After Little Sweet Omega Runs with the Ball - Chapter 46
Ji Mingxue squeezed the dirty rabbit plushie in her hand with force.
Over the phone, the Omega let out a broken cry. Her voice trembled, and then, feeling a wave of shyness, she flipped her phone face down onto the bed. Ji Mingxue’s ears and face turned crimson instantly.
The Alpha broke into a run, disregarding everything else. She slammed her foot on the gas and sped directly toward Song Shuangtian’s house. Song Shuangtian was truly losing it, and so was she. The phone lay on the passenger seat, occasionally transmitting faint, lingering sighs and whimpers.
Ji Mingxue breathed deeply of the cold air inside the car, her fingernails digging into the steering wheel and leaving crescent-shaped marks.
“Wait for me. I am coming back right now.”
Song Shuangtian said tremulously, “Go as far away as possible and drop dead.”
Ji Mingxue’s lips pressed into a straight line, though a nearly imperceptible curve tugged at the corners.
“Five minutes until I am home.”
Fortunately, she hit every green light along the way, and there was no traffic. A layer of hot sweat broke out on Ji Mingxue’s forehead. The Alpha’s pheromones filled the cramped interior of the car, unable to dissipate.
As the knocking sounded at the door, Song Shuangtian no longer wanted to deal with Ji Mingxue. She buried her head in the bedding, curling herself into a little “furball.” It had taken Ji Mingxue fifteen minutes to rush there, which was the absolute limit of time. Song Shuangtian felt it was too slow.
It was too much. If she had not taken the initiative to call Ji Mingxue, would Ji Mingxue even have known to come looking for her? The Omega looked down quite unreasonably, muffling herself under the duvet that was saturated with the scent of orange blossoms.
Ji Mingxue did not have the password or the key to Song Shuangtian’s house. She felt as though she could smell the Omega’s pheromones right through the door. They were dense, sweet, and alluring. The scent was so intoxicating that it felt like a supreme blessing for an Alpha just to catch a whiff of it. Song Shuangtian’s pheromones could drive any Alpha obsessed with her into a state of absolute frenzy.
Ji Mingxue’s eyes were shot through with red streaks, and the veins on the back of her hands bulged from the force of her grip. She immediately keyed in Guanguan’s birthday as the password.
Incorrect password.
Ji Mingxue’s fingertips paused. At a time like this, Song Shuangtian still would not let her in. Beads of sweat rolled down Ji Mingxue’s forehead. She was almost driven to a frustrated laugh by Song Shuangtian’s little games.
“Song Shuangtian,” Ji Mingxue said to the call interface, “what is the password?”
Song Shuangtian did not speak again. There was only the sound of hurried breathing, amplified through the receiver. Every wisp of sound tugged at Ji Mingxue’s taut heartstrings.
Dammit.
Ji Mingxue closed her eyes for a moment, resting her forehead against her fist. It was not Guanguan’s birthday. Was it Song Shuangtian’s own birthday? Ji Mingxue entered the next string of numbers.
Incorrect password.
One attempt remaining. By now, Ji Mingxue had actually calmed down. She paced in place, her dark eyes flashing as she thought rapidly.
“Ji Mingxue, where are you?” Song Shuangtian whimpered over the phone. She had already forgotten her instruction for Ji Mingxue to “drop dead.”
Ji Mingxue replied, “I am at your front door.”
Song Shuangtian seemed to hear her, yet also seemed not to. The sound on the phone changed to the rustling of someone tossing and turning in the bedding. It was a total mess.
“My body is so hot, it hurts. Hurry up and come in.”
Ji Mingxue stared silently at the digital lock with its one remaining chance. She pressed her finger to the screen and finally, with difficulty, entered a string of numbers. If this attempt failed, she would need the Omega in heat to open the door for her.
Ding-dong.
The lock glowed green. With a click, the bolt retracted. Ji Mingxue pushed the handle, kicked off her shoes, and entered the house. The password was Ji Mingxue’s own birthday. She had not actually expected it to be correct and had been mentally prepared to humbly beg Song Shuangtian for the code.
Her own birthday?
Something in the softest part of Ji Mingxue’s heart was touched.
Song Shuangtian was lying face-up on the bed, her clothes scattered on the floor. Her pale, lustrous skin took on the hue of warm jade under a thin beam of sunlight. The Omega’s long, seaweed-like hair spread across the silk sheets. Seeing the Alpha standing by the door, she narrowed her eyes and gave her a wink.
“Come here,” the Omega commanded hoarsely.
