- Chapter 59 - I Like Seeing You Blush
Cheng Siyu stood frozen on the spot, contemplating whether she should do something, when the sound of a sharp slap rang out in the next second.
“Did I raise you all these years just so you could mess around with people outside?” Following the slap, Mother Qi’s stern voice echoed throughout the entire set.
“Mess around? Didn’t you say you no longer considered me your daughter? Why are you even here?”
Qi Yan ignored her and gestured for the security guards to remove the two of them. However, at that moment, He Wuyou hugged Qi Yan’s leg tightly and began to cry.
“Mommy, Mommy, don’t you want Xiaoyou anymore? Xiaoyou will be good. Xiaoyou wants to be with Mommy.”
The scene instantly fell into chaos. The security guards arrived, but seeing that an elderly woman was involved, they hesitated to take action.
Mother Qi, acting as if she feared the situation wasn’t loud enough, shouted toward a nearby camera:
“Everyone, come look! This is my heartless daughter. For the sake of a woman outside, she doesn’t even want her child or her mother anymore.”
“Enough!”
Xi You walked out from the director’s group and gave a firm order, signaling the bodyguards to quickly escort Mother Qi out.
However, He Wuyou ignored Qi Yan’s rejection and clung desperately to her leg, sobbing, “I’m not leaving. Xiaoyou wants to stay with Mommy.”
Seeing this, a look of pity crossed Xi You’s face. She said, “Since she’s already here, let her stay. I’ll take her back at noon; it won’t interfere with anything.”
After all, this was a child she had raised herself. Seeing her cry like this, Qi Yan could only let her stay.
Cheng Siyu sat not far away watching the scene, unsure of what to say, and simply turned her gaze away.
“Does Xiaoyou’s mommy not want her anymore?”
Li Enyu had sat down beside her at some unknown point. Cheng Siyu looked toward where the girl had run from.
Li Enyu’s mother was sitting in the front row chatting with another guest, her eyes occasionally lingering on her sleeping son’s face, not granting Li Enyu a single ounce of attention.
Seeing this, Cheng Siyu felt a pang in her heart. She turned her head and whispered an explanation to Li Enyu.
“No, there are just some unavoidable reasons. Her daddy and mommy have to separate.”
“Just like my daddy and mommy, right?”
Li Enyu’s naive voice sounded. Only then did Cheng Siyu remember that she was also a child of divorce.
“Yes.”
As she spoke, she couldn’t help but reach out and stroke Li Enyu’s hair.
“It’s okay, I have a new daddy now.” Li Enyu didn’t notice the pity in Cheng Siyu’s eyes. She pulled a piece of candy out of her pocket and said with a grin:
“I can go comfort my little sister.”
“Go ahead,” Cheng Siyu said. She watched as the girl trotted back to, He Wuyou’s side, thinking that if she could remain this unaware and kind forever, it wouldn’t be a bad thing.
Soon, the live broadcast began. He Wuyou was arranged to sit next to Qi Yan as she wished, though she kept a tight grip on Qi Yan’s arm and never let go.
Since there were many children on set, the games were mainly designed for them, with the guests serving as foils. Because Cheng Siyu’s injuries from her previous assault hadn’t fully healed, she just sat to the side.
However, the production crew didn’t let her stay idle. They placed a glass of milk on the table in front of her and gave her a dedicated camera angle, making her sit there as a human billboard.
It wasn’t until the next Q&A segment that Cheng Siyu was finally freed from the constraints of the dedicated camera.
“I’d like to ask Siyu, would you prefer a boy or a girl?”
The host’s first question pointed directly at her. Cheng Siyu’s sexual orientation was currently a mystery in the industry, so the question seemed to have a double meaning: one asking about her orientation, and the other about her future children.
“I…” Cheng Siyu fumbled with the microphone and thought for a long time before saying, “As long as it’s my child, I’ll like them no matter what they are like.”
She skillfully avoided the conflict point and only breathed a sigh of relief when she heard the host move on to another person.
By the final voting segment for the children, Cheng Siyu—who hadn’t participated in the games—unsurprisingly came in last. Her only vote came from Li Enyu.
“Next, we ask the audience to choose one of three penalties for Cheng Siyu.”
One: Name which guest present you most want to collaborate with in the future and why; Two: Name the guest you most want to invite for the second season; Three: Answer one question from the audience.
The first two seemed like distractions; only the third was what the audience truly wanted.
Unsurprisingly, 90% of the people on the screen chose the third option.
The only recent gossip regarding Cheng Siyu was the post Ji Yun had erratically made yesterday. Cheng Siyu figured it couldn’t get too ridiculous.
But the production crew still picked the most sensationalist question from the crowd:
“Did you forgive Ji Yun yesterday?”
Cheng Siyu froze and coughed twice. A look of confusion appeared in her eyes, but she quickly recovered.
“It wasn’t a major conflict. We’ve already made up.”
The host immediately followed up with: “On behalf of the fans, I’d like to ask what the conflict was about, if I may?”
…What exactly did this question have to do with this variety show? Cheng Siyu suppressed the urge to throw the microphone and replied with a smile, “Just some past disagreements.”
Perhaps sensing that Cheng Siyu was genuinely becoming angry, the host stopped pushing and followed the script to redirect the topic to the audience, asking which celebrities they hoped to see bring their children next season.
“If you have any suggestions for the next season of ‘Little Ones,’ you can participate in the Weibo hashtag #LittleOnes for a chance to win a case of XX Milk and three travel tickets to X City…”
Finally, with that sentence from the host, the live broadcast ended.
