After Losing My Memory, I Suddenly Had A Fiancée - Chapter 17
After her incompetent rage, Ji Fanghuai was so angry that she slept in a separate bed that night.
Jiang Zhi always stated the problem very directly, but Ji Fanghuai had to admit that their kiss yesterday was indeed just right at first. It was only when Jiang Zhi became more demanding—that is, when she started using her tongue—that Ji Fanghuai felt panic and was forced to stop.
“The second bedroom hasn’t been tidied up,” Jiang Zhi said, spreading her hands, indicating that she, too, would have liked to sleep in a separate room, but things didn’t work out that way.
Ji Fanghuai ignored her and shrank towards the edge of the bed.
Jiang Zhi sighed and lay down, establishing a clear boundary between them.
Ji Fanghuai woke up in the middle of the night. In the darkness, a pair of glowing green lanterns hung nearby, and they were getting closer to her.
Ji Fanghuai stopped breathing, terrified, and instinctively moved closer to Jiang Zhi.
“Don’t be afraid, it’s the cat.” Jiang Zhi turned on the light. Sure enough, it was that fellow, Xixi, looking wronged and trying to burrow into Ji Fanghuai’s arms.
“I forgot to close the door,” Jiang Zhi said, picking the cat up and carrying it to its bed.
Ji Fanghuai, relieved after the false alarm, turned her head and went back to sleep.
Jiang Zhi lay back down. After a moment’s thought, she said, “That rule you mentioned can’t stand. I can control myself, but we shouldn’t be constrained by rigid rules. It’s only natural to want to be intimate with someone you like.”
The last sentence choked Ji Fanghuai, making it impossible to argue. Knowing she couldn’t win against Jiang Zhi, she decided not to bring up the matter again, turned off the light, and went to sleep.
Jiang Zhi pursed her lips in the darkness.
In the Vice General Manager’s office at Fangyuan Games, Xin Ling just wanted to lie on the massage chair and quietly scroll through videos, but people kept coming to bother her.
The manager of the finance department said, “General Manager Xin, here are the expenditure records for the first half of the year. Please have a look.”
Xin Ling didn’t even glance at them. “Jiang Zhi will be back soon. Give them to her.”
A little while later, the manager of the marketing department came in. “General Manager Xin, this is the latest advertising plan. We need your signature.”
Xin Ling said impatiently, “Find General Manager Jiang.”
“General Manager Xin, the R&D department…”
“I said, find General Manager Jiang! This is the Vice General Manager’s office. Where would you find a General Manager Jiang?” Xin Ling pretended to be annoyed. The person apologized profusely and quickly backed out of the office.
A woman’s light laughter came from beside her.
Xin Ling tossed her phone aside and complained, “I shouldn’t have listened to Jiang Zhi and watched over this dreadful company for her. It’s full of trivial nonsense all day long. They come to me for every little thing.”
Jin Lin changed her crossed-leg posture and smiled. “You were the most enthusiastic when we decided to acquire the company to make games. Jiang Zhi and I were just your assistants, and you exploited us every day. We never got off work on time.”
Xin Ling put on an act as if she was about to settle old scores. “You have the nerve to say that? You quit halfway through and are a big star now, so of course, you don’t have to deal with this.”
Jin Lin lowered her eyes, deliberately skipping the topic, and asked, “Is that woman really suffering from amnesia?”
Xin Ling also quieted down and said carelessly, “Yeah, amnesia.”
Jin Lin didn’t speak, seemingly lost in thought.
Xin Ling couldn’t stand her quiet state. She walked over, lifted Jin Lin’s chin, and teased her. “If I were Jiang Zhi, I’d definitely choose you. Ji Fanghuai is nice, but how can she compare to you, with your intoxicating charm, like a mesmerizing, man-eating vixen?”
Jin Lin was wearing a glamorous, long dress, her eyes and brows full of allure, clearly having dressed up carefully.
Jin Lin said, “Too bad she’s not you.”
“Boring,” Xin Ling pouted and went back to playing with her phone.
Jiang Zhi arrived at the company a little later. After greeting Jin Lin and Xin Ling, she drove straight to a private room at a certain Chinese restaurant.
