After Losing My Memory, I Suddenly Had A Fiancée - Chapter 39
When her lie was exposed, Ji Fanghuai’s face instantly flushed crimson.
She felt like a disobedient cat now, desperately trying to escape. She had no mind to dwell on why Jiang Zhi was home and stammered, unable to speak.
“Fanghuai,” Jiang Zhi’s voice sounded again, the tone still gentle, but Ji Fanghuai detected a different meaning in it.
“I’m at Mianmian’s house right now,” Ji Fanghuai said, thinking quickly.
Jiang Zhi was silent for a moment, then sighed softly and said, “I’ll come and pick you up.”
“I won’t be back until tonight,” Ji Fanghuai quickly tried to decline.
“Then I’ll come for you tonight. Be careful,” Jiang Zhi’s slender fingers rested on Xixi’s head, gently stroking its fur, calming its emotions.
Ji Fanghuai somehow felt a hint of danger in Jiang Zhi’s last sentence, but she didn’t want to give up this opportunity.
She hung up the phone. The navigation software restarted, showing several coffee shops named “Shiguang” (Time/Light) in the area.
Ji Fanghuai glanced at the time; it was not yet noon. To save time, she took a taxi and went to look at each one.
She finally found a coffee shop whose decor and orientation were identical to the one in B City. If the surrounding environment hadn’t been different, she would have thought she was back in A City.
Ji Fanghuai looked at the strikingly familiar sign; her limbs seemed to move involuntarily. She walked into the coffee shop. No one recognized her, but the price list on the wall was the same.
The entire layout, perhaps even the dimensions, were identical.
In two different cities, who would deliberately open two identical shops? If it was one she had opened before, there was no reason for Jiang Zhi not to tell her, and she also had no reason not to close the shop if she wasn’t there.
Ji Fanghuai went to the counter to order and asked, “May I ask what your boss’s name is?”
The staff member looked at her in confusion and asked, “Who are you?”
Ji Fanghuai casually ordered two expensive cups of coffee, paid, and fabricated a story: “I’m a friend of your boss, but I didn’t see her today, and I’m a little curious. I wanted to know if the shop had been transferred.”
Seeing that she had paid, the staff member enthusiastically said, “Hello, our boss’s surname is Ji. I’m new, and I haven’t met her in person yet.”
Ji Fanghuai’s face froze the moment she heard the surname “Ji,” but she quickly recovered her smile and asked, “Is the full name convenient?”
The staff member said, “It’s on the business license over there.”
“Thank you.” Ji Fanghuai slowly walked over and looked up at the business license on the wall. The three characters stacked in the “Legal Representative” column seemed to be squinting and laughing at her.
Ji Fanghuai walked out of the coffee shop, wandering aimlessly.
Perhaps it was just someone with the same name.
But how could it be such a coincidence?
Surely not even the preferences would be the same.
“Ji Fanghuai.”
Ji Fanghuai froze where she stood until she heard the name “Ji Fanghuai” a second time before turning around. The person who called her was an old woman wearing glasses, who looked full of vigor.
Ji Fanghuai thought, It’s another person who knows me, or a relative. If she had woken up in B City, maybe people would call her that every day when she walked down the street.
No wonder she woke up in A City.
Ji Fanghuai forced out a few smiles: “Hello.”
The old woman said familiarly, “Xiao Ji, did you change jobs? I haven’t seen you at the shop.”
When Ji Fanghuai heard her mention “the shop,” it confirmed that it was indeed her shop. She said, “I’ve been at home.”
The old woman rubbed her hands and said, “Ah, you young people just like staying at home. By the way, do you remember when I introduced you to a partner? That young man said he couldn’t contact you and was so anxious he almost called the police. Did you change your number?”
Ji Fanghuai tried her best to remain calm and asked, “Introduced a partner? Don’t I have a fiancée?”
The old woman was displeased: “Are you trying to fool an old woman? Didn’t you say you didn’t have a partner before? What is this ‘fiancée’ nonsense? Didn’t you say you liked boys?”
Ji Fanghuai’s eyes darkened. She smiled and said, “It seems there was such a thing. I accidentally hit my head before, and my memory isn’t very good. I don’t even remember you.”
The old woman said with concern, “How could you be so careless? Where did you fall? I was your high school math teacher, Teacher Fang. The person I introduced to you is my nephew. He works at a foreign company, is handsome, and is very fond of you.”
