After Losing My Memory, I Suddenly Had A Fiancée - Chapter 25
Jiang Zhi caught one, and Ji Fanghuai took one.
They were excited at first, but after holding a pile of dolls of various shapes, Ji Fanghuai felt that if they kept catching them at this rate, their house would be full of stuffed animals.
“You try again. Catching dolls is about technique,” Jiang Zhi explained how to adjust the angle and how to stubbornly focus on one doll.
Ji Fanghuai said, “I have no free hands.”
Jiang Zhi bought a large gift bag from the vendor, put all the dolls they had caught inside, and told Ji Fanghuai to keep trying.
Ji Fanghuai lived up to expectations and finally caught a green-headed turtle.
Jiang Zhi asked Ji Fanghuai, “What else do you want to play?”
“Definitely no more doll catching,” Ji Fanghuai felt that Jiang Zhi didn’t particularly like this activity and was only playing with her because she liked it, yet her technique was much better than hers.
Jiang Zhi said, “Then should we go home now?”
“Don’t you have a list?” Ji Fanghuai didn’t have anything specific she wanted to play. If she really had to think of something, she couldn’t come up with it right away.
Jiang Zhi asked, “Are you sure you want to strictly follow the list?”
“That way, the memory will have continuity. Maybe I’ll suddenly have a flash of inspiration and remember everything,” Ji Fanghuai said lightly, hoping to recall things easily.
Jiang Zhi nodded and handed her the phone.
Ji Fanghuai saw it was a memo, which read like a progress bar, listing “watching a movie,” “catching dolls,” “shopping,” followed by “sleeping,” with a note stating it was “pure” sleeping.
Ji Fanghuai: “…”
Jiang Zhi only showed her the planned activities for today.
Ji Fanghuai asked, “Is shopping for clothes? Or buying cosmetics and bags?”
“You used to like buying clothes for me,” Jiang Zhi said with a hint of nostalgia.
“With your height and long legs, you look like a clothes hanger. You can pull off anything. The key is whether you like it or not.”
Ji Fanghuai looked Jiang Zhi up and down, sizing up her figure.
Jiang Zhi shook her head and said, “It’s not like that. You used to try them on yourself first. If it felt a little too long on you, it meant it was just right for me.”
Ji Fanghuai was completely puzzled. Could she automatically tell if clothes were the right fit? How well did she know Jiang Zhi’s measurements, head to toe?
Realizing her thoughts were wandering, Ji Fanghuai immediately said, “That sounds like a younger sister buying clothes for her older sister. Knowing the size, she tries it on herself first.”
“Yes,” Jiang Zhi did not deny it.
Ji Fanghuai was surprised that Jiang Zhi didn’t react to the “older sister/younger sister” titles this time. She asked, confused, “But weren’t you with me? Why would you still need me to try it on first?”
Ji Fanghuai imagined a scene: she goes to a clothing store, and the sales associate finds her clothes based on her size and requirements. Still, she asks for a size larger and leaves under the bewildered gaze of the sales associate.
“It’s a habit,” Jiang Zhi explained Ji Fanghuai’s confusion again. “Last night, I promised you that you could call me ‘older sister’ if you liked. You can call me anything you want, as long as you are willing.”
Ji Fanghuai recalled that there was indeed something like that last night. While wondering why Jiang Zhi’s attitude had changed so quickly, she waved her hand and said, “What nonsense are you talking about? It’s not like you don’t have a name. I just want to call you Jiang Zhi. I don’t have any strange habits like that.”
Calling her fiancé “older sister” sounded very strange.
At a certain brand clothing store, Ji Fanghuai took all the clothes she thought suited Jiang Zhi’s temperament to try on, and then asked the sales associate to find a size larger to try on as well.
Jiang Zhi said from the side, “Our waist sizes are similar. The main difference is in height.”
Ji Fanghuai thought that only her waist size was similar to Jiang Zhi’s, and the rest should be different.
