After Losing My Memory, I Suddenly Had A Fiancée - Chapter 7
After Jiang Zhi called out a few times, a chubby orange cat leaped out from the balcony. Accompanied by “meow meow meow” sounds, it rushed toward Ji Fanghuai.
The moment she saw the cat, Ji Fanghuai realized it was a false alarm, yet she felt her imagination had run wild.
She dared not let Jiang Zhi know about her embarrassing mental jump, so she pretended to be calm while looking at the orange cat.
The orange cat was trying to jump into Ji Fanghuai’s arms. Jiang Zhi, with a quick hand, grabbed its scruff—the source of its fate—and lifted the cat, which looked to weigh seven or eight pounds. She said, “No running over, Mommy is sick.”
Ji Fanghuai, who had been called Mommy, blushed and felt very awkward, but she also felt a strong sense that she must like cats very much.
“Is this our cat?” Jiang Zhi had never mentioned it, so Ji Fanghuai had no idea the cat existed.
“Xixi used to be a stray cat that you brought home,” Jiang Zhi explained patiently. The cat, Xixi, was still struggling and meowing under her control.
It actually looked a little fierce.
Ji Fanghuai tentatively reached out and stroked Xixi’s head. The creature instantly became incredibly docile.
It felt genuinely like a home; they had a child and family.
Ji Fanghuai said, “I want to hold it.”
Jiang Zhi placed the now-quiet cat onto the sofa.
Ji Fanghuai gently stroked the cat, and Xixi let out a purring sound on her lap.
The little assistant was very good at reading the situation and said, “CEO Jiang, if there’s nothing else, I’ll head back now.”
Jiang Zhi calmly replied, “Hmm. Take a week off.”
“Thank you, CEO Jiang.” After the assistant happily left, there were only one cat and two people left in the living room. The love in Jiang Zhi’s eyes for Ji Fanghuai was almost overflowing.
Ji Fanghuai was also a little unsure what to do. The hospital was the hospital, but this was home, and everything was different here.
This place meant more things would happen, and it also held their shared memories.
Although it was shameful to admit, Ji Fanghuai had been avoiding the subject of her amnesia.
In the hospital, she was a patient, which allowed her to effectively forget her other identity: Jiang Zhi’s fiancée. But at home, she had to face the fact that she was Jiang Zhi’s fiancée.
She felt quite nervous.
“Are you nervous?” Jiang Zhi suddenly asked.
Ji Fanghuai awkwardly touched the tip of her nose: “Mm, it feels very unfamiliar, yet also very familiar.”
The entire room felt unfamiliar, but the decor and layout of the room felt familiar. She knew it was a contradiction, but that was how she felt at the moment.
“You’ll get used to it after a while,” Jiang Zhi comforted her.
Ji Fanghuai could only try to comfort herself the same way.
Before long, Xin Ling also arrived, and sure enough, she had brought all her luggage.
“Fanghuai is discharged! We should hold a grand feast to celebrate at our house!” Xin Ling’s opening line was astonishing.
The thought of that scene made Ji Fanghuai shudder. She didn’t know how to face Jiang Zhi’s family.
Her own family was gone, but Jiang Zhi certainly still had parents. They were fiancées, and they might have a wedding and get married at any time.
Problems seemed to be coming thick and fast. Ji Fanghuai even though staying in the hospital had been quite nice.
“Don’t worry about any of that. She’s just talking nonsense,” Jiang Zhi said softly, noticing Ji Fanghuai’s concern, and reassuring her.
“She’s never stayed home quietly for a whole year. She’s always out clubbing or hot-air ballooning. One moment she wants to go to the African savanna to see lions, the next she wants to go to the South Pole to see penguins. These activities are risky. When has our family not been praying for her safe return?”
Ji Fanghuai turned her head to look at Xin Ling. She actually found herself quite drawn to that kind of life.
“That’s called extreme sports, it’s called having an adventurous spirit,” Xin Ling grumbled, collapsing onto the sofa. “Your cousin wants to come see Fanghuai in a bit. Go pick her up yourself.”
“How did she know?” Jiang Zhi’s eyes swept over Xin Ling.
Xin Ling guiltily made a gesture: “We happened to run into each other, so…”
“I’ll go pick up Cousin,” Jiang Zhi told Ji Fanghuai. “You can familiarize yourself with the house first. You can pretend Xin Ling doesn’t exist.”
“Okay.” Ji Fanghuai smiled apologetically at Xin Ling, who was listening intently nearby. Jiang Zhi added, “If you get tired, go to the bedroom to sleep.”
“Mm.” Ji Fanghuai hugged the orange cat like a good child.
“Go on! Am I going to eat Fanghuai or something?” Xin Ling couldn’t bear to watch any longer.
After Jiang Zhi left with the keys, Ji Fanghuai did want to get familiar with the house. She put the cat on the sofa and said to Xin Ling, “Miss Xin, please make yourself at home.”
Xin Ling insisted on teasing her, saying, “You should call me Sister.”
What nonsense was this? Ji Fanghuai took the middle ground and said, “Sister Xin, I’m going to look around first.”
“Go ahead.” Xin Ling waved her hand, granting her an unofficial pardon, and then sat down at the bar, casually pouring herself some red wine.
She was in a tracksuit today, and holding a stemmed wine glass while drinking red wine gave her a unique charm.
