- Chapter 3 - Do You Know Jiang Yanqing?
The nanny van left Zhuyu High School and headed toward the headquarters of Chiyin Group, situated in the heart of the capital’s most bustling commercial district.
By 7:00 PM, the lights were still on in the top-floor chairman’s office.
“Alright, I won’t push for a massive increase in your production output right away, but the quality must remain top-notch. My colleagues have already sent over samples of the He family’s new medical grade silicone. Study them carefully.”
Gu Lingyi hung up the phone and calmly browsed the new proposal.
Even while buried in routine work, her fox-like eyes shimmered with a subtle, radiant charm, as if she were deeply in love with the job itself.
The dynamic display on her screen scrolled automatically, tracking the subtle movements of her eyes.
Yan Ke walked in holding two file folders. “He Qun is a ticking time bomb. Have you figured out how to handle him?”
At its core, a business partnership relied on trust. Since He Qun could betray those who needed his trust the most, he could betray anyone. He was no longer fit to be a partner. Chiyin would gradually phase out its collaboration with He Corporation until they fully pulled out.
Just as the words left Yan Ke’s mouth, her gaze fell upon the new proposal on the screen.
“Gu, you truly are my savior.”
“Ready to sign?” Gu Lingyi glanced at her from the corner of her eye.
Yan Ke spread open the documents, and Gu Lingyi signed them with a few swift strokes of her pen.
Chiyin didn’t have a toxic crunch culture; they were only working late tonight because they had spent the entire afternoon stuck at the He household, putting them behind schedule.
Having wrapped up their tasks, the two headed out to dinner at a private kitchen where they had reservations.
It was nearby…just a short five-minute walk away.
Business at Chunyi Private Kitchen was booming tonight. The back-of-house staff…prep cooks, line chefs…were so absorbed in their culinary world that they had completely lost track of time.
Passing by the open kitchen, the two paused to watch for a moment. Yan Ke suddenly chuckled. “Those are probably our colleagues down there. You handed out such generous dining allowances to everyone…of course they’re going to eat well! Every reputable private kitchen within a five-kilometer radius is packed to the brim tonight.”
Suddenly, the door of a nearby private room slid open. Over a dozen Chiyin employees inside turned around in unison.
“Chairman Gu! President Yan! Would you like to join us?!”
“Enjoy your meal, everyone! Yan Ke and I already have a table reserved, so we won’t intrude.”
Chairman Gu’s soft, elegant smile felt like a warm spring breeze. Looking into those captivated, fox-like eyes, the employees couldn’t help but blush.
“Chairman Gu, President Yan, can we take a quick photo with you before you go?”
“Haha, look at you…you just want a picture with Chairman Gu!”
“President Yan~!”
The timid employee who had finally plucked up the courage to ask was tease-prompted by Yan Ke. Blushing even harder, she stomped her foot and hid behind her coworkers, who laughed while playfully protecting her and poking fun at Yan Ke.
“President Yan, stop picking on the junior staff!”
Yan Ke burst into laughter and stepped into the private room with Gu Lingyi to take a group photo.
Each private room in Chunyi featured a unique backdrop painting. This room showcased a stunning mountain landscape. Gu Lingyi stood right in the center of the crowd, outshining the art itself…her breezy, effortless charisma adding a touch of bold freedom to the solemn mountain scenery.
The employees blushed looking at Chairman Gu, but then again, except for President Yan…who had grown up with her…who could look at such a captivating beauty without blushing?
Thrilled as they were, they maintained a respectful social distance during the photo.
After Gu Lingyi and Yan Ke left, the employees huddled together, admiring the photo on their phones and swooning over it with pure appreciation.
For a moment, they even forgot to eat, entirely mesmerized by the picture. It wasn’t until a sudden commotion sounded outside that they realized they had been so caught up looking at the photo that no one had remembered to close the room door after seeing off the chairman and president.
“Sister, you came home later than the scheduled time today. Grandpa, Grandma, Dad, Mom, and our aunt and uncle are all waiting for you. How could you let our elders wait like this? So utterly shameless.”
“Indeed, Yanqing. Look at your younger brother…he’s always on time. There’s no reason to keep your elders waiting.”
“Failing your etiquette is one thing, but how are you supposed to set an example for the students at Zhuyu High? How will you serve your future husband’s family? Going out like this only embarrasses the Jiang family.”
As the group walked past the open private room, the Chiyin employees snapped out of it and rushed to close the door.
The one closing it was the shy, blushing junior employee from earlier. She glanced outside and unexpectedly locked eyes with one of the men in the group. Ignoring it, she shut the door and went back to admiring the photo with her coworkers.
“Was that the Jiang family passing by just now?”
“Yeah, and they even addressed their eldest daughter by name.”
“Eldest Miss Jiang… Board Director Jiang? The board director from Zhuyu High?”
“Yep, that’s the one.”
Zhuyu High…a school packed with absolute lunatics.
Even though most Chiyin employees were heterosexual, it didn’t change the fact that in their eyes, the world’s top-tier high school was run by a bunch of unhinged people.
And the head of those unhinged people was none other than Zhuyu’s board director, Jiang Yanqing…a woman whose striking beauty was in no way inferior to Chairman Gu’s.
Same-sex marriage had been fully legalized worldwide thirty years ago. Even strictly religious countries had completely opened up, and no one singled out homosexuality as a topic of debate anymore.
Yet, after Jiang Yanqing took over as the board director of Zhuyu High, the school aggressively championed heterosexual marriage above all else, refusing to admit students from same-sex families.
They had seen schools filter applicants by academic performance, family assets, gender, or physical health, but it was a first to see a school gatekeep based on sexual orientation.
It was as if being heterosexual was some grand badge of honor.
After washing her hands, Yan Ke returned to their private room.