Ji Mingxue placed the dirty rabbit doll on the nightstand. After a moment of thought, she used her necktie to cover the rabbit’s eyes. The Omega pressed a foot against Ji Mingxue’s chest. Ji Mingxue’s fingers wrapped around the Omega’s ankle.
Her throat tightened. “Your body is burning.”
The bedsheets could only be described as a disaster. The concentration of Omega pheromones in the air had almost condensed into a physical substance. The gland on the back of her neck was red and swollen from constant rubbing, turning a mouth-watering peach color. It looked delicious, and she desperately wanted to pierce it.
Song Shuangtian exerted force with her foot. Ji Mingxue held her ankle while loosening her own collar, pulling her little girlfriend into her arms. Suddenly, Song Shuangtian bit Ji Mingxue’s lip. She pinned her against the headboard. With a surge of strength, the one being forced became the aggressor.
The taste of blood spread between Ji Mingxue’s lips. Her grip on Song Shuangtian’s waist tightened. The Omega’s waist was too thin, so thin a single hand could encircle it. It was thin and supple. It felt as though it might snap with a fold, yet no matter how it was handled, it maintained a wonderful tactile quality.
The pain between her teeth brought a flicker of clarity to Song Shuangtian’s eyes. A silver thread of saliva stretched between them as they pulled apart.
“Where did you go?”
Ji Mingxue did not answer. She pressed down firmly on Song Shuangtian’s shoulders, her teeth sinking in to directly pierce the Omega’s delicate gland. Fragmented cries spilled from her wife’s mouth. Song Shuangtian’s pupils instantly lost focus. Her body began to tremble uncontrollably before finally slumping weakly against Ji Mingxue.
The Omega stared blankly at the ceiling, tears hanging from her eyelashes. Physiological tears flowed from the corners of her eyes into her hairline. Song Shuangtian tried to speak several times, but her voice was so hoarse that only single syllables emerged. The Omega’s pheromones triggered Ji Mingxue’s rut.
A beam of light from the curtains spilled across their bodies. Even though the Omega was in such a disheveled state, the Alpha’s clothes remained relatively intact. Unwilling to give in, Song Shuangtian kicked her, only to be met with a kiss on the sole of her foot.
After regaining some strength, Song Shuangtian gritted her teeth. “Are you a pervert?”
Ji Mingxue carried her wife into the bathroom, letting the warm water from the showerhead spray over them. Song Shuangtian rested her forehead against Ji Mingxue’s shoulder.
“You still have not answered my question.”
“I have to report to you every time I go out?”
Song Shuangtian looked up at her, her eyes asking, “Who else?”
Ji Mingxue smiled. “I went to your house.”
Song Shuangtian replied, “You are at my house right now.” She shot Ji Mingxue a glare as if to say, “Do not try to fool me.”
Ji Mingxue rinsed the foam off her body. “I went to your old home.”
Song Shuangtian paused, seemingly struggling to process the meaning of those words. “My old home? What kind of place is that?”
Ji Mingxue said, “The place where you lived before you went abroad to study.”
A long silence fell between them, broken only by the sound of flowing water.
“There is no value in going to a place like that.” Song Shuangtian was exhausted. After being wiped clean by Ji Mingxue and having her hair dried, she curled up in the Alpha’s arms. Song Shuangtian had not expected the day to come when she would rely so heavily on Ji Mingxue. It felt as though only in this person’s arms could she find a few traces of the warmth of home.
“Do not go back there. That place is no good; it is bad luck.”
Ji Mingxue hugged the petite Omega from behind, her fingers twirling through Song Shuangtian’s long hair. “You called out in pain earlier. I will apply some medicine for you.”
The number of times they had gone all the way was not many. Last time, Ji Mingxue’s technique was not great; they had relied entirely on the guidance of pheromones to produce a somewhat perfect result.
“It is alright.”
“But it is all swollen.”
Song Shuangtian curled herself even tighter. If she had a tail, she would certainly be hugging it and whimpering right now. At least it was better than the last time. Song Shuangtian did not doubt Ji Mingxue’s ability to learn; it was just that theoretical knowledge is one thing, while practical application is another.
Ji Mingxue brought over the cool ointment. As she applied it, she said, “I bought that residence, your old home.”
Feeling uncomfortable from the application, Song Shuangtian raised a foot to kick Ji Mingxue again. Her soft foot landed on Ji Mingxue’s shoulder. Unlike before, when she was restrained, Ji Mingxue slipped a high heel onto her foot. It was the high heel Song Shuangtian had lost at the banquet. The Prince had found his Princess.
