After Mistakenly Marking Her Stunning Omega Stepsister - Chapter 17
Hearing the voice, Wen Xiangzhu stiffened momentarily before stopping and turning with a smile. “Oh, you’re here.”
“Why are you so late?” Lin Sui frowned, walking over to her. “What do you have there?”
Wen Xiangzhu realized what she’d been holding. “Oh, these are for you—ice sleeves. Put them on before your match.”
She thrust the sleeves into Lin Sui’s arms.
Lin Sui stared blankly, bewildered. She hadn’t expected Wen Xiangzhu to come to the shop just to buy her ice sleeves…
“Come on, we’re running out of time. Go ahead,” Wen Xiangzhu urged with a smile.
Zhu Huan eyed her suspiciously. “What about you? Aren’t you going to watch the match?”
“Of course I am!” Wen Xiangzhu widened her eyes. “I just need to use the restroom first. You guys go ahead without me.”
Zhu Huan accepted this without suspicion. “Alright, but hurry! Suisui, let’s go. We’ll be late if we don’t.”
“Ah… okay.” Lin Sui took a few steps forward, then glanced back at Wen Xiangzhu.
She stood there, smiling and waving them off.
“Go! Hurry up!” Zhu Huan urged.
Lin Sui nodded, withdrew her gaze, and walked away.
When the race began, Wen Xiangzhu finally gritted her teeth through the pain in her ankle and limped to the railing, looking down at Lin Sui on the track.
Lu Xiaomeng ran over with a smile. “Wenwen, look! Lin Sui’s in first place!”
“Mm,” Wen Xiangzhu replied softly, a smile on her face and her eyes shining brightly. “I see.”
The summer track buzzed with voices.
The girl by the railing stood still, her gaze fixed on one person alone—the sister she considered the most amazing.
One lap to go.
Lu Xiaomeng suddenly remembered something and tugged at Wen Xiangzhu’s arm. “Wenwen, do you want to go deliver water?”
“Deliver water?” Wen Xiangzhu paused, then lowered her gaze, looking a little disappointed. “Never mind.”
“Why not?” Lu Xiaomeng asked, puzzled.
Wen Xiangzhu’s eyelashes quivered slightly. She shook her head without answering and looked up again.
The race finished, Lin Sui in first place.
Amid the cheering crowd, Wen Xiangzhu’s sharp eyes caught sight of a girl holding water, waiting by the finish line.
She recognized her. She’d already asked around.
During the last PE class, it was Fan Shihan, the Omega, who gave Lin Sui water.
And as expected, she was also the one who gave her the lemon tea.
Thinking of this, Wen Xiangzhu pressed her lips together, her expression complicated as she watched the starting line.
Lin Sui ran until she was drenched in sweat, and after finishing, she ran as fast as she could to the shade.
Fortunately, apart from being so tired she could barely breathe, she didn’t feel any discomfort.
“Um…”
Lin Sui was resting when a voice suddenly came to her ear.
“This is for you.”
A pair of hands held out a bottle of mineral water in front of her.
Lin Sui didn’t think much of it. She took the water and took a few sips before turning around. “Thanks.”
When she saw the person’s face, she froze. “You…”
“You remember me?” Fan Shihan’s eyes widened slightly as she looked at Lin Sui.
Lin Sui thought for a few seconds. “Weren’t you the one who gave me the wrong drink during the last PE class?”
“Yes, that’s me!”
Fan Shihan looked excited. “I didn’t expect you to remember me.”
Lin Sui choked.
Does she have such a bad memory? Besides, it hasn’t even been a few days.
Just as Lin Sui was thinking this, Fan Shihan spoke again: “And about the last time, the lem…”
A gunshot rang out, drowning out her voice.
A volunteer wearing a red armband approached. “The next round is starting. You should leave the field now.”
“Okay,” Lin Sui replied, leaving the playground and heading toward her class’s spectator seats.
Fan Shihan trailed behind her slowly, not continuing her earlier conversation.
“Um… can I ask you something?” Fan Shihan asked cautiously.
Lin Sui twirled the water bottle in her hand, nonchalantly replying, “Go ahead.”
“What’s your relationship with Wen Xiangzhu?”
Lin Sui’s hand froze mid-turn.
Fan Shihan, looking nervous, quickly added, “I just saw a post on the forum, so… I was curious.”
Lin Sui glanced at her. Considering the water she’d just given her, she held back any harsh words.
“Keep your curiosity in check.”
“Oh…”
Lin Sui didn’t say anything else and quickly walked away.
Speaking of Wen Xiangzhu… she’s usually always following me around like a little tail. Why didn’t she come to deliver water today?
With this question in mind, Lin Sui returned to the spectator seats and sat down next to Zhu Huan.
“Congratulations!” Zhu Huan patted her shoulder. “Are you feeling okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine,” Lin Sui replied, removing the ice sleeve from her arm.
“I checked. The high jump is tomorrow, so you can rest today,” Zhu Huan said, looking down at her phone.
Lin Sui hummed absentmindedly and turned to scan the spectator seats.
Wen Xiangzhu wasn’t here…
She hesitated, glanced at Zhu Huan, and immediately dismissed the idea of asking about her.
If she asked about Wen Xiangzhu now, wouldn’t Zhu Huan tease her all day?
Lin Sui took out her phone and lowered her head to open it.
She found the chat with Wen Xiangzhu.
Where did you go?
She typed a message, but hesitated just before hitting send.
Maybe… Wen Xiangzhu just went to the shop? Or the restroom? Or back to the classroom to rest?
Asking now would make it seem like she really cared about her.
With that thought, Lin Sui deleted everything she had just typed and turned off her phone.
After a moment, she said, “I’m going to the shop.”
“Hmm?” Zhu Huan looked up. “Want me to go with you?”
“No need.” Lin Sui waved her hand and walked toward the teaching building.
The shop wasn’t crowded. When Lin Sui entered, the students inside seemed excited, whispering and tugging at their friends’ arms with smiles.
After looking around and buying a popsicle, Lin Sui left the shop.
She wasn’t here.
Lin Sui felt inexplicably frustrated. She tore open the popsicle wrapper and took a bite as she walked upstairs to the classroom.
But the classroom was empty.
Where else could she have gone?
Lin Sui lowered her head in thought and slowly descended the stairs.
Then she spotted a familiar figure nearby.
“Lu Xiaomeng?”
Lu Xiaomeng stopped walking and turned around, her expression stiffening.
“L-Lin…”
“What’s with the reaction? Am I that scary?”
Lin Sui approached with suspicion and glanced at the door behind Lu Xiaomeng. “What are you doing in the infirmary?”
“I…” Lu Xiaomeng pursed her lips and lowered her gaze, avoiding Lin Sui’s eyes, looking somewhat guilty. “To get medicine.”
“Medicine?”
“Yeah, I’m a little sunburned.”
Hearing this, Lin Sui frowned, staring at Lu Xiaomeng for a moment. Then she tossed the empty popsicle stick she was holding into the nearby trash bin. “Is that so?”
She raised an eyebrow and pointed at Lu Xiaomeng’s empty hands. “Where’s the medicine?”
“……”
