After Losing My Memory, I Suddenly Had A Fiancée - Chapter 18
Ji Fanghuai couldn’t be bothered to deal with the sickeningly sweet clinginess of Jiang Zhi.
Fortunately, Jiang Zhi only talked and didn’t make any other moves. Ji Fanghuai made a mental note about her dislike for sweets. Meeting Jiang Zhi’s friend was just a formality—simply having a meal together.
The dining location was a restaurant near the community, and Ji Fanghuai quickly got ready to walk there with Jiang Zhi.
Jiang Zhi introduced them, saying, “Fanghuai, this is Jin Lin.”
“Hello, Miss Jin,” Ji Fanghuai said. She noticed that all of Jiang Zhi’s friends were attractive. This Jin Lin looked very stylish.
“Hello,” Jin Lin looked at the hat-wearing, seemingly naive Ji Fanghuai and had to admit that the current Ji Fanghuai was completely different from before.
Could amnesia change a person’s temperament?
The more Ji Fanghuai looked at Jin Lin, the more familiar she seemed. Unable to contain her excitement, she asked, “Excuse me, are you Princess Gaoyang from the TV series Prosperous Tang?”
It was the new drama she had been following. Princess Gaoyang and Empress Wu Zetian were a couple (CP), and the plot had been heartbreakingly painful to watch.
“Yes,” Jin Lin was a bit stunned.
Ji Fanghuai hadn’t expected Jiang Zhi’s friend to be a celebrity. The drama she was currently watching, Prosperous Tang, had a very appealing character in Princess Gaoyang, who was smart and decisive, and sacrificed a lot for Wu Zetian.
Such a beautiful, strong, and tragic character was always Ji Fanghuai’s favorite.
Ji Fanghuai hadn’t been nervous initially, thinking she was just meeting a normal friend. Now, she was speechless.
She couldn’t help but ask, “I really love the Princess Gaoyang you played. Can I take a photo with you? Or an autograph would be fine too.”
A hint of contempt flashed in Jin Lin’s eyes, believing this was a deliberate trick played by Ji Fanghuai.
Ji Fanghuai earnestly took out a notebook from her bag, pointed to the bottom right corner, and said, “Please sign here, and write ‘To Ji Fanghuai’s Little Fan’.”
Jin Lin was speechless.
Jin Lin felt like her tightly clenched fist had landed on cotton wool. She reluctantly signed the autograph and took a photo with Ji Fanghuai.
Given that Ji Fanghuai was constantly treating Jin Lin with a fan’s mentality, and with Jiang Zhi and Xin Ling providing lighthearted banter nearby, the entire meal passed without incident.
Before leaving, Ji Fanghuai even smiled at Jin Lin.
“Your friend is actually a celebrity,” Ji Fanghuai sighed.
She realized she truly knew nothing about Jiang Zhi.
She initially thought Jiang Zhi was just an ordinary CEO of a gaming company. She didn’t expect Jiang Zhi to own two properties in the expensive city of A. Just when she thought Jiang Zhi was a minor heiress, Jiang Zhi turned out to be an old schoolmate and close friend of the major celebrity Jin Lin.
She didn’t know how many more secrets Jiang Zhi had waiting for her to uncover, but she instinctively felt that knowing too much wasn’t good.
Jiang Zhi explained, “Jin Lin has good natural qualities. She was spotted by an agency while in college and then entered the entertainment industry.”
“She definitely has great qualities. She’s excellent in every way. I really like the Princess Gaoyang she played,” Ji Fanghuai described. “So commanding, so cool, and so decisive. It’s just a shame the plot was too sad; it broke my heart.”
Jiang Zhi reminded her, “You need to distinguish between the TV series and the real person.”
Ji Fanghuai waved her hand and said, “Don’t worry, I only like the character, not the person.”
Jiang Zhi genuinely hadn’t realized this. Ji Fanghuai truly looked like a little fan when asking for the autograph and photo. Suddenly, she smiled.
Ji Fanghuai was curious. “What are you laughing at?”
“I was thinking about some things from your past,” Jiang Zhi didn’t elaborate, but then said, “She might look for you again later, but it’s okay. We are friends, and she won’t make things difficult for you.”
Ji Fanghuai found it odd. It was just an ordinary friend, yet it sounded like Jin Lin might cause trouble for her. However, Jiang Zhi’s words always made her feel reassured.
Ji Fanghuai went to the coffee shop the next day.
She was the boss. After the initial excitement wore off, she’d only go once in a while to check for any issues needing adjustment and to supervise the employees. Plus, she could leave whenever she wanted.
Because of Jiang Zhi’s wealth, Ji Fanghuai didn’t even have any pressure to operate the business, truly experiencing the benefits of being a capitalist.
Jin Lin came to find her, just as Jiang Zhi had predicted.
Jin Lin was wearing a trench coat, sunglasses covering most of her face, and a mask. Her entire face was completely obscured.
Ji Fanghuai thought it would be more practical to wear a helmet, like Lin Mianmian.
“A latte, please.”
“Miss Jin,” Ji Fanghuai personally brought the coffee over. Compared to yesterday, she seemed a bit distant.
Xin Ling was naturally outgoing and always caught her off guard with her familiarity.
Jin Lin, on the other hand, looked difficult to get along with. Although she was a celebrity Ji Fanghuai liked, Ji Fanghuai was very self-aware. Jin Lin was only willing to give her an autograph and photo because of Jiang Zhi, and Jin Lin’s aura today was completely different from yesterday.
Jin Lin casually said, “Miss Ji, the layout of your coffee shop is very unique. Did you design it yourself?”
Ji Fanghuai didn’t want to play games with her. “Jiang Zhi said we knew each other before.”
