After Mistaking My Stepsister’s First Love - Chapter 55
Early the next morning, Ye Wenjin was awakened by a fragrance. Half-asleep, she followed the scent to its source, eventually nuzzling against Jian Mo’s neck and taking a deep breath.
The cool, refreshing pheromones rushed straight from her nose to her brain, and Ye Wenjin suddenly jolted awake.
Instinctively, she looked at Jian Mo, only to find her frowning, clearly in discomfort.
It was the first time Ye Wenjin had seen Jian Mo like this, and it startled her. Without another thought, she quickly called out, “Sister? Sister, wake up! Sister?”
This time, it took several calls before Jian Mo slowly opened her eyes. “Xiao Jin? What’s wrong?”
She still seemed dazed, her eyes filled with confusion.
Ye Wenjin gazed at her worriedly, immediately reaching out to touch her forehead, afraid she might be feverish.
Fortunately, her skin was warm but not burning. Still, Jian Mo’s condition didn’t seem right at all.
Ye Wenjin withdrew her hand and asked anxiously, “Sister, are you feeling unwell? Your pheromones are leaking again, and it’s stronger than last night.”
At these words, the confusion in Jian Mo’s eyes instantly cleared. “Pheromone leakage?”
She seemed to think for a moment. “It’s nothing serious. I just need to trouble Xiao Jin to give me another temporary mark.”
Ye Wenjin had never minded giving Jian Mo temporary marks, but her worry didn’t lessen. “Sister, are you really okay?”
Jian Mo shook her head, reaching out to caress Ye Wenjin’s cheek gently. “I’m really fine. Maybe the external pheromones are too chaotic and a bit stimulating. A temporary mark will fix it. Don’t worry.”
Ye Wenjin pressed her lips together, her brow furrowing slightly.
Truthfully, she still felt Jian Mo didn’t seem entirely fine, but… she couldn’t bring herself to question her. After hesitating for just two seconds, she nodded, deciding to give the temporary mark first while keeping a close eye on Jian Mo’s condition.
If anything was wrong, she’d notice it immediately.
Ye Wenjin frowned, feeling as though a thought had flashed through her mind but slipped away before she could grasp it.
This time, the temporary mark lasted longer than usual, and she instinctively injected more pheromones than before.
Their intertwined scents quickly filled the entire room.
Jian Mo let out a soft, overwhelmed gasp, and Ye Wenjin immediately soothed her by licking her slightly swollen gland, continuing with extra care.
For some reason, Jian Mo seemed more responsive this time, so the temporary mark took longer than usual.
By the time it ended, nearly half an hour had passed. Ye Wenjin carefully applied a pheromone-blocking patch to the gland, sealing away the alluring scent.
The pheromones in the room gradually dissipated as they both regained their composure. At the very least, Jian Mo now appeared to be back to normal.
She exhaled slowly. “It’s about time. Let’s get up, Xiao Jin. You go freshen up first.”
Thinking Jian Mo might need a moment to herself, Ye Wenjin nodded and got up to wash up.
As Jian Mo watched Ye Wenjin’s retreating figure, she was uncharacteristically unsettled. Her gaze held a trace of reluctant longing, an emotion she would never have shown so openly before.
She knew her condition wasn’t quite right, but…
They had finally managed to go on this trip, and Jian Mo didn’t want to ruin the mood. Besides, she knew her own body well enough to be sure nothing would go wrong for the time being, so… she could wait a little longer.
By the time the two of them finished tidying up and went downstairs, Jian Mo no longer showed any signs of discomfort. However, Ye Wenjin still didn’t let her guard down, carefully keeping an eye on her.
At this point, everyone else had already gone downstairs for breakfast, only the two of them were missing.
Ye Wenjin keenly noticed the teasing look in Chu Yunsheng’s eyes, her cheeks warming slightly before she deliberately averted her gaze, feigning composure.
Today, they had an impromptu plan: surfing. Originally, they were supposed to visit various scenic spots for photos, but after a sudden inspiration yesterday, today’s itinerary was changed to surfing.
However, it was still early, so everyone leisurely finished breakfast. Only after confirming they hadn’t forgotten anything did they prepare to set off for the beach.
The coastline they were heading to was actually quite far away, but it was reputed to be the most beautiful stretch of shore, attracting countless visitors every year just for photos.
The beach itself was crescent-shaped, with fine white sand that looked incredibly soft underfoot.
And when night fell, the scenery transformed waves crashing against the shore emitted a dreamy blue glow, creating an ethereal sight that earned it the nickname “Blue Moon of the Sea.”
So, apart from surfing, their plan for the day also included witnessing the legendary sea-blue moon at night.
Right now, they were on their way there.
They hadn’t left early, it was already close to ten, the sun climbing higher in the sky, the sweltering heat beginning to make itself known.
Fortunately, everyone had mentally prepared themselves for the scorching weather, so they were fully armed for the day.
Ye Wenjin kept gazing around curiously, and when she caught a distant glimpse of a white crescent-shaped shoreline, she suddenly exclaimed,
“Look over there! You can already see it!”
Everyone perked up at her words, crowding by the car windows to peer outside. As the white coastline drew nearer, excitement flickered in their eyes.
