dreamscape using their original forms!
Xiao Qingyan tightly gripped Lin Sui’s waist, nearly snapping it. He stared at Lin Sui’s flushed face with a fierce gaze. How had this person suddenly taken on Shizun’s face? What exactly was the master of this dreamscape trying to do?
Lin Sui sat up. His wedding robes were torn wide open, leaving his chest completely exposed. A hideous scar sat upon his left breast; it appeared to have healed only recently, showing a soft pink hue.
“Shizun?” Xiao Qingyan gripped Lin Sui’s chin, forcing him to look up.
Those hollow eyes stared blankly at the ceiling, and the cinnabar mark on his forehead glowed with a faint red light.
“Ngh!”
Lin Sui gasped in pain and grabbed Xiao Qingyan’s wrist, his expression agonized. “Yan-er, is that you?”
Xiao Qingyan did not answer. Shizun had delivered himself to his door, after all. He leaned in, took the wine from the side, and pressed the spout of the pot into Lin Sui’s slightly parted mouth.
The cool liquid poured down his throat, the spice of it making Lin Sui choke out more than half. Suddenly, his lips were blocked. A warm liquid was sent inside, and he subconsciously swallowed.
At this moment, Lin Sui only felt his brain growing dizzy. His throat stung from the wine, yet the liquid continued to flow in without end. He was unwilling to drink more, but the person did not force him; he simply kept pouring it into his mouth. Wine overflowed from the corners of his lips, trickling down his neck and onto his collarbone.
After finishing the wine, Xiao Qingyan pushed him back onto the bed. A large hand moved over his exposed chest, slowly traveling to the left side before pressing down hard. The person beneath him let out a seductive whimper, causing a swelling ache in Xiao Qingyan’s lower body.
The dark red bed curtains fell during their struggle. A slender, jade-white hand gripped the dark red fabric, the pink fingertips turning white from the strain. Whimpers echoed through the room.
Lin Sui felt as if he were floating on clouds. The scorching sun made him drench with sweat; he felt like a parched fish, desperately sucking at the water offered to his lips.
“Junior Brother Lin, Junior Brother Lin.”
Xiao Qingyan’s voice drifted from a distance. Lin Sui slowly opened his eyes. Upon seeing the face inches away from his own, his abdomen throbbed with a cramp-like pain.
“Junior Brother Lin, are you alright? I saw you fainted here as soon as I woke up.” Xiao Qingyan actually wanted to ask if Lin Sui had entered any dreamscape after he passed out.
“I, I am fine. Senior Brother Xiao, why did I faint?” Lin Sui thought of the events in the dreamscape and decided not to admit to anything. After all, it was just a dreamscape. It could not be taken seriously.
Thinking this way, Lin Sui felt less nervous. He looked around and saw that they were currently in an inn.
Upon hearing Lin Sui’s reply, Xiao Qingyan could not help but frown. Had that dreamscape only targeted him?
“Senior Brother Xiao, why don’t I see Senior Brother Zhu and the others?” Lin Sui asked when he did not see Zhu Jiayu.
“You can see?” Xiao Qingyan realized that Lin Sui could actually see.
Lin Sui was also stunned. He blinked his eyes and pinched his cheeks. Once he was certain he could see, he stood up excitedly.
“Yes! I, I can see! Senior Brother Xiao, I can see!”
Seeing Lin Sui so happy about regaining his sight, Xiao Qingyan did not think it was necessarily a good thing. This was likely just a result of the dreamscape; once they left, Lin Sui would probably be blind again.
Lin Sui was so happy he was nearly in tears. Heaven knew how helpless he felt being unable to see. The system refused to give him any privileges, only appearing to act as his eyes at critical moments. If he had known that following the villain on a mission would restore his sight, he never would have refused!
Seeing the youth so joyful, Xiao Qingyan could not bear to tell him the truth. However, an idea began to sprout in his mind. The youth’s eyes had been injured by a demonic cultivator. If he could properly tame the demonic energy within his own body, perhaps he could heal the youth’s eyes himself.
“Senior Brother Xiao, I, I can see!” Lin Sui grabbed Xiao Qingyan’s hand. The joy of sharing this made even Xiao Qingyan look pleasant to him.
“Mm. I know.” Xiao Qingyan grabbed Lin Sui’s hand back. The youth’s hand was delicate and small, completely swallowed within his palm. “Let us find Senior Brother Zhu and the others first.”
Lin Sui remembered that the mission required four people to complete. He took out his disciple plaque and tried to contact Zhu Jiayu. The plaque glowed in his palm for a moment before returning to silence.
Lin Sui guessed that the other two were likely trapped in their own dreamscapes. “Senior Brother Xiao, I cannot contact them.”
As soon as he finished speaking, a sudden commotion broke out outside the inn.
“Dead people! There are dead people!”
Following that earth-shattering shout, the people on the street immediately scattered like startled birds. Xiao Qingyan held Lin Sui’s hand, and in a breath, they were out on the street.
