After Losing My Memory, I Suddenly Had A Fiancée - Chapter 6
“Don’t listen to her, call me big sister,” Xin Ling was still egging her on.
Ji Fanghuai, however, listened to Jiang Zhi and obediently kept her mouth shut, looking at Xin Ling with great apology.
Xin Ling left with a grudge.
She came and left in a flurry, waving her sleeve without taking anything away, but leaving behind a pile of supplements.
Jiang Zhi seemed ashamed of her own pettiness for not letting Ji Fanghuai call someone else “sister,” and kept her face turned away from Ji Fanghuai.
Ji Fanghuai also hadn’t expected Jiang Zhi to be so particular about such small things sometimes, but then thought it might be their little quirk or fondness for their relationship.
Xin Ling was like a seasoning, adding some flavor to the hospital room, which then became placid once they were alone again.
Jiang Zhi looked over the supplements Xin Ling had brought, one by one, shaking her head and saying, “Most of these can’t be eaten. She’s completely clueless about daily life; these are all for the elderly.”
Ji Fanghuai: “…”
She could already imagine Xin Ling going to the supplement store, grandly waving her hand, and telling the clerk to bring out all the brain-boosting supplements—such a bold and unrefined gesture.
In contrast, Jiang Zhi was perfect in everyday life, thoughtful and meticulous.
Xin Ling’s arrival didn’t change Ji Fanghuai’s hospital life much, but the real change came surprisingly from the uninvited guest, Lin Mianmian.
Lin Mianmian was recuperating from a concussion in the hospital for a few days. Before being discharged, out of courtesy, she struggled a few times before asking Ji Fanghuai for her room number via WeChat and came to visit her.
When she arrived, Jiang Zhi opened the door. Seeing an unfamiliar face, Jiang Zhi politely asked, “And you are?”
Lin Mianmian held the fruit for the patient in her hand, and facing Jiang Zhi’s cool demeanor, she nervously introduced herself, “I’m Lin Mianmian, here to visit Miss Ji.”
Jiang Zhi glanced at Ji Fanghuai, invited Lin Mianmian in to sit down, and then went to pour water.
“Why are you here?” Ji Fanghuai said happily.
Lin Mianmian was still a little shy and said, “The doctor said I can go home and rest. I’m being discharged, so I came to see you before I left.”
“You’re being discharged? Congratulations, congratulations.” Ji Fanghuai still enjoyed interacting with Lin Mianmian, perhaps because she was someone she knew herself.
Lin Mianmian nodded and said, “My mom works at this hospital, so I’ll come and see you often then.”
Ji Fanghuai responded, “That’s great.”
The two of them had a lot in common. For example, Ji Fanghuai asked why she wasn’t wearing a helmet today, and Lin Mianmian blushingly said that being in the hospital didn’t count as going out.
After talking for a long time, Lin Mianmian still didn’t know who Jiang Zhi was. Yet, Jiang Zhi’s presence was too prominent, so Lin Mianmian asked, “Who is this?”
Ji Fanghuai paused, then said, “Jiang Zhi, my fiancée.”
Lin Mianmian was surprised that Ji Fanghuai was already engaged. She then politely greeted Jiang Zhi, “Hello.”
Jiang Zhi responded faintly, “Hello.”
Lin Mianmian was genuinely there to visit the patient, unlike Xin Ling, who was full of nonsense. As they talked more, the two became more familiar, almost like old friends.
Lin Mianmian was reserved and blushed easily. Jiang Zhi went to the living area to give them space to talk, her expression somewhat serious.
After Lin Mianmian left, Jiang Zhi put the fruit she brought into the refrigerator and softly asked, “Fanghuai, do you want to be discharged?”
“Can I be discharged now?” Ji Fanghuai could hardly believe it.
“Your condition is stable now. The hospital is too oppressive, and all you do is get IV infusions lying on this bed every day.” Jiang Zhi looked at her hand, bruised from the IVs, feeling very distressed.
Ji Fanghuai felt the same way. Every day was about taking medicine, IVs, and regular check-ups, only to conclude with ‘continued observation.’ She didn’t know when it would end.
She said, “Of course, I want to be discharged.”
Jiang Zhi looked pleased and said, “Then I’ll contact the doctor to run some checks for you.”
“Mhm.” Ji Fanghuai felt the discharge was a little sudden, as if it had something to do with Lin Mianmian’s visit.
It took a few more days for X-rays, checks, and waiting for the results. The chief physician suggested that if she could go home, she should, as hospital life was too monotonous and depressing, and not suitable for recovery.
On the day of discharge, the assistant also came and helped Jiang Zhi pack up the belongings accumulated during their hospital stay.
Ji Fanghuai was ordered to sit still on the bed and wasn’t allowed to do anything.
During this time, Xin Ling called and asked, “Do you need my help?”