Song Shuangtian pulled back the duvet and saw the dirty rabbit doll on the nightstand, the rabbit doll that had been stepped on. A flash of nostalgia flickered in her eyes.
“This? I stopped playing with it long ago. I thought it had been thrown away.”
“I will wash it for you and put it in your office. Hmm, okay?”
Song Shuangtian thought to herself, “What kind of serious Chairperson keeps a rabbit doll in their office?” She was not a toy company, after all. Faced with Ji Mingxue’s gentle movements, she was in a good mood. “Do as you wish.”
“Alright. Thank you for your trust, Chairperson.”
Song Shuangtian laughed softly. The room was quiet. Ji Mingxue tucked her in and, holding the rabbit doll by one hand, walked into the bathroom. The tie over the rabbit’s eyes was untied, revealing round, black, unamused eyes. The Alpha skillfully poured detergent into the sink and soaked the dirty rabbit in warm water.
Then she closed the bathroom door. In a short while, the grime within the rabbit was broken down, and the pool of clear water turned a murky grey-black. That dilapidated small building had trapped a child’s years from age one to fifteen. There, she had no mother to teach her with care, no reliable father, and the facilities were old and broken with no one to repair them.
Ji Mingxue put on gloves and pressed the rabbit’s belly; black water surged out in all directions. Ji Mingxue’s heart felt a needle-like pain. Her young Omega, Meimei, must have leaned against the window watching the cars driving in the distance.
Which car is carrying Mom? When will Mom come to see me? Is it because I am not good that Mom does not like me? When will Dad come to praise me? Why does Dad bring other girls into the house? Why does everyone say I am the heir, yet I do not even have my own pocket money?
The girl’s hazy eyes were full of confusion. It must be because she was not excellent enough that she was not liked. It must be because she was not pretty enough, or smart enough, that Mom would not come back to see her. It must be because she lacked the qualities of an heir that others assumed she could not inherit the group. It must be because she was not worthy.
She had to become excellent so Mom would look at her more. And then, the girl was greeted by a mourning hall containing her mother’s remains.
After countless changes of fresh water, the rabbit became cleaner and cleaner. A similar rabbit lay in Ji Mingxue’s home abroad; her mother and maternal mother would personally clean the room regularly. Even if she no longer lived there, her rabbit would be well-preserved. Ji Mingxue grabbed the rabbit by its ears and threw it into the dryer. A moment later, out came a fragrant, soft rabbit.
The footprint on its belly had been washed completely away. Aside from looking a bit old, it was no different from one on a toy store shelf. It also smelled very good. Ji Mingxue rubbed the rabbit, infusing it with her own pheromones.
So why? Ji Mingxue asked herself why she was the one who received the love of Song Shuangtian’s mother.
Ji Mingxue stood by Song Shuangtian’s bed. The Omega’s sleeping posture lacked any sense of security; it made one worry she might suffocate herself with the duvet. Ji Mingxue pulled back a corner of the quilt to let fresh air in. She placed the rabbit by the pillow. The moment Song Shuangtian opened her eyes, she would see the soft rabbit.
“Tiantian, you have worked hard.”
Ji Mingxue tenderly pressed a kiss to Song Shuangtian’s forehead. Before leaving, Ji Mingxue warmed some porridge in the kitchen and wrote a note.
“What did you say?” In the car, Ji Mingxue raised her voice. “Guanguan has a fever? 39 degrees?”
Ji Mingxue pulled a U-turn. She was not going to the company; she headed straight for the hospital. The old butler looked miserable. “Today the kindergarten organized a trip to the pond to dig for lotus roots. Miss dragged two other children to the neighboring pond to catch frogs.”
Ji Mingxue was speechless. “Accidentally fell into the pond? Call the person in charge of the activity over.”
The old butler replied, “She was chased into the water by a goose on the shore. The culprit has been apprehended.”
Ji Mingxue asked, “What?”
The old butler lifted two flapping white geese from the ground. The geese were imprisoned in a woven bag, their wings tied with red string. Their beady eyes were filled with the fires of war. If looks could peck, Ji Mingxue would have been bitten by now.
The old butler sighed. “The kindergarten teacher went to save her immediately, but ended up being bitten by the goose as well. She is currently in surgery getting bandaged up.”
Ji Mingxue pinched the bridge of her nose in frustration. The old butler skillfully handed over a “Calm Mind” oral liquid.
“Forget it, pay the teacher more in compensation.”
