After Little Sweet Omega Runs with the Ball - Chapter 47
Song Shuangtian was pressed down onto the hospital bed. Ji Mingxue stood by the door, her gaze fixed firmly on her.
Song Shuangtian thought to herself, I am not going to run away.
Still uneasy, Ji Mingxue kept her eyes on Song Shuangtian. Watching the doctor perform various examinations, Ji Mingxue’s palms were slick with cold sweat.
“Work.”
“What?”
Song Shuangtian’s face was flushed—an unnatural, feverish crimson—and sweat dampened the hair on her forehead. She tremblingly raised her hand and pointed at the laptop in Ji Mingxue’s grip.
“You said you would help me handle work.”
Ji Mingxue remained silent. She took a deep breath. Was her Omega perhaps a little too in love with her job?
The doctor interrupted the stagnant atmosphere. “During a period of pheromone abnormality, work is not suitable.”
Song Shuangtian stubbornly tried to continue signaling the Alpha; however, her fingers were quickly caught and held within Ji Mingxue’s palm.
“How is the patient’s condition?” Ji Mingxue asked.
The doctor retracted the instruments. “Her heart rate and blood pressure are normal, and there is no inflammation in the body. However, the Alpha pheromone levels in the patient’s system have exceeded the limit.”
The doctor’s voice carried a note of condemnation, which Ji Mingxue received loud and clear.
“As an Alpha partner, you should pay more attention to your Omega’s health. A sudden marking can cause a reaction similar to oxygen toxicity in an Omega who has not received Alpha pheromones for a long time.”
As an Alpha who was usually high and mighty, she was rarely accused of being inadequate to her face. “I am sorry,” she whispered, looking as submissive as possible.
The atmosphere in the room turned awkward. Passing nurses peeked in, and several medical students were loitering and whispering nearby.
# Which Alpha is so powerful they marked an Omega into a medical emergency? # # Impressive. That is a ‘less than one in ten thousand’ probability from the textbooks, and we just witnessed it. #
Ji Mingxue felt the weight of their words. Fortunately, the hospital’s privacy protocols were excellent, and the dignity of the head of the M Group remained intact.
Before leaving, the doctor advised, “The patient needs prolonged rest. As an Alpha relative, you need to stay by her side long-term and release your pheromones gently. Do not be impatient.”
“Alright.”
Once everyone left, Song Shuangtian struggled to sit up, only to be held down by Ji Mingxue. The Alpha gripped the Omega’s wrist, her thumb pressing against the bone.
“Song Shuangtian.”
The Alpha’s voice was so deep it made Song Shuangtian shrink back unnaturally. Ji Mingxue’s dark, heavy gaze fell on her face. She could not help but wonder: back when Song Shuangtian was pregnant alone, were there moments when she was this fragile? Did she also drag herself up to work back then?
Reborn had just been established, and everything required Song Shuangtian’s personal oversight. The resources and achievements they saw now were nothing but an unreachable dream back then. Song Shuangtian must have endured the discomfort of pregnancy while drawing designs day and night, unable to stop working despite fevers, nausea, or dizziness.
I really am a bastard, Ji Mingxue thought as she slapped her own forehead.
Song Shuangtian remarked, “If I remember correctly, I am the one who is sick. If you are feeling unwell, you can visit the psychiatry department.”
Ji Mingxue let out a frustrated laugh. “Rest well. I will take care of the work.”
Song Shuangtian buried her head in the covers. Little Sweetie was getting sleepy. Once she knew she did not have to work, the weight on her heart finally lifted. Drowsiness washed over her like waves. “There are still thirty-four emails to reply to. You cannot peek at Reborn’s internal files.”
Ji Mingxue replied, “Fine.”
Song Shuangtian was likely confused by the fever. If she was letting Ji Mingxue read her emails, how could she avoid the internal files? The semi-conscious Omega reached out an arm and pulled Ji Mingxue into a hug.