Especially the seawater merging with the shore, it looked astonishingly clear. The entire scene resembled a vividly colored painting, instantly lifting their spirits.
The closer they got to the shore, the more they could faintly hear laughter and chatter drifting from the beach.
The sand was crowded people sunbathing, chatting, swimming, playing beach volleyball…
It was a lively, joyful scene.
Ye Wenjin’s eyes swept over the crowd with enthusiasm before finally landing on a tiny black dot in the water.
It was a surfer preparing to ride the waves, pushing their board forward with effort, feeling the rising tide. Then, seizing the right moment, they leaped onto the board just as a roaring wave swallowed their figure.
Ye Wenjin’s heart clenched in worry for the surfer, but moments later, they emerged again, riding the waves with skill, and her eyes sparkled with admiration.
Just watching that one moment made her blood surge with excitement, itching to give it a try herself.
But then she remembered she didn’t even know how to swim yet, and her enthusiasm instantly cooled, the light in her eyes dimming.
Still, Ye Wenjin was particularly good at adjusting her mood, so she quickly perked up again, shifting her focus to the swimming lessons she was about to take.
Although surfing was out of the question for now, she could start by learning to swim! That way, they could play together next time!
Ye Wenjin cheered herself on, though a hint of envy still lingered in her eyes.
Jian Mo observed her thoughtfully.
Upon arriving at the beach, Jian Mo led the group to a less crowded spot. Everyone quickly pitched in to set up the sunshade and arranged several lounge chairs side by side.
Once the preparations were done, Chu Yunsheng vanished in the blink of an eye.
Ye Wenjin was initially puzzled about her whereabouts until she spotted her figure in the sea.
At that moment, Chu Yunsheng was bobbing up and down with the waves, having misjudged the timing several times and getting washed back to shore repeatedly.
But she was stubborn. Even after being pushed back, she kept swimming forward with all her might, making Ye Wenjin nervous on her behalf.
Only when she saw Chu Yunsheng finally stand safely on the surfboard did Ye Wenjin slowly exhale, her muscles tense from the anxiety.
But when she caught sight of someone even more nervous out of the corner of her eye, Ye Wenjin suddenly relaxed.
She discreetly observed Zhou Wuhuan, noticing more and more details she had previously overlooked.
The way Zhou Wuhuan looked at Chu Yunsheng was far from innocent, and now that she was aware, the gaze seemed even more obvious.
Perhaps it was a case of the onlooker seeing more than the player or maybe Zhou Wuhuan had just been exceptionally good at hiding it before?
Ye Wenjin pondered for a moment and concluded it might be a bit of both.
Meanwhile, Chu Yunsheng, who had eagerly gone surfing, dragged her board back with great effort after one successful attempt and collapsed onto a lounge chair.
Ye Wenjin was surprised. “You… done already?”
Chu Yunsheng lay there peacefully. “Surfing is exhausting. Managing to succeed once is already an achievement. I need a break.”
Ye Wenjin chuckled. Her gaze swept past Zhou Wuhuan, who remained silent, and paused. She glanced at the Rong sisters, who were preparing to surf, then at Jian Mo, before finally turning to Chu Yunsheng, who was still sprawled out. “Well, we’re off to play too. Yunsheng, make sure you take Zhou Wuhuan with you next time.”
Chu Yunsheng propped herself up and looked at Zhou Wuhuan, suddenly realizing. “Oh right, almost forgot about you.”
She waved casually. “Go on, go on. Zhou Wuhuan’s with me. Don’t worry, I won’t lose her.”
Ye Wenjin trusted her, so she took Jian Mo’s hand and left.
But halfway there, she glanced back and saw Chu Yunsheng and Zhou Wuhuan huddled together, chatting about something. Their interaction seemed harmonious, so she finally relaxed completely.
“Xiao Jin, you seem quite concerned about Xiao Zhou?” Jian Mo suddenly spoke up.
Ye Wenjin was startled. After a moment, she touched her cheek sheepishly and whispered, “Not concern, I’ve discovered a big secret! Zhou Wuhuan seems to like Yunsheng!”
Jian Mo looked surprised not because of the secret, but because of Ye Wenjin.
Perhaps her expression was too incredulous, because Ye Wenjin noticed. She hesitated. “Sis, what’s with that look…?”
Jian Mo chuckled. “Hmm, just a little surprised you actually noticed.”
Ye Wenjin: “?”
Was she really that oblivious?!
She covered her face, feeling thoroughly embarrassed.
Ye Wenjin was genuinely embarrassed. She hadn’t expected to be seen in such a light by Jian Mo, leaving her momentarily at a loss.
But then it occurred to her, it seemed everyone thought the same way. So, she quickly composed herself.
“Then let’s go learn how to swim, sis.”
Under the other’s sparkling gaze, Jian Mo’s expression remained unchanged, but her eyes flickered slightly, and the corners of her lips lifted uncontrollably as she nodded.
Before heading out, however, they still needed to change into swimsuits and grab a lifebuoy as a precaution.
But when it came to the actual lesson, Ye Wenjin felt like the lifebuoy might not be necessary after all.
