After Mistaking My Stepsister’s First Love - Chapter 10
Although there were many examination items, it didn’t take much time due to Jian Mo’s condition.
Since it was a premarital check-up, they also had to routinely assess their compatibility.
Before the test, Ye Wenjin felt somewhat uneasy, but when the results came out, she was astonished.
Her compatibility with Jian Mo was as high as 99.9%, almost reaching 100%.
Such a high compatibility rate was unprecedented in history.
Over a hundred years have passed since the emergence of secondary genders in humans, and now it’s considered a relatively stable phase. However, from its inception until now, such a high compatibility rate had never been detected before.
Generally speaking, a compatibility rate of 60% between an Alpha and Omega is considered acceptable, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, they could spend their lives together.
A rate above 80% can be called a match made in heaven, as compatibility also reflects, to some extent, the mutual attraction between the two parties.
Of course, compatibility isn’t the only criterion; there are cases where couples have very low compatibility yet still lead very happy lives.
However, such an extraordinarily high compatibility rate not only surprised Ye Wenjin but also left the examining doctor and everyone around them utterly amazed.
With such high compatibility, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call them a perfect match.
But Ye Wenjin’s first reaction wasn’t joy, it was bewilderment. It wasn’t until Jian Mo called her several times that she snapped out of it.
“What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
Ye Wenjin shook her head, “No, it’s nothing.”
Her evasive gaze suggested otherwise, and Jian Mo pondered silently. But before she could probe further, Ye Wenjin, who had claimed to be fine, couldn’t hold back any longer.
She turned to Jian Mo, hesitating and cautious as she asked, “Sister, back then… did I force you?”
Ye Wenjin knew full well that high compatibility meant that as an Omega, Jian Mo would be unable to control herself and enter estrus upon smelling her pheromones.
Not to mention, at that time, she had just undergone secondary differentiation, was under the influence of drugs, and wasn’t in her right mind, her actions couldn’t have been gentle.
So…
Was it possible that it wasn’t a one-night stand but rather that she had forced the other party?
The mere thought of this possibility filled Ye Wenjin with unease. If she didn’t clarify this, it would weigh on her heart forever, so she asked outright.
Jian Mo’s star-like eyes flickered, and a faint smile slowly bloomed on her lips, “So you think you forced me?”
Ye Wenjin was stunned—not by the question but by Jian Mo’s smile.
Without exaggeration, Jian Mo was the most beautiful person she had ever seen, and her unique aura amplified that beauty. Even without expression, she was stunning.
But now, when she saw her smile, for a moment, Ye Wenjin felt as though countless plum blossoms had blossomed behind her.
It was mesmerizing.
She hadn’t spent much time with Jian Mo and had hardly ever seen her smile. And now, she was smiling, albeit faintly.
But to Ye Wenjin, the impact was immense.
She almost didn’t react, staring blankly for a long time until she noticed Jian Mo’s gaze gradually turning puzzled, snapping her back to reality.
“Sister, I’m sorry.”
Ye Wenjin bowed her head in shame.
Jian Mo chuckled softly, “Sorry for what?”
Ye Wenjin looked up with a start, seemingly caught off guard by the question, but quickly composed herself and murmured, “A bit of… both, I guess.”
Jian Mo slowly arched an eyebrow, her expression impossibly gentle. “Xiao Jin, no one can force me into anything, so don’t overthink it.”
Ye Wenjin’s mind instantly became a whirl of confusion partly due to the affectionate way Jian Mo addressed her, and partly because of what she’d just said.
The implication was crystal clear: Jian Mo was telling her that agreeing to marry her was entirely voluntary.
Though she didn’t understand the reason.
Yet, Ye Wenjin still felt as if she’d been struck by a sudden, overwhelming joy, leaving her dizzy and her thoughts sluggish.
It took her a long moment to regain her composure, and when she did, she smiled sheepishly.
She thought Jian Mo’s personality was simply too good, so good that it made her vulnerable to being taken advantage of. Meanwhile, her own motives for proposing were far from pure, laced with ulterior intentions. A pang of guilt took root in her heart and began to grow.
“I understand,” she said obediently, then couldn’t help adding sincerely, “Jiejie, you’re really too kind.”
Jian Mo’s expression remained gentle. “Let’s go. Where do you need to be?”
Ye Wenjin quickly fell into step beside her and replied, “At the Xinglin Grand Theater. Actually, I’m going there to watch a performance seeing it up close will help me learn a lot.”
Jian Mo nodded. “What time does it end?”
Without much thought, Ye Wenjin answered, “Around six in the evening, probably.”
“Mm. I’ll come pick you up then.”
“Mm… Huh? Pick me up?”
Ye Wenjin halted in surprise.
Jian Mo turned back to look at her. “Yes, to take you back to get your household register. Unless you don’t need it?”
Ye Wenjin’s eyes brightened slightly. “I do need it.”
“Mm, let’s go.”
And so, Ye Wenjin happily followed along.
By the time they reached the grand theater, time had grown tight, but fortunately, they arrived just before two o’clock.
With the risk of being late looming, Ye Wenjin didn’t have time to dwell on anything else. After a hurried goodbye to Jian Mo, she rushed into the theater.
When she entered, the seats were already filled with people. Scanning the crowd, she couldn’t spot Rong Yunshu anywhere.
Luckily, her phone buzzed just then. After checking the message, she finally located Rong Yunshu.
Settling into her seat, Ye Wenjin finally let out a sigh of relief.