After accepting the mission, the seal on his spiritual power had automatically vanished. Teleporting was not difficult for him. Although he appeared to have a Foundation Building cultivation, he could easily break through to the Golden Core stage whenever he wished.
Lin Sui’s body, however, had only just managed to draw qi into his body upon reaching the mission site. He was not at all adjusted to Xiao Qingyan’s extreme speed.
“Xiao, Senior Brother Xiao. I am dizzy.” Lin Sui’s voice was weak and his face was pale, looking as if he might faint at any moment.
Xiao Qingyan immediately felt regret. Lin Sui had only just started cultivation; he could not handle the strain of teleportation. He funneled some spiritual power into Lin Sui’s body, only then did the youth’s complexion improve.
Lin Sui knew they only had five days for this mission. The first day was almost over, and they could not afford to delay. He immediately pulled himself together. “Thank you, Senior Brother. Let us go see what is happening!”
Xiao Qingyan nodded and grabbed a passerby. “Where are the dead people?”
The passerby shrunk back, stuttering and unable to get many words out. Lin Sui walked over and explained their intentions. The person looked as if they had seen a savior and fell to their knees in tears.
“Immortals! Immortals! You have finally come! A monster is killing people! A monster is killing people! It killed the scholar’s entire family!”
The person on the ground trembled, the fear on their face unabated. Their pupils were constricted as if they had not yet processed the news of the deaths.
Having gained key information, Lin Sui asked, “Where is the scholar’s house? Can you take us there?”
The person on the ground grew even more terrified. “Immortal, please let me go. You are an immortal; you should go yourself. I am just a mortal. Going there would be a death sentence.”
Lin Sui knew he would not get any more answers from this person, so he tried to ask the system. To his surprise, the system was offline again, with only the mission panel glowing with the words “Replace the Villain’s White Moonlight.”
He sighed and let the person stand up. The man thanked Lin Sui repeatedly and pointed toward the road behind them. “Immortal, keep going straight. When you see a tailor shop, turn left. The scholar’s house is the sixth one.”
After speaking, his pace quickened significantly as he fled.
Lin Sui felt that the behavior of these people was far too strange. Normally, if a body was found, shouldn’t they report it to the authorities? Why were they hiding in their homes instead?
He began to observe his surroundings. Following the shout about the dead, every household had closed its doors and windows tightly. Some had even abandoned their business halfway to hide. Furthermore, yellow talismans were pasted on every door and window.
“Junior Brother Lin. Let us check the scholar’s house first.” Xiao Qingyan also felt the strangeness, but he believed the mystery would be solved at the scholar’s home.
“Alright.” Lin Sui nodded. He followed the route provided by the man and reached the front of the house with Xiao Qingyan.
Before even entering, they could smell a heavy scent of blood. It was not hard to imagine how gruesome the scene inside would be. Lin Sui’s palms involuntarily tightened, and he found he could not take another step forward.
Xiao Qingyan turned and saw Lin Sui’s deathly pale face. “Junior Brother Lin, what is wrong?”
Lin Sui bit his lip tightly, trying not to let Xiao Qingyan notice his distress, but his legs refused to move.
“Junior Brother Lin?” Xiao Qingyan called again.
It took a long time for Lin Sui to speak. “Xiao, Senior Brother Xiao, I, I am afraid.”
Xiao Qingyan remembered that Lin Sui’s parents had been brutally murdered by demonic cultivators; naturally, he would be afraid. He comforted him softly, “Don’t be afraid, Junior Brother Lin. It is alright.”
Lin Sui did not feel better despite the comfort. A breeze blew through the courtyard, carrying an even stronger scent of blood that seemed ready to swallow him whole. Lin Sui could not help but lean over and retch until his eyes were filled with tears.
A cool spiritual power entered his body, and the scent of blood at the tip of his nose faded. Lin Sui finally felt his breathing become smooth, and a layer of warm spiritual power covered his eyes.
“Let us go, Junior Brother Lin.”
Now that Lin Sui could neither smell nor see, he was no longer panicked. He allowed Xiao Qingyan to lead him into the courtyard.
Splash!
He stepped into a pool of liquid. The sticky sensation beneath his feet shot straight to his brain.
Blood! He had stepped in blood!
A vast expanse of red appeared in Lin Sui’s mind. His entire body began to shake, and his stomach cramped, making him want to pull away from Xiao Qingyan and run.
Xiao Qingyan could not leave Lin Sui alone outside the courtyard. He could not guarantee what Lin Sui might encounter out there. It was better to keep him close.
Lin Sui was almost in tears. He thought that if he could not see or smell, he would not be afraid, but this was even more terrifying.
“Don’t be afraid. It is alright.”
Xiao Qingyan led Lin Sui carefully, avoiding the bloody remains in the courtyard. No wonder the person who found the scholar’s family had screamed so crazily. This was simply too cruel.
