After Rebirth, I Became My Ex's "White Moonlight" - Chapter 60
Cheng Siyu didn’t speak further. She picked up her phone and scanned it; the only topic related to her today was a trend where she had stood all morning like a “milk billboard.” The meme had successfully gone viral, causing milk sales to hit their peak for the month.
After a quick glance revealed no other interesting news, Cheng Siyu turned off her phone. It was during this brief gap that Xie You, out of the corner of her eye, noticed the marks on her hand.
“What happened to your hand?”
“It’s nothing. She did it.”
Cheng Siyu only then noticed a red ring around her wrist. She couldn’t understand where Ji Yun—who had been so weak just moments ago—had gotten such strength.
“Young people just don’t know how to be gentle with the fairer sex,” Xie You said airily.
At that moment, Zhao Xixi sent Cheng Siyu the itinerary for the next day. Only then did she remember she was heading to the film set tomorrow.
“Will those two get into a fight on set?”
Cheng Siyu muttered aimlessly. Her finger lingered on the promotional poster featuring Shen Moxu and Qin Xiangqing, and then she turned to look at Xie You.
“Let me ask you a moral question.”
“What is it?”
“If one day you discovered your partner had slept with your biological older sister, what would you do?”
Cheng Siyu’s words caused Xie You to sink into a long silence. After a while, she replied with her usual composure:
“Record a video, post it online, find a tabloid to publish it, and come up with an explosive headline.”
“Mhm.” Cheng Siyu recalled the hesitation in Shen Zhinian’s eyes when they ran into each other at the restaurant that day. Back then, Shen Zhinian had still been full of resentment toward Qin Xiangqing.
She didn’t know why, in just a few short months, Shen Zhinian could go from that to drinking with her and even rolling under the sheets.
Remembering Shen Zhinian’s staunch opposition to the two of them being together, a bold suspicion formed in Cheng Siyu’s mind: Could it be that Shen Zhinian had offered herself up just to prevent Shen Moxu and Qin Xiangqing from being together?
But she quickly dismissed the thought. They were biological sisters; there seemed to be no need for that.
“Why are you asking this all of a sudden?”
Xie You’s voice interrupted Cheng Siyu’s train of thought. She didn’t intend to be honest with Xie You, so she simply explained:
“I saw it on a Q&A app and thought it was interesting, so I wanted to ask you.”
“However, things like this aren’t unheard of in this circle,” Xie You added meaningfully. “Cases where two sisters serve one old male producer for resources have happened before.”
After saying this, Xie You glanced at Cheng Siyu. Having had one foot in the industry since birth, she had seen things far more depraved than this.
But looking at Cheng Siyu now, she had a gut feeling that this girl wouldn’t have to go through any of that—not while she was around.
“Mhm,” Cheng Siyu hummed softly, lost in thought as she looked out the car window.
When the car reached the building where Cheng Siyu lived, she reached out and unbuttoned the first button of Xie You’s collar. For the first time, she proactively kissed Xie You’s collarbone before saying:
“Thank you.”
It wasn’t until she had closed the door and walked away that Xie You realized, a beat late, that Cheng Siyu was treating herself like an actress exchanging sex for resources.
…
When Cheng Siyu returned home, the house was silent. She remembered that today was the day Shen Moxu’s parents returned to the country, so she had gone to a family dinner.
Only then did she realize that she no longer had anyone she could call family by her side. Her family members were either buried in the ground or locked in prison.
With a pop, Cheng Siyu opened a bottle of cola and switched on the TV, trying to create some noise in the lifeless home.
At that moment, the TV was broadcasting news of “Qin Xiangqing winning the Best Actress award for a certain film.” In the news clip, she was as radiant as ever, looking as though she hadn’t been affected by Shen Moxu in the slightest.
Ji Yun in her previous life, after her death, had probably been the same way. Cheng Siyu pressed the button to change the channel. The TV showed behind-the-scenes footage of Ji Yun’s recently filmed drama, Sparkling Life.
Cheng Siyu was no stranger to this drama because, in her previous life, she had sat in front of the TV every night just to see Ji Yun through the screen at the earliest opportunity.
On the screen, Ji Yun was saying her lines with a distressed expression: “You’ll stay with me forever, right?”
This scene made Cheng Siyu think of Ji Yun’s complexion earlier. Her heart felt as if it were being pricked sharply by needles, a piercing pain that radiated through her. She eventually turned off the TV and drifted off to sleep leaning against the sofa.
“Siyu, why are you sleeping on the sofa?”
After an unknown amount of time, the living room lights were turned on. Cheng Siyu woke up with a start to see Shen Moxu, who had returned covered in snow.
Cheng Siyu looked out the window; the sky outside was pitch black.
“No reason, I was just too tired and fell asleep.”
The next second, after changing her shoes, Shen Moxu suddenly rushed over to her in three or two steps. She placed her freezing fingers against Siyu’s face, which was flushed red from sleep, and let out a sigh of relief.
“Ah, that feels so good.”
“Shen Moxu!” Cheng Siyu pushed her away without mercy, but she leaned back in the next second.
“Old Cheng, I’m freezing to death. You can’t just leave me to die.”
“Old Shen, success can only be achieved through one’s own efforts.” Having said that, Cheng Siyu heartlessly slapped Shen Moxu’s hand away. She stood up, took a heat pack out of her bag, and tossed it to her.
“Supplies are limited, so fend for yourself.”
“A life-saving grace, I shall never forget it.”
While talking, Cheng Siyu sat back on the sofa and looked at Shen Moxu, who was rubbing her hands, and asked:
“What’s going on with you and your sister?”