“Jiang Zhi, could you change your car next time? It drives like an old man’s car,” Xin Ling complained while opening a wine bottle.
Jiang Zhi said coolly, “Then don’t ride in it next time.”
Xin Ling continued to gripe, “You’re like a lit firecracker.”
Jin Lin just smiled on the side, her eyes constantly fixed on Jiang Zhi. When she noticed the wound on Jiang Zhi’s lip, a flash of sadness crossed her eyes.
Xin Ling glanced at Jiang Zhi, poured them some wine, and said nostalgically, “It’s rare for the three of us to get together again today. Ever since Jin Lin entered the entertainment industry, the three of us have struggled to meet even once a year.”
Jiang Zhi agreed, raised her glass, and said lightly, “A toast to Jin Lin’s wrap-up of her new show. I hope you achieve the Grand Slam soon.”
“Those things aren’t important,” Jin Lin said, meaning something else, and quickly downed the white wine in her cup.
Jiang Zhi looked at her, then started eating and chatting about Jin Lin’s recent new show. Xin Ling also mentioned that she had her eye on another great place for travel, but worried her family wouldn’t let her go.
“The last time I showed that video to my grandma, the old woman almost beat my leg off.”
In the video, Xin Ling was wearing hiking gear, standing on a tree that had broken and was nearly at a 90-degree angle, giving a thumbs-up. The drop below was over ten meters, and she could fall at any moment. The sound of the wind was whistling on the mountaintop.
Jiang Zhi commented, “Since ancient times, if you don’t court death, you won’t die.”
Xin Ling was unconvinced. “Don’t worry, I had safety measures. Jin Lin, next time your crew has scenes with ‘men in black,’ remember to ask me to make a cameo. I’ve always dreamed of walking on walls and flying over roofs.”
“Okay,” Jin Lin said, then changed the subject. “Jiang Zhi, we haven’t been in touch for a long time. Let’s talk about your recent life.”
Jiang Zhi didn’t want to talk too much. She simply said, “The same as before.”
Jin Lin went straight to the heart of the matter. “I heard she has amnesia?”
Jiang Zhi raised an eyebrow, not denying it. “Yes.”
“Since she has amnesia, she doesn’t know me. Aren’t you considering letting us get to know each other again?” Jin Lin smiled.
Jiang Zhi thought of Ji Fanghuai and the kiss that ended abruptly. “There’s no rush. We can get acquainted another time.”
But Jin Lin pressed her. “I’m quite busy. I’ll be starting a new drama in a couple of days. If we can’t meet these few days, it will have to be next month.”
Jiang Zhi was unmoved. “Then we’ll meet next month.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the atmosphere in the private room immediately dropped to freezing point.
“I think you’re just afraid, aren’t you?” Jin Lin suddenly said hysterically. “Or are you simply willing to let her live forever in the bubble you’ve created for her?”
Jiang Zhi frowned. “It has nothing to do with you.”
“How can it have nothing to do with me?” Jin Lin questioned. “We’re friends, and besides…”
“You’re drunk,” Jiang Zhi told Xin Ling to take care of her, then left first.
Jin Lin watched Jiang Zhi’s retreating back, gave a slight smile, and then continued to drink heavily, her eyes red.
Xin Ling said helplessly, “You know how protective Jiang Zhi is of Ji Fanghuai. Just don’t let it bother you. You two always argue because of Ji Fanghuai, and we’ve been friends for ten years.”
Jin Lin scoffed, “Ten years of friendship is just a joke.”
Xin Ling thought: It’s your own fault for twisting friendship into love, but she couldn’t bear to hurt her friend and said, “You know Ji Fanghuai. Why are you so eager to see her?”
Jin Lin stared at the wine glass Jiang Zhi had used, tracing the lip print Jiang Zhi had left on it. She smiled. “I know her, but she doesn’t know me now. I just want to see her flustered look.”
“You shouldn’t meddle in some things,” Xin Ling couldn’t help but remind her. “Otherwise, you won’t even have a friendship left.”
Jin Lin said nonchalantly, “It’s fine, I can wait.”
Ji Fanghuai woke up to find no one beside her. She wanted to call Jiang Zhi to ask where she was but thought it might seem too clingy. Rubbing her stiff neck, she planned to go to the coffee shop.
