After Mistakenly Marking Her Stunning Omega Stepsister - Chapter 10
Lin Sui’s memory wasn’t bad. Now she remembered why Ye Shuqian looked familiar.
Before the mid-term exam, they’d run into each other at the snack shop. She remembered several girls huddled together, gossiping about Chen Huaxing’s confession to Wen Xiangzhu. Ye Shuqian had been among them.
When Lin Sui spoke, Ye Shuqian, who had been reading with her head down, froze, clearly not expecting to be addressed. She instinctively smoothed her straight bangs before nodding. “Yes, he’s in our class. What about it?”
Xia Yi leaned in. “Sister Sui, are you interested in Chen Huaxing?”
“No,” Lin Sui shook her head. “I just think this guy… he’s really out of line.”
At this, Xia Yi eagerly chimed in, “Exactly! It’s not just me, right?! He looks down his nose at everyone, acting like he’s so important. I can’t stand him!”
She chattered on before suddenly remembering something. “Oh, did you guys see the latest gossip on the forum? That guy got rejected in his confession and then lit himself up on the forum! It was hilarious!”
Zhu Huan joined in enthusiastically, eager to discuss the topic.
Lin Sui listened quietly to the chatter, her gaze lingering on Ye Shuqian, who sat nearby, completely silent. A hint of curiosity flickered in her eyes.
That night, Lin Sui struggled to sleep again.
Being a light sleeper, she and Zhu Huan arrived in class just as the bell rang the next morning.
“Everyone’s here, right?”
Yang Li smiled, resting her hand on the lectern. “Most of our class chose to live in the dorms. This new dorm building…”
******
Lin Sui turned a deaf ear to the chatter, focusing on organizing her desk and backpack. Wen Xiangzhu, seated in front, glanced back at her briefly before turning away.
A moment later, Lin Sui blinked, her hands pausing mid-action.
Why was there a carton of milk in her drawer?
Her brow furrowed slightly as she pondered this. Before she could figure it out, Zhu Huan nudged her with an elbow.
“Not bad! You’re ranked 457th in the grade this time.”
Lin Sui acknowledged the comment, her gaze still puzzled.
“The rankings are out already?”
“Yeah, Mr. Yang is reading our class’s grades aloud.” Zhu Huan leaned back in her chair, propping it up on two legs. “To me, grades don’t really matter. I’m interning at our family company after graduation, starting from the bottom.”
She paused, then turned to Lin Sui. “What about you, Sui Sui? What’s your family planning?”
Lin Sui thought for a moment. “Probably similar to you. I’ll have to gradually take over Lin Corporation.”
However… in her view, Wen Wenfu’s continued presence in the group was a ticking time bomb. She needed time to carefully consider how to deal with him.
As she pondered this, a sudden wave of murmurs rippled through the classroom.
Lin Sui snapped out of her daze and looked around blankly before leaning over to Zhu Huan. “What’s going on?”
Zhu Huan’s eyes widened as she stared at her, then lowered her voice excitedly. “First place! Wen Xiangzhu got the highest grade in the year, beating Chen Huaxing!”
“By just 0.5 points.”
Hearing this, Lin Sui narrowed her eyes slightly, her gaze settling on Wen Xiangzhu’s back ahead.
Who knew? She’s actually pretty impressive.
She looked away, her tone indifferent. “Just 0.5 points? Lucky break, I guess. It might not happen again next time.”
Zhu Huan glanced at her, as if sensing something. She chuckled softly but said nothing more.
When class ended, Zhu Huan took her phone out of her drawer, turned it on, and slid her chair closer to Lin Sui. “Do you remember what Chen Huaxing said on the forum? Let’s see how he’s eating his words today!”
Lin Sui smiled faintly, twirling a ballpoint pen in her hand. Though she made no further move, her attention was subtly drawn to the progress on Zhu Huan’s phone.
Wen Xiangzhu, having finished dealing with classmates in front, turned around and looked at Lin Sui. “Don’t forget to drink your milk.”
Then, as if from nowhere, she produced a piece of candy and gently placed it on Lin Sui’s desk. “It’s chocolate-flavored. Try it.”