“It is what it is. She wanted me to listen to her explanation, but I didn’t want to. My mom made her drive me back, and only then did I find out… she didn’t want me to be with Qin Xiangqing because they were already together back in university.”
Shen Moxu vented a long string of grievances before finally summarizing: “Those two have been involved for a long time. They’re both sick, keeping it from me.”
Hearing this, Cheng Siyu was about to offer a few words of comfort, but Shen Moxu’s cold hands instinctively moved to her neck for warmth again.
As a result, Shen-someone didn’t get any comfort and instead received a beating.
“You’re joining the cast tomorrow. How do you plan to get along with your former goddess?”
“You protect me.” Having been hit once, Shen Moxu was still persistent and leaned in again.
This time, because she had warmed up a bit, Cheng Siyu didn’t drive her away, but said coldly:
“The two of you are the leads. I’m leaving as soon as I finish filming my segments.”
“Whatever comes, I’ll deal with it. She’s the one who slept with her girlfriend’s biological sister, not me. She’s the one who should be embarrassed!”
As Shen Moxu spoke, she suddenly became agitated, and two tears escaped her eyes. She hurriedly wiped them away. Cheng Siyu knew she hadn’t moved on yet and handed her a tissue.
“If I had known they were so in love, I wouldn’t have liked her for a second.” Shen Moxu took the tissue and wiped her tears, then crumpled it up as if it were Qin Xiangqing and stomped on it on the floor.
“Don’t cry. If you burst into tears the moment you see her tomorrow without saying a word, wouldn’t that be a huge embarrassment?”
“I won’t. I’m going to give her a good beating, beat her until she cries and apologizes to me.”
Shen Moxu said she wouldn’t cry, but tears kept rolling down from her eyes like pearls from a broken string.
“Alright.”
Cheng Siyu simply patted her back soothingly. She knew that moving on took time—perhaps one might never move on, just as she could never forget how Ji Yun used to call out Ji Yan’s name while they were intimate.
“Don’t cry. If your eyes are swollen, you won’t look good on set tomorrow.”
“Okay… okay.” Shen Moxu took a deep breath to stop her tears, and her shoulders, which were trembling from crying, gradually stabilized.
The next morning.
Cheng Siyu set her alarm for an hour earlier than the scheduled time. When she came out into the living room, she found that Shen Moxu was already awake and eating breakfast; she had even thoughtfully ordered a portion for her.
“You, today…”
“Don’t mind me. I’m going to chop Qin Xiangqing into pieces!” After saying that, Shen Moxu viciously sliced the bacon in front of her, her gaze as if she were truly cutting a person.
Cheng Siyu had no choice but to suppress her questions and started eating her breakfast as well. It wasn’t until Shen Moxu had finished “chopping” that Siyu asked:
“How are you getting to the set today? Did the company send a car for you? Do you have a makeup artist?”
“I can drive myself. As for the makeup artist, I’ll use Qin Xiangqing’s. That lady is very nice.”
True, one never had to worry about Shen Moxu when it came to social networking.
“Mhm. Stay safe. See you on set.”
After finishing her meal, Cheng Siyu spoke to Shen Moxu, then opened the door. Before leaving, she also took the trash out from the doorway.
When Cheng Siyu arrived at the set, there weren’t many people there yet. After discussing the scene with today’s screenwriter, she sat in the dressing room and let Li Yexing apply her makeup.
But after sitting for a while, a person who was like a lingering spirit sat down beside her—it was Ji Yun, who had looked like she was on the verge of death yesterday.
“What are you doing here?”
“Didn’t you look at the cast list? I’m one of the actors too.” Ji Yun sat down beside her without any hesitation.
Cheng Siyu flipped through the cast list. It wasn’t until the last few rows that she saw an original character’s name crossed out with a red pen, with Ji Yun’s name written above it.
Despite the confusion in her heart, Cheng Siyu didn’t pursue the matter further. Right now, she just wanted to be as far away from Ji Yun as possible.
“Xiao Ji, why are you here too? What a coincidence.”
After a while, Shen Moxu arrived as well. Cheng Siyu took the opportunity to shift to the left, letting Shen Moxu sit between them.
“Are you two still fighting?”
Shen Moxu sat down carelessly, then took out her script and waited.
“Mhm,” Cheng Siyu answered without hesitation, then added, “It’s not fighting; we broke up.”
Ji Yun looked at Shen Moxu with an innocent expression.
“Are you chasing your wife all the way to the set?” Seeing Ji Yun, Shen Moxu seemed to have found a way to relieve her stress and started chatting with her incessantly.
“Why are you two fighting? Do you need me to be a mediator?”
“Yes.” “No.”
The two voices rang out simultaneously. Cheng Siyu, who had already finished her makeup, decided to stay away from the conflict. She ignored the two of them and walked to the break area to read her script.
Li Yexing, however, stayed behind and cheerfully joined their conversation.
A while later, all the actors had arrived except for Qin Xiangqing, who was nowhere to be seen.
Cheng Siyu had already learned through the Ji Yun of her previous life that on any set with Qin Xiangqing, filming almost never started on time. Only on the few occasions when it was a famous veteran director who had won awards would she show up exactly on the dot.
“Siyu-jie, is that Shen Moxu your friend?” Lin Zhizhi’s cautious voice drifted over.
“Mhm, why?”
“Is she seeing someone? Is she straight or gay?” Lin Zhizhi’s eyes lit up as if she had seen gold and silver treasures.
Actually, she had met Shen Moxu at a gathering a few days ago, but she had been a bit shy then and didn’t dare to approach her.
“Gay. And… she’s a good person. You can give it a try; she might like your type.”
Cheng Siyu sized Lin Zhizhi up and nodded.
“Really?”
