After Mistaking My Stepsister’s First Love - Chapter 26
Though her emotions had calmed somewhat under Jian Mo’s soothing, the moment she recalled how naturally Jian Mo had spoken those words, the restless heat in Ye Wenjin’s heart flared up again uncontrollably.
So much so that during dinner, she didn’t dare glance in Jian Mo’s direction. With her eyes downcast, she focused solely on eating, not daring to utter a single word.
Butler Wu found the scene quite peculiar, his gaze shifting back and forth between the two.
Jian Mo, on the other hand, remained composed as always, acting as if nothing had happened except for the faint flicker of amusement in her eyes whenever she inadvertently glanced at Ye Wenjin.
Ye Wenjin was different. She was far too easy to read.
Perhaps it was her youth, or perhaps her innocence, but her emotions were always written plainly on her face, making it obvious to anyone what she was thinking.
And with such a shy reaction, everyone could tell that something must have happened between them.
Butler Wu observed the two with a smile, his expression growing increasingly benevolent the longer he watched.
Yet as he continued looking, a trace of melancholy suddenly surfaced in his heart.
What a pity that Madam is no longer here. If she were, she would surely be overjoyed to see Mo Mo having found someone she likes especially someone as wonderful as Wenjin. Madam would have adored her.
Butler Wu sighed inwardly, a shadow of sorrow flashing through his eyes before he quickly suppressed it.
This was a happy moment, no need to dwell on such thoughts and ruin the mood.
But the thought of Madam inevitably led to the circumstances of her passing, and a flicker of disgust swiftly crossed Butler Wu’s eyes.
She quickly adjusted her emotions, turning her kindly gaze back to Ye Wenjin, a smile returning to her lips.
Wenjin truly was a good girl.
Butler Wu continued watching the two with a knowing smile, delighted by the unmistakably intimate atmosphere between them. Clearly, things were progressing smoothly.
Ye Wenjin’s skin was far too thin. The words Jian Mo had spoken earlier left her unable to calm down for the longest time. What made it worse was that she could feel Butler Wu’s gaze on her throughout dinner. Though there was no malice in it, she couldn’t help but feel embarrassed.
The entire meal passed in a daze, and it wasn’t until she finally finished eating that Ye Wenjin could finally exhale in relief.
It was still early. Glancing at Jian Mo, Ye Wenjin hesitated for a moment before tentatively walking over to her. Before she could even speak, her face flushed slightly.
“Sister, I can. I go practice first?”
Jian Mo looked at her, and under that gaze, Ye Wenjin felt as if all her little thoughts were laid bare.
Yet Jian Mo only chuckled softly. “Of course you can.”
She wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but Ye Wenjin felt there was something profoundly meaningful in Jian Mo’s eyes as she spoke.
Too embarrassed to meet her gaze any longer, Ye Wenjin murmured her thanks before hurriedly turning and making her way to the dance studio.
The temperature had risen over the past couple of days, making the air conditioning unnecessary.
Just from walking briskly, Ye Wenjin already felt a faint warmth spreading through her. Since she had just eaten, she didn’t start practicing immediately. Instead, she sat cross-legged on the floor, contemplating how to adapt the dance for her upcoming audition.
The audition wouldn’t just evaluate their technical skill it would also assess their personal style.
What Ye Wenjin needed to figure out was how to tailor the choreography to suit her, showcasing her individuality.
In fact, she had been pondering this issue for the past two days, but inspiration had eluded her, so she had no choice but to focus on perfecting the dance first.
Originally, she could have mulled it over during her breaks, but because of Jian Mo’s words, a surge of heat rose within her, making it impossible for Ye Wenjin to calm her mind and think clearly.
Gazing at the video playing on her phone, Ye Wenjin’s eyes grew distant, and she unwittingly drifted into a daze.
Sometimes, it felt as though her thoughts weren’t her own, completely beyond her control.
The harder she tried to calm down, the more restless they became until the images in her mind galloped wildly into forbidden territory.
Ye Wenjin abruptly shut her eyes and covered her face with her hands, forcing herself to regain composure.
No more thinking! She had to calm down!
After silently repeating this to herself several times, she slowly opened her eyes. But the moment she lifted her head and inadvertently caught sight of her slightly flushed cheeks and watery gaze in the mirror, she was startled and averted her eyes as if electrocuted.
