After Losing My Memory, I Went After My Archenemy - Chapter 24
A new Monday arrived.
Xia Rou couldn’t wait to complain to Shen Miao about the incident from last night first thing in the morning.
“Don’t you think Jiang Manqing did that on purpose? Is she trying to demonstrate something, or is she showing off? As if not everyone has been to Lin Xi’s house!”
“But I’ve only been there once too, and I didn’t even take a photo at her place. Why can she, ahhhhh!”
“I’m so jealous, I didn’t even sleep well all night.”
Listening to her rant, Shen Miao simply instigated, “Then you should go again! She dares to show off, and you dare to declare your sovereignty. Who’s afraid of whom?”
“Should I really go? I’m suddenly a bit scared…”
“Bring out the boldness you had before when you were trying to get face time with Lin Xi!” Shen Miao encouraged.
Xia Rou immediately deflated, “It’s different. Going to her house is like meeting the parents, I’ll be nervous, I will definitely be nervous! Why don’t you come with me?”
“Wouldn’t that be inappropriate?”
Realizing the situation was turning sour, Shen Miao retreated step by step.
“Please, come with me just this once, just this once!”
Xia Rou wheedled Shen Miao all day, and finally, she agreed to accompany her for one visit.
With limited time after school, there was no time for leisurely shopping. Xia Rou could only go to a nearby mall to pick out a tie for Lin Xi’s uncle, and then went to an imported goods supermarket to buy a gift basket.
“Are you sure, you absolutely must buy, buy such a huge fruit basket?” Shen Miao said hesitantly.
The taxi could only stop at the alley entrance, and after being dropped off, the two of them had to carry the enormous gift basket all the way.
“I thought that for the first visit, it shouldn’t be too shabby, so I simply asked the clerk to wrap up the biggest basket for me,” Xia Rou said with a wry smile.
“It’s just a simple visit, but you’re making it look like you’re going to propose marriage,” Shen Miao couldn’t help but complain.
“That’s nowhere near the same. If it really were a marriage proposal, I wouldn’t dare bring only this much,” Xia Rou replied.
Shen Miao: “…”
She was speechless.
Hearing the commotion at the door, Zhou Mingde immediately put down his research glasses and ran to check.
“You are, you’re the girl my niece brought back last time!” Zhou Mingde recognized her at a glance and was overjoyed.
Shen Miao, on the side, alertly looked at Xia Rou, her eyes seemingly asking, When did that happen!
“Hello, Uncle. I came to thank Lin Xi for her help and to visit you, too. This is just a small token of appreciation.”
Xia Rou was holding the fruit basket, which weighed dozens of pounds, and her physical strength was almost at its limit.
Zhou Mingde finally realized and immediately stepped forward to help, easily taking the load with almost one hand.
“Come in, come in quickly, both of you. Xi Xi went out to buy soy sauce. Just sit down for a bit.”
“Is Lin Xi the one who cooks at home?” Xia Rou asked in surprise.
“Sometimes it’s her, sometimes it’s me. It mainly depends on who is free,” the man explained with a laugh.
“Uncle, all the things in your shop are so unique, may I take a look?” Xia Rou asked.
Facing the girl’s intimate form of address, Zhou Mingde was momentarily stunned, then readily agreed.
Shen Miao couldn’t help but mutter to herself, She’s already calling him ‘Uncle’ so quickly. It seems she’s adapting quite well; she doesn’t even need me to accompany her for moral support.
Xia Rou walked around the shop. When she reached the spot where Jiang Manqing took her selfie, she stopped, took out her phone, and captured a photo with the exact same background.
“Uncle Zhou, my aunt brought some organic vegetables from the countryside again. My mom told me to…”
Shen Xuan, who was just stepping into the antique shop, looked up and was startled into forgetting what she was going to say next when she saw the two other Omegas inside.
“Hey, Shen Xuan, you came just in time. Xi Xi has two classmates here. Stay and eat with us tonight!” Zhou Mingde enthusiastically called out.
The rooftop, the night sky, the colored lights, the dining table, and the silent, wide-eyed stares.
Lin Xi didn’t know how it happened. She just went out to buy soy sauce, and suddenly, there were three extra people for dinner tonight.
She could understand her uncle inviting Shen Xuan, but what was going on with the other two?
Faced with her niece’s questioning gaze, Zhou Mingde decisively avoided it and, as the only elder present, shouted, “Don’t be shy, treat this like your own home.”
