After Rebirth, I Became My Ex's "White Moonlight" - Chapter 51
Cheng Siyu recalled that Qi Yan had seemingly headed toward the balcony just moments ago. She walked in that direction and, upon pushing open the glass balcony door, saw the silhouettes of Xi You and Qi Yan.
“She doesn’t blame you,” Xi You’s voice drifted over.
“I know. It’s because she doesn’t blame me that I feel so miserable,” Qi Yan replied, her voice tinged with a weary listlessness as she let out a bitter laugh.
The sound of the glass door opening drew their attention.
“Sister Yan, Xiao You is crying and looking for you,” Cheng Siyu informed her truthfully.
“Okay, thank you.”
Hearing Cheng Siyu’s words, Qi Yan smoothed her disheveled hair and walked back inside. Cheng Siyu stood in place, watching her retreating back; she opened her mouth as if to say something, but the words wouldn’t come out.
“Are you sad? There’s no need to be.” Xi You took hold of her wrist, skillfully searching for that necklace. “You’ve gotten thinner.”
“I’m not sad, just… it’s a pity,” Cheng Siyu sighed, not pulling her hand away. Whether it was Jiang Shizi and Qi Yan, or Qi Yan and He Wuyou, it all felt tragic.
“If people are destined to be together, why worry about a temporary separation? They will meet again eventually, won’t they?”
Having said this, Xi You kissed the back of her hand just as she had during their second meeting. “Take us, for example. From the first time I saw you, I knew we would meet again.”
“The first time,” Cheng Siyu murmured. “At the school?”
“Yes. Even if you hadn’t come to film the show, I would have found you.” Xi You’s deep, gentle voice made Cheng Siyu’s heart itch slightly, but she said nothing.
When the two walked back to the filming set, He Wuyou was still in Qi Yan’s arms. She had stopped crying but was still sobbing rhythmically. “Mama, Mama don’t leave me… Mama.”
Ji Yun, who was sitting next to the mother and daughter, cast her gaze toward Cheng Siyu and Xi You. Her eyes lingered on the similar bracelets on their wrists, and her expression instantly darkened.
She walked straight toward them, grabbed Cheng Siyu’s hand, and led her to a corner.
“Why are you walking with her again?”
Ji Yun’s tone was full of dissatisfaction, but because she was mindful that the bruises on Cheng Siyu’s body hadn’t fully healed, her actions were limited to interrogation.
“I just ran into her when I went to call Qi Yan,” Cheng Siyu explained nonchalantly.
“Then what’s with your bracelets?” Ji Yun lifted Cheng Siyu’s left hand, but the moment she saw the un-faded bruises on her arm, a flash of pity crossed her eyes.
“It’s just a common style. It’s a coincidence we bought the same one,” Cheng Siyu said, ignoring the pain in her arm as she struggled to pull her hand back.
As Cheng Siyu’s arm moved, the bracelet swayed, the gemstones on it flashing blindingly. Ji Yun asked again, “Then where is the one I gave you?”
“I put it away,” Cheng Siyu used an excuse to brush her off. Ji Yun, however, seemed to snap. In a fit of inexplicable anger, she violently tore the bracelet off Cheng Siyu’s wrist.
Cheng Siyu’s wrist was rubbed raw and red by the friction, but Ji Yun said dismissively, “I accidentally tore it off. I’ll get you a new one later.”
With that, she left, leaving only her retreating back. The broken necklace fell to the ground with a “tang” sound.
Faced with her sudden outburst of rage, Cheng Siyu seemed long accustomed to it. Just as she was about to pick up the necklace from the ground, her phone let out a “ding.”
“Don’t pick it up. I’ll give you another one next time.”
The sender wasn’t Ji Yun; it was Xi You. Cheng Siyu looked toward the distance and met Xi You’s gaze. Clearly, the scene of their dispute had been witnessed by her.
The second half of the program began. Due to the incident during the break, He Wuyou had cried herself to sleep and was resting in a stroller, so she did not appear.
The harmony between Ji Yun and Cheng Siyu from the first half had vanished, replaced by a sword-drawn, bow-bent tension.
However, Cheng Siyu felt no panic. She understood Ji Yun’s possessive jealousy; giving her the cold shoulder right now would do no harm. Furthermore, she no longer possessed the mindset of her past life, where she loved Ji Yun to the point of losing herself.
Taking this opportunity to clear their relationship was for the best.
After another video finished playing, the camera turned to Cheng Siyu, who was currently tying a ponytail for Li Enyu, who stood in front of her.
Seeing the camera pointed at her, Li Enyu’s face flushed slightly, and she instinctively tried to turn away.
“Wait, it’s not finished yet,” Cheng Siyu’s gentle voice said. Immediately after, Li Enyu felt a tightening on the right side of her head as a braid appeared.
“Thank you, sister.”
Only after Li Enyu gave a sweet thank-you and ran off did Cheng Siyu realize that everyone’s gaze was fixed on them. She gave an awkward smile.
At this point, the host began to move the process forward again.
“We just saw the lifestyle of the Qi family from the video. However, we also noticed that during this period, with the company of both parents, many things have begun to change.”
Seeing the camera turn back to the host, Cheng Siyu withdrew her smile and took a sip of water from a paper cup on the table.
When the recording ended, Cheng Siyu was asked to sing a duet with Ji Yun—the familiar song, “Listen to Me.”
Carrying her resentment, Ji Yun’s performance was naturally far from perfect; she frequently missed or messed up the lyrics. Being suddenly interrupted, Cheng Siyu—who wasn’t a perfectionist—simply sang along and helped cover for her.