Since she had to join a film crew tomorrow, Cheng Siyu had no scheduled activities for the afternoon. She personally preferred to go home and sleep.
However, things rarely went as she wished. Just after Cheng Siyu finished removing her makeup and changed into her own clothes, she saw a familiar figure as she stepped out.
Ji Yun had appeared there again at some point and was squatting down, playing with He Wuyou.
Cheng Siyu noticed the IV marks still on Ji Yun’s hand. Even the thick clothes she wore couldn’t hide how frail her body had become after the car accident.
Cheng Siyu intended to ignore her and walk away, but once Ji Yun saw her, she chased after her and grabbed her wrist.
“What are you doing?”
Mindful of Ji Yun’s injuries and the surrounding crowd, Cheng Siyu didn’t use excessive force to shake her off.
“Can you give me a few minutes? I want to show you something.”
After saying this, Ji Yun ignored Cheng Siyu’s struggle and pulled her into a dressing room.
Since the guests and audience had already dispersed, the dressing room was empty.
At that moment, Ji Yun took several photos out of her bag and tossed them onto the table.
“Do you think Xi You is clean?”
Cheng Siyu scanned the photos. They were all about Xi You’s past romantic entanglements. Seeing Ji Yun’s expression—acting as if she were in total control—she chuckled and replied:
“I never thought she was clean.”
At the very least, Xi You wouldn’t juggle multiple relationships, nor would she fall in love with her own cousin and then find someone else to act as a body double.
However, those were things the Ji Yun of her previous life had done. Cheng Siyu had no intention of explaining that to the Ji Yun of this life.
“Then why did you break up with me? Wasn’t it because of something she said to you?”
Ji Yun’s tone became agitated. She gripped Cheng Siyu’s hand so tightly that it felt like she might snap the bones in her wrist.
“No.” Cheng Siyu tried hard to shake off her hand, but she remained restrained. Still cautious of Ji Yun’s injuries, the two remained in a deadlock.
She said with a cold expression, “I told you long ago, you need to grow up. I don’t like people who are too controlling.”
“I was wrong. Can we get back together, please?”
“No.” Cheng Siyu finally broke free from Ji Yun’s grip. A mark had been pressed into her wrist. She looked at Ji Yun coldly; she was just like her previous life, always thinking everyone else was in the wrong.
“Have you not been weaned yet?”
Cheng Siyu asked the question she had asked countless times before. “I said it yesterday. That was the last time.”
“But I feel like you still love me.” Ji Yun looked at Cheng Siyu, suddenly coughed a few times, and then her body slumped as she sat down on the sofa.
“You haven’t fully recovered yet, have you?”
Seeing her like this, a flash of pity crossed Cheng Siyu’s eyes, but it vanished instantly. She took out her phone.
“Do you want me to call 120 for you?”
“No need.”
Ji Yun suddenly moved close, knocked the phone out of her hand, and grabbed her hand. Her eyes showed a wounded expression.
“Just stay with me for a while.”
“How long? I have things to do this afternoon.”
“Just a while… just a while is fine.”
Perhaps due to physical pain, Ji Yun’s voice grew softer and softer. Seeing her this way, Cheng Siyu didn’t dare move recklessly, fearing she might collapse right in front of her.
At the same time, she was scolding herself. Even after experiencing so much and dying once, she still felt a stir in her heart when she saw an injured Ji Yun.
Perhaps having been humiliated for so long, she actually found herself somewhat enjoying the feeling of being alone in a room with Ji Yun. She was probably terminally ill in the head.
After a few minutes, Ji Yun gradually recovered, and her pale complexion regained some color. Cheng Siyu stacked the photos on the table without looking at them again and picked up the phone Ji Yun had knocked to the floor.
After sending a message to Zhao Xixi telling her not to wait for her anymore, Cheng Siyu stood up and headed for the door.
“Don’t go, okay?” Ji Yun struggled to stand, but sat back down again.
“The world doesn’t revolve around you alone.” Cheng Siyu didn’t let herself look at her face and walked out the door anyway.
“Where’s Xiaoyun?”
“Inside.”
Watching Qi Yan push the door and go in, Cheng Siyu brushed the dust off her clothes, walked out of the set, and let out a long breath.
“Do you need a lift?”
A car slowed to a stop in front of her. Appearing in the window was Xi You’s extraordinarily elegant face.
“Thank you.”
Cheng Siyu gave her usual thanks and got into the car.
“Did your little girlfriend come by just now?” Xi You’s focus was still on Ji Yun. “Did she come to ask for a reconciliation?”
Thinking of that stack of photos, a recovered Cheng Siyu teased, “She came to show me photos of you with other women.”
“Tsk, ask her if she needs more? I have plenty here.” Xi You glanced at Cheng Siyu’s expression. Seeing no unusual reaction, she said frankly:
“Are you jealous? I haven’t seen you look jealous yet.”
“Hmm… if you want to see it, I can perform it for you,” Cheng Siyu replied.
She had never been in a proper relationship. In her previous life, even when Ji Yun’s scandals reached her ears, she had turned a deaf ear—in Ji Yun’s words, it was what she deserved.
In her previous life, she didn’t understand why it was “deserved”; she only thought it was her own character flaw. Later, she understood that jealousy is a form of possessiveness, an indication of caring.
“No need. Rather than seeing you jealous, I prefer the way you look when you’re blushing.”