She said uncertainly, “Why don’t you try them on yourself?”
But Jiang Zhi just said, “I trust you.”
Ji Fanghuai had no idea what kind of strange preference this was, so she could only dutifully select and try on clothes for Jiang Zhi.
Jiang Zhi seemed to enjoy the process very much. Then, she saw a white strapless long dress and wanted Ji Fanghuai to try it on.
Ji Fanghuai hadn’t worn a long dress since she woke up, and her current hairstyle didn’t suit a long dress. She said shyly, “Didn’t we agree to buy clothes for you? I don’t have anything I want to buy.”
“You don’t like this one? I think it suits you very well,” Jiang Zhi looked hopeful, really wishing Ji Fanghuai would wear it.
Ji Fanghuai saw the light in her eyes and couldn’t bear to refuse, so she half-heartedly went into the fitting room to try it on.
However, her right hand was inconvenient—perhaps a lingering effect—and her left hand was not dexterous because she was used to using her right hand in daily life. She couldn’t reach behind her, let alone pull up the zipper at the back.
Ji Fanghuai pushed the door open slightly. The sales associate had been watching her direction and immediately came over, asking, “Miss, do you need any help?”
“I can’t zip it up.” Before Ji Fanghuai finished speaking, Jiang Zhi walked over and said, “I’ll help you.”
Sharing a fitting room, Ji Fanghuai felt a little nervous. She held the fabric covering her chest, feeling Jiang Zhi slowly move closer to her back. The process of pulling up the zipper was slow, and the sound of the zipper seemed to be electrically charged.
After a long time.
“Done,” Jiang Zhi’s eyes were exceptionally bright.
Ji Fanghuai came out and looked at herself in the mirror. With short hair, wearing a long dress looked a little out of place.
She usually wore very casual clothes and didn’t pay much attention to style, often grabbing already matched outfits from her closet.
Ji Fanghuai felt she should adopt a cool, rebellious, gender-neutral style now.
“I’m not suited to wearing long dresses right now. If I were a bit taller, I would be suitable for a gender-neutral style, like a handsome ‘T’ [tomboy].”
Jiang Zhi couldn’t help but smile, saying, “This long dress suits you very well. Short hair can also be very alluring.”
Ji Fanghuai didn’t know how she saw the “alluring” part. She changed out of the long dress. Jiang Zhi then selected other styles, and Ji Fanghuai got tired from changing so many clothes.
Jiang Zhi bought all the clothes that looked good on her now and those that would look good once her hair grew longer.
Lin Mianmian didn’t expect that the first time she decided to go to work, she wouldn’t do much actual work. Instead, she spent a lot of effort on Xin Ling, or more precisely, on the female protagonist of that book.
No matter how well she drew, Xin Ling would say it was good, but she knew this was a sign of Xin Ling’s dissatisfaction.
Lin Mianmian felt that if she kept drawing, she would end up creating an entire illustrated collection based on the novel’s scenes, yet there still wouldn’t be a piece that Xin Ling was completely satisfied with.
Xin Ling even comforted her, “Don’t worry, working here is the same. I’ll pay you privately, and your company salary, including the five social insurances and one housing fund, will remain the same. Oh, right, has your probation period ended yet?”
“I’m still a new employee,” Lin Mianmian said helplessly.
Xin Ling patted her shoulder, “I like new employees.”
Xin Ling must really like that novel. This was the first time Lin Mianmian had stayed at someone else’s house. Her parents even thought she was dating someone and living with them, but she couldn’t tell them it was her boss, or her parents would think she was being bullied and subjected to workplace misconduct.
Fortunately, Xin Ling had many friends and didn’t spend much time at home, so Lin Mianmian was free most of the time.
This time, Xin Ling said she wanted to go shopping to relieve boredom and dragged her along. Lin Mianmian even suspected that she was Xin Ling’s attendant and drawing was just a side job.
