After Losing My Memory, I Suddenly Had A Fiancée - Chapter 8
But now was not the time to consider that.
Thinking that Jiang Zhi and her cousin would arrive soon, Ji Fanghuai nervously asked, “Is Jiang Zhi’s cousin easy to get along with?”
“So that’s what you were worried about?” Xin Ling chuckled. “You don’t have to worry about that at all. Her cousin is quite easy to get along with, speaks very little, but is gentle and soft-spoken—the kind of elder sister everyone likes.”
“Then are Jiang Zhi’s parents easy to get along with?” Ji Fanghuai decided to ask everything at once. Since Xin Ling was so familiar with Jiang Zhi, she should know the situation.
“Her parents…” Xin Ling immediately fell silent. She was casual about minor matters but very measured on important ones.
Seeing her suddenly sit up straight with an extremely serious expression, Ji Fanghuai tentatively asked, “Are her parents difficult to get along with?”
Xin Ling seemed hesitant, then finally said, “Hasn’t Jiang Zhi told you yet? Her parents passed away a long time ago.”
“How could that be…” Ji Fanghuai was even more shocked, more shocked than hearing her parents were gone.
“Her father passed away early,” Xin Ling said carefully. “Jiang Zhi lived with her biological mother and stepfather. Later, her biological mother also passed away, so she lived with her stepfather and stepmother. In short, she’s had a rough life, and the relationship with her family wasn’t good when she grew up, so she became independent on her own.”
Ji Fanghuai had never imagined Jiang Zhi’s childhood was so tragic.
Xin Ling continued, “During university, she didn’t even have a friend she could talk to, and she was just breaking free from her family. Fortunately, her stepfather was somewhat decent and didn’t shortchange her financially. Things only got better after you two started dating. She said you are the little sun in her heart.”
So, this was what Jiang Zhi meant by “sun” before.
Ji Fanghuai felt a little shy, and at the same time, her heart ached for Jiang Zhi.
“Later, with my help, she successfully started her own business, so she’s now a relatively successful small boss.” Xin Ling didn’t forget to praise herself. “Her current relatives are limited to her grandparents on both sides, but the people she’s truly close to are likely only her cousin’s family.”
When Jiang Zhi returned, she noticed that the way Ji Fanghuai looked at her was different.
Xin Ling was still mindlessly playing on her phone, claiming it was to contribute to internal testing for the company’s game.
The cousin, Shen Jing, was a university professor, exuding a scholarly aura.
“Cousin,” Ji Fanghuai said in a well-behaved manner. Her current mindset was that even though she had amnesia, the fact that she was Jiang Zhi’s fiancée still held true.
Shen Jing was already aware of Ji Fanghuai’s amnesia and didn’t deliberately ask anything else, simply smiling at her.
Ji Fanghuai sharply noticed that a faint sadness was perpetually gathered between the cousin’s brows.
Aunt Chu went to cook, and the four of them chatted in the living room.
Xin Ling’s topics were mostly about fun places and complaining that their round-the-world trip had been interrupted by the unreliable Jiang Zhi.
“If I had known about Fanghuai earlier, I definitely wouldn’t have gone on that trip,” Xin Ling said, sounding sincere. “But Fanghuai, your luck is really too bad.”
Ji Fanghuai knew Xin Ling was exaggerating but was still happy that Xin Ling cared about her so much.
She smiled and said, “I don’t know either. In fact, I even forgot how I got hit.”
“It’s better to forget; otherwise, it might leave psychological trauma,” Jiang Zhi’s face looked troubled, possibly recalling the scene.
Ji Fanghuai felt the same way; a misfortune might turn into a blessing.
“How are you planning to handle the perpetrator?” At this point, the cousin, Shen Jing, suddenly spoke up.
“The perpetrator’s family wants an out-of-court settlement, thinking it was an accident. But how could we possibly settle? This was an intentional injury.” Jiang Zhi’s tone was hostile; clearly, she wouldn’t let the perpetrator off the hook.
“An out-of-court settlement? There’s no such good thing,” Xin Ling scoffed. “Just name an amount they can’t afford. Then they won’t even think about settling out of court.”
“Compensation and a criminal offense aren’t mutually exclusive,” Jiang Zhi said nonchalantly. When her eyes met Ji Fanghuai’s, she immediately reverted to her usual gentle demeanor.
Shen Jing observed everything and said, “I know a lawyer in this area. I can introduce you to them.”
“Thank you, Cousin,” Ji Fanghuai couldn’t help but listen attentively to the conversation, as it was all about her.
Shen Jing said faintly, “You’re welcome.”
After the four of them finished dinner, Xin Ling complained she was exhausted and, without any hesitation, claimed the guest room.
Meanwhile, Shen Jing had a familiar, earnest conversation with Jiang Zhi, giving her instructions. However, she was somewhat deliberately cold toward Ji Fanghuai.
Ji Fanghuai sensed this.
She thought that since her cousin was essentially “family on the groom’s side,” it seemed pretty normal for her to be cold to her.
“Make time to go home and visit your maternal grandparents,” the cousin looked at Ji Fanghuai with an ambiguous expression. “Bring Fanghuai.”