Since that was the case, Jin Lin got straight to the point. “To be honest, I really dislike you, and I didn’t want to reminisce with you. I just wanted to see how pathetic you look with amnesia.”
Ji Fanghuai rolled her eyes. What was so interesting about having amnesia? It wasn’t like she was missing an arm or a leg.
“Then look,” Ji Fanghuai truly experienced what it meant for the character and the real person to be two different things.
“Aren’t you curious?” Jin Lin asked, not understanding.
“No,” Ji Fanghuai imitated Jiang Zhi’s poker face.
In fact, she was very curious, but what good would curiosity do? Jiang Zhi wouldn’t tell her anyway.
Jiang Zhi was hiding something from her; she had always been very clear about this.
Even though Jin Lin was good at managing her expressions, she couldn’t help but say angrily, “I love Jiang Zhi.”
“Oh,” Ji Fanghuai remained expressionless. She was surprised inside but didn’t show it.
Jin Lin hadn’t expected Ji Fanghuai to have this reaction, and she felt like half the momentum she had built up had been mysteriously deflated.
She said irritably, “We were roommates in college, and later we started a business together, but I didn’t stick with it. The Princess Gaoyang you mentioned yesterday is the role I’m most satisfied with so far.”
That tone seemed to imply that Ji Fanghuai had good taste.
“Oh,” Ji Fanghuai was impervious to her attempts to provoke. She was more interested in Princess Gaoyang. “I heard that Prosperous Tang has a side story later?”
Jin Lin was displeased. “Are you only concerned about the TV series? You don’t care about Jiang Zhi at all?”
“Well, what should I do? If she was going to like you, she would have done so already,” Ji Fanghuai acted very innocent. “And whether she likes you or not, what does that have to do with me? I have amnesia.”
“Is that how you view her? Aren’t you afraid I’ll tell all this to Jiang Zhi?” Jin Lin raised an eyebrow, starting to look at Ji Fanghuai with a bit of respect.
“I’m stating a fact.” Although Ji Fanghuai felt a little guilty, what she said was the truth.
Jin Lin felt like they were talking past each other. She symbolically took two sips of coffee and reluctantly said, “There is indeed a side story for Prosperous Tang.”
Ji Fanghuai’s curiosity was fully piqued. She searched online but found no side story, figuring Jin Lin must have played a trick on her again.
Again?
Why did she say again?
Ji Fanghuai guessed it might have been something that happened before her amnesia.
“Jin Lin came to see me today. She said she likes you,” Ji Fanghuai told Jiang Zhi straightforwardly when she got home.
She felt that people who constantly talked about love and romance were actually enviable, suggesting they had no other worries. Truly busy people didn’t have time to bother with romance.
And she was currently in that state—very idle. Unfortunately, she didn’t feel much romantic love; being with Jiang Zhi felt more like sharing a life together.
Jiang Zhi explained, “We are just friends.”
“Yeah, that’s what I thought too.” Ji Fanghuai realized that when she heard Jin Lin say she liked Jiang Zhi, she actually felt a little annoyed.
After all, Jiang Zhi and she were fiancées. She had every right to be annoyed.
Jiang Zhi asked, “She didn’t make things difficult for you, did she?”
“She did,” Ji Fanghuai saw Jiang Zhi’s expression change slightly, knowing she misunderstood. “She said Prosperous Tang has a side story, but I searched online and found nothing. She lied to me.”
Jiang Zhi was relieved. “That drama does have a side story, but it hasn’t been uploaded to the website.”
“How do you know?” Ji Fanghuai was curious.
Jiang Zhi slowly said, “Xin Ling invested in the drama.”
Ji Fanghuai was silent for a second. “Am I rich?”
Was she a minor heiress before her amnesia? Or was she very poor? That’s why Jiang Zhi’s friends didn’t think highly of her.
Ji Fanghuai believed no one would lose interest in money.
Jiang Zhi paused, only saying, “You are different from them. Don’t underestimate yourself.”
Ji Fanghuai mumbled, “Of course I’m different from them. You’ve been friends for so many years.”
She didn’t know why, but her tone carried a hint of displeasure.
“Are you jealous?” Jiang Zhi asked, a question, but her eyes brightened a few shades.
“I don’t like sour things,” Ji Fanghuai immediately denied. “I only like sweets.”
Actually, she should be jealous. She and Jiang Zhi were fiancées, but apart from being a little unhappy, she didn’t feel much else.
Ji Fanghuai attributed it to the missing memories of her time with Jiang Zhi, which made her lose the ability to be jealous. And maybe she and Jiang Zhi hadn’t even reached the stage of being jealous?
Jiang Zhi’s happy expression faded, seemingly disappointed that she wasn’t jealous. Ji Fanghuai also couldn’t pretend to be jealous and could only awkwardly pet the cat.
Fortunately, Jiang Zhi didn’t continue to dwell on the issue. Jin Lin didn’t come to look for her again later. The strange things she said at the coffee shop seemed to have only been intended to provoke her.
It was Jiang Zhi’s grandmother’s birthday. Ji Fanghuai didn’t plan to go, and Jiang Zhi didn’t seem to plan to take her, only giving her a long, earnest set of instructions before leaving.
“Remember to take Mili with you when you go out. Call me anytime if something happens. Aunt Chu will look after the house. Don’t do any strenuous exercise. Remember to take your medicine on time. Don’t let Xixi into the bedroom.”
It was as if she wasn’t four years older than her, but forty.
Ji Fanghuai was startled by this thought and quickly said, “Go on, go on. Who can’t take care of themselves?”
Jiang Zhi felt a sense of being rejected and lowered her eyes, looking a little wronged. After a moment of hesitation, she still walked over and hugged her.
Jiang Zhi’s breath tickled her ear, and Ji Fanghuai’s mind went blank, already starting to overthink.