The Alpha allowed it, her body sinking onto the narrow hospital bed. The white sheets smelled faintly of disinfectant, and the Omega beside her was soft and hot. Her breath was scorching. Ji Mingxue’s dark eyes grew even darker. She reached out with one hand to grab the heavy laptop and placed it on the bed.
“Ji Mingxue,” the Omega called her name in her sleep. “Where are you?”
“I am here.”
“Where? My stomach hurts so much.”
Song Shuangtian mumbled her name, curling herself into a small ball. “My stomach hurts.”
“I will call the doctor.”
“Am I going to have the baby? I am so scared.”
These dream-like words pierced Ji Mingxue’s ears. Her hand, which had been gently checking Song Shuangtian’s abdomen for pain, froze. She had originally thought it was a gastrointestinal issue, but now it seemed to be a deeper trauma.
“I am here.”
Ji Mingxue found that she actually could not understand most of Reborn’s internal emails. She only replied to the ones related to cooperation with the M Group. After finishing those, only non-urgent matters remained.
Knowing the butler was watching over Guanguan, Ji Mingxue sent a message asking He Yanyan to come over.
Song Shuangtian’s sleep was restless. Her burning forehead leaned against Ji Mingxue’s arm. The Omega was too hot and sought out the cool areas of the Alpha’s body, clinging to her like an octopus.
“Careful!” Ji Mingxue caught the laptop before it slid off the bed. “Tiantian?”
The Omega’s warm, soft body completely covered Ji Mingxue, her fingers wandering near the side of the Alpha’s neck.
“Ji Mingxue, you are so mean.” Song Shuangtian’s breath brushed against her lips. “How could you mark me, an Alpha, and get me pregnant?”
“How are you so capable?”
“If you are that capable, why do you not just go to heaven?”
Ji Mingxue had no answer. One of Song Shuangtian’s hands moved along Ji Mingxue’s neck, while the other landed right on her tailbone. The Alpha’s back stiffened. “Tiantian, do not play around.”
“Tell me, if I bite you now, will you get pregnant too?”
No sooner were the words said than Ji Mingxue’s neck was suddenly bitten. Small, sharp teeth grazed the skin where there was no gland, causing nothing but a tingling sting.
Ji Mingxue felt like she was going crazy. Who acts like this while sleeping with a fever? She felt sorry for Song Shuangtian, but she also tried to peel the Omega off her.
Song Shuangtian seemed determined to mark Ji Mingxue into pregnancy. Having missed the gland once, she went for another bite. It was not until a hint of blood touched her tongue that the feverish Song Shuangtian realized something was wrong.
The Omega was angry. Why should she have to go through this? She was originally an Alpha, but after being marked by Ji Mingxue, she became an Omega. She never used to have heat cycles or susceptibility periods. Now, she was a fragile little Omega who suffered through them every year.
“Hello.”
The ward door was suddenly pushed open. The nurse’s pupils dilated in shock at the sight.
Ji Mingxue exhaled slowly. “Is something wrong?”
The nurse held Song Shuangtian’s test results. Ji Mingxue took the sheet and listened as the nurse said, “The patient’s condition is not great. Several indicators are substandard. I have brought the medication. Please make sure she takes it.”
Ji Mingxue looked at the sea of red on the report, and her heart sank. Every indicator related to pheromones was failing. Pregnancy had drained too much energy from the Omega, causing continuous wear on her body. Coupled with her neglect of her own health and lack of check-ups, her constitution was a mess.
And she is flying all over the world with this body? And she is supposed to go to a mining area in Africa in three days?
Ji Mingxue was almost driven to a frustrated laugh by the situation. Yet, the Omega who held all her heartstrings was completely oblivious.
“Ji Mingxue, I hate you.”
The little Omega slumped tiredly into Ji Mingxue’s arms, her hands haphazardly pulling open the Alpha’s collar and burying her face in her chest.
“You are so annoying. Why is it not you breastfeeding the child?” “I want to see if you even have milk.”
Ji Mingxue was horrified. She looked up at the door. There was a glass window designed for nurses to observe patients, which was now her greatest source of anxiety. It was another day of social death.
