After Mistaking My Sister’s Friend for a Scumbag Alpha - Chapter 7
Turning back toward the house, Jiang Wanyi was pulled aside by her parents for a few final words of advice. She agreed to everything they said with practiced obedience and finally retreated to her bedroom.
She opened her phone and scrolled through her chat history with the Tech Geek.
As early as two o’clock that afternoon, the geek had sent over the real-world identities behind the accounts that were spreading rumors and steering the narrative. However, she had been too anxious then and too preoccupied with Shangguan Shi all afternoon, to deal with it. Only now did she have the mental energy to address the situation.
It turned out that half of the people coordinating the slander were Song Manyun’s friends, and the account causing the most trouble was operated by Song Manyun herself.
Wanyi let out a cold, angry laugh. Song Manyun was not just a piece of trash; she was delusional. Wanyi had already succeeded in getting her kicked out of school, yet the woman still had the audacity to keep coming at her. She truly had a death wish.
Wanyi first contacted her instructors to deal with the rumor-mongers still on campus. Finally, she reached out to a lawyer. She was going to put Song Manyun behind bars.
She contacted an experienced, top-tier lawyer from the Jiang family’s legal team. After the lawyer understood the details, she let out a sigh of relief. It was a minor case, and given that the second Miss Jiang was clearly in the right, it would be an easy victory. Once the lawyer accepted the task and promised to handle everything, Wanyi finally felt at peace. She showered and went to sleep.
However, when she woke up the next morning and checked her phone on the way to school, she saw a message from the lawyer saying she was dropping the case.
[Jiang Wanyi: Why? Is the case too difficult?]
[Lawyer: Second Miss, since you’ve already hired someone else to take the case, there’s no need to make a fool of me.]
[Jiang Wanyi: I didn’t hire anyone else.]
*****
Why would she hire two lawyers? Besides, even if she did, she would have stayed within the Jiang family team. Was there anyone more trustworthy or capable than them?
Because it was a case for the Second Miss, the lawyer had stayed up all night digging into Song Manyun’s background to ensure a perfect filing. Hearing that an industry legend had already taken the case and had apparently done so earlier than her, made the lawyer feel like she was going to cough up blood. Naturally, her message to Wanyi had been a bit sharp.
After hearing Wanyi’s explanation, the lawyer’s anger dissipated. she informed Wanyi that another major figure in the legal world had indeed already claimed the case.
[Jiang Wanyi: I am truly sorry. I was unaware of this and I’ve wasted your time.]
[Transfer Payment]
Once she saw the amount of the transfer, the lawyer’s frustration vanished completely: [No worries, it wasn’t intentional. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need anything in the future, Second Miss.]
With the lawyer out of the picture, Wanyi found Shangguan Shi’s chat window. Her keyboard popped up automatically, but she hesitated for a long time without sending a single word.
She switched over to her sister’s chat instead: [Sister, did you help me with something recently?]
Jiang Qianyi didn’t reply, likely because she was busy. Wanyi wasn’t in a rush; it was either her family or the scumbag Alpha who had intervened. There was no one else. When she finally received a reply after arriving at school, it confirmed that it wasn’t Qianyi.
It was the Alpha’s doing. Logically, since the woman was treating her well, she should have sent a thank you. But when she thought of the Alpha’s atrocities in the book, the resentment flared up again, and she didn’t send a single syllable.

After reaching school and grabbing her books from the dorm, Wanyi walked toward her classroom with Liu Wen. Her friend lowered her voice, looking quite secretive.
“Wanwan, listen. ‘Golden Bell’ just started a new story! It’s another dog-blood drama about President Shangguan and ‘Beauty Jiang.’ I read a few chapters and it’s amazing! I totally recommend it!”
“Golden Bell” was a popular writer on a fanfiction site known for thrilling, high-stakes plots and excellent prose. Liu Wen was a huge fan. Wanyi, however, found the name unfamiliar. “Who is Golden Bell?”
“She’s the author of that story I recommended to you last time!”
Did that happen? Wanyi didn’t remember it at all. She wanted to ask Liu Wen for more details, but a senior happened to walk over to greet them, cutting the question short.
The senior was Zhong Yun, an Omega from the Chinese Literature department. They weren’t in the same major or club, but they knew each other because Zhong Yun was a talented playwright who had written several scripts for the drama club. Since the New Year’s festival was only a month away, Zhong Yun had written a new play for them. Wanyi was playing the female lead, so Zhong Yun struck up a conversation about the script and rehearsals.
The conversation shifted Wanyi’s train of thought. By the time Zhong Yun left, Wanyi had forgotten what she was going to ask. She figured it wasn’t anything important and let it go. Liu Wen, having accomplished her goal of recommending the story, didn’t bring it up again either.
Then Liu Wen remembered something else. “Wanwan, you told me yesterday you were ‘about to be married.’ How soon is ‘about to be’?”
“We registered yesterday,” Wanyi replied, not hiding it.
Liu Wen’s eyes nearly popped out of her head. Remembering the lesson from the day before, she clamped her hand over her mouth to keep from screaming.
“It’s just a marriage certificate,” Wanyi said. “It’s a piece of paper. Is there a need to be this shocked?”
“It’s a marriage certificate! It’s a life-changing event! If you pick the wrong partner, it can ruin your entire future!”
Wanyi agreed with that wholeheartedly. In the book, her sister’s future had been destroyed by the scumbag Alpha. Even if the ending was “happy,” the beginning was a nightmare. If something happened later, wouldn’t the scumbag just go back to domestic violence and illegal organ harvesting?
The more Wanyi thought about it, the angrier she became. Liu Wen watched her friend’s expression darken and assumed the groom must be awful. She tried to offer comfort: “Well, since it’s a business alliance, maybe it’ll be okay. In novels, people in those marriages usually just play their own games and don’t interfere with each other. You guys can probably do that too, right?”
“No, we can’t,” Wanyi said, emphasizing every word. “She and I must be as close as can be.”
Only then could she get the Alpha to lower her guard, making it easier for Wanyi to find the evidence she needed.

After finishing drama club rehearsals that evening, Wanyi went back to her small apartment near campus to pack a few things. She then hopped on an electric scooter and rode to Shangguan Shi’s home.
The Alpha’s place was only a few minutes away. Wanyi had been there the day before when the woman had helped her record her information with the security gate, so she made it up to the apartment without a hitch. She raised her hand and knocked.
Shangguan Shi had given her the passcode yesterday, but she chose to knock instead. In less than ten seconds, the door opened. The woman inside was wearing a silk nightgown that revealed a good portion of her well-proportioned, delicate legs. Her damp hair hung loose, and the tips of her strands had noticeably soaked the fabric over her chest. It was painfully obvious she wasn’t wearing a bra.
No Alpha virtue at all, Wanyi thought.
Completely forgetting whatever her plan had been upon arrival, Wanyi forced her gaze up to the Alpha’s face and interrogated her: “Why are you opening the door dressed like that? What if it wasn’t me?”
“If it weren’t you, I naturally would have changed,” Shangguan Shi said with a soft, natural smile.
She was the only resident on this floor, and she had installed security cameras in the hallway. She had known exactly who was at the door.
