- Chapter 4 - Denying and Erasing What They Used to Be
The moment Jiang Guansheng stepped into the private dining room, the staff from Chiyin teamed up to trip him, forcing him face-down onto the cold floor.
He couldn’t budge an inch.
Xuning was still trembling as she recounted what had happened.
“Xuning, was it? Didn’t you look at me first back there?” Jiang Guansheng sneered from the floor. “I assumed you were eager to walk one of your company’s loyal customers through product usage. I had no idea your company treated clients with such hostility.”
Xuning remembered now. When she was closing the door earlier, her eyes had accidentally met a man’s gaze outside.
But she was face-blind; she hadn’t recognized him.
The female police officer was about to gently comfort Xuning, but the young girl didn’t need comforting. She whirled around to confront the suspect directly. “Are you out of your mind?! I just happened to look up while closing the door! How on earth did you manage to twist that into some twisted fantasy?!”
Jiang Guansheng offered a slimy smile. “Then why did you happen to walk over to the door right as I was passing by?”
“You—!” Xuning stared at him, her eyes wide with shock. She had never met anyone so brazenly shameless.
Jiang Guansheng shifted his gaze to the male officer. “Officer, every word coming out of this girl’s mouth is a lie. Do you really think someone from the Jiang family has any reason to lie to you? I’d advise you to unbind me right now. My grandfather and my eldest sister are both here today.”
Inside the private room, the Chiyin employees glared furiously at him. Outside, a massive crowd of Chiyin staff had already gathered.
To celebrate the group’s recent public listing, the Chairwoman had handed out a five-thousand-yuan dining allowance to every full-time employee. Rather than holding a formal corporate banquet, she had let everyone dine out wherever they pleased.
The employees hadn’t held back…they had chosen Chunyi, the most expensive restaurant in the area.
Today, Chunyi was packed to capacity, with ninety percent of its patrons being Chiyin employees. Hearing the commotion, they had flooded the hallway to back up their colleague, blocking the corridor so tightly that even the restaurant’s owner and manager were drawn to the scene.
The owner stood beside Gu Lingyi, wearing a forced, apologetic smile. Gu Lingyi, however, walked straight up to Jiang Guansheng, looking down at him with icy disdain.
“Which branch of the Jiang family do you belong to?”
With seven or eight people pinning his face to the ground, even the two officers couldn’t easily untangle the mess. His voice came out muffled and slurred.
“Ha, Chairwoman Gu, stop pretending! How could you possibly not know? You’re not actually going to take your employee’s word over mine, are you? My grandfather and eldest sister will be here any second. You’d better keep things fair.”
“You want fairness, do you?”
Gu Lingyi let out a soft laugh, her stunning features laced with an effortless, intoxicating charm. The man on the floor stared, momentarily dazed. Xuning instinctively stepped forward, wanting to block the creep’s eyes from soiling her boss, but Manager Yan caught her by the arm and gently shook her head.
“Then let me summarize the demands of our valued Chiyin client, Mr. Jiang Guansheng,” Gu Lingyi said smoothly, “and we can let everyone judge the fairness for themselves.”
“That’s more like it!” Jiang Guansheng spat.
“Mr. Jiang here is a thoughtful, loving boyfriend,” Gu Lingyi began, her voice carrying across the crowd. “He bought Chiyin’s latest product for his girlfriend, hoping to give her the ultimate climax. However, after using it, his girlfriend failed to reach an orgasm. By sheer coincidence, Mr. Jiang bumped into a Chiyin employee and demanded our staff step in to solve his girlfriend’s… inability to reach climax. Tell me, Mr. Jiang…is my summary objective and accurate enough for you?”
“Completely accurate! But that little brat from your company defamed—”
“Before Chiyin accepts this particular after-sales request, I’d like to ask Mr. Jiang a single question.”
A glint of smug triumph flashed in Jiang Guansheng’s eyes. He knew it…with his grandfather and eldest sister’s formidable reputations, this woman named Gu wouldn’t dare mess with the Jiang family.
Even with his face smashed against the floor, he blustered, “Ask away!”
Gu Lingyi looked down at him. “When you personally take the field, Mr. Jiang… is your girlfriend able to reach climax?”