Ji Fanghuai listened quietly and said, “Goodbye, Teacher.”
She tightened the scarf around her neck, turned, and walked away, leaving the old woman to be confused in the wind.
Ji Fanghuai sniffed and looked silently at the passersby.
Fortunately, she didn’t have a fiancé, otherwise, with a fiancée and a fiancé paired up, would she choose to be lesbian or straight?
Because the return high-speed rail ticket was bought for five in the afternoon, and she hadn’t expected the day to end so quickly, she didn’t have the patience to wait for the train and took a taxi directly back.
Ji Fanghuai felt motion sickness the whole way. The driver reminded her several times that if she needed to vomit, there was a bag, and she absolutely shouldn’t vomit in the car.
Ji Fanghuai, pale-faced, didn’t speak.
After nearly four hours of driving, when they reached a familiar place, Ji Fanghuai took out her phone and called Lin Mianmian, saying, “Can I stay at your place for a while?”
Lin Mianmian knew something was going on between her and Jiang Zhi and didn’t ask further, only saying she would come to pick her up. Ji Fanghuai only knew the approximate location of Lin Mianmian’s house, so she asked the driver to stop nearby.
The driver had watched her eyes turn red the whole trip, clearly wanting to cry but holding it in. She said, “Don’t worry about a breakup, girl. Out with the old, in with the new.”
Ji Fanghuai said, “Thank you, Master.”
The two coordinated their stories and stayed at Lin Mianmian’s house.
Lin Mianmian’s parents were surprised to see her bringing someone home and greeted Ji Fanghuai with the same warmth they would a daughter-in-law.
But Ji Fanghuai’s stomach was churning; she just wanted to sleep.
Her phone kept ringing, but she didn’t want to answer it at all.
Ji Fanghuai put it on silent, lay on Lin Mianmian’s bed, and couldn’t fall asleep. The motion sickness after-effects left her dizzy and nauseous. Fortunately, Lin’s mother made her honey-lemon water, and her stomach felt much better after drinking it.
Lin Mianmian worriedly said, “She called asking about you.”
Ji Fanghuai was annoyed right now and said, “Just tell her that I’m really upset right now and don’t want to see anyone. I’ll go see her tomorrow.”
Lin Mianmian said, “Get some good rest.”
Then she went to explain to her parents that Ji Fanghuai wasn’t her girlfriend, but someone else’s, causing her parents to sigh.
Ji Fanghuai was sleepless all night, occasionally falling asleep only to be startled awake by nightmares. In the morning, she was shocked by her own pale face and dark circles.
As expected, Jiang Zhi came to pick her up early in the morning. She must have known Lin Mianmian’s address somehow, as she was already waiting in her car downstairs.
Ji Fanghuai moved her lips, but her feet felt rooted to the spot.
Jiang Zhi took off her coat and draped it over her, saying, “We can talk about it when we get back.”
Ji Fanghuai got into Jiang Zhi’s car like a zombie. Although two people were sitting inside, the car was so quiet that the sound of fabric rubbing could be heard.
After getting home, Ji Fanghuai didn’t say a word, just collapsed on the bed and slept.
When Ji Fanghuai woke up, it was as if nothing had happened; she was extremely quiet and seemed uninterested in everything she was asked.
Jiang Zhi said, “The reason there are two coffee shops is…”
Ji Fanghuai coldly interrupted, saying, “Are you monitoring me?”
Jiang Zhi explained, “I saw your navigation history.”
Ji Fanghuai chuckled softly, not pursuing the matter, only saying she wanted to eat. After eating, she said she wanted to sleep again, and insisted that Jiang Zhi sleep with her.
Jiang Zhi indulged her.
Ji Fanghuai clung to Jiang Zhi, only wanting to be intimate with her.
They had always been intimate, but they had never gone further.
Ji Fanghuai was unusually aggressive, but Jiang Zhi hesitated.
Ji Fanghuai sneered, “Are you afraid?”
Jiang Zhi pressed against her hot skin, her eyes already a little hazy, but she shrank her fingers, saying, “Fanghuai…”
Ji Fanghuai lay flat, watching Jiang Zhi display a look of timidness above her, and felt a hint of satisfaction.
She yelled with reddened eyes, “You don’t even know how to make love? Isn’t it just intimate contact between lovers? Shouldn’t you be the most familiar with this? Are you afraid? Or have you never done it?”
