After Losing My Memory, I Suddenly Had A Fiancée - Chapter 38
Ji Fanghuai’s lips trembled slightly, and she didn’t speak for a long time. She had only wanted to learn more about her and Jiang Zhi’s past from Shen Jing, thinking it would, at most, relate to her maternal grandmother’s family. She never expected to receive such a huge piece of news right away.
“Fanghuai?” Shen Jing seemed to have anticipated her surprise, and her tone was relatively calm. “Are you still on the phone?”
“I… I am. Do you know anything else? Like why your family dislikes me.”
Ji Fanghuai was like a drowning person grasping at a straw, trying to gather more information from Shen Jing.
But this was clearly impossible.
Silence fell on Shen Jing’s end for a moment. She then said, “It’s better for you to ask Jiang Zhi directly about some things, because I’m not entirely clear either.”
Ji Fanghuai understood that Shen Jing didn’t want to be the villain who sowed discord between them. She didn’t want to make things difficult for her, so she thanked her and hung up the phone.
Ji Fanghuai held her phone, repeatedly telling herself that Shen Jing might have remembered incorrectly. How could one’s sexuality be so fluid? And even if she was straight, couldn’t she be “bent” later?
In any case, she was definitely gay now, that was beyond doubt.
What truly worried Ji Fanghuai was that she feared Jiang Zhi was hiding something from her, and even more, that Jiang Zhi was deceiving her.
When Jiang Zhi returned, Ji Fanghuai had already composed herself.
Their relationship had been advancing by leaps and bounds. Since they had talked things through, intimacy was common, much like a couple in the throes of first love, always yearning to be close to the other.
“You’re so passionate. It’s like you’re in a first relationship,” Ji Fanghuai said, seemingly unintentionally, as Jiang Zhi held her.
Jiang Zhi never hesitated to express her love for Ji Fanghuai. She cupped Ji Fanghuai’s face and kissed her everywhere like a chick pecking rice, smiling as she said, “You are my first love.”
Ji Fanghuai subtly drew back a little and smiled along. “I mean, didn’t we date before? Why are you still so enthusiastic now?”
Jiang Zhi thought seriously for a moment and said, “I’m happier because you’re found again after being lost.”
Ji Fanghuai noncommittally.
As if she had acquired a taste for it, Jiang Zhi lowered her head and captured Ji Fanghuai’s lips and tongue. The two played a game of hide-and-seek.
This was their daily routine, but Ji Fanghuai was somewhat distracted now, numbly letting Jiang Zhi conquer her.
“Do you have something on your mind again?” Jiang Zhi released Ji Fanghuai, took her to sit on the sofa, and looked her in the eye.
Those eyes were always so perceptive. Ji Fanghuai’s gaze was slightly evasive; she felt like Jiang Zhi could see right through her.
Ji Fanghuai hesitated for a moment and said, “I contacted my cousin today, and she said I used to be straight.”
Jiang Zhi’s brow furrowed almost imperceptibly, and she said unhappily, “Why did you suddenly contact her?”
In the past, Ji Fanghuai would have thought she was jealous, but now she sensed panic.
Her tone wasn’t very good either. She said, “That’s not important. What’s important is that she said I used to be straight.”
Jiang Zhi’s expression softened, and she said nonchalantly, “But you are definitively gay now. ‘Gay’ or ‘straight’ is just an external label; the fact is more important.”
“You’re changing the subject and substituting one concept for another,” Ji Fanghuai exposed her. “I don’t care at all whether ‘gay’ or ‘straight’ is an external label. What I want to know is, if I was straight before, how did I suddenly become gay?”
Jiang Zhi didn’t answer directly, but instead asked, “Do you still remember the screenshot you sent me before?”
Seeing her starting to beat around the bush, Ji Fanghuai became angry and snapped, “I remember!”
She had never known that Jiang Zhi could be so evasive when answering questions. She used to answer everything directly, but today she was deliberately going in circles.
The frustration in Ji Fanghuai’s chest nearly erupted.
Jiang Zhi tried to calm her down. “The screenshot you sent me said that every woman is a potential bisexual, which means maybe there are no absolute straight women in the world, only those who choose to be straight or choose to be gay.”
Ji Fanghuai didn’t want to hear these specious arguments now, nor did she want to verify the truth of this statement.