“I think I just saw members of the Jiang family.”
Gu Lingyi sat back with her eyelids half-draped, the outer corners of her eyes tilted upward. She didn’t even open her eyes at the sound of the door opening, merely giving a soft “Mm” as she leaned lazily against the sofa.
This woman had a knack for radiating a relaxed, at-home vibe no matter where she was.
Yan Ke sat down across from her. “By the way, I haven’t had the chance to ask…do you know Jiang Yanqing?”
The table was spread with a lavish feast. After asking, Yan Ke dug straight in. Having grown up with Gu Lingyi since they were toddlers, she was used to her friend’s effortlessly lazy demeanor.
With her head down eating, Yan Ke missed the slight flutter of her best friend’s thick, dark eyelashes.
Gu Lingyi countered calmly, “Who doesn’t?”
Yan Ke thought about it and nodded in agreement. “Fair point.”
The private room fell quiet as Yan Ke ate without making a sound.
Gu Lingyi kept her eyes closed, but a pair of cold, deep, ink-black eyes lingered in her mind, refusing to fade away.
In the central rearview mirror, my fox-like eyes occupied the far-right corner, offering a clear view of the second row.
I subconsciously ignored Old Man Li in the side-rear seat, my gaze fixing on the person sitting directly behind me.
Her expression was cold and detached, dropping the temperature in the van by several degrees. Without a trace of emotion, she just stared right back at me.
At that moment, I also caught Yan Ke’s concerned look and her incessant chattering.
“Is your family out of that patented traumatic injury liniment? If you are, I’ll have someone send some over. Get your elder sister to rub it in for you…poor thing…”
I gave a quiet response while Yan Ke babbled on.
The other three teachers had their eyes closed, but Jiang Yanqing’s cold stare in the rearview mirror never wavered.
Was Yan Ke being too loud for her?
Or was talking not allowed inside the vehicle? Perhaps staying as still as a statue was the only way to fit this woman’s rigid rules.
Fine then.
I grabbed a clean rag from my side, balled it up, and tossed it backward…landing it squarely inside Yan Ke’s open mouth.
After that, silence restored itself inside the van.
Those cold, distant eyes never looked over again.
Through the mirror, I could still see her lightly closed eyes and her elegant, posture-perfect seating position with her legs crossed.
“Business is booming today, yet the food still maintains its usual high quality.”
“All the dishes in our private room were personally cooked by the owner.”
Yan Ke was thoroughly satisfied with her meal and slightly surprised to hear that the owner himself had cooked for them. Gu Lingyi put on her suit jacket, preparing to leave with her.
“Your family hasn’t called you once today. Auntie Gu, Auntie Qu, and your older sisters… they aren’t brewing up some kind of storm, are they?”
“Yan Ke, with an imagination like that, working as Chiyin’s president is really wasting your talent.”
Yan Ke burst out laughing. “Even if you get kicked out of the house, you own plenty of properties. There’s nowhere you can’t stay.”
“You exaggerate.”
Laughing and chatting, the two prepared to leave Chunyi. As they passed by their colleagues’ private room, they saw the door wide open.
The shy junior employee from earlier was now teary-eyed, furiously tapping on her phone screen with an angry expression.
“Hello, police? I want to report an act of sexual harassment! At Chunyi Private Kitchen in the commercial district. Please dispatch officers immediately!”
At the same time, an enraged male voice barked out, “You little brat, don’t you dare talk nonsense! Did I even touch you?!”
The man was pinned face-down to the floor by several Chiyin employees, his face smooshed against the ground.
Chiyin maintained extremely strict standards for employee character and conduct throughout the interview, internship, and full-time hiring process. Because of this, literally every single one of their official employees was female.
Seven or eight women pressed the man down firmly. Another employee rushed inside holding something. “I got the hemp rope!” She paused briefly upon seeing Chairman Gu and President Yan, but without wasting a second, she handed the rope to her coworkers.
In a flash, they bound the man tight until he couldn’t budge. He glared furiously at the softly weeping junior employee.
The police arrived swiftly in the commercial district, and the situation quickly became clear.
The junior employee, Xu Ning, had gone to the restroom when this man…Jiang Guansheng…mysteriously tailed her. Before she could lock the door, he forced his way in, trying to follow her into the stall.
Xu Ning instinctively tried to turn back and run, but Jiang Guansheng blocked the exit.
He was tall and built, and Xu Ning didn’t want to engage in a physical confrontation. But then, the man pulled a small box from his inner jacket pocket.
“Don’t run off! You work at Chiyin, right? I’m one of your loyal customers, and I need a little after-sales assistance.”
He opened the box to reveal one of Chiyin’s latest products…a sleek, pink, insertable vibrator.
A low buzzing sound echoed through the restroom.
“My girlfriend can never squirt…she just can’t seem to reach an orgasm. Your product is useless! Maybe I’m just using it wrong? Why don’t you show me how to make it work… huh?”
He raised his eyebrows in what he thought was a smooth gesture, holding the pink device as he stepped closer.
Xu Ning was terrified, her whole body trembling. At the critical moment, she recalled the safety protocols outlined in the employee handbook from her onboarding training.
As Jiang Guansheng closed in with a smug grin, Xu Ning seized an opening and bolted toward the exit. In a frantic attempt to catch her, Jiang Guansheng chased after her as if playing a game of tag, pressing the vibrating pink object right against the small of her back.
However, he hadn’t expected the sudden vibration to make the young girl run even faster.
Although Chunyi was packed tonight, the venue was massive, with distinct pathways leading to different private rooms, making accidental encounters rare.
Emboldened and fearless, Jiang Guansheng pursued her all the way to the room. Knowing that the room was full of Chiyin employees…who were all women…he didn’t hesitate for a second and barged right in.
