After Mistakenly Marking Her Stunning Omega Stepsister - Chapter 18
“Hmm?” Lin Sui stared intently at Lu Xiaomeng, an inexplicable, indescribable aura surrounding her. “Do I look… easy to fool?”
Lu Xiaomeng opened her mouth, as if wanting to say something, but hesitated.
Lin Sui’s eyebrow twitched slightly, her patience quickly wearing thin. She sidestepped Lu Xiaomeng and pushed open the infirmary door.
Inside, a large desk stood near the entrance, with several small beds nearby. A healthcare worker in a white coat sat at the desk, looking up at the sound of the door.
“Are you here to see a doctor? What’s wrong?”
Lin Sui glanced at the nurse before her gaze settled on Wen Xiangzhu, who sat on the nearby bed.
Her shoes and socks lay to the side, her pant legs rolled up to her knees. Her ankle was swollen, with a hint of bruising.
Wen Xiangzhu looked startled to see Lin Sui. “What are you…”
“Classmate?” The nurse looked at Lin Sui, then back at Wen Xiangzhu, understanding dawning on her face. “You’re here to see her, aren’t you?”
Lin Sui frowned deeply and nodded.
The nurse smiled. “She just sprained her ankle. We’ve applied some ointment. She should avoid putting weight on that foot for now.”
Wen Xiangzhu’s small face showed worry. “Can I still compete in the high jump?”
“Absolutely not,” the nurse said, adjusting her black-rimmed glasses. “She needs proper rest. I’d advise her to walk as little as possible.”
“Oh…”
Wen Xiangzhu replied softly, glancing cautiously at Lin Sui. Seeing her classmate’s apparent anger, she lowered her head and fell silent.
After a moment, Lin Sui sighed and walked over to Wen Xiangzhu.
“How did you get hurt?”
“I tripped,” Wen Xiangzhu replied, her eyelashes trembling slightly.
“Really?” Lin Sui looked at her for a while. “Was it at the convenience store? I’ll check the surveillance later.”
Wen Xiangzhu’s expression stiffened. “Just now… I ran into Feng Yue and the others.”
Lin Sui narrowed her eyes. “Did they bully you?”
“Not… exactly,” Wen Xiangzhu said, pursing her lips. “They bumped into me as I was leaving, and I fell, twisting my ankle.”
She paused, sounding a little wronged. “Feng Yue didn’t apologize. She even blamed me for getting her clothes wet and was really mean…”
The infirmary fell silent for a moment.
Lin Sui lowered her gaze, her expression calm and unchanging, as if nothing could disturb her. But those who knew her understood that the calmer she appeared in situations like this, the angrier she actually was.
After a long silence, she sighed silently. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I didn’t want to affect your competition…”
Lin Sui fell silent for a moment, remembering seeing Feng Yue and the others leave the teaching building before the match. That must have been when it happened…
Thinking this, she said softly, “Rest well. Don’t participate in tomorrow’s competition.”
“Okay,” Wen Xiangzhu replied obediently, keeping her head lowered.
Lin Sui couldn’t quite put her feelings into words—part anger, part complexity, part strangeness.
“Sister…” Seeing her about to leave, Wen Xiangzhu immediately grabbed her hand. “Are you angry?”
Lin Sui paused. “No.”
Her gaze drifted downward, taking in the exposed foot below the calf. “I’ll have someone send a wheelchair over.”
Wen Xiangzhu froze. “A wheelchair…?”
“You don’t need one.”
Lin Sui gave her a cool glance.
“How will you walk?”
“I can manage!”
Wen Xiangzhu widened her eyes slightly, as if trying to prove herself. She carefully stood up and hopped a few times on her uninjured leg. “See?”
Lin Sui was silent for a moment.
“You look like a one-legged rabbit.”
Wen Xiangzhu: “……”
“But using a wheelchair seems too extreme. It’s like I have a permanent limp.”
Hearing this, Lin Sui chuckled.
“Don’t you look like you’re limping when you hop around like that? Is it because you just like hopping?”
Wen Xiangzhu fell silent.
Upon reflection, she realized there was some truth to that.
“Enough nonsense.”
Lin Sui glanced at the hand Wen Xiangzhu was still holding onto her. “Let go.”
Wen Xiangzhu blinked, seemingly not realizing what she was doing. Following the direction of her gaze, she finally noticed and quickly released her grip.
Lin Sui turned to leave but suddenly noticed a healthcare worker sitting at the desk, watching them with a popcorn-eating, theater-goer’s expression.
Their eyes met for a few awkward seconds. The healthcare worker cleared their throat and turned back to their desk, looking embarrassed.
After leaving the infirmary, Lin Sui made a call. Before long, a brand-new wheelchair was delivered to her.
Lin Sui wheeled the chair into the infirmary and placed it in front of Wen Xiangzhu. “Sit.”
“Oh…”
Wen Xiangzhu blinked, glanced at the pretty pink wheelchair, and carefully sat down.
“Read the manual yourself.” Lin Sui handed her a small white booklet, sounding annoyed. “I’m not pushing you.”