Zhu Huan glanced up amid her busy work, her gaze settling on the piece of candy on the desk, a knowing smile playing on her lips.
Lin Sui paused before saying, “If I want it, I’ll buy it myself.”
She took a box of milk from the drawer, placed it on the desk, and pushed it forward. “Take this too.”
Wen Xiangzhu parted her lips slightly, watching Lin Sui silently for a long moment before saying, “I gave it all to you. Why would I take it back now?”
Showing no intention of retrieving the items, she turned away, her mood clearly sour.
Lin Sui watched quietly, her gaze lingering on the back of Wen Xiangzhu’s neck.
The scent gland was concealed by her collar, leaving only a pink corner of the Blocker Patch visible.
“I’m done reading,” Zhu Huan said softly. “Chen Huaxing didn’t dare say anything, and all the replies below were dripping with sarcasm. So satisfying!”
Lin Sui clicked her tongue. “Is this gossip as juicy as they say?”
Zhu Huan blinked in confusion. “Yeah, it is.”
“Alright then.” Lin Sui smirked, shoving the box of milk into Zhu Huan’s hands. “Here you go.”
After a pause, Zhu Huan said, “…I don’t want it.”
Lin Sui tilted her head, studying Zhu Huan.
Zhu Huan sighed and shook her head. “Listen to me, keep it for yourself. You’ll thank me later.”
…?
As if afraid Lin Sui wouldn’t believe her, Zhu Huan added emphatically, “I mean it!”
Lin Sui had eaten both meals at the school cafeteria today. Fighting off sleep, she endured the evening study hall, then returned to the dormitory, washed up, and collapsed into bed.
Zhu Huan sat at her desk, eyes fixed on her phone. “Sister Sui, have you seen Wen Xiangzhu’s chemistry practice book?”
“What?” Lin Sui asked, her eyes heavy with sleep. “Why would I have her practice book?”
Ye Shuqian pushed open the dormitory door and overheard the question. Her movements froze momentarily before she lowered her head and silently returned to her desk. She absentmindedly opened her phone, her gaze unfocused.
“She’s asking me,” Zhu Huan said, glancing briefly at Ye Shuqian. “Let me ask if you’ve seen it.”
“Why doesn’t she just ask you herself?” Lin Sui grumbled. “Why make me pass the message?”
Lin Sui paused, then slowly sat up.
It’s probably because they haven’t exchanged contact information.
At this thought, Lin Sui’s mind cleared a little.
“Wait, how did you even become her friend?”
Zhu Huan chuckled. “We added each other on the first day of school.”
Perhaps afraid Lin Sui would misunderstand, she added, “We haven’t actually talked. We haven’t exchanged a single message.”
Lin Sui raised an eyebrow, shifting her gaze uneasily. “What does this have to do with me?”
Zhu Huan chuckled again, glanced at her phone, then walked over to Lin Sui. She tapped the screen and pressed the phone to Lin Sui’s ear.
A sweet, soft voice came from the speaker:
“Sister, I’m really in a rush. Could you please help me look for it?”
Lin Sui: “……”
“Want to check? She sounds really worried,” Zhu Huan said, tilting her head with a smile.
“Fine.”
Lin Sui shot Zhu Huan a resentful glare, reluctantly agreeing.
She got up and walked to the desk, rummaging through her backpack. Surprisingly, she actually found the chemistry practice book with Wen Xiangzhu’s name written on it.
She was a little dazed.
“Wait, her practice book is actually here with me.”
Unable to resist, Ye Shuqian glanced over, shifted her posture, and tapped her fingers rhythmically on the screen.
The door swung open again as Xia Yi strode in, her backpack slung over her shoulder. “What the hell is this thing you’re so smug about?” she snapped.
“What’s wrong?” Zhu Huan asked, turning to look with curiosity.
Xia Yi sighed and closed the door behind her. “It’s that Chen Huaxing from Puxin A again. That mediocre Alpha thinks he’s better than me!”
“When the monthly exam results came out today, I went to congratulate him on being second in the grade, and he starts snapping at me, saying that my eternal second-place spot has now dropped to third!”
Lin Sui was momentarily stunned, then burst out laughing. “That’s ridiculous! Xia Yi’s an outstanding Alpha! How dare he!”