“Everything is packed. Just trouble you to help take it home,” Jiang Zhi said without hesitation.
“Are you treating me like a driver?” Miss Xin was displeased, but Jiang Zhi hadn’t been counting on her and continued packing.
Ji Fanghuai was overjoyed when she left the hospital, feeling as if she had been released from prison.
It was no exaggeration to say that her memories began in this hospital. Now she was starting a new life, like a child beginning kindergarten, eager to welcome new friends.
“I wish you a happy new life,” Jiang Zhi whispered in her ear.
“Mhm.” Ji Fanghuai smiled and nodded.
Once in the car, Ji Fanghuai realized she felt very uncomfortable.
She felt dizzy, weak in her limbs, and even nauseous. She didn’t know why, thinking it was her head injury acting up, but she didn’t dare say anything, afraid of worrying Jiang Zhi.
“You’re carsick,” Jiang Zhi solved the mystery for Ji Fanghuai, handing her a motion sickness pill. She said softly, “Close your eyes, and we’ll be home soon.”
“Okay.” Ji Fanghuai hadn’t expected to be carsick. She took the pill and leaned weakly against the seat.
Jiang Zhi gently pulled her into her arms. Ji Fanghuai, unable to worry about shyness, instinctively sought the most comfortable spot. Leaning against Jiang Zhi, smelling her familiar scent, she gradually fell asleep.
Jiang Zhi quietly told the driver, “Drive slower.”
The black business van drove towards an upscale residential area.
Ji Fanghuai woke up still in the garage. Because she was leaning in Jiang Zhi’s arms, she couldn’t even smell the car exhaust.
The thought of having her entire head nestled against Jiang Zhi’s abdomen made Ji Fanghuai’s face flush deep red.
She looked around and realized they had arrived long ago, but they were delayed in the car because she hadn’t woken up.
“You should have woken me up,” Ji Fanghuai told Jiang Zhi.
She really hated troubling others.
“It’s nothing, we just arrived, no delay,” Jiang Zhi helped her adjust her hat, looking completely unconcerned.
The assistant in the passenger seat silently rolled her eyes, having waited there for over half an hour.
Hearing this, Ji Fanghuai’s guilt subsided slightly. She looked left and right, feeling that the place was very unfamiliar.
Jiang Zhi thought she was trying to remember the address and said, “We live in Garden Estate, Building 3, Apartment 1203.”
Ji Fanghuai quietly memorized it. She only felt a sense of belonging when they reached the front door. At the entrance, Jiang Zhi suddenly squatted down to change Ji Fanghuai’s shoes.
“I can do it myself,” Ji Fanghuai retracted her foot self-consciously, not wanting Jiang Zhi to do this.
Jiang Zhi, however, gently held her ankle and said, “Did you forget the doctor’s orders again? You can’t squat down drastically. You’re still a patient, just discharged early.”
Ji Fanghuai had no choice but to give up, supporting herself against the wall.
Thinking of the assistant standing nearby, her face felt hot.
Jiang Zhi casually helped her take off her white flat shoes, revealing her fair feet, and then put on soft, furry slippers. Ji Fanghuai instantly felt like she was stepping on clouds.
The apartment was a three-bedroom, one-living room type. The moment Ji Fanghuai stepped inside, she felt the decor style was completely out of character for Jiang Zhi.
Jiang Zhi usually preferred dark tones, with her clothing mainly black and white. Ji Fanghuai had expected the home to be a light luxury or minimalist style, but the decor was a warm, cozy scheme.
The butter-yellow fabric sofa had a Pikachu plushie and a game character illustration cushion on it. Under the warm lighting, it looked very inviting. The design integrated the dining and living areas, with an added bar counter, giving the place a rich feeling of everyday life.
“Do you like it?” Seeing her inspecting the living room setup, Jiang Zhi couldn’t help but ask.
“I do,” Ji Fanghuai answered honestly.
Though she wondered why Jiang Zhi felt the need to ask.
They were a couple; Jiang Zhi should have been very sure that she liked this style, unless Jiang Zhi thought her preferences had changed after losing her memory.
“I’m glad you like it. Just sit here and don’t move for now.”
Jiang Zhi helped Ji Fanghuai sit on the sofa. There were two game character illustration cushions on the sofa, exquisitely made, appearing to be a couple from a game.
Ji Fanghuai instinctively picked one up and hugged it. When in an unfamiliar place, she always felt more comfortable holding something.
Jiang Zhi glanced at Ji Fanghuai, gestured to the assistant to make herself comfortable, and then softly called out, “Xi Xi, Mommy is home.”
Ji Fanghuai was so startled she almost fell off the sofa. She quickly looked at the assistant beside her.
Could they already have a child?
The thought sent a cold sweat down Ji Fanghuai’s back, making her feel completely unwell.
The assistant returned her a look of ‘I can’t help you.’