Wen Xiangzhu hesitated, glancing at the booklet’s cover, then pouted playfully. “Sister, I don’t understand…”
“…”
“Even if you don’t understand, you still have to read it,” Lin Sui said sternly.
“No, Sister, push me!” Wen Xiangzhu tilted her head back slightly, her eyes sparkling.
Lin Sui glanced at her, then quickly averted her gaze.
No way! If people see me pushing Wen Xiangzhu in this wheelchair, it’ll look so awkward!
Absolutely not!
With a tense expression, Lin Sui texted Zhu Huan:
[Bring Lu Xiaomeng to the infirmary.]
[Zhu Zhu Zhu: Huh? Alright.]
*****
After a moment, Zhu Huan arrived with Lu Xiaomeng. They both startled when they saw Wen Xiangzhu sitting in the wheelchair.
“What happened?”
“Sprained her ankle,” Lin Sui replied, then turned to Lu Xiaomeng. “She says she can’t figure out the wheelchair manual. You’re in charge now.”
“Ah… okay,” Lu Xiaomeng mumbled, walking over to Wen Xiangzhu and staring at the wheelchair, her suspicion growing.
It seems… Lin Sui is really taking care of Wen Xiangzhu. She even went to the infirmary to get a wheelchair—and it’s pink?!
This doesn’t make sense…
Zhu Huan wanted to ask more questions, but Lin Sui pulled her out.
“What’s wrong with her? Just a simple sprain?”
“Sort of,” Lin Sui replied coolly.
Zhu Huan: “?”
“Is it or isn’t it?”
“Don’t rush.” Lin Sui narrowed her eyes. “Let’s check the surveillance footage.”
Zhu Huan stared blankly at her, still confused, but agreed: “Ah, okay.”
*****
At school, Lin Sui and Zhu Huan had special privileges compared to ordinary students. The school would go out of its way to accommodate their requests.
Thus, they easily gained access to the surveillance room.
Zhu Huan frowned at the screen, her expression growing colder. “Who the hell is this? She’s clearly used to throwing her weight around. How come I’ve never heard of someone at our school who’s even more arrogant than us?”
Lin Sui fell silent. “What do you mean ‘more arrogant than us’?”
Zhu Huan snorted. “Exactly what I said. Don’t deny it.”
“……”
After a pause, Zhu Huan remarked, “Eh? The one following behind looks a bit like Ye Shuqian.”
Lin Sui, exasperated, quickly changed the subject. “That’s Ye Shuqian. The one leading them is Feng Yue.”
Zhu Huan froze for a moment, then immediately understood. “Oh, I see.”
She sighed, shook her head, and draped an arm over Lin Sui’s shoulder. “Alright, spill it. What’s your plan?”
Lin Sui raised an eyebrow and brushed her arm aside. “I’ve already told Ye Shuqian. She’ll report this to the Dean of Students later.”
“Is this about your supposed ‘early romance’ with Wen Xiangzhu, or the rumors spread by those troublemakers?” Zhu Huan pondered for a moment before asking.
“The ‘early romance’ thing, of course. The bigger the fuss, the better. But make sure you don’t say it was with me—then no one would dare intervene.” Lin Sui smirked, glancing at her. “Also, it’s important to clarify: we’re being accused of an early romance, not actually having one.”
“Alright, alright, alright.” Zhu Huan chuckled at her meticulousness. “So, what’s your plan after you’ve made a scene?”
“Make them get out of school,” Lin Sui said, narrowing her eyes. “Once they’re expelled, we’ll teach them a proper lesson.”
Zhu Huan’s eyes widened slightly, first with confusion, then with amusement. “I see! You really live up to being the heir of Lin Corporation—so thorough!”
“Tsk, stop buttering me up.”
The two left the surveillance room, one after the other. The morning classes had ended, and it was almost lunchtime.
But Lin Sui wasn’t in the mood to eat. She grabbed some snacks from the vending machine and returned to the classroom.
At her desk, Wen Xiangzhu’s chair had been moved to the back of the classroom, replaced by a pink wheelchair.
It looked quite out of place in an ordinary high school classroom.
The classroom was mostly empty. Wen Xiangzhu was slumped over her desk, apparently asleep, with an unfinished practice book propped up beneath her head.
Lin Sui glanced at the commotion briefly before looking away, her movements unconsciously softening.
Just then, her phone beeped once.
Her brow furrowed imperceptibly as she pressed the volume button to lower the sound and glanced up.
The person in front of her merely shifted slightly, remaining asleep.
Relieved, she opened her phone to see a message from Ye Shuqian:
[Ye Shuqian: I’ve already told the Dean of Students. He just called Feng Yue and Lu Rong to his office.]
[Got it.]
Lin Sui replied just as another message arrived:
[Ye Shuqian: Can I come to your class to hide for a while?]
Lin Sui paused, then understood.
Now that Ye Shuqian had reported the post to the Dean of Students, even though she hadn’t specifically mentioned Feng Yue and Lu Rong’s involvement, the Dean might still bring her into the conversation.
With this thought, Lin Sui didn’t hesitate. Her fingers tapped out a reply on the screen:
[Okay, come over now.]