“So soft.” Song Shuangtian’s hot breath hit the Alpha’s chest. She wanted to give it a squeeze. The Alpha worked out; there was no reason she should have less milk than her.
In her clouded mind, Song Shuangtian had forgotten that only Omegas produce milk during pregnancy. She did not care. She wanted to taste it. She wanted to try the flavor that Guanguan had never had.
Ji Mingxue stared blankly at the ceiling. She thought this was all karma. She closed her eyes in despair. It hurt a little at first, but eventually, she could not help but say, “You have the wrong position!”
The feverish Song Shuangtian looked confused.
When He Yanyan saw Ji Mingxue, she almost thought she had the wrong person. The person before her was in a state of disarray. Though her clothes were technically on, her hair was a mess, her coat was wrinkled, and there were unmistakable red marks and teeth indentations on her neck.
What a miserable Alpha.
Guanguan’s fever had subsided, and she was clutching the rabbit plushie Ji Mingxue had brought. He Yanyan stood up. “President Ji.”
Ji Mingxue nodded. “Thank you for your hard work.”
He Yanyan did not think it was hard. “I raised Guanguan. She is a very good child.”
The two met in the private hospital’s café. Ji Mingxue ordered a small cream cake for He Yanyan. “There are some things I would like to understand.”
He Yanyan had rushed over today. She was busy with her engagement to Yuan Yin and would not have come for anyone else. “President Ji, feel free to speak.”
She did not know what they had to talk about. She did not see herself as being on the same level as Ji Mingxue, nor did she have any desire for social climbing. She just wanted to live a good life with Yuan Yin. Honestly, she harbored some resentment toward Ji Mingxue. She had once thought that if Song Shuangtian truly hated her, she would take her and Guanguan abroad and never see this person again.
Ji Mingxue took a sip of water. “I want to know about the time when Song Shuangtian was pregnant.”
He Yanyan paused. Aside from Song Shuangtian, there really was nothing else for them to discuss. She was silent for a long time. “What aspect does President Ji want to know about?”
Ji Mingxue’s heart ached. She tightened her grip on her glass. “Everything. Tell me everything related to her.”
“I am sorry, I cannot do that.”
“Why?”
“Shuangtian will not let me talk about it.” Seeing Ji Mingxue looking as if she were about to shatter, He Yanyan finally softened. “I can only tell you some of the smaller details. For instance, because of the lack of Alpha pheromones, her amniotic fluid leaked early, and she nearly died in labor.”
The café was empty except for them. Light music played in the background. It was summer, and the air conditioning was blowing cold enough to chill one’s hands and feet. Outside, dark clouds gathered, and a heavy rain began to batter the glass. Lightning flashed, followed by low rumbles of thunder.
Ji Mingxue clenched her teeth. With a sudden surge of strength, a crack appeared in the glass cup she was holding.
He Yanyan said, “President Ji, stay calm. I was just getting to the part where the fetus was in the wrong position, and she might have needed a C-section.”
Ji Mingxue set down the nearly shattered glass. A cut had appeared in her palm. He Yanyan thought inappropriately that if the M Group ever went bankrupt, Ji Mingxue could probably find work at a construction site.
Ji Mingxue had no idea what she was thinking. “My bracelet.”
He Yanyan replied, “Yes. Luckily, Shuangtian found your jade bracelet. It was quite a coincidence. You were making a scene all over the capital looking for it, and she just happened to find it while walking by the lake. You two really are fated.”
Her Omega, relying on the Alpha pheromones soaked into that bracelet over the years, had managed to give birth to Guanguan. The bracelet that Ji Mingxue had turned the world upside down for became Song Shuangtian’s only companion. The irony was that the bracelet had originally belonged to Song Shuangtian’s mother. It never belonged to Ji Mingxue in the first place.
After saying goodbye to He Yanyan, the Alpha rushed into the restroom. Her emotions were so intense she felt like vomiting. She dry-heaved, but nothing came up. Her stomach churned as thunder boomed outside. She turned on the tap to wash her face with cold water. The woman in the mirror looked far too pale.
