After Losing My Memory, I Suddenly Had A Fiancée - Chapter 16
The sofa sank deeper and deeper, and Ji Fanghuai felt like she was suffocating if they didn’t stop.
Jiang Zhi gently cradled Ji Fanghuai’s head with one hand placed on her soft hair, and the other supported Ji Fanghuai’s shoulder, urging her to relax.
Then came a sharp, painful sting on her lips. The passion in Jiang Zhi’s eyes slowly faded, and she dazedly released Ji Fanghuai.
“I’m sorry,” Ji Fanghuai said, retreating backward. Her lips were temptingly luscious, and her eyes were wet.
Seeing the bright red liquid on Jiang Zhi’s lip, Ji Fanghuai regretted biting so hard in her haste and fumbled for a tissue to wipe it for her.
Jiang Zhi was still spacing out, staring blankly at Ji Fanghuai, who had pushed her away.
“Have we kissed before?” Ji Fanghuai tried to find a reasonable excuse for biting her.
Jiang Zhi’s gaze slowly focused. She pursed her lips—the taste of rust. She asked, “What do you think?”
Ji Fanghuai knew the answer was definitely yes.
They had been dating for three years; even the most reserved person would have done what needed to be done.
“I… I think I’m not very good at it…” Ji Fanghuai tried to be as tactful as possible, seeking an excuse for having injured her.
She honestly didn’t know what was wrong; she just felt uncomfortable. When Jiang Zhi’s lips pressed against hers, she felt confused and didn’t know what to do.
Just as Jiang Zhi thought things were warming up and they could go further, Ji Fanghuai started feeling uneasy and anxious.
That sense of anxiety made her disregard Jiang Zhi’s feelings and bite her.
“I can teach you if you don’t know how.” After Jiang Zhi said this, she saw Ji Fanghuai stiffen up, ready to turn into a quail again. She sighed to herself and got up to go to the bathroom.
Cold water slid down her face. Jiang Zhi lowered her eyes, forcefully suppressing the desires that had surfaced because of the special occasion of her birthday.
In the mirror, a large patch of her forehead hair was wet, and her lips were slightly swollen, oozing faint traces of blood.
Jiang Zhi composed herself in front of the mirror for a long time, seemingly adjusting her emotions or perhaps savoring the memory. Then, she returned to the living room as if nothing had happened.
A perfectly good birthday had become awkward. Ji Fanghuai felt only guilt and self-reproach.
Logically, Jiang Zhi initiated the kiss abruptly, so she, the one being kissed, should be the one in the right.
However, since they were a couple, this whole thing was considered normal. Instead, her biting Jiang Zhi when she was in the throes of passion seemed excessively rude.
Perhaps she should have specified that intimate contact should also be restricted when she said she wouldn’t marry her.
Ji Fanghuai pondered this in her mind.
Jiang Zhi glanced at Ji Fanghuai, saw her looking uneasy, and noticed her full, lusciously inviting lips. She suppressed her turbulent emotions and went straight back to the bedroom to make the bed.
Now, even seeing Jiang Zhi make the bed made Ji Fanghuai overthink things. She was genuinely startled by the intensity of Jiang Zhi’s passion during the kiss.
Jiang Zhi usually appeared very reserved, rarely even wearing dresses. Only when her hair was wet and she was wearing pajamas did she reveal a hint of laziness and intoxication.
Yet, she hadn’t expected Jiang Zhi to be so passionate when kissing her, almost impatient.
Ji Fanghuai touched her lips, wanting to speak but not knowing what to say.
Should she say, ‘I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have suddenly bitten you when you were completely immersed’?
Jiang Zhi would kill her for that.
Ji Fanghuai sat outside for a long time, wondering if she should sleep in the second bedroom tonight.
After much hesitation, she finished washing up in the communal bathroom outside, and just as Jiang Zhi was about to come out and drag her, she chose to return to the master bedroom.
She tiptoed in. Jiang Zhi was already lying on the bed with her eyes closed.
Ji Fanghuai secretly breathed a sigh of relief. She quietly climbed into bed, keeping a significant distance from Jiang Zhi.
She thought it would be best if they just slept and woke up pretending nothing had happened.
However, it was precisely at this moment that she couldn’t sleep. Ji Fanghuai tossed and turned; her mind filled with the suffocating kiss from moments ago.
Just then, Jiang Zhi suddenly reached out and hugged her, burying her head in Ji Fanghuai’s neck, motionless.
Filled with guilt and self-reproach, Ji Fanghuai cautiously asked, “Is your wound, okay?”
“Try biting me again, and you’ll find out,” Jiang Zhi’s voice was muffled. Ji Fanghuai could even detect a hint of grievance.
“I think I’ll pass on that,” Ji Fanghuai chuckled awkwardly.
Jiang Zhi didn’t say anything more. Being held, Ji Fanghuai surprisingly started to feel sleepy and soon drifted off.
When she woke up in the morning, the person beside her was gone. Ji Fanghuai thought Jiang Zhi was still upset about last night.
She haphazardly tidied her hair and went out in her pajamas, thinking she should first apologize to Jiang Zhi and then bring up the topic of limiting intimacy.