Ji Mingxue said, “I am not drinking that.” She was even angrier now. “Take these two geese and make Old Goose Bamboo Shoot Soup and Iron Pot Stewed Goose. Give the child some nourishment.”
Having sentenced the culprits, Ji Mingxue looked down at the cub, whose face was flushed red from the fever. “Serves you right.”
Ji Mingxue was experiencing the difficulties of being a mother. Guanguan opened her eyes, looking pitiful. “Mother, why do you smell like Mama?”
As soon as the child said this, everyone around looked over. The concentration of Omega pheromones on Ji Mingxue was exaggerated. Several young nurses blushed.
“Um, I was playing with your Mama.”
Guanguan was barely fooled and did not continue crying for her Mama. Ji Mingxue watched crossly as the butler dragged the geese away. They seemed to sense the fear of the upcoming frying pan and honked exceptionally tragically. The old butler skillfully pinched the geese’s beaks, manually muting them.
Ji Mingxue was silent. What a mess.
The little white jade dumpling was so feverish she was delirious, lying limply on the bed while receiving an IV drip. Song Shuangtian received the news as soon as she woke up and rushed over clutching her rabbit.
“Have you eaten? I have some old goose soup here.”
Ji Mingxue gave up her seat to Song Shuangtian and found another stool to sit on. “I have eaten. Your cooking is pretty good.”
“Mm, when I was studying abroad and could not find tasty food, I made everything myself.”
Song Shuangtian looked at her with a smile. “No wonder your stir-frying skills improved so fast; you practiced before.”
Ji Mingxue did not catch the meaning for a moment. A few seconds later, she suddenly looked at Song Shuangtian, wanting to explain, but the latter waved her hand, signaling for her to shut up and say no more.
Having long cared for patients, Song Shuangtian skillfully picked up an apple and a paring knife, managing to peel the entire apple without the skin breaking. After hearing the cause of the illness, she ate a goose wing to vent her anger on the cub’s behalf. As a child, Guanguan had boundless energy; even with a 39-degree fever, she acted as if nothing was wrong, aside from her face being too flushed.
Seeing her Mama arrive, she wanted to dive into her arms.
“Do not move; if the needle gets crooked, it will have to be re-inserted.”
Guanguan’s movements froze instantly. She looked at her Mama expectantly. “When Mama was sick, did you not want Grandma to hug you? Guanguan just wants Mama to hug her.”
“Your Grandma did not used to hug me.”
Despite being young, Guanguan was already quite sharp-tongued, yet even she was left speechless by Song Shuangtian’s answer.
“Why did Grandma not hug Mama?”
Song Shuangtian cut the apple into little rabbit shapes and handed them to the cub. “Probably because Grandma did not like me.”
Guanguan could not understand why a mother would not like her child. In Guanguan’s mind, her parents were the people who loved her most in the world. The apple in Guanguan’s mouth suddenly did not taste sweet anymore. This ordinary conversation sounded jarring to Ji Mingxue, who was standing by the door. She gripped the medical chart until it became a crumpled ball of paper before letting go.
Her Omega had no one to accompany her when she was sick. She could only lie alone in that small building. Perhaps there was a doctor, perhaps not. Her father might have known, or he might not have. In the end, no one cared about her. As long as her father tacitly agreed that Song Shuangtian was not the heir, the people around them would follow the wind and treat her poorly.
If she still had the identity of Mom to look forward to before age ten, then after ten, she completely lost the last anchor for her soul. Ji Mingxue closed her eyes for a moment. She turned and took the slip to pay the fees. Song Shuangtian herself no longer took past events to heart, but as Ji Mingxue, she could not turn a blind eye.
Guanguan was in a private hospital. After Ji Mingxue paid, a doctor specifically assigned to Guanguan came to check on her. The doctor looked Ji Mingxue up and down.
Dr. Qiao asked, “Who are you to Song Yuqing?”
Ji Mingxue replied, “I am her mother.”
Dr. Qiao opened Song Yuqing’s file. “The records show only one female Omega as the child’s family member.” Dr. Qiao’s gaze toward Ji Mingxue became increasingly suspicious. She saw that the child had been held in the arms of a stranger when she was brought in, and now another stranger had appeared claiming to be family. There was reason to suspect illegal child trafficking.
Ji Mingxue stepped aside to let the doctor into the room. At this moment, Song Shuangtian was away, and Guanguan had fallen asleep leaning against the headboard. Ji Mingxue went over and shook the white jade dumpling. “Wake up. Look and see who I am?”
