After Mistaking My Stepsister’s First Love - Chapter 57
When she saw the scene before her, Ye Wenjin wasn’t sure whether she should step forward.
Mainly—she was afraid of disrupting Zhou Wuhua’s performance.
The group of them stopped in tacit agreement, pausing to watch the spectacle unfolding not far away.
The atmosphere was intense, largely because Zhou Wuhua’s presence was so overwhelming that even though her opponents outnumbered her, not a single one of them could get a word in edgewise.
Today, Ye Wenjin truly witnessed what it meant to “debate a room full of scholars.”
Watching Zhou Wuhua dominate the scene, Rong Yunjuan looked dazed and uncertain, hardly able to believe it was really her.
The others had seen her in action before, but clearly, Zhou Wuhua hadn’t been giving her all back then. Now, they were all stunned into silence.
Meanwhile, the sound of the argument continued to draw more onlookers. Perhaps because the crowd had grown too large, the expressions of the opposing group shifted repeatedly until, finally unable to take it anymore, they grabbed whatever was at hand and prepared to fight.
Seeing the situation take a dangerous turn, Ye Wenjin’s expression changed. Exchanging a glance with Rong Yunshu, the two of them rushed forward simultaneously, parting the crowd and abruptly inserting themselves between the two sides, blocking their line of sight.
Interrupted by the sudden intervention, the leader of the opposing group glared at them with hostility. “Who are you? Mind your own business.”
Hearing this, Ye Wenjin’s fingers curled slightly—she couldn’t help but feel a little afraid.
Having never been in a physical altercation before, her entire body stiffened. But with the situation escalating, she didn’t have time to overthink it. Her body moved before her mind could catch up, and she found herself standing between them.
Now, under the scrutiny of the entire crowd, Ye Wenjin felt her social anxiety flaring up.
Sweating nervously on the inside but keeping her composure outwardly, she spoke slowly, “Let’s talk this out calmly. A group fight would escalate things—do you really want to risk getting detained?”
The leader’s face darkened, but before she could retort, one of her friends tugged at her sleeve. After a brief, hushed exchange, the woman’s expression remained hostile but softened slightly.
Ye Wenjin noticed this and felt a little more at ease.
However, the other side wasn’t as ready to back down as she’d hoped. Instead, they stubbornly insisted that Zhou Wuhua’s words had caused them “severe psychological trauma” and demanded compensation.
Zhou Wuhua’s face paled, her fists clenching tightly.
If compensation was demanded, there was no way she could afford it…
“Compensation? Pah! How shameless can you be, asking for compensation? Let’s call the police! We’ll settle this at the station and let them decide who’s at fault!”
Chu Yunsheng crossed her arms, her face full of disdain.
When Ye Wenjin glanced over, she even caught her rolling her eyes—clearly exasperated.
So what exactly had happened?
Ye Wenjin was utterly confused, but judging by Chu Yunsheng’s expression, it didn’t seem like they had instigated the conflict. Even if they had, Ye Wenjin was certain there had to be a good reason.
She knew Chu Yunsheng and Zhou Wuhua well enough—they would never pick a fight without cause. Most likely, the other side had done something to provoke them.
At that moment, Rong Yunshu leaned in and whispered, “These are the same domineering people I mentioned before.”
Ye Wenjin gave her a surprised look. “What a coincidence?”
Earlier, they’d thought it had nothing to do with them, yet here they were, caught in a situation that clearly wouldn’t end peacefully.
Ye Wenjin opened her mouth but no sound came out.
What on earth is going on here…
While she was speechless, the group of people refused to back down, shouting that they wouldn’t allow anyone to call the police and stubbornly demanding compensation.
Chu Yunsheng wasn’t about to indulge them. She directly pulled out her phone, ready to call the police.
The moment the other side saw this, their expressions changed abruptly, and they rushed forward, trying to snatch the phone from Chu Yunsheng’s hand.
Ye Wenjin was startled and hurriedly moved to intervene when suddenly, a cool, composed voice rang out.
“The police will be here in two minutes. We can all go to the station and talk then.”
In an instant, everyone froze. The scene became eerily silent.
Ye Wenjin blinked and turned her head to see Jian Mo standing there with a calm expression, though a hint of coldness flickered in her eyes.
Sister doesn’t seem to be in a good mood, and her state seems a bit off too.
The thought flashed through Ye Wenjin’s mind before she quickly walked over, her voice laced with concern. “Sister? Are you okay?”
Jian Mo paused slightly, her expression softening gradually. “I’m fine. It’s just not good to keep arguing here—there are too many people.”
Ye Wenjin noticed it too. Without even turning around, she could sense the people around them whispering. She didn’t need to hear to know they were talking about them.
Frowning, she felt a pang of worry about Jian Mo’s state. Something about her just didn’t seem right.
Or rather, Jian Mo had been acting a bit off earlier, and now, whether it was because of the crowd or not, there was an unmistakable trace of irritation in her expression.
Ye Wenjin guessed it had something to do with her strange condition and lost any desire to prolong the confrontation, wanting only to resolve it quickly.
But when she turned around and saw the leader of the opposing group staring unwaveringly at Jian Mo, her brows knitted tightly together.
The way that person was looking at Jian Mo made her deeply uncomfortable.
Admiration, possessiveness, and something else that made her skin crawl.
Alarm bells rang in her head, and Ye Wenjin immediately stepped in front of Jian Mo, shielding her. Her expression turned icy, and for a moment, she almost resembled Jian Mo.
“It seems you all would prefer to discuss this at the police station.”
The other side snapped out of their daze, quickly pulling back their inexplicably frozen leader and retreating from the scene.
If their boss got dragged into the station again, no one would come to bail her out. Rumor had it her family had issued an ultimatum—if she caused trouble one more time, she’d be sent abroad and never allowed to return.
Life overseas wouldn’t be nearly as fun, which was why the boss had promised to lay low for a while.
But somehow, she’d ended up in another conflict today. Before they could even react, the two sides had inexplicably started squaring off.
Once the tension escalated, their damned muscle memory kicked in, and they instinctively began to fight back.
Only this time, they’d bitten off more than they could chew. With so many of them, they still couldn’t out-shout a single person!
How was that fair?!
Forget about losing the argument—now the boss was pulling this stunt again. The moment she saw the way her boss’s gaze lingered on the woman who had appeared later, she understood.
The boss was acting up again!
How were they supposed to handle this? The other party didn’t seem like ordinary people either. She had a bad feeling the boss was about to get into serious trouble.
Watching the group’s retreating figures, Ye Wenjin was utterly baffled, unable to comprehend why they kept changing their minds on a whim.
But it was just as well they left. If they’d actually had to go to the station, it would’ve been a real mood-killer.
Ye Wenjin let out a sigh of relief and asked softly, “Sister, did you really call the police?”
Jian Mo shook her head calmly. “Just scaring them.”
Ye Wenjin couldn’t help but let the corners of her lips curl upward.
With the spectacle over, the crowd dispersed, and the group finally made their way back to the shade of the canopy in one piece. Each reclined on a lounge chair, lying there peacefully.
After a long silence, Ye Wenjin’s voice drifted out faintly, “So… what exactly happened?”
Chu Yunsheng and Zhou Wuhua: “…”