Now too embarrassed to look in the mirror, Ye Wenjin simply got up to change her clothes, finally managing to steady herself.
After resting for over half an hour, she had mostly digested her emotions, and her state of mind gradually improved.
Her runaway rationality finally returned at least she wasn’t as unable to control her thoughts as before.
Taking a deep breath, she began warming up, stretching her body thoroughly before starting to practice the chosen dance routine.
Following the shifts in the music, Ye Wenjin flawlessly replicated every move, yet she remained unsatisfied.
After one full run-through, she paused to consider which parts she could modify.
Lost in thought, she set up her phone to record, planning to review the effects of her adaptations later and refine them further.
After three or four relentless attempts, her breathing grew uneven, and she panted slightly, her brows furrowed in clear dissatisfaction.
She still needed some inspiration.
Lost in her own world, she unconsciously immersed herself in continuous revisions, experiments, and performances.
Only when beads of sweat rolled heavily down her temples did Ye Wenjin realize how exhausted she was.
Catching her breath, she turned to check the time, only to spot Jian Mo’s graceful figure standing at the door.
She had no idea how long the other woman had been there or how much she had seen.
The moment their eyes met, Ye Wenjin instinctively brightened, her ears immediately turning red.
Her dance adaptation was still incomplete, the transitions rough, and she had been experimenting nonstop.
Her expression during the trial-and-error process hadn’t been the most composed.
And now, this half-finished work had been witnessed by Jian Mo.
Ye Wenjin’s ears burned, her cheeks warming with a tinge of shame.
“Sister, you… when did you get here? Have you been watching for long?”
Ye Wenjin hurried forward but stopped two steps away from Jian Mo.
Drenched in sweat from practice, she worried about letting the other woman catch any unpleasant scent.
So she restrained herself, maintaining that small distance.
Jian Mo’s eyes flickered, her smile unwavering. “Why stop there, Xiao Jin? You’re standing so far away.”
Ye Wenjin hesitated but answered honestly, “I’ve been sweating a lot. I didn’t want you to smell anything unpleasant.”
Jian Mo’s eyes sparkled with amusement. “Oh? But I don’t mind. Come closer.”
When Ye Wenjin heard this, although she still felt it wasn’t quite right, she didn’t want to refuse Jian Mo either. So she took two small steps forward, then looked up at Jian Mo.
Jian Mo smiled at her without saying a word.
Seeing this, Ye Wenjin inched forward another two steps, slow as a snail, before glancing at Jian Mo again. Noticing she still had no intention of speaking, Ye Wenjin reluctantly moved a bit closer.
Only when the distance between them had narrowed significantly did Jian Mo finally speak softly, “Are you tired from practicing? You’ve been dancing nonstop for almost two hours now, it’s time to rest.”
Ye Wenjin was startled to realize so much time had passed.
Observing her expression and recalling what she had just witnessed, Jian Mo mused thoughtfully, “Xiao Jin, are you adapting this dance?”
Ye Wenjin nodded, instinctively voicing her frustration, “Yes, but I…”
She trailed off, suddenly hesitating.
Should she tell Jian Mo now? But she wasn’t sure if she could even secure the role yet. Wouldn’t it be embarrassing if she mentioned it now and ended up failing? What if she made a fool of herself in front of her sister?!
Caught in this dilemma, Ye Wenjin fell silent.
Jian Mo’s eyes flickered slightly as she said slowly, “Xiao Jin? Is this something you can’t tell me? A secret?”
Ye Wenjin shook her head instinctively.
Jian Mo’s tone softened with a hint of dejection. “Ah so, Xiao Jin doesn’t want to tell me.”
Ye Wenjin: “!”
Her hesitation vanished instantly as she hurriedly explained, “No, no, of course I want to tell you, sister.
The dance I’m practicing now is for an audition. There’s a group performance opportunity coming up, and our whole class will be participating, but they need to select one lead dancer and a few supporting dancers.
I’m preparing for the auditions for those roles, but…”
“I was planning to invite you to the performance only after securing one of the roles. If I become the lead or a supporting dancer, I wanted you to…”
She closed her eyes, letting the warmth rise to her cheeks. “I wanted you to come watch me perform.”
Jian Mo remained silent.
Unable to bear the quiet, Ye Wenjin nervously opened her eyes, only to meet Jian Mo’s amused gaze, which made her face burn even hotter.
“Sister!”