The delivery room under the shadowless lamps, the Omega’s cries of pain, the cold surgical instruments; the smell of disinfectant in the air made Ji Mingxue feel as if she were standing in that delivery room right now. Another wave of dry-heaving hit.
She really was a scoundrel.
Ji Mingxue looked so frightening that other patients’ families avoided her. When Guanguan finished her IV drip, this was the scene she saw.
“Mother, is Mother sick? Did Guanguan give it to Mother? Guanguan did not mean it. I am sorry, it is all Guanguan’s fault.”
Ji Mingxue wiped the cold water from her face, not wanting her child to see her so disheveled. “It is okay. Mother is very healthy.” She knelt on the floor, pulling Guanguan into a tight embrace. Her “Jar,” her Guanguan. She had almost lost her, and she had almost lost Song Shuangtian.
Only now did Ji Mingxue realize the origin of the name “Guanguan.” She had not paid much attention before, but now she knew the risks hidden behind that nickname.
Guanguan was curious. The child pulled out a small biscuit her aunt had secretly stuffed into her pocket. “Mother, have a biscuit. This is my last one.”
After her nap, Song Shuangtian was entirely unaware of Ji Mingxue’s internal turmoil. She woke up, washed her face, and asked the nurse to remove the needle from her hand.
“Are the pheromone levels stable now?” “Yes, but the patient must remember not to overwork herself.” “Okay.”
While drying her face with a handkerchief, she received a call from her aunt.
“Aunt?”
The elegant noblewoman on the phone asked, “Are you in a meeting? Have you been too busy lately?”
Song Shuangtian checked her phone and noticed four missed calls. Not daring to say she was hospitalized, she replied, “Yes, I was just in a meeting.” She sat on a bench in the hallway. “Is something wrong?”
The woman spoke slowly. “I have a surgery coming up soon. If all goes well, it will be the last one for a few years.”
Song Shuangtian sat up straight. “I will go take care of you tonight.”
“Wait, you child.” Her aunt sighed helplessly. “I have plenty of people to look after me. I just wanted to discuss the cooperation with the cruise ship company.”
After her aunt explained the details, Song Shuangtian paced the hallway. “So you do not want to handle it? You are handing it all to me?”
“I have a few good people who will join Reborn in a few days. You handle the handover.”
Song Shuangtian hung up and went to buy a coffee. Her aunt had always been strong-willed. She would not mention a surgery unless it was absolutely necessary. Song Shuangtian felt helpless regarding her aunt’s personality. She would never admit to being unwell until the last possible moment.
Work, work, and more work. Song Shuangtian scratched her head, pulling out a clump of hair. Great, I am going to go bald.
Leaning against the window with her coffee, she sipped it slowly while feeling the damp breeze. She was worried. Her aunt needed care, and she could not ignore that. But she had to go on a business trip in a few days, and her work responsibilities were equally pressing. It was a headache.
When Ji Mingxue arrived carrying Guanguan, she saw the Omega standing alone by the window, looking desolate. Her lips were colorless. She looked sickly as she drank her coffee, one hand was resting vaguely on her abdomen, and the other was trying to open the window as far as it would go.
Combined with the hospital atmosphere, she looked like a tragic pregnant woman who had been tricked and abandoned, ready to jump and end her sorrows.
“Song Shuangtian!”
The startled Song Shuangtian froze. She turned her head slowly, like a frame-by-frame playback, but before she could see clearly, she was pulled into Ji Mingxue’s embrace. The Alpha held her tightly, her cold and powerful Magnolia pheromones wrapping around her like a cocoon. Every bit of the scent spoke of longing and worry.
Song Shuangtian was confused. She found this inexplicable. The Alpha was suppressing a mountain of emotions. Song Shuangtian’s sweet pheromones made it impossible for her to control her impulses, but she also knew that if she lost control and hurt her, it would only make things worse. She would lose her wife forever.
Song Shuangtian had no idea what Ji Mingxue was imagining. “Are you also delirious from the fever?”