“And then?” Zhu Huan pressed, eager for more.
Xia Yi hmphed. “He couldn’t overpower me with his pheromones and refused to apologize, so his little fan girl jumped in, throwing out snide remarks left and right.”
“…”
As she spoke, she glared at Ye Shuqian in the corner, her expression darkening.
“A little crush?” Lin Sui said, sounding surprised. “He actually has a little crush?”
“Yeah, that girl who’s always liked him. Ugh, just talking about her annoys me.” Xia Yi glanced at Ye Shuqian and waved her hand dismissively. “Forget it, let’s not talk about her.”
Zhu Huan smiled and glanced at her phone. “Wen Xiangzhu says she’s coming to pick up the practice book.”
Lin Sui froze. “She’s coming? An Omega coming to the Alpha dorm? And how does she even know which dorm we’re in?”
“I told her,” Zhu Huan said, looking at Lin Sui.
Lin Sui: “……”
Fine, let her come. At least she’ll save some walking and get to sleep sooner.
Just as she was thinking this, Xia Yi frowned. “Wen Xiangzhu? The one Chen Huaxing likes?”
“Exactly,” Zhu Huan replied. “The Omega Chen Huaxing can’t have, and also the one who outscored him in the monthly exam to become the top student in our grade.”
“Wow, this is like a power fantasy!” Xia Yi laughed excitedly. “I need to get to know her better and drive that Chen guy crazy!”
Lin Sui sat down at the desk with her practice book. On the first page, Wen Xiangzhu’s name was written in neat, elegant handwriting.
It was just a plain practice book, something everyone had, but she found herself staring at it, lost in thought.
She quickly snapped out of it, realizing she’d been spacing out over a mere practice book, and felt a little self-conscious.
Now wide awake, she set the book aside, thinking she should do something.
She couldn’t just sit and wait, could she?
With that thought, Lin Sui picked up her phone, but as she stared at the screen, she didn’t know what to do. Her gaze drifted, and her fingertips aimlessly swiped across the home screen, feeling restless.
She felt inexplicably irritable, glancing toward the door from time to time before silently withdrawing her gaze and continuing to swipe on her phone.
Suddenly, someone knocked on the dormitory door.
Lin Sui straightened up slightly, but before she could move, Xia Yi went to answer it.
“Hello, I’m here to see Lin Sui.”
Wen Xiangzhu stood outside the door, her hair loose and a light yellow short-sleeved shirt draped over her shoulders.
“Oh, alright.” Xia Yi smiled and called out, “Sister Sui, someone’s here for you.”
Turning back to Wen Xiangzhu, she added, “So, you got first place in the grade again this time, right? That’s amazing!”
“It was just luck,” Wen Xiangzhu replied with a small smile.
“Ah, you’re too humble! You know, ‘there’s no comparison without contrast,’ right?” Xia Yi glanced at Wen Xiangzhu, her irritation flaring as she recalled Chen Huaxing’s smug expression.
“Chen Huaxing is a jerk. You’re absolutely right to ignore him! You did the right thing! Oh, by the way, I’m Xia Yi…”
Before Xia Yi could finish her chatter, Lin Sui had already approached and handed Wen Xiangzhu a practice book.
“Don’t take it without permission again.”
“Right, I won’t,” Wen Xiangzhu replied, looking a little embarrassed as she nodded.
Xia Yi scratched the back of her head, realizing she might have talked too much. “Um, why don’t you come in and sit for a while?”
“Why would I sit? Is that proper?”
Lin Sui raised an eyebrow and glanced at Xia Yi before turning to Wen Xiangzhu. “Alright, grab your things and head back quickly.”
“Okay, I’m off. Thanks, Sister Sui, Sister Zhu, and Sister Xia Yi. See you later.”
“Bye, bye! Remember to text us when you get back to your dorm,” Xia Yi said cheerfully, waving goodbye to Wen Xiangzhu. After closing the door, she sighed, “That girl is so sweet.”
Zhu Huan chuckled. “Yeah, too sweet.”
Ye Shuqian had already climbed into bed and drawn the curtains. She stared quietly at her phone, which displayed a chat window.
The last message read:
She’s already gone.