She called out shyly, unsure what else to say.
Jian Mo chuckled lightly. “If you don’t get the role, does that mean I can’t go watch? Xiao Jin?”
Ye Wenjin shook her head. “No, that’s not it. I just wanted…”
She suddenly looked up, her bright eyes shining at Jian Mo. “I just wanted you to see me as the lead or a supporting dancer.”
She had her own little motives, the lead and supporting dancers would undoubtedly draw a lot of attention, making it a great chance to stand out. Naturally, she wanted Jian Mo to see her in that light.
After saying this, Ye Wenjin grew too embarrassed to look at Jian Mo and began fidgeting with her fingers.
But then, thinking about the struggles she was having with the adaptation, her mood dipped again.
“Still, I’m missing some inspiration for the changes. The dance isn’t quite polished yet.”
Hearing Ye Wenjin’s honest admission, Jian Mo’s smile deepened. Seeing her distress over the adaptation, she thought for a moment before suggesting, “In that case, why not go watch someone else’s performance? I remember Teacher Mei Yan is holding a show in the neighboring city. Would you like to go?”
Ye Wenjin slowly widened her eyes, stammering, “Mei… Mei Yan? Which Mei Yan are you talking about?”
Jian Mo chuckled, “Do you know any other Mei Yan?”
Ye Wenjin froze, “The only Mei Yan I know is the famous dance performer but tickets to her shows are really hard to get.”
Jian Mo smiled, “Don’t worry about that.”
Ye Wenjin gradually snapped out of her daze, her eyes shining as she looked at Jian Mo.
She was overjoyed. Mei Yan’s dance troupe consisted of top-tier performers, and tickets always sold out almost instantly after release.
She had wanted to see a performance for a long time, but either couldn’t get tickets or was too busy. So, she had never had the chance to experience it live.
And now, Jian Mo was saying she would take her to see Mei Yan’s show!
Ye Wenjin was so excited that she instantly felt all her exhaustion melt away.
Seeing her happiness, Jian Mo raised an eyebrow, “Alright, it’s getting late. Go wash up.”
Ye Wenjin nodded eagerly and hurried to tidy up the dance studio.
Watching her flustered movements, Jian Mo added leisurely, “Xiao Jin, I’ll be waiting for you in the room.”
Ye Wenjin froze mid-motion, nearly dropping what she was holding.
She whipped her head around to look at Jian Mo, her face flushed but her gaze unwavering despite her soft voice.
” I know, sis.”
Jian Mo let out a light laugh and turned to leave first.
For the rest of the time, Ye Wenjin felt dizzy, the thoughts she had suppressed earlier surging back, especially when she knocked on Jian Mo’s door and heard her say, “Come in.” Her heart pounded wildly.
The lighting in the room was dim, the hazy glow suffused with an ambiguous atmosphere.
Ye Wenjin paused, swallowing hard before stepping inside.
Jian Mo smiled at her expression, “Xiao Jin, why are you still so nervous?”
Ye Wenjin’s face burned. She didn’t want to be nervous, but she couldn’t help it.
Around Jian Mo, it was hard for her to stay calm.
And especially, the intimate moments between them kept flashing through her mind. It wasn’t just nervousness, she was also deeply embarrassed.
Noticing her blush, Jian Mo watched her with amusement.
Ye Wenjin’s eyes darted away, “Sis, don’t look at me like that.”
Jian Mo slowly averted her gaze, “Fine, then I’ll leave it to you, Xiao Jin.”
Ye Wenjin immediately promised, “Don’t worry, sis, I’ll do a good job guiding you!”
Jian Mo hummed in acknowledgment, letting her control the pheromones to soothe her.
With the experience from the first time, Ye Wenjin was a bit more skilled now.
She carefully guided her pheromones, untangling Jian Mo’s chaotic ones bit by bit, stopping only when Jian Mo was on the verge of losing control.
Before coming, Ye Wenjin had resolved that this time would be purely about guidance.
But when she finished and accidentally met Jian Mo’s eyes, she found herself unable to look away.
As their gazes locked, the air around them grew thick with tension.
“Not going to do it?”
Jian Mo’s voice was soft, her eyes shimmering like water, irresistibly alluring.
And just like that, the thread of reason snapped effortlessly. Ye Wenjin gave up resisting, pressing forward with a look of near reverence as she kissed her.
She really is such a fickle-minded person.