“Mm, I haven’t tasted Lin Xi’s cooking yet,” Xia Rou was the first to pick up her chopsticks.
Shen Xuan couldn’t help but nudge Lin Xi next to her with her elbow, asking in a near whisper, “What’s going on?”
Lin Xi turned her eyes toward her, the helplessness in her eyes seeming to say, How should I know?
Everyone ate, drank, and chatted, quickly getting familiar, at least not as awkward as at the start.
As dinner was winding down and the beer was finished, Zhou Mingde, noticing that his niece had barely interacted with the Omegas all evening, decided to create a chance for them to be alone.
“Xi Xi, the beer is out. Why don’t you and your classmates go fetch some up here?”
“Uncle Zhou, let me go,” Shen Xuan volunteered.
“I’ll go too,” Shen Miao raised her hand. She felt like a third wheel and thought an excuse to leave would be good, otherwise, Xia Rou’s plan for today would be for nothing.
Everyone was so enthusiastic. Zhou Mingde was pleased but also troubled. After some thought, he said, “I feel like having some dried beef jerky from the convenience store at the alley entrance. It’s perfect for drinking.”
“Uncle, I’ll go buy it,” Xia Rou offered proactively, hoping to leave a good impression on the elder.
Zhou Mingde hadn’t expected the girl to be so eager. This made things easier for the next step, so he added, “Xi Xi, you go with her. You know the way better.”
Lin Xi knew her uncle’s temper; he wouldn’t stop until he achieved his goal. If she didn’t go out alone with Xia Rou tonight, she feared he would have an endless supply of tricks.
“Got it,” Lin Xi replied plainly.
The two came down from the building and walked side-by-side. Hearing the sound of dogs barking from the end of the alley, with occasional people strolling by, Xia Rou suddenly felt that this kind of ordinary life was simple but not without its beauty.
“I didn’t expect your cooking to be quite good,” she smiled and proactively started the conversation.
“It’s just average.”
“No, it really is very delicious. It’s simple home cooking, and it has a sense of… home.”
“…A sense of home?” Lin Xi unexpectedly turned her head to look at the girl beside her.
“You know, my family has always had professional chefs cooking. It’s not bad, but there’s always a kind of… very industrialized flavor. But your food is different; it makes a person feel like they want to, want to spend their life with you.”
Xia Rou tried hard to describe it, but she embarrassingly stopped talking after accidentally revealing her inner thoughts.
As expected, Lin Xi was silent after hearing it, making the atmosphere even more awkward.
Xia Rou nervously fiddled with her fingers, wondering how to break the stalemate.
“We’re here,” Lin Xi said calmly.
“Ah, it’s so close!”
Xia Rou rushed into the convenience store, leaving the other girl behind.
Watching the sight of the other girl’s hurried escape, Lin Xi’s lips curled up into a slight arc, so subtle that she didn’t even notice it herself.
“Huh, how come everyone’s gone?”
Looking at the empty rooftop, Xia Rou felt a bit strange.
Lin Xi also felt odd. She hadn’t noticed any movement inside the house when they came up. Could they have all gone out?
Xia Rou sat back down on the chair, using this opportunity to edit her blog and post a beautiful set of nine photos: a selfie at Lin Xi’s house, the dinner she made, the beautiful rooftop night view, and so on. She felt certain this would be a major blow to Jiang Manqing.
Sure enough, ten minutes after she posted the update, Jiang Manqing, who was secretly following her with a secondary account, saw the photos. She immediately became so angry that she shook all over and violently threw her phone onto the floor.
After posting the blog, Xia Rou put down her phone. As she turned, she saw an extremely beautiful starry sky and spontaneously stood up.
“It’s so beautiful. I’ve never seen such a beautiful night sky in my life. The stars are so bright, twinkling.”
She walked towards the edge of the railing as she spoke, even actively climbing onto the two steps there, attempting to stand higher.
Unexpectedly, the next second, she accidentally knocked over a flower pot placed on the railing. Worried that it would fall, she hurriedly reached out to grab it, but her footing slipped, and she was in danger of falling off the roof.
“Be careful!”
Lin Xi rushed forward immediately.
She grabbed the person, but Xia Rou turned and fell towards her. Under the huge and sudden gravitational force, Lin Xi couldn’t maintain a stable footing, and the two of them fell down together.
Seeing Xia Rou falling on top of her and about to accidentally kiss her on the lips, Lin Xi quickly turned her face away.
Then… the soft lips landed squarely on her cheek.