“Do not jump.” Ji Mingxue’s face looked no better than Song Shuangtian’s. In fact, it looked worse.
Song Shuangtian said expressionlessly, “Am I crazy or are you? I am going to give up my company? My child? My life? This is the second floor. How about I push you out and see if you even manage to die?” What kind of suicidal image did the Alpha have of her?
Ji Mingxue had no words. Her eyes were bloodshot. She suddenly pulled a paper cutter from her bag and placed it in Song Shuangtian’s hand. The cold metal rested in her palm, leaving her baffled.
“If you hate me, you can stab me. I know this cannot make up for the pain of childbirth, but I will do my best to compensate you. With an Alpha’s constitution, a stab to the heart will not kill me.”
Song Shuangtian was both angry and annoyed. Though the fever was gone, her body was still weak. She somehow found the strength to throw the knife back into Ji Mingxue’s lap.
“You want to settle the score with one stab? Dream on.”
She glared at the Alpha, a look that actually sent a spark through Ji Mingxue. Ji Mingxue coughed and lowered her head, gripping the small knife that still held Song Shuangtian’s warmth. Seeing that she was safe, the weight on her heart finally lifted.
# My wife is so good #
“I have a job for you.” Song Shuangtian stroked Guanguan’s braids. “My aunt is having surgery soon. You go to the nursing home and take care of her.”
“Alright.” Ji Mingxue agreed immediately. “But your work is too exhausting.”
Song Shuangtian asked, “What, you want to seize power?”
As the head of the M Group, Ji Mingxue naturally had an innate thirst for power. If it were any other company, she would have acted already. But facing Song Shuangtian, she said, “I would not dare.”
Song Shuangtian’s expression softened slightly. “I had a dream while I was in bed. I dreamt about you.” She signaled the butler to take Guanguan away.
In the empty hallway, the wind and rain blew through the crack in the window onto Ji Mingxue’s face. “What?”
Song Shuangtian’s face flushed first. “I dreamt you were in your lactation period and had milk.”
Ji Mingxue remained silent.
Song Shuangtian continued, “I even went in for a bite.”
Ji Mingxue’s expression became increasingly strange.
Song Shuangtian added, “But no matter how I chewed, I could not get any. So weird.”
Ji Mingxue said flatly, “It certainly is weird.”
Song Shuangtian muttered to herself, “The reason you had milk was because I bit your neck and you turned from an Alpha into an Omega.” Suddenly remembering something, she looked up and saw the red marks on Ji Mingxue’s neck. “The mosquitoes in summer are quite poisonous. I did not expect your pungent pheromones would fail to repel them.”
Her beautiful but useless wife.
“Mph!”
The Omega was suddenly pressed against the wall of the narrow hospital stairwell. Ji Mingxue’s hug seemed aggressive at first glance, but her touch was extremely gentle. She pried open Song Shuangtian’s lips. “It is a failure of a subordinate to not provide the Chairman with a satisfactory taste. Let me apologize.”
The doctor had told Ji Mingxue that as a partner, she needed to gently release a moderate amount of pheromones to speed up the balance in Song Shuangtian’s body. Ji Mingxue was going to treat her Omega properly.
“Chairman,” Ji Mingxue whispered hoarsely. “Can I kiss your belly?”
Song Shuangtian’s pupils shook. “No!”
The ambitious secretary revealed her wolf-like nature while the Chairman was unwell. She knelt on the ground and lifted the Chairman’s clothing. Her lips pressed against Song Shuangtian’s abdomen in a posture of devotion. Her uneasy heart was finally wrapped in warmth.
Song Shuangtian’s abdomen was no longer as flawless as white jade. It bore the marks that only come after giving birth. They were like sacred totems. Song Shuangtian tried to push Ji Mingxue’s head away, but her hands were pinned.
This person! Does she have any self-awareness as a high-compatibility partner? Did she listen to the doctor at all? Gentle pheromone release?
The sensation of lips on her abdomen was both itchy and electric. Song Shuangtian leaned the back of her head against the cold tiles in a state of collapse.
This was cheating.