Lin Mianmian was surprised to see Jiang Zhi and Ji Fanghuai here. They were talking and laughing, not looking like they had argued at all.
Lin Mianmian looked at Xin Ling, who shrugged and said, “Couples’ arguments are like a quarrel at the head of the bed resolved at the foot of the bed.”
She then made a gesture of two thumbs kissing.
Lin Mianmian walked speechlessly toward Ji Fanghuai.
“Fanghuai.”
“Mianmian?” Ji Fanghuai and Jiang Zhi were about to leave and hadn’t expected to run into them. Seeing Xin Ling still behind her, she pulled Lin Mianmian aside. “How come you’re here? And with her?”
Lin Mianmian said, “Because my drawing isn’t finished yet. The task isn’t complete, so I’m still staying at her place.”
Ji Fanghuai was surprised, “No way, is Xin Ling that tyrannical?”
“Not really,” Lin Mianmian didn’t know how to explain. “Anyway, drawing is drawing, no matter where I am. As long as I get paid.”
The four of them went to a restaurant. When Jiang Zhi was ordering, she gave the waiter a lot of instructions, causing Xin Ling to glance at her frequently.
Lin Mianmian secretly messaged Ji Fanghuai, “Did you two make up?”
“I don’t know if it counts as making up. I got drunk yesterday, and when I woke up, Jiang Zhi had completely changed her attitude. I think this is pretty good, and we’re trying to retrieve our memories,” Ji Fanghuai also found it incredible.
Lin Mianmian said, “Mhm, you look very happy today.”
“It has nothing to do with Jiang Zhi. It’s because the movie was good, and I caught a pile of dolls.” Ji Fanghuai sent the photos she took to Lin Mianmian, all showing the dolls they had caught.
Lin Mianmian asked, “You caught them?”
“No, I only caught one small turtle. Jiang Zhi caught all of them.” Although Jiang Zhi caught them, Ji Fanghuai felt honored. Anyway, she was very happy today.
Ji Fanghuai subconsciously looked at Jiang Zhi and saw that she was staring at her. Not knowing when she started watching, she quickly put away her phone and joined their conversation.
Xin Ling said, “No matter what you do with your game, I won’t help you look after the company. I’ve been very busy recently.”
Jiang Zhi didn’t believe her and said, “Tell me about it.”
“I’m going to learn how to draw with Little Lin. I’ve even bought all the equipment,” Xin Ling draped her arm over Lin Mianmian’s shoulder, acting on impulse. “All that’s missing is for me to officially become her apprentice.”
Lin Mianmian instinctively wanted to refuse but could only nod.
Back home, Ji Fanghuai was exhausted and collapsed. She lay on the sofa without any regard for her image and soon fell into a deep sleep.
Ji Fanghuai was woken up by a cat. A sharp meowing sound suddenly exploded in her ear. Xixi sounded like it was about to fight someone, letting out a sound full of intense threat.
Ji Fanghuai flipped over and sat up. She saw Xixi half-crouching on the armrest of the sofa, meowing at Jiang Zhi. Its fur was all puffed out, making it look like a big ball of fluff.
“What did you do to provoke her?” Ji Fanghuai rubbed her eyes and asked Jiang Zhi, “She’s so fierce.”
“She brought it on herself.” Jiang Zhi put down the cat food and toys expressionlessly, but Xixi was still angry, making a rumbling sound at Jiang Zhi.
Ji Fanghuai stroked Xixi’s fur and said, “She has a big temper. Did you scold her? She doesn’t scold me.”
Jiang Zhi pursed her lips and said, “I didn’t scold her. She was kneading, and I picked her up. Then she got angry.”
“Kneading what?” Ji Fanghuai didn’t immediately understand.
“She was kneading your…” Jiang Zhi glanced at Ji Fanghuai’s chest and didn’t continue.
“…Bad cat, bad cat.” Ji Fanghuai realized this was why she had felt like she was experiencing sleep paralysis earlier and couldn’t turn over.