After washing up, Ji Fanghuai was debating whether to take a taxi or have her assistant pick her up.
She suffered from severe motion sickness; even the smell of car exhaust made her uncomfortable. However, whenever she rode with Jiang Zhi, Jiang Zhi always managed to make her forget her motion sickness.
Ji Fanghuai had just taken out her phone to call when Sun Wen, the nutritionist, arrived at the door first.
“Fanghuai, good morning.”
“Ms. Sun, good morning.” Ji Fanghuai had to greet her guest first.
Sun Wen was very busy and got straight to the point. “I need you to supervise Jiang Zhi’s daily diet from now on. Her stomach is not good, and it’s quite serious. She can’t eat spicy food or overly sweet things. But lately, it seems like she’s been indulging.”
Ji Fanghuai blinked, immediately realizing that the desserts were probably the culprit.
Whenever she made desserts, Jiang Zhi would be very obliging and taste them, then compliment her on how skillful and delicious they were. Sometimes, she would even pack some to take to the company.
She guiltily agreed. “Okay.”
Sun Wen added, “I remember Jiang Zhi hates sweets the most.”
Ji Fanghuai froze.
“But she often does unexpected things,” Sun Wen said with a smile. “Just keep a close eye on her in the future. She listens to you the most.”
Ji Fanghuai felt stressed. The main thing was that she didn’t feel like Jiang Zhi listened to her very much.
After discussing Jiang Zhi, Sun Wen asked, “How’s your health lately?”
“The doctor said I was fine during my last check-up,” Ji Fanghuai said a little awkwardly. “Also, I’ve gained a few pounds.”
Sun Wen smiled. “That’s normal. It means you’re recovering well. And you are currently underweight; your weight hasn’t reached a healthy standard yet. You need to continue taking good care of yourself.”
“Alright,” Ji Fanghuai agreed to everything.
Sun Wen came and left quickly.
What Ji Fanghuai remembered most clearly was that Jiang Zhi hated sweets, and hated them the most.
Why would someone who hates something the most still eat it?
Ji Fanghuai started to feel guilty. She dropped all her plans and decided to wait for Jiang Zhi to return so she could talk to her about this properly.
Ji Fanghuai thought Jiang Zhi wouldn’t be back until the evening, but she returned before Ji Fanghuai was even halfway through her new drama. However, she seemed to be in a bad mood.
Ji Fanghuai, concerned about her stomach issues and feeling guilty about being the source of the sweets, asked, “Are you upset?”
Jiang Zhi lowered her eyes. “I saw an old friend, and we had a bit of an argument.”
Ji Fanghuai nodded, not planning to ask for details, as she didn’t know the old friend anyway.
Jiang Zhi seemed a little conflicted. “I’ll arrange a time tomorrow for you two to meet. Don’t worry, she’s easy to get along with, just like Xin Ling, and you two knew each other before.”
An old friend of hers?
Ji Fanghuai felt nervous. She always felt like Jiang Zhi’s friends didn’t like her much, as if she were a terrible monster.
Xin Ling seemed friendly on the surface, smiling whenever she saw her, but Ji Fanghuai knew deep down that it was only because of Jiang Zhi that Xin Ling treated her so well.
And her cousin, Shen Jing, was always aloof toward her.
Ji Fanghuai didn’t want to make things difficult for Jiang Zhi and acted completely nonchalant. “That’s fine, you can arrange it.”
Jiang Zhi suddenly asked, “What would you do if you found out I was hiding something from you one day?”
Ji Fanghuai was stunned for a moment, then said indifferently, “Is there anything you haven’t hidden from me?”
Jiang Zhi’s expression tightened for a second, but then Ji Fanghuai continued, “For example, you don’t like sweets, and your stomach condition is very serious, but you hid all of that from me.”
Jiang Zhi gradually relaxed. She said earnestly, “It’s fine to eat them occasionally. Sweets can improve your mood, but I only like one kind of sweet.”
Ji Fanghuai was curious. “What is it?”
“Guess,” Jiang Zhi said, staring at Ji Fanghuai’s lips without answering.
Ji Fanghuai: As long as we don’t kiss and make out, we are a good husband-and-wife relationship! Let’s build a harmonious Green Jinjiang together!