Guanguan slept like a little pig. She even started snoring. The doctor’s gaze became even more dangerous. In the doctor’s eyes, Ji Mingxue had clearly become a member of a trafficking ring. The kidnapped child had a persistent high fever and had to be brought to the hospital, and now another member of the ring was trying to take the child away. To keep the child quiet, they might have even used drugs to make her sleep.
Dr. Qiao asked, “Do you know the child’s mother?”
Ji Mingxue saw that the doctor was already prepared to call the police. And her cub was still sleeping like a pig. CEO Ji was helpless; CEO Ji sighed.
Song Shuangtian, returning from getting hot water, pushed the door open to find the two in a standoff. “Dr. Qiao?”
Dr. Qiao felt relieved upon seeing Song Shuangtian. “Ms. Song, this person just tried to take the child and claimed to be the mother. We strongly suspect illegal activity.”
Song Shuangtian could not listen anymore. “She is the child’s mother.”
Dr. Qiao was stunned. “But you said before that the child’s mother was dead and her ashes were scattered in the Mediterranean.”
Ji Mingxue asked, “What?”
Song Shuangtian was silent. Her expression was awkward. “She is another one.”
After the doctor left, Ji Mingxue looked at Song Shuangtian with a half-smile. “Dead?”
Song Shuangtian coughed. “No.”
Ji Mingxue asked, “Ashes scattered in the Mediterranean?”
Song Shuangtian replied, “Not scattered.”
Ji Mingxue asked, “Switched to another partner?”
Song Shuangtian broke into a violent fit of coughing. “Do not worry about the minor details.”
Ji Mingxue was moved to angry laughter. How did she not know she was dead and her wife had remarried?
“Wait, your complexion.”
Song Shuangtian placed her thermos on the nightstand and opened her laptop to start working. Lately, there was much work awaiting her attention. Reborn was far from being able to run smoothly without her management. Whether it was the mines in Africa or the royal orders that needed completion, everything required her oversight. The Omega took a sip of hot tea and began replying to emails with one hand supporting her head.
“Song Shuangtian.”
Song Shuangtian replied, “Mm, your technique today was good. Worth five dollars.” Thinking she was flirting, Song Shuangtian pulled a five-dollar bill from her wallet and tossed it into Ji Mingxue’s hand.
Ji Mingxue caught the bill, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. “Look at your face.”
Song Shuangtian only replied after finishing an email. “What about it?”
Ji Mingxue brought a mirror over for her. “You have a fever.”
Song Shuangtian touched her burning face; it was currently the same shade as Guanguan’s. The Omega asked the nurse for a thermometer; it showed a high fever of 38.7°C. Song Shuangtian frowned, unable to figure out why she had a fever. She took vitamins daily; her immunity should be good.
“I will finish this work first, then I will have the doctor check me out.” Song Shuangtian sat naturally on the companion chair. “Do you not have work? I can take care of Guanguan alone. Ji Mingxue, you have been so idle lately it makes me wonder if Group M is about to go bankrupt.”
Ji Mingxue stood at the door and did not leave. She had originally wanted to ask when she would be qualified to move into Song Shuangtian’s house. Now, there was a more pressing matter.
“My dear Chairperson, you are far too much of a workaholic,” Ji Mingxue said, grabbing Song Shuangtian’s wrist. “I am taking you to the pheromone specialist.”
Song Shuangtian’s state was not right; it looked very much like physical discomfort caused by an overdose of pheromones in a short period.
“Wait, I still have emails to reply to.” Song Shuangtian tried to struggle, but her laptop was snatched away by Ji Mingxue.
“I am the Chairperson’s secretary. I have the authority to handle some of the work.”
“You.” She wanted to say Ji Mingxue’s lack of authority or position was a lie, but the words did not come out. She said in a low voice, “It is just a fever. I can endure it.”
Song Shuangtian did not understand why Ji Mingxue cared so much about her health. Since she was a child, she had endured every illness; most of them she simply waited out. At worst, she would take some antibiotics. Even after her financial situation was no longer tight, Song Shuangtian still did not place much importance on her body. She had too many things more important than her health to do.
Did Ji Mingxue even know? They were not from the same world. They never had been. Even with a child, the gap between them could not disappear. It was etched into their bones.
In the corridor filled with the smell of disinfectant, Ji Mingxue gripped Song Shuangtian’s wrist tightly, as if afraid she would run away to go back to work.
“You do not care about your own body, but I do. I am your family. I must care about you.”