Ji Fanghuai prepared her words, rehearsed her speech, and tried hard to put on a bright smile. As soon as she stepped out, she saw Xin Ling and Shen Jing both present. Jiang Zhi stared at her, seemingly surprised that she had come out in her pajamas.
“Fanghuai, good morning,” Xin Ling’s eyes darted over her, smiling ambiguously.
“I’m sorry,” Ji Fanghuai was terribly embarrassed and rushed back into the room to change. Shen Jing was as aloof as ever.
“It wasn’t for nothing that I watched the company for you for so long; I lost a lot of brain cells. It seems the reward is significant,” Xin Ling said suggestively, pointing to Jiang Zhi’s swollen lip.
Jiang Zhi glanced at Shen Jing and said coldly, “If you don’t talk, no one will think you’re a mute.”
Xin Ling lay sprawled out on the sofa, exaggeratedly covering her mouth, and loudly grumbled, “Daring to do it but not daring to talk about it! Is there no justice in this world?”
Shen Jing, upon seeing the redness and swelling on Jiang Zhi’s lip, had a fleeting look of sadness in her eyes. She said, “Grandma’s birthday is next month. You must go back this time.”
“Yes, I will go back,” Jiang Zhi replied.
Seeing that Ji Fanghuai hadn’t come out yet, Xin Ling suddenly remembered something and added, “You should also come back to the company. Jin Lin is back. We should get together.”
Jiang Zhi was momentarily surprised, then said, “Okay.”
By the time Ji Fanghuai finished changing and washing up, the atmosphere had returned to its original state.
Xin Ling extended her hand and stroked Ji Fanghuai’s soft hair on her head as if petting a cat. She said, “I had something to do yesterday for your birthday, so I couldn’t come. I brought your gift today.”
It was a simple ladies’ wristwatch.
Ji Fanghuai smiled sweetly and said, “Thank you, Sister Xin.”
Xin Ling looked quite pleased, flicked her hair, and, not one to shy away from trouble, said, “Let me be clear, even though I’m giving you a biao, it doesn’t mean I’m biao (confessing/expressing feelings). Jiang Zhi knows this best.”
Jiang Zhi didn’t want to engage with her but was quite bothered by Ji Fanghuai calling her “Sister Xin.”
Shen Jing merely offered a simple blessing: “Happy Birthday.”
Her tone was light, but Ji Fanghuai felt there was an unspoken meaning in it.
She had expected Shen Jing to completely ignore her birthday, so she was pleasantly surprised to receive a blessing. She said, “Thank you, Cousin.”
Ji Fanghuai had hoped for an opportunity to talk frankly with Jiang Zhi right after waking up, but with Xin Ling and Shen Jing present, she had to put the idea aside for now.
Given the rare gathering and the unexpected incident last night, Ji Fanghuai didn’t feel like going to the coffee shop all day and just lay on the sofa watching a new drama.
Xin Ling was restless wherever she was, chasing the fat cat Xixi everywhere, and only left after lunch.
Shen Jing looked at Ji Fanghuai before leaving.
Ji Fanghuai felt inexplicably stared at but didn’t dwell on it.
“I have something I want to talk to you about,” Ji Fanghuai tried to make herself look formal as she sat face-to-face with Jiang Zhi across the tea table on the balcony.
If possible, she even wanted to sign a contract with Jiang Zhi, but that would be too much.
Jiang Zhi assumed a receptive posture and asked, “What do you want to talk about?”
“I want…” Ji Fanghuai felt a bit guilty seeing Jiang Zhi’s lips still slightly swollen. “I want to know if we can make an agreement—that is, let’s not be so intimate for now. It’s not that I forbid intimacy, but rather…”
But rather, to limit the degree of intimacy.
Jiang Zhi didn’t wait for her to finish and apologized first, saying, “Last night was my fault.”
Ji Fanghuai looked confused.
How was her biting Jiang Zhi her fault?
She had already put herself in Jiang Zhi’s shoes and realized that everything Jiang Zhi did yesterday was just normal affection between lovers, and it was her reaction that was excessive.
Now that Jiang Zhi apologized, she felt even more guilty.
But she was worried about a next time, so she wanted to make an agreement with Jiang Zhi first to avoid another mutually damaging situation.
Seeing her disbelief, Jiang Zhi tried to stand up. Ji Fanghuai quickly said, “Don’t move. Let me think first.”
Jiang Zhi nodded, indulging her, and said, “Okay, you think.”
“Could you not be so sudden next time?” Ji Fanghuai recalled the scene of herself biting Jiang Zhi yesterday and still felt incredibly awkward.
Jiang Zhi didn’t understand and asked, “Should I tell you beforehand?”
“In any case, you were the one who suggested ‘taking things slow,'” Ji Fanghuai mumbled softly while holding the cat. “You said we should let things happen naturally and that I shouldn’t rush to recover my memory.”
Xixi also let out a fierce “meow” at Jiang Zhi, seemingly agreeing with Ji Fanghuai’s statement.
Jiang Zhi pursed her lips, looking troubled. Finally, she said earnestly, “I promise you, I won’t suddenly stick out my tongue next time.”
“Is this about sticking out your tongue?” Ji Fanghuai was in helpless fury, almost throwing the cat in her arms at Jiang Zhi’s face.
