- After Mistaking My Stepsister’s First Love
- Chapter 56 - A Completely One-Sided Situation
The two of them were gradually walking deeper into the sea. The water had already risen past their thighs, and if they went any further, it would soon reach their waists.
But even waist-deep water could instinctively frighten someone who couldn’t swim.
Moreover, swimming wasn’t the same as diving. When they had gone diving earlier, they had been equipped with gear, and Jian Mo had been by her side the entire time. Besides, diving inherently involved sinking downward, making it slightly easier than swimming.
Now, as Ye Wenjin slowly stepped into the water, her breathing grew slightly rapid when the water reached her chest.
Was this deep enough? Hesitant to go any further, Ye Wenjin furrowed her brows slightly, feeling at a loss.
Swimming definitely couldn’t be done while standing like this, but she had no idea how to even begin!
Just as she was struggling, Jian Mo patted her shoulder.
“Don’t rush, Xiao Jin. Take it slow. Let’s go a little further.”
The spot they were in now would work, but it would be better to go a bit deeper.
Steadying herself, Ye Wenjin slowly inched forward.
Once the water reached the right depth, Jian Mo began explaining the basics of swimming in a gentle tone.
But theory alone wasn’t enough, so after finishing her explanation, Jian Mo wasted no time in guiding Ye Wenjin into practice.
Ye Wenjin couldn’t help but feel nervous at first, but as time passed under Jian Mo’s patient and meticulous instruction, she gradually overcame her fear and focused earnestly on practicing.
The ebb and flow of the seawater buoyed her body, and Ye Wenjin unexpectedly found joy in it. She recalled her diving experience from the day before, and her fear of water diminished even further.
Then, at some point, Ye Wenjin suddenly realized she had swum a considerable distance—and it felt like she had grasped the technique, her movements becoming much smoother.
Delighted, she turned to Jian Mo. “Sis, I think I’m getting the hang of it!”
Jian Mo smiled. “You’re doing great, Xiao Jin.”
Ye Wenjin grinned. “It’s all because you’re such a good teacher!”
She hadn’t expected to learn so quickly.
Her sister was really amazing!
Still, she had only just grasped the basics. If she wanted to swim with ease, she’d need a lot more practice.
With that thought, Ye Wenjin immersed herself in training again.
Time flew by when she was focused, and by the time she stopped, she was so exhausted she could barely lift her fingers.
For once, she felt exhilarated. Though physically drained, her heart was light with happiness.
The dopamine from exercise kept flowing, and Ye Wenjin reveled in the sensation, suddenly thinking—
Maybe she could incorporate swimming into her fitness routine. And in a few days, she’d probably need to lose some weight, so swimming would be perfect for burning off excess energy.
Learning a new skill was always exciting and invigorating, but her body was utterly spent. Without any resistance, she let Jian Mo guide her back to shore.
The moment she stepped onto land, her body felt unbearably heavy, and she nearly stumbled from the sudden shift.
It took her a while to recover.
Returning to the shade of their makeshift canopy, Ye Wenjin collapsed onto a lounge chair to rest. Before long, Rong Yunshu and Rong Yunquan also returned, dragging their surfboards behind them. The excitement still lingered in their eyes, as if they hadn’t had their fill of fun yet.
But their expressions were a little odd.
Seeing them return, Ye Wenjin greeted them wearily.
“Had enough fun?”
Rong Yunshu and Rong Yunquan exchanged glances and shook their heads. “Not really, but… things got a bit chaotic, so we decided to come back first.”
Ye Wenjin was surprised. “Chaotic? What happened? Did you run into trouble?”
The mere memory of it made Rong Yunshu sigh in exasperation. “We were surfing just fine, but then this group of people showed up out of nowhere—reckless, disruptive, and ruining everyone else’s fun. A lot of people got affected.”
Rong Yunquan frowned as well. “Yeah, they were seriously outrageous. It was like they didn’t even understand human language. We figured things weren’t looking good, so we thought we’d come back first, rest up, and find another spot later.”
Ye Wenjin’s brows furrowed as she listened. “How could people like that exist? Did no one call them out?”
Rong Yunshu sighed helplessly. “Apparently, they’re repeat offenders. They often come to surf around this time, and they’re supposedly some kind of video bloggers. People have confronted them before, but those who did got filmed and edited in a way that made them look bad, leading to online backlash.”
Ye Wenjin was shocked. “What? That’s just cyberbullying!”
She truly hadn’t expected something like this to happen—how brazen could they be?
Rong Yunquan flopped down bonelessly. “Maybe they think they’re untouchable. Rumor has it they’ve got some connections.”
Ye Wenjin’s frown deepened. She couldn’t accept this, but at the end of the day, it wasn’t their problem, and the other party clearly spelled trouble.
They had finally gotten a chance to enjoy themselves, and Ye Wenjin didn’t want anything to ruin it. She paused, glancing at Jian Mo, and the moment she met the latter’s calm gaze, the unease in her heart instantly dissipated.
Ye Wenjin exhaled slowly. “Forget it. Let’s just steer clear of them to avoid ruining the mood.”
Rong Yunshu nodded slowly, though her expression remained displeased.
Rong Yunquan, on the other hand, didn’t seem to care much, weakly flashing an OK sign.
Ye Wenjin had initially thought they could just brush this off and move on—that nothing would come of it. But when she realized Chu Yunsheng and Zhou Wuhuan still hadn’t returned, a bad feeling settled in her chest.
She quickly turned to Rong Yunshu. “Yunshu, did you see Yunsheng when you came back?”
Rong Yunshu and Rong Yunquan exchanged glances again before shaking their heads. “We weren’t surfing in the same area, and we didn’t see her on the way back. Maybe she and Zhou Wuhuan went somewhere else?”
They said this because they knew Zhou Wuhuan couldn’t surf. If Chu Yunsheng had taken her out, it definitely wouldn’t have been for surfing.
Ye Wenjin knew that made sense, but she still felt uneasy.
Jian Mo pondered for a moment before speaking. “Xiao Jin, don’t panic. Try calling them first.”
Only then did Ye Wenjin snap out of it, hurriedly pulling out her phone to make the call.
But the line rang endlessly with no answer. She then tried Zhou Wuhuan’s number, but still, no one picked up.
It was possible they simply hadn’t noticed the calls.
Yet with neither of them answering, Ye Wenjin couldn’t help but worry—especially after what Rong Yunshu had just told them. It was hard not to make the connection.
Gradually, the expressions of the group darkened.
Just as Ye Wenjin was growing increasingly anxious, Rong Yunshu suddenly spoke up, “I think I might know where they are.”
Ye Wenjin turned to see her listening intently to something.
Exchanging glances, the others quickly gathered around. Upon listening carefully, they realized someone nearby was chatting about a heated argument in the area, mentioning how fierce one of the girls involved was.
Ye Wenjin’s heart skipped a beat—somehow, she felt it must be Chu Yunsheng and the others.
Without delay, they asked the passerby for directions to the location.
Fortunately, the stranger kindly pointed them in the right direction.
The group hurried toward the small shop.
Sure enough, even from a distance, they could see a crowd gathered around, watching the commotion. Right in the center were Chu Yunsheng and Zhou Wuhuan—the very people they were looking for.
But contrary to their expectations of finding them being bullied, the situation was completely one-sided.
Except the advantage was entirely with Chu Yunsheng and Zhou Wuhuan.
Even from afar, they could hear Zhou Wuhuan relentlessly firing off words, leaving the other side utterly defenseless against the verbal onslaught.
The group fell into simultaneous silence.