Noticing her arrival, Rong Yunshu pressed her lips together and asked, “Wenjin, did you take leave this morning? I messaged you, but you didn’t reply.”
Ye Wenjin froze for a second before flipping through their chat history and spotting the missed message. She gave Rong Yunshu an apologetic look and whispered, “Sorry, Yunshu. I was in a bit of a rush this morning and didn’t see your message.”
Rong Yunshu smiled gently. “It’s fine. Did you take leave this morning? Were you feeling unwell?”
Ye Wenjin didn’t catch the probing tone in her words and answered, “Mm, I went for a check-up. The registration officer said I needed to get some tests done first and bring the results back before I could register.”
Though she omitted part of the truth, she really had gone for a check-up.
Just… not only that one.
Ye Wenjin instinctively kept quiet about the marriage examination. It wasn’t that she didn’t consider Rong Yunshu a friend, she just didn’t know how to bring it up and felt it was awkward to mention, so she decided to hold off for now.
Rong Yunshu had been observing Ye Wenjin’s expression closely and naturally noticed something was off.
Her hands clenched slightly without her realizing it. Lowering her gaze, she was about to say something when a voice suddenly interrupted.
“Move aside, I need to get through.”
The arrogant expression and malicious tone made it clear who it was without even looking up.
Ye Wenjin didn’t want any trouble, so she silently pulled her legs back to let the person pass.
However, Rong Yunshu wasn’t about to indulge the newcomer. She stopped Ye Wenjin’s movement and looked up at the person with a mocking smile.
Just the right moment, someone had walked straight into her line of fire when she was already in a bad mood.
“Well, well, if it isn’t our ‘Proud Queen’? What’s the matter? Did you finally deign to grace us with your presence in class today?”
Her words dripped with sarcasm from the very first sentence.
Hearing this nickname, Ye Wenjin nearly laughed, but she knew doing so would only escalate the situation. She forced herself to hold it in.
But while she managed to restrain herself, the other person had no such intentions. Their voice immediately rose.
“Rong Yunshu! I wasn’t talking to you, why are you butting in?!”
Rong Yunshu leaned back in her seat, stretching her legs out to block the aisle completely.
“What’s the matter, ‘Proud Queen’? Since when do you get to dictate who speaks?”
Clearly provoked by Rong Yunshu’s attitude, the other girl raised her voice even higher, shouting Rong Yunshu’s name and drawing the attention of several onlookers.
“Truly living up to your title, ‘Proud Queen.’ You really love being the center of attention, don’t you?”
The girl grew even angrier. “Rong Yunshu, speak properly! I have a name, stop calling me that!”
Rong Yunshu smirked. “I’ll call you whatever I want.”
Their argument drew more and more people, and when the teacher, alerted by the commotion, arrived and saw the two of them again, she immediately felt a headache coming on.
“What’s all this noise?! The event is about to start, this is no time for a scene!”
Rong Yunshu shrugged, feigning innocence. “It wasn’t me, teacher. She’s the one picking a fight. You know me, I never go looking for trouble.”
“Rong Yunshu! You!”
The teacher cut in wearily. “Enough, Yi Huan. Mind the occasion.”
Yi Huan didn’t want to back down, but under the teacher’s warning glare, she had no choice. With a resentful glare, she turned and stormed off to find another seat.
The argument ended there, but Ye Wenjin, who had stayed quiet the entire time, couldn’t shake the feeling of an intense gaze burning into her back, as if trying to bore a hole through her.
She sighed inwardly, feeling somewhat helpless.
Truthfully, she had no idea why Yi Huan seemed to dislike her so much. The other girl’s attitude toward her had always been hostile, as if Ye Wenjin had stolen something from her. But no matter how much she racked her brain, she couldn’t figure out what it could be.
Their relationship in class was one of rivalry at least, that’s how Yi Huan saw it and their conflicts had only grown worse over time, to the point where reconciliation seemed nearly impossible.
“Don’t mind her. If she causes trouble again, just come to me.”
Ye Wenjin smiled. “I’m fine, don’t worry.”
Rong Yunshu clicked her tongue in frustration. “You’re too soft-hearted. Next time she picks a fight, give it right back to her, got it?”
Ye Wenjin nodded helplessly. “Got it. The performance is about to start, let’s keep it down.”
Rong Yunshu agreed and quieted down, but that didn’t stop her from shooting a warning glance Yi Huan’s way.
Yi Huan fumed but eventually averted her gaze.
Finally, Ye Wenjin felt some peace.
As the performance neared its end, Ye Wenjin received a message from Jian Mo, and her eyes curved slightly in a smile.
“Wenjin, what do you want to eat later?” Rong Yunshu whispered.
Ye Wenjin paused, then replied apologetically, “Yunshu, you go ahead without me. I need to go home for a bit.”
Rong Yunshu looked puzzled but nodded.
After the show, the two of them walked out of the theater together, and Ye Wenjin immediately spotted Jian Mo’s car.
“I’ll head off first then. Yunshu, you should go back soon.”
Rong Yunshu nodded but didn’t leave, instead watching as Ye Wenjin hurried over to a car.
The door slowly opened, revealing a faint glimpse of someone sitting inside.
It was a strikingly beautiful woman with an aloof, elegant demeanor.
Her gaze swept over calmly, but the moment it landed on Ye Wenjin, it softened abruptly.
Rong Yunshu’s heart clenched.
Who was that?