Perhaps he hadn’t expected such a sharp, invasive question. Jiang Guansheng froze, uncomfortable memories flashing through his mind. His face instantly turned an ugly shade of pale.
Yet, refusing to lose face for the Jiang family, he opened his mouth to lie and say yes. But before he could speak, Gu Lingyi dropped another bombshell in a deceptively light tone.
“Think carefully before you answer, Mr. Jiang. As a loyal customer, you should know that if the facts you provide are inaccurate, Chiyin reserves the right to reject your service request entirely. Furthermore, Chiyin Group will formally file a lawsuit in court charging you with ’premeditated sexual harassment of a Chiyin employee under the guise of an inappropriate and absurd customer service claim,’ demanding a fully public trial and report.”
Jiang Guansheng choked, caught in a humiliating trap, unsure whether to answer or keep quiet.
Gu Lingyi paused for three seconds before continuing calmly.
“Alright. I understand your silence, Mr. Jiang, and I appreciate your honesty. I believe I have a clear picture of the situation now. Officers, please record this accurately.
The sequence of events is quite simple and has nothing to do with Chiyin’s product support. It is purely a case of Mr. Jiang Guansheng, driven by his own sexual impotence, retaliating against a Chiyin employee and committing a premeditated act of sexual harassment.”
Sexually impotent.
Impotent.
Pore…
Gasps erupted from the surrounding crowd as people covered their mouths, whispering and pointing at Jiang Guansheng. He didn’t even hear the last two sentences…the words “sexually impotent” echoed in his ears, sending him into an absolute frenzy.
How dare Gu Lingyi?!
How dare she publicly declare a man impotent in front of a massive crowd?!
Did this woman have no shame at all?!
Many of the veteran Chiyin employees present had been with Chairwoman Gu since the company’s inception eight years ago. They knew her all too well…she had no intention of letting Jiang Guansheng off the hook.
Her refusal to let it slide meant two things: first, making sure he faced the full extent of the law; second, ensuring his complete social death in the court of public opinion.
To deal with a shameless scoundrel like this, reasoning was useless. You had to strike where it hurt most, magnifying his deepest insecurities until he became a laughingstock to the entire world.
A senior employee immediately chimed in, playing along seamlessly.
“Oh my goodness, Jiang Guansheng from the Jiang family is impotent?!”
“Who even is Jiang Guansheng? Is he the biological brother of Director Jiang from Zhugao High School?”
“Director Jiang’s real brother isn’t this guy! I’ve never even heard of him. He’s probably just some nobody from a distant side branch, using Old Master Jiang and Director Jiang’s names to harass young women.”
“What a explosive scandal! It must be miserable to be his girlfriend. Not only is he impotent, but he can’t even figure out how to use a toy! Hahaha!”
The crowd burst into a mix of wild laughter and mocking pity. Even the restaurant staff and other non-Chiyin guests joined in, eagerly devouring the drama alongside the Chiyin employees.
Before long, news of Jiang Guansheng’s impotence was spreading like wildfire across local social circles.
“Tsk, tsk. So Mr. Jiang can’t even carry on the family line? What good is a man who can’t lay an egg?”
The person who uttered that long, theatrical sigh wasn’t even a Chiyin employee, but the Chiyin staff laughed so hard they began hiccuping, chiming in to agree enthusiastically.
In an instant, the hallway outside the room was filled with brutal mockery that drove Jiang Guansheng insane with rage. His eyes burned with pure malice as he glared at Gu Lingyi.
Every drop of this humiliation would be pinned on her head!
“Shameless! Absolutely shameless!”
“A mere woman, discussing a gentleman’s private affairs in broad daylight…you’ve disgraced your ancestors!”
An authoritative voice suddenly boomed from the back of the crowd. A path was forcibly cleared through the onlookers as dozens of people, flanked by tall male bodyguards, strode into the room.
Jiang Guansheng immediately began screaming for help.
“Grandpa! Eldest Sister! Dad! These women are framing me! And that Gu Lingyi is deliberately out to get me! Please, Grandpa, Sister, Dad…you have to stand up for me!”
Leading the group was an elderly man leaning on a cane. His hair was silver but impeccably groomed, and his voice resonated with deep authority.
“Grandpa believes you, of course.”