Her tone was a bit aggressive as she asked, “After all that, did I choose to be gay myself? Or were you the one who ‘bent’ me?”
Jiang Zhi lowered her eyes and said faintly, “I don’t have the ability to ‘bend’ you. You figured things out yourself.”
Ji Fanghuai was half-skeptical. A thought suddenly popped into her head. Seeing that Jiang Zhi seemed somewhat hurt by her aggressiveness, she regretted her outburst and tried to relax her tone. She asked, “Are you busy lately?”
Jiang Zhi’s expression brightened. She said, “I am, but if you need something, I can take time out to be with you.”
“Nothing, just asking casually,” Ji Fanghuai said, acting as if she had dropped the subject.
Jiang Zhi, however, looked down at the floor, deep in thought.
Xin Ling rarely came to the company. As soon as she entered the office, she saw Jiang Zhi gripping her mouse, motionless for a long time, and couldn’t help but mock, “Tsk, the boss is openly slacking off during working hours.”
Jiang Zhi subtly released the mouse and turned to look at the tightly locked drawer under her desk, feeling somewhat annoyed.
“Do you think it’s better for me to confess some things myself, or should I keep hiding them?”
“Either way is fine; the result will be the same,” Xin Ling said with a lack of interest, having long grown tired of the topic. “Have you ever heard of paper being able to wrap fire?”
Jiang Zhi was slightly stunned, staring blankly at the screen.
Xin Ling continued, “It will be discovered sooner or later.”
Jiang Zhi remained silent for a long time, then said to herself, “She seems to have noticed something. She’s always distracted during intimacy and tries to act normal, but I know her best, so how could I not see it? ”
Xin Ling murmured softly, “This is karma.”
Ji Fanghuai thought and thought, then finally asked the little assistant about Jiang Zhi’s itinerary, and then instructed, “Please keep this from Jiang Zhi. Don’t tell her.”
The little assistant looked conflicted.
Ji Fanghuai added, “I want to give her a surprise. If you tell her, there won’t be a surprise.”
The little assistant immediately looked enlightened, thinking this was just a playful secret between the couple, and agreed to keep it a secret. Otherwise, she would usually report anything related to Ji Fanghuai to Jiang Zhi.
After learning Jiang Zhi’s schedule, Ji Fanghuai knew she had a business trip this Friday. She seized the opportunity of her trip and booked a round-trip high-speed train ticket to B City.
On Friday, Ji Fanghuai took the high-speed train to B City and went directly to Chun Jing Road in Chenhe District, searching for the name using her navigation app.
Shi Guang Coffee.
Perhaps because she was in a different city, the phone network was poor, and it kept displaying “Loading.”
Ji Fanghuai’s heart was pounding as she watched the spinning circle, simultaneously hoping the shop wouldn’t exist and hoping it would.
Her phone suddenly vibrated. The loading screen was replaced by an incoming call notification.
A call was coming in, and it was from Jiang Zhi.
Ji Fanghuai’s hand instinctively jerked, and the phone dropped directly onto the floor with a muffled thud.
She fumbled to pick up the phone. Fortunately, the back cover protected it; the phone was fine, only the screen had a slight crack.
Ji Fanghuai stood at the entrance of the busy subway station. Just as she was about to answer the call, she remembered how noisy it was there. She quickly found a relatively quiet burger shop. By then, the call had ended and was ringing again.
Ji Fanghuai took a deep breath and answered the phone.
“Fanghuai.”
Jiang Zhi’s voice was soft, like wind pouring into Ji Fanghuai’s ears.
“Hmm?” Ji Fanghuai felt like a thief caught in the act.
Jiang Zhi’s tone was cheerful. “Have you eaten? Has Xixi been well-behaved? That little guy hasn’t been very good lately, always wanting to run outside. Be careful it doesn’t sneak away when you’re not looking.”
“I’ve eaten. Xixi is very well-behaved,” Ji Fanghuai answered randomly, playing along with Jiang Zhi’s words.
Jiang Zhi sounded unconvinced. “Really? Why is it a little noisy where you are?”
Ji Fanghuai suddenly felt a bit nervous and guilty. “I’m watching a TV show; that’s the sound from the show. Xixi is on my lap right now and is being very obedient.”
No sooner had she finished speaking than the sound of Xixi meowing came through the phone.