Jiang Zhi agreed, “We’ll go back when Fanghuai is feeling better.”
Although there were many issues in this house, the feeling of being back home was still excellent. At least this felt like home, not the sterile whiteness of a hospital.
Ji Fanghuai wondered if she and her cousin had some sort of falling out, but it was just her cousin, after all, and she had forgotten everything anyway.
The person she was going to spend her life with wasn’t the cousin.
Since Xin Ling had already claimed the guest room, and the other bedroom had been converted into a study, Ji Fanghuai had to be prepared to sleep in the master bedroom with Jiang Zhi.
Ji Fanghuai realized that after learning about Jiang Zhi’s unfortunate childhood, she seemed more accepting of the idea of them living together.
“I asked the doctor; you can take a shower, you don’t need to just do a sponge bath, but I’m worried you might accidentally faint,” Jiang Zhi said, looking intently at Ji Fanghuai, seeming somewhat pleased.
Ji Fanghuai was puzzled, then realized what was going on.
Was Jiang Zhi planning to watch her shower?
She quickly said, “I see there’s a bathtub in the bathroom. Even if I faint, I’ll just faint in the bathtub. I’ll be fine.”
After she spoke, she saw the light dim in Jiang Zhi’s eyes.
For some reason, Ji Fanghuai felt a little guilty. She knew Jiang Zhi was worried about her, afraid she might have an accident.
But her reaction just now was a bit strong, and Jiang Zhi might have misunderstood.
She was so thin now, with only a small amount of flesh on her chest, and she didn’t even have any hair, so what was there to see? Besides, she had been seen naked many times during her hospital stay.
Ji Fanghuai explained, “I just want to try it myself.”
“Then I’ll stay outside. Don’t lock the door, and don’t wash your hair yet. If anything happens, call me. Only then will I be at ease,” Jiang Zhi was still very worried, so Ji Fanghuai had no choice but to agree.
Before entering the bathroom, Jiang Zhi put a shower cap on Ji Fanghuai to prevent water from wetting her hair. Although she had been discharged and the doctor said it was okay to wash her hair, she still needed to be careful.
Ji Fanghuai lay in the bathtub but didn’t dare to fully relax, constantly glancing at the bathroom door. Because the door wasn’t tightly closed, she worried that Jiang Zhi might suddenly burst in.
She knew she was speculating about Jiang Zhi again.
Jiang Zhi wasn’t an old pervert; there was no need for her to do such a thing.
Although she thought this way, Ji Fanghuai still lacked a sense of security and remained cautious while soaking in the bath.
After finishing her bath, Ji Fanghuai felt as if her entire body had been cleansed, feeling refreshed and invigorated.
When she came out, Jiang Zhi was indeed guarding the door. Only when she saw her emerge completely unharmed did she relax, then immediately her gaze fixed on Ji Fanghuai.
Ji Fanghuai clutched her bath robe tighter, a slight blush creeping onto her face, and deliberately asked, “What are you looking at?”
Jiang Zhi came back to her senses, acting as if nothing had happened, and said, “You sit down first. I’m going to take a bath, and I’ll come wash your hair in a moment.”
Ji Fanghuai said, “Okay.”
Jiang Zhi quickly entered the bathroom. Through the frosted glass, Ji Fanghuai could see Jiang Zhi’s graceful figure, which made her slightly question things.
Why wasn’t Jiang Zhi using the bathtub?
Perhaps it was to save time, given that she was a patient and needed constant care.
Jiang Zhi’s care was so meticulous that Ji Fanghuai didn’t feel any discomfort at all, only that this was how things should be between them. If the injured person were Jiang Zhi, she definitely wouldn’t have so many thoughts.
Thinking this way, Ji Fanghuai finally felt relieved and peacefully accepted Jiang Zhi’s care.
Since Ji Fanghuai’s hair was short, she changed into her pajamas and sat on the fabric sofa at the foot of the bed. The sound of running water in the bathroom continued until the bathroom door opened.
Jiang Zhi was wrapped in a pure white bath towel. She herself was incredibly fair, a standard cool white skin tone, a color almost indistinguishable from the bath towel.
Her chest was like piled snow on a hibiscus, its curves faintly visible. Ji Fanghuai quickly looked away, not daring to stare.
Jiang Zhi’s dark hair was dripping wet, giving her a distinctive allure. The moment Ji Fanghuai looked away; Jiang Zhi’s expression showed a hint of disappointment.
Ji Fanghuai handed a towel to Jiang Zhi: “Dry off.”
She didn’t have any hair to dry, so she just sat there.
Jiang Zhi naturally took the towel, sat on the sofa, and started drying herself. The bedroom had a projector installed.
Jiang Zhi softly asked, “Want to watch a movie?”
“Anything is fine.”
Ji Fanghuai felt the atmosphere was too strange. It was only their first day out of the hospital, yet it felt like the first time a young couple was checking into a hotel.
However, her relationship with Jiang Zhi didn’t require a hotel room. Even if Jiang Zhi wanted to have her way with her right now, Ji Fanghuai felt she had no grounds to object.