Without even asking what had happened, he raised a hand, gesturing for the bodyguards to step forward and unbind his grandson.
“I advise Old Master Jiang to think carefully before doing that,” Gu Lingyi said, taking a step forward to shield her colleagues behind her.
The bodyguards hesitated, glancing nervously back at the old man.
The owner of Chunyi quickly stepped up to stand alongside Gu Lingyi, wearing the polished, flawless smile of an experienced businessman.
“If I may inform our distinguished guests, to protect the safety of our clients and staff, Chunyi has security cameras installed right outside the women’s restroom. We have clear, undisputed video footage of Mr. Jiang Guansheng entering and exiting the women’s facility, capturing his face perfectly.”
Old Master Jiang let out a cold, dismissive snort. “My grandson simply walked into the wrong door. A real man acts uprightly…if he walked into the wrong room, he walked out. Is that really worth calling the police over? Making a fuss over nothing…utterly lacking in decorum!”
He struck his cane heavily against the floor.
Behind him, the dozens of Jiang family members chimed in one after another, echoing his words to defend Jiang Guansheng.
Gu Lingyi’s eyes shifted away from the old man, meeting the gaze of the woman Jiang Guansheng had called his “Eldest Sister.”
The woman was no longer wearing the mint-green cheongsam from the He family estate earlier that evening. Instead, she was dressed in a magnolia-white traditional cheongsam that brushed her ankles. Its high collar was buttoned all the way to the top, wrapping tightly around her slender neck.
The outfit suited her exquisitely, making her naturally fair skin look as warm and smooth as polished jade.
Amidst the noisy, chaotic private room, time seemed to freeze between the two of them. The air was sucked out of the space, muting the surrounding noise. Gu Lingyi felt her heart skip a beat, pounding in a rapid, erratic rhythm.
Yet, a single, icy sentence from the woman instantly dragged her from a dreamlike paradise down into a dark abyss, leaving her aching all over.
“Chairwoman Gu, a word in private, if you please.”
Jiang Yanqing made a refined gesture of invitation. Her expression remained cool and distant as she stood steadfastly beside Old Master Jiang, making her allegiance painfully clear.
A boundary as wide as a river lay between them.
“In private?”
Gu Lingyi let out a cold, bitter laugh. Even with a frosty expression, her stunning, fox-like features remained captivatingly beautiful. The alluring aura she carried drew subtle, lingering glances from several of the Jiang family men.
“I don’t think that’s necessary. Whatever you have to say, say it right here in front of the officers. Don’t you agree, Director Jiang?”
She deliberately placed a heavy emphasis on the title ‘Director Jiang.’
Old Master Jiang slammed his cane against the floor once more, pointing it directly at Gu Lingyi.
“Gu Lingyi, you’re a woman…how long do you intend to keep making a scene?! You don’t even know the meaning of the word ‘shame’! The Gu family’s reputation has been completely trashed by you! My eldest granddaughter was kind enough to offer you a way to save face, and you dare reject her?!”
Gu Lingyi didn’t bother giving the old man the time of day. She stood firm in front of her employees like an unshakeable mountain.
Those fox-like eyes, usually brimming with warmth and charm, were now fixed entirely on Jiang Yanqing, staring deeply into those ink-dark eyes, searching desperately for something.
The two officers had already clearly and objectively recounted the entire incident to the Jiang family.
Jiang Yanqing was smart enough to know that her cousin’s guilt was undeniable. There was no room for denial or turning things around…the proper thing to do was simply hand him over to the police and be done with it.
Yet, Gu Lingyi was left disappointed.
In those dark, watery eyes, there was nothing but flat indifference.
The woman stood beside Old Master Jiang with an elegant, flawless posture, her hand still raised in a polite invitation. Her expression was completely unruffled. She offered no reaction to her grandfather’s harsh outburst, appearing to silently validate his words.
Opening her lips slightly, she repeated in the same detached tone:
“Chairwoman Gu, please.”
She was still choosing to deny and erase what had happened, all for the sake of her family.
Eight years ago, Jiang Yanqing had done the exact same thing…denying and erasing their relationship, turning around to become the director of Zhugao High School, and banning students from same-sex families from attending.
She lived only for the interests of the Jiang family.
She had never changed.
The misunderstandings between these two run deep…