Ji Fanghuai first went to the master bedroom. The first thing that caught her eye was the warmly decorated large bed, with an off-white four-piece set, a seven-star ceiling light, and an oversized French window.
All of these features matched her preferences.
The moment she entered, she felt immense warmth. Ji Fanghuai just wanted to nestle in the bed and go nowhere else.
She carefully lay down on the bed. The soft mattress allowed her body and mind to relax, and she felt an urge to take a nap.
On the bedside table, there was a photo frame containing her picture. In the photo, she had long hair down to her waist, wore a pure white long dress, and smiled sweetly, with two faint dimples at the corners of her mouth.
It was only then that Ji Fanghuai realized she was quite beautiful.
Because the walls of the bedroom were covered with her photos.
There were pictures of her back, her full face, and her profile.
Ji Fanghuai began to feel strange because there were no photos of Jiang Zhi. Did Jiang Zhi dislike being photographed?
She hadn’t even seen any photos of them together. Puzzled, Ji Fanghuai sat up and opened the bedside drawer, finally finding Jiang Zhi’s photo in an album.
A slightly youthful face, very different from now, suggesting it was taken when she was a teenager.
There were no other photos. Ji Fanghuai felt a little disappointed; she wanted to see what Jiang Zhi looked like as a child.
A beautiful young woman must have been a beautiful child.
Ji Fanghuai boredly put the photos back in place when a delicate little box caught her attention.
She subconsciously felt she shouldn’t open it, but since it was placed in the bedside table, it must belong to both of them, and Jiang Zhi wouldn’t be afraid of her finding it.
Ji Fanghuai picked up the small box. Inside lay a pair of platinum rings, finely crafted, with tiny symbols engraved on the inner band—simple drawings of both their profiles.
Ji Fanghuai stared at the pair of rings, guessing they were undoubtedly their engagement rings.
She carefully put the rings back in place, and then finally spotted a photo of the two of them in a hidden corner.
It was a very intimate photo. In the picture, she and Jiang Zhi were almost cheek-to-cheek, smiling so broadly that their under-eye bags laugh lines showed.
It was rare to see Jiang Zhi smiling so openly. Ji Fanghuai felt happy just looking at it.
She didn’t know why Jiang Zhi kept this photo so hidden, but both she and Jiang Zhi looked very happy in the picture.
If she had worried before that she might not be Jiang Zhi’s fiancée, she was now absolutely certain: they were indeed fiancées.
A weight seemed to lift from Ji Fanghuai’s heart. She put everything back in its original position.
In the wardrobe opposite the bed, the clothes were clearly separated: warm and cool color schemes shared the same space.
The bedroom continuously told Ji Fanghuai that this was once a paradise for two, that countless beautiful memories and the atmosphere of life between her and Jiang Zhi were left here, and that they would spend the rest of their lives here.
In the hospital, she and Jiang Zhi felt like strangers who were tied together, but at home, she finally felt their relationship as fiancées.
Ji Fanghuai decided to begin accepting this identity.
After the master bedroom, she moved on to the study.
The study was lined with many books, roughly divided into two sides. One side contained books on mystery, horror, and suspense, with the most prominent being a complete collection of detective novels by the British Queen of Crime, Agatha Christie.
Ji Fanghuai knew immediately that this was her bookshelf, as the titles immediately looked interesting to her, and she felt an urge to take a book down and read it.
The other side contained books on gaming, psychology, world classics, and even carving.
Does Jiang Zhi carve?
Ji Fanghuai recalled how excellent Jiang Zhi’s hands were when she washed her hair, and carving requires precise control over strength.
Ji Fanghuai looked around and indeed found a half-finished sculpture made of rain flower stone on the long desk.
It looked like a little pig.
Ji Fanghuai remembered that she was born in the Year of the Pig, but then immediately thought she was being too self-centered; maybe Jiang Zhi just liked pigs.
However, Jiang Zhi seemed like a treasure chest. Ji Fanghuai found that as long as she was willing to explore, Jiang Zhi had endless riches waiting for her.
Ji Fanghuai returned to the living room. Xin Ling was no longer drinking but was sprawled on the sofa, playing on her phone.
“That girl finally decided to change the decor.”
“Huh?” As soon as Ji Fanghuai sat down, Xixi burrowed into her arms, forcing her to pet the cat.
Xin Ling never held back from complaining about Jiang Zhi, and immediately said, “Jiang Zhi has another property in City A. This house was bought after you two moved in together. Her previous house’s decor made you feel like you wanted to be frigid.”
“That exaggerated?” Ji Fanghuai was shocked.
They were currently in City A, where housing prices were quite expensive. Ji Fanghuai was surprised that Jiang Zhi owned more than one property here.
Is the gaming industry that profitable?
“Not exaggerated. You’ll see when you visit her other place. Jiang Zhi herself is quite frigid,” Xin Ling mercilessly complained. “It just doesn’t seem that way when she’s around you.”
Ji Fanghuai: “…”
She felt that Xin Ling definitely had a bias against Jiang Zhi. In her opinion, Jiang Zhi had always been gentle and also liked to be physically affectionate with her. How could she be frigid?
When Jiang Zhi secretly kissed her, she was actually worried that Jiang Zhi might take her right then and there.