She knew the program would be pitch-corrected after broadcast, so she just followed Ji Yun’s rhythm.
Throughout this, Ji Yun’s eyes seemed to be deliberately avoiding her, never once making eye contact. Without her gaze, Cheng Siyu felt a rare sense of ease.
“I hope you open your eyes and look at me, instead of closing them just to listen to me.”
As Cheng Siyu hummed the final line, the song came to an end.
Once the recording was over, Ji Yun ignored Cheng Siyu entirely. After removing her makeup, she walked away quickly with Qi Yan. Cheng Siyu didn’t chase after her, merely watching her back with a calm expression.
Ji Yun needed to grow up, too.
“Your little lover seems angry,” Xi You said, appearing beside her at some unknown moment.
Cheng Siyu said indifferently, “Let her be. She’s twenty years old.”
“It’s a real pity; I spent a long time picking out that bracelet.”
Xi You took hold of her wrist, her fingertips stroking the red, rubbed skin several times. Cheng Siyu felt a sensation like an electric shock traveling from Xi You’s fingertips and instinctively pulled her hand back.
“Do you have planned this afternoon?”
“Yes, I have to… go shoot a commercial,” Cheng Siyu answered honestly.
“What about tonight?”
“Nothing special, but…”
“I think I can be clearer: I want to go on a date with you,” Xi You’s voice came through, just as flirtatious as it had been that night.
Her direct words made Cheng Siyu swallow the excuse that had been stuck in her throat. Moreover, she had already forgotten what she was going to say.
“Tonight is fine,” Cheng Siyu replied, regaining her senses.
“Good. What do you like to eat?”
Cheng Siyu wondered if it was her imagination, but there was a powerful aura about Xi You that made her instinctively take a few steps back.
“Anything is fine.”
“Alright, I’ll pick you up tonight then. What kind of car do you want me to drive?”
“Anything,” Cheng Siyu whispered a small caution, “Just… don’t drive that sports car.”
Since her shows and dramas had aired, the number of entertainment reporters and fans around her had increased sharply. Besides, if someone saw her, they might think she was being kept by some big shot, which would only bring trouble to the company.
“I’ll listen to you.” After saying this, before Cheng Siyu could react, Xi You dropped a light kiss on her cheek.
A flush of red bloomed on Cheng Siyu’s face, but it was gone in an instant. She had already succumbed once; she didn’t have the capital to afford another mistake. It was enough to keep things on the surface.
So, she composed herself and awkwardly returned the kiss on Xi You’s cheek.
“Actually, your voice that night sounded even better than you’re singing.”
Xi You took the opportunity to whisper this in her ear. Cheng Siyu froze on the spot. After steadying herself for a few seconds, she replied:
“You flatter me. It was only because your technique was good.”
In the afternoon, after eating lunch in the car, Cheng Siyu boarded the vehicle heading to the commercial shoot.
Ji Yun seemed to be sulking on purpose; their WeChat messages remained frozen at those from the morning. At that time, their conversation had been full of deep affection, but in just a few short hours, the relationship had dropped to the freezing point.
When Cheng Siyu exited WeChat and opened Weibo, she found the hashtag #Ji Yun Little Ones Recording# on the trending list. Clicking in and scanning through, she saw Ji Yun’s promotional post for the show. She noticed that Ji Yun had been so meticulous as to @ even the stagehands, yet she had pointedly excluded her and Xi You.
No—she had originally included her, but after the recording ended, she had deliberately edited her name out.
Anyone with eyes could see something was wrong. In the past, Ji Yun and Cheng Siyu’s Weibo interactions were always harmonious and lively. Now, fans in the comments were beginning to speculate whether they had quarreled on the show or if they were tearing each other apart over resources.
Seeing this, Cheng Siyu made no response. She knew Ji Yun was just throwing a tantrum, and the production team was likely fueling the fire.
Now, a crowd of gossip-seekers was camped under the show’s Weibo, expressing curiosity about what exactly happened that morning.
Cheng Siyu found it boring and turned off her screen.
“Sister Siyu, are you in a bad mood today?” Lin Zhizhi, sitting next to her, asked cautiously.
“Am I?” Cheng Siyu frowned and replied, “Maybe it’s because I didn’t sleep well last night.”
“Um, well…” Lin Zhizhi hesitated for a moment before speaking as if she had made a decision. “Did you fight with the boss’s daughter? I saw her grab your hand. Is she using her status to bully you?”
Lin Zhizhi spoke indignantly, as if she were ready to go out and fight Ji Yun the next second. Cheng Siyu was stunned, then gave a calm smile in response.
“We did have a fight, but she didn’t bully me. Don’t go doing anything you shouldn’t just to protect me.”
“I understand, Sister Siyu. Can I quietly ask why you two fought?”
Lin Zhizhi suddenly looked at Cheng Siyu with shining eyes. Cheng Siyu suddenly felt that this might have been her true purpose all along.
“It was nothing much. She thinks I’m cheating; I said I wasn’t, she didn’t believe me, so we fought.”
There was always a sense of lightness in Cheng Siyu’s words; even significant matters sounded like trivial, everyday occurrences when she spoke of them.
“Even so, she shouldn’t have gotten physical. Your hand is scraped.”
Hearing Lin Zhizhi’s voice, Cheng Siyu finally noticed that the skin on her wrist, where the bracelet had been torn off, had been peeled back, leaving a small wound.
“Maybe I’ve just had a run of bad luck lately.”
